Hey guys, Jana here,

trainingday

CBS is just like every other network right now getting their TV schedules figured out, ordering pilots of new shows that will be on a trial basis with hopes of becoming a permanent part of the fall TV schedule. One of the series that has been given a pilot order at CBS is ‘Training Day‘ and it’s just like it sounds, a series based on the Antoine Fuqua directed film of the same name.

In true Hollywood fashion, re-making an old classic is always a popular project and ‘Magnificent Seven‘ is no different. The new Seven is based on, of course, the 1960’s film of the same name that starred Steve McQueen, Yul Brynner, Charles Bronson, Eli Wallach and James Coburn. Of course, this classic is a remake of yet another film, from iconic director Akira Kurosawa’sSeven Samurai‘ from 1954.

Hi Bryan Here….

That’s right.  Universal has hired David Ayer to write the script for the updated version of Scarface.  We wrote about this a month or two ago about how this Scarface won’t necessarily be a sequel or remake, but rather just and updated version.  The film will put a new spin on the outlaw tale first released in 1932 with Paul Muni playing an Italian who took over Chicago, and then turned into the ultra violent 1983 film that starred Al Pacino as Tony Montana, a Cuban who took over the cocaine trade in 1980s Miami.

Holiday Movie Round-Up 2018!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 27th, 2018

Holmes & Watson

First movie I have walked out of by choice in years. What a steaming pile of crap. I knew it was bad going in, considering they didn’t even try to promote it in any way, shape, or form. There was only one trailer I’m aware of and the same TV spot played occasionally during sporting events. When a studio has a comedy they believe will be successful coming out on Christmas they promote the hell out of it. I wish they buried this one even deeper than they did. I didn’t walk out to make some high brow “cool guy” statement.

Bohemian Rhapsody

Imagine if someone made a Beatles movie but Ringo was the one who had the final say in every plot point? That’s what you get here. Surviving band members doing everything they can to make sure you recognize it wasn’t just Freddie Mercury in Queen. Guess what? We know that bu we don’t care.

Interview With Varèse Sarabande on 2016 Record Store Day!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 13th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

CfxfNIBUAAA0kUo (1)

Record Store Day 2016 is coming up this weekend, so I thought I’d talk with one of my favorite Record Companies Varèse Sarabande on what we can expect from them this year. I talked with Cary Mansfield, who is the Vice President of Catalog over at Varèse Sarabande. They are releasing FIVE different albums this year for Record Store Day and we go into detail on each release. We also discuss the importance of Record Store Day, how Record companies decide on what to release, and how the whole process works.  It was a fun and lively interview for sure. We even talk about some upcoming releases that will sure knock your socks off, including ‘Pee-Wee’s Big Holiday‘!

We always get a little excited when April rolls around and believe me it’s not because it’s tax season. We, at Boomstick.com love music as well as movies, and every April brings us… Record Store Day! The vinyl junkies of the world take in a deep breath as they step into a record store and the joy of that scent is similar to that of a bibliophile upon entering a library.

DVD Review: ‘Shelby: A Magical Holiday Tail’!

by Janet White on Nov 4th, 2015

Hi Everyone, Janet W. here…

Shelby DVD

The film is so bright, you gotta wear SHADES.

Shelby is a cute little dog movie, and Shelby (Rob Schneider) is, cute. It is never explained how the puppy repeatedly escapes from the pound, and that’s half the battle so it was a little disappointing. A button is pushed, (surely by the dogcatcher (Tom Arnold)) and next thing you know a dog is running in the streets. This doesn’t make sense unless the dogcatcher wants a regular exercise regime to break the monotony of small town life (as is perceived from the film). During one of Shelby’s escapes, he runs into the Parker family (or is hit by Ed Parker (Jefferson Brown)) who are going to show us what Christmas is all about or at least try. Film Review: ‘A Good Day to Die Hard’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 13th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

a-good-day-to-die-hard-official-trailer-3-movie

We’re back for another installment of the action packed ‘Die Hard‘ series, the fifth chapter in the series that has spanned twenty-five years. We’ve followed John McClane to the top of a skyscraper, 50,000 feet in the air on a jumbo jet, a cat and mouse chase around a metropolitan area, and even cyber terrorism. Prior to the screening, I even thought “Haven’t we already said all we need to say with this John McClane character?” Needless to say, ten minutes into the film, I found myself grinning ear to ear and holding on to both armrests ready for a highly entertaining thrill ride. ‘A Good Day to Die Hard‘ might lack in story structure, but completely makes it all up with its intense action sequences and two solid performances by Bruce Willis and Jai Courtney.

Ethan Hawke has ’24 Hours To Live’ on Blu-ray!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 12th, 2018

Why did this movie not get a major theatrical release? I have no idea. This movie called ‘24 Hours To Live‘ stars Ethan Hawk and produced by the guys who helped make ‘John Wick‘. I mean, this has gold written all over it. Not sure what bonus features will be available, but there is none listed at the moment. Let’s hope that changes. You can currently see the film On Demand, but the Blu-ray will be available on February 6th.

4K UHD Review: ‘Suicide Squad’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 13th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

a1kazv9rhrl-_sl1500_

THE FILM

There seems to be a good movie hidden somewhere in ‘Suicide Squad‘, but the film itself makes it nearly impossible for you to find where those good moments are. The film is its own worst enemy, because it promises something new and fresh in the first dozen or so minutes, but then nose dives into the mountain from there on out. This is certainly writer/director David Ayer’s most ambitious project and I can’t tell if it’s his mistake or the collection of DC/Warner Bros. executives who forced the notes on him to make this film not succeed, because again, the first part of the movie gathers your hopes up for something fun. Ayer wrote ‘Training Day‘ and ‘U-571‘, then transitioned into directing with ‘End of Watch‘ and ‘Fury‘, which were both new and fresh takes on tired genres. I was hoping that Ayer could breathe new life and put the DC Comic movie franchise on the right track, but alas, that is not the case.

Lie.
