Good news, everyone. The entire ANTI- catalog of Tom Waits albums will be re-mastered and re-issued on vinyl, which will include a new remixed version of Real Gone. All of this will be available before the holiday season, which will make excellent gifts and stocking stuffers. Tom Waits is one of the coolest people on planet Earth and has released videos, songs, and movies that always evoke emotions, laughs, and fun. I just hope he’s working on a new album and will once again tour, because if you’ve never seen Tom Waits live in concert, you really haven’t lived yet. It looks like all releases will come with 2 LPs that are 180g each along with a digital download card as well, which is just amazing.

Hulu is prepping a new supernatural drama titled ‘Citizen‘. Paramount Television is setting the show in a “supernaturalised” version of LA which mixes “gritty vigilantism with elements of magical realism”. So far they’ve cast their first actor in the series and they came in hitting the heavy bag with Tom Waits!

Tom Waits Will Appear on ‘The Simpsons’ This Sunday!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 3rd, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

tom waits simpsons

Back in August we reported that a bunch of big names were going to guest on this season of ‘The Simpsons‘.  One of those names was Tom Waits, and his episode will air this coming up Sunday, so set your DVR’s to record.  I do not know much about the episode, but I seem to remember hearing that Waits won’t be singing in the episode, which is very unfortunate.

Tom Waits Delivers New Music Video! No Tour Announcement!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 7th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

So, over the past several days, Tom Waits has been teasing his fans (which include me) about something he was announcing today.  He has posted a few images on his website hinting of what’s to come.  It all seemed to be pirate themed.  There was tons of speculation over the internet about what the musician had up his sleeve.  We were all hoping for a tour announcement.  Maybe a Tom Waits cruise?

Tom Waits Tour Announcement?!?!?

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 31st, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

A very cryptic image appeared on Tom Waits’s web page earlier.  It’s an image of him, which is the one above that says “Coming Aug. 7”!  With the caption that reads, “Permission to Come Aboard”.  I think this means he will do a new tour.  Hopefully we will get a cool new video announcing the tour like he did with his PEHDTSKJMBA tour.  PEHDTSKJMBA meaning “People Envy Happiness; Dogs Though Sense Courage, Knowing Jubilation Means Better Ass…sets.”  Keep it here for more info on Aug 7th.

Tom Waits Brings The Goods On “Bad As Me”

by NapkinArt on Oct 24th, 2011

Tom Waits' "Bad As Me" LP.

For decades, Rock n’ Roll has been thought of as a young man’s trade; the energy to sustain its demands on the mind, body and soul is no match for the weary. As true as that idea my be, rockers like Tom Waits (now 61), who continues to play by his own rules and charming madness, again goes beyond the borders of his own conventionalism with his 17th studio album, “Bad As Me” now available for the taking. Hi Bryan Here….

One of my top two favorite musicians is Tom Waits.  He is definitely the coolest guy on the planet.  His last album was ‘Orphans: Brawlers, Ballers, and Bastards’ with a live concert album called ‘Glitter and Doom’ from his Glitter and Doom tour.  Well he has been hard at work on his new album titled ‘Bad As Me’.  I seriously cannot wait for this album to release, which will be October 25th.  So not to much longer.  Actually you can purchase the single ‘Bad As Me’ for download right now from your favorite digital retailer.

Want A Rare Tom Waits Record and Vinyl Player???

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 13th, 2010

The coolest person in the world, “Tom Waits” has been working with New Orleans institution “The Preservation Hall Jazz Band” on the benefit LP preservation which was inspired by an old 78 rpm recording called “Tootie Ma is a Big Fine Thing” which is a Mardi Gras Indian street Chant by Danny Barker.

So the Jazz Band and Tom Waits have been doing their version of this song and will be released as a 78 LP on November 19th.

The B-side contains Waits’ and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band’s cover of Barker’s “Corrine Died on the Battlefield”

There will only be 504 copies available of this record to purchase.  In addition, since most record players only have the options of 33 and 45, they will be releasing a 78 record player with the record.  Only 100 players will be made for purchase.  The player itself is AWESOME.

The record itself can be purchased for a donation of $50.00 to the Preservation Hall Junior Jazz & Heritage Brass Band.  And the record player + record canbe purchased for a donation of $200.00 to the Preservation Hall Junior Jazz & Heritage Brass Band.

Both packages will be available for purchase in person at the New Orleans Preservation Hall on November 19th at 10:00 a.m. and online on November 20th by clicking HERE.

If you are a Tom Waits fan and a fan of New Orleans music, then try and get this rare gem.  I know I will.

TheWire_Complete_BLU

One of the best television shows to ever air is finally getting the Blu-ray treatment. I’m of course talking about HBO’sThe Wire‘. Last year, HBO GO announced that ‘The Wire‘ would be remastered in HD, and at the start of 2015, HBO GO put up the new, fresh transfer up for viewing for HBO subscribers. I can safely say that this is the best the series has ever looked. There is a new aspect ratio and everything looks crystal clear and cleaned up.

Blu-Ray Review: ‘Seven Psychopaths’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 8th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

Martin McDonagh’sSeven Psychopaths’ is highly entertaining.  I was a huge fan of McDonagh’s ‘In Bruges’ and have since then been wanting more from him.  It’s been four years since ‘In Bruges’, which was the last thing McDonagh did, and I can safely say that McDonagh’s writing and directing has only gotten better.  McDonagh is the next Tarantino and ’Seven Psychopaths’ is an excellent film.

I think Guillermo Del Toro might just be the coolest guy on the planet, next to Tom Waits.  His new epic film ‘Pacific Rim’ is testing through the roof, we hear and Warner Bros. is so happy about it, they want Guillermo to make all their films.  Warner offered Guillermo to direct a feature adaptation of the tv series ‘V’ and a sequel to ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’.  But we hear that Guillermo wants to do his own version of a film like ‘The Avengers’ or ‘The Justice League’.

Check Out The Trailer for ‘Seven Psychopaths’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 14th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

This trailer looks all sorts of fun.  Marty (Farrell) is a struggling writer who dreams of finishing his screenplay, “Seven Psychopaths”. Billy (Rockwell) is Marty’s best friend, an unemployed actor and part time dog thief, who wants to help Marty by any means necessary. All he needs is a little focus and inspiration. Hans (Walken) is Billy’s partner in crime. A religious man with a violent past. Charlie (Harrelson) is the psychopathetic gangster whose beloved dog, Billy and Hans have just stolen. Charlie’s unpredictable, extremely violent and wouldn’t think twice about killing anyone or anything associated with the theft. Marty is going to get all the focus and inspiration he needs, just as long as he lives to tell the tale.  Enjoy the trailer. Oh yeah, and TOM WAITS is in this movie.

‘Seven Psychopaths’ to be Quite the Ensemble

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 18th, 2011

Martin McDonagh’s new film is turning into a veritable powerhouse of acting. Woody Harrelson (Zombieland), Tom Waits (The Book of Eli), and Olga Kurylenko (Quantum of Solace) have just been signed to join Colin Farrell (Fright Night), Sam Rockwell (Moon) and Christopher Walken (everything) in Seven Psychopaths, a story of dog-napping, drama, and lack of motivation.

Record junkies, fans and ravenous collectors, take note: used record stores are your best friends, especially if the vinyl on hand is extremely affordable. Sometimes these places make it difficult to not walk out of there without spending fist-fulls of cash, or spending your entire day sifting through record after record. However, chances are the search is entirely worth it if you find something worth looking for.

Just this week after hitting up one of my local Half Price Books I found this gem of a Richie Havens record, “Electric Havens,” which I have never seen before, nor new existed. Oddly enough, there were three copies and I picked the cleanest one the store had. It’s a curious little record, one that doesn’t seem to have much info about, except for a blurb here and there on the net. Read the rest of this entry »

Rock n Roll Hall of Fame nominees are…..

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 29th, 2010

Ladies and Gents, your 2011 Rock n Roll Hall of Fame nominees are first-timers Tom Waits, Bon Jovi, Alice Cooper, Donovan, and Neil Diamond (Jewish Elvis), along with previously snubbed artists Beastie Boys, LL Cool J, J. Geils Band, Donna Summer, Chic, Dr. John, Laura Nyro, Joe Tex, Darlene Love, and Chuck Willis. (Via Rolling Stone) In order to be eligible, an artist must have put out his or her first recording in 1985 or before. And since Tom Waits put out his debut single in 1973, that means it took him 12 years to be nominated. Tom Waits is my favorite musician…. well Tom and Michael Jackson.

The lucky few who get enough votes from industry insiders to make it into the Hall this year will be announced in December. The induction ceremony is set to take place March 14 in New York City.

4K UHD Review: ‘Thor: Ragnarok’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 26th, 2018

THE FILM

Thor is starring in his third stand-alone film called ‘Thor: Ragnarok‘ and brings a much needed change to the character in the best possibly way. Thor now has a fun personality and great comedic timing, mostly due to Chris Hemsworth amazing acting chops here. In addition to that, the film is steeped in a hypnotic, yet hyper-active color scheme that looks like Willy Wonka and Andy Warhol got together and decorated a city. In fact, Wonka’s theme ‘Pure Imagination’ is a song that plays in the film. It’s not all cold and stiff dialogue here anymore with brown or earth toned aliens and robots that Thor has to use his hammer to fight. Everyone and everything is covered in bright primary and pastel colors that creates a breath of fresh air in this stale universe. That’s all thanks to filmmaker Taika Waititi for giving his unique vision on this big budget film ($180 million). In previous Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, particularly with Thor, things have been sour and gloomy.

Favorite Movies of 2017!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 27th, 2017

Was 2017 a great year for movies? Of course it was. There were some excellent films to be released in 2017. There were also some bad ones for sure, but the focus on this article are some of the Best films that stuck with me long after viewing. Most people will give you their Top 10 list, but this is no Top 10, because there are just so many movies that I loved and feel passionate about, that I find it difficult and unpleasing to rank them.

Instead, these are my favorite movies of 2017, which I hope you’ve seen already. If you haven’t yet, you’re in for a real treat and I can’t wait for you to see them. Some of these films are still in theaters, while some are on Netflix, 4K UHD, and Blu-ray, so you’ll be able to quickly see any of these if you haven’t. I watched over 270 movies that were released in 2017 and these are my absolute favorites. I hope you get to see all of these, because I know you’ll love them. In no particular order…..

Blu-ray Review: ‘It Follows’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 13th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

91jLUdn2eDL._SL1500_

THE FILM

It’s very rare these days that a horror movie consistently delivers on genuine thrills and scares. And I’m not talking so much about the cheap “jump out and scare you tactics”. I’m talking about a deep psychological horror that lingers in your mind for days after, causing you to look over your shoulder and think twice about those strange noises you heard. Not since ‘The Babadook‘ has a movie been more terrifying than ‘It Follows‘, which is a horror film from newcomer David Robert Mitchell who wrote and directed this masterpiece of horror.

Jana’s Best/Worst of 2014!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Dec 15th, 2014

Hey guys, Jana here,

PicMonkey Collage

It’s been a big year for the entertainment world. Netflix’s initial push to bring movie-theater worthy films straight to streaming customers and bypassing the big screen altogether set off a chain of deals that will take those fresh releases and push them directly into homes allowing us to bypass a $15.00 soda, but denying us the $20.00 popcorn you can only get at the theater. Then came the deluge of series and movies being made for exclusive run with everyone from Netflix, Amazon to Crackle and everything in between. Top that off with the huge breach of privacy Sony experienced. New releases were flooded onto P2P sharing sites and private emails from the film company’s big wigs that show us how the infrastructure of Sony really works, not to mention what those involved really think of some of their superstars.

The summer months are quickly approaching the horizon like the fury of black iron and steel. Soon, it’ll be hotter outside than hell and the all of the coal that powers the engines on the Santa Fe line.

Summer is that time of year where most people, like myself, are desperately wanting to travel and be mobile for a little while. We want to escape the confines of office deadlines and see the world from the vantage point of a moving car or fast aero plane. For the folks of Johnny Cash’s time, they may still dream of seeing things from the opening of a big box car, traveling East and West on the Rock Island Line or the Union Pacific Railroad. Sadly, for most of us that era of American life has whizzed on by, but the songs collected on “All Aboard The Blue Train” sure does the job of getting us to a time in our minds where we wish to ride the open rails. Cue the creepy slamming doors and then rocks or coconuts (neither make sense, but what else could it be?) falling from the sky on the glass panes.  Using their keen survival instincts, they leave and wind up walking in Allison’s old drive-way/yard only to see Jason (A’s brother). Parker Bagley was sneakily replaced with Drew Van Acker, former underwear model. This handsome, new Jason is dimpled and rough and blond. Now I finally have a legit reason to watch this show.
