Blu-ray Review: ‘I, Tonya’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 2nd, 2018

THE FILM

Yes, I’m old enough to have been alive and understand all that went down back in 1994, in regards to the Olympic Figure Skating competitors. Specifically that of Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan. It was such a media circus of epic proportions and very bizarre culmination of events that made worldwide news for months and even years after the 1994 Olympic games. Directed by Craig Gillespie (‘Lars and the Real Girl’, ‘Fright Night’, ‘Million Dollar Arm’), ‘I, Tonya‘ follows the life of Tonya Harding, from her upbringing, her abusive home-life with her mother and other relationships, that lead to her competing in figure skating and the infamous attack on her USA teammate Nancy Kerrigan.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Full Moon High’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 30th, 2018

THE FILM

From the vaults of the 1980s, comes a forgotten comedy/horror movie called ‘Full Moon High‘. Made in 1979, but released in 1981, you can’t help but think that the original ‘Teen Wolf‘ creators drew inspiration from this movie for their own 1985 classic. Unfortunately, ‘Full Moon High‘ never made it to cult status and has been lost on the shelves for years until right now, where we can bask in the glory of cheaply made werewolf high-school films that are meant to make us laugh rather than scare us.

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 29th, 2018

Ready Player One” or “I, Spy: The Movie” is a delivery vehicle for people who need validation through nostalgia. The problem is that despite how hard it tries to milk enjoyment out of its constant nods to pop culture, it fails to say anything that’s worth remembering.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Molly’s Game’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 28th, 2018

THE FILM

(This film portion was written by Beka Perlstein)

Do you have a girl crush on Jessica Chastain? Do you have a man crush on Idris Elba? If you have any combination of the two, Molly’s Game is going to make you have all the feels. This is a well done film with all the right players and script that packs a punch. Aaron Sorkin (screenplay and first time director) has taken the novel Molly’s Game and turned it into a film that at a run time of two hours and twenty minutes seems fast paced and doesn’t waste your time. While I know literally nothing about poker, this movie kept me entertained and engaged because the story wasn’t the game-it was the players.

Film Review: ‘Ready Player One’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 28th, 2018

One of the most anticipated movies of the year is finally upon us with Steve Spielberg’s return to the fantasy/sci-fi realm in ‘Ready Player One‘, which is based off of the pop-culture fandom novel from 2011 of the same name by author Ernest Cline. The novel was a best-seller and was chock-full of 1980s and 1990s references in the form of video games, movies, TV shows, and more. in fact, every page of the book was like reading a nostalgic diary of your past childhood favorite things. ‘Ready Player One‘ takes places a few decades into the future where a simulated and very realistic virtual reality game is the main form of entertainment where people put on goggles and can be anyone or anything they want.
