James Spader Will Exit ‘The Office’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 27th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here…..

That’s right, James Spader will leave ‘The Office’ after this season.  He originally only wanted a one season arc and only wanted to be in fifteen of the episodes for one season.  Studio execs granted his wishes.  “James always wanted this to be a one-year arc, and he now leaves us having created one of the most enigmatic and dynamic characters in television,” said “Office” executive producer Paul Lieberstein. “He’s been a great friend to me and the show, helping us successfully transition into the post-Michael Scott years, and I’m grateful for that.”

Hi Bryan Here….

Bears.  Beets.  Battlestar Galactica.  For a while now, ‘The Office’ star Rainn Wilson (Dwight Schrute) and executive producer/showrunner Paul Lieberstein have been toying with the idea of  an ‘Office’ spinoff series, and now that might happen.  No final deals have been made just yet, but they are getting to that point.  NBC is hoping to finalize everything and get this new spinoff show out by mid season 2013.

The Geek Deal of the Day is all about ‘The Office’.  Each season is on bluray and comes with tons of extras and that glorious 1080p HD transfer.  Plus, I think this might be some of the cheapest ‘Office’ on bluray ever, so take advantage.  I mean for over 70% off, you can’t beat that.  These would add to your collection or be great gifts for someone.  Enjoy.

The Office’s Craig Robinson to Be The Antichrist!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 1st, 2011

Hi Bryan Here….

With the economy where it is today, several film studios are producing small budget films with the hopes that it makes a big box office splash.  One of those studios is Lionsgate Films.  They have optioned several films with a budget of two million a piece.  It doesn’t take hundreds of millions of dollars to make a great film or make people laugh or scared.  What it takes are people who are passionate, talented, and enthusiastic about making the film, and all that emotion will carry over into its release.  It’s a good thing.

Film Review: ‘Office Christmas Party’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 9th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

L-R: Kate McKinnon as Mary Winetoss, Jason Bateman as Josh Parker, T.J. Miller as Clay Vanstone, Olivia Munn as Tracey Hughes in OFFICE CHRISTMAS PARTY by Paramount Pictures, DreamWorks Pictures, and Reliance Entertainment

We’ve all been to Christmas Parties at the office before, and this time of year, when it’s Christmas, we get a plethora of holiday themed films. Well, the end of 2016 gives us ‘Office Christmas Party‘, the vulgar rated R Christmas movie that centers around a giant office Christmas party that’s made by the filmmaking duo of Will Speck and Josh Gordon (‘Blades of Glory‘). Does this offer any insight or something new to the comedy Christmas genre? No, not at all. That being said, this is a highly entertaining and hilarious film that I can see myself watching every year around the holidays. With the all-star cast, good soundtrack, funny dialogue, and an office party that we would all want to attend – ‘Office Christmas Party‘ is a success.

Weekend Box Office Roundup

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 4th, 2010

I can’t believe October is already here.  This year has been going by fast.

Well everone’s favorite social network Facebook is on top this week.

Aaron Sorkin’s “The Social Network” was #1 at the box office this weekend.  It brought in $23 million dollars.  It’s budget was double that.  So it has a ways to go.

Staying at the #2 spot this week is the cgi animated film “Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole”.  It brought in almost $!1 million dollars bringing its two week total to at little of $30 million dollars.

The Wall Street sequel dropped from #1 to the #3 spot this week bringing in $10.1 million dollars for a combined two week total of $35.8 million dollars.

Ben Affleck’s “The Town” dropped down one spot to #4.  It brought in $10 million.

Easy A dropped down 1 spot as well to the #5 spot bringing in $7 million.

The Renee Zellweger thriller, “Case 39” opened up at the #7 spot bringing in only $5.3 million dollars.  The premise of this movie looks amazing, but I do not think it was marketed well.

The remake of one of the best vampire films EVER, “Let Me In” opened in at #8 bringing in $5.3 million dollars.  GO SEE THIS MOVIE.

For the first time since its opening, “Inception” drops out of the top 10 list and goes to #12.  It brought in less than 1 million dollars this week.  It is going on its 13th week in release.

That’s it for this time.  Stay tuned for next weekend.

Movie Box Office Weekend Roundup

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 19th, 2010

Ben Affleck is on top again at the box office.  His movie “The Town: starring himself and John Hamm from the AMC series “Mad Men” is number 1 at the box office this weekend bringing in almost $24 million dollars.

Coming in at number 2 is the teen comedy “Easy A”.  This movie is loosely based on the classic novel “The Scarlet Letter”.  It brought in a little over $18 million dollars.  It only had a budget of $8 million.  So kudos there.  Read Cowdefender’s review HERE.

At number 3 is the M. Night Shyamalan film “Devil” bringing in a little over $12.5 million dollars.  This is the first in  series of films thought up by M. Night Shyamlan who other people write and direct.  Supposed to be a creepy film.  Read Cowdefender’s review HERE.

Resident Evil: Afterlife went from the top spot last week to number 4 this week bringing in $10 million for a combined two week total of $44 million dollars.

George Clooney’s “The American” went from the number 3 spot to the number 7 spot this week bringing in about $2.7 million dollars for a combined three week total of  about $32.8 million dollars.

In a surprising movie, the blockbuster hit “Inception” went from being number 10 last week to number 8 this week bringing in a little over $2 million dollars for a combined 10 week total of a little over $285 million dollars.

Machete came in at number 10 bringing in $1.7 million dollars for a combined 3 weeke total of about $25 million dollars which has surpassed its budget.  Hopefully this means sequel.

Also something to note is Sly Stallone’s “The Expendables”.  It came in at number 12 bringing in $1.4 million dollars for a combined 6 week total of $101 million dollars.  That is an uber violent rated “R” film bringing in that much money.  Kudos Sly.  Kudos.

That’s it for this week.  Stay tuned for next weekend.

It looks like Resident Evil 3-D took the number 1 spot this weekend taking in over 27 million dollars.  George Clooney’s “American” came in at number 2 with a 2 week total of about 27 million dollars.  Machete came in at number 4 with  a 3 week total of 21 million dollars.  The Last Exorcism came in at number 7 with a 3 week total of over 38 million dollars.  The Last Exorcism cost less than 2 million to make.  The Expendables came in at number 8 with a 5 week total just shy of 100 million dollars.  And the hit of the summer “Inception” is still in the top 10 coming in at #9 with a 9 week total of 283 million dollars.

Dan’s Review of ‘A Quiet Place’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 8th, 2018

I am not a huge fan of scary movies. I’ll see them, but they are definitely very low on my overall ‘Genre I Enjoy’ list. That said, I always appreciate a really well done horror film and ‘A Quiet Place‘ is exactly that. It is one of the most suspenseful and intense movies I have seen in a few years. The awful situations this family finds themselves in naturally grow to such a climax that it is one of the few movies where I can say I was on the edge of my seat.  On the surface, it is just a terrifying creature feature where noise is the enemy, but if you look a little deeper, it is quite simply the most terrifying movie about being a parent ever made.

Film Review: ‘A Quiet Place’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 4th, 2018

Comedians have routinely had a tough time shaking their labels as depthless clowns, but lately some are rejecting that type-cast in cinema and using their own material to change the minds of the public. Breaking away from his best known work as Jim in ‘The Office’, John Krasinski followed Jordan Peele’sGet Out‘ lead by taking the director’s role for the opposite end of the spectrum: Horror. His cleverly silent debut thriller ‘A Quiet Place’ has inexorable intensity, satisfying character development and bona fide heartbreak. Not since ‘Signs’ has there been such a fascinatingly atmospheric creature feature!

Favorite Movie Scene of the Day #19!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 26th, 2018

At least a dozen times per day, we all internally think the same sentiment. Those of us who are more courageous might speak it out loud. “I’m surrounded by fools.” Yes, we all think or scream this many times a day, whether we’re at the office, at home, out at a restaurant, or even watching the latest ‘Batman‘ movie at your local theater. Sure, we’ve replaced “fools” with other colorful words, such as morons, idiots, and even the occasional dingbat reference. It’s a thought that we all have shared more often than not throughout our daily lives that has become a universal joke over the decades. They’ve even made tons of merchandise, including keychains, bumper stickers, and T-shirts with this phrase on it. It’s like the universal wink to one another as we pass each other by in the hallways or on the streets. The other phrase we usually hear is “I’m surrounded by assholes”, which is more relevant today than ever.

Film Review: ‘[Detroit]’!!

by Janet White on Jul 29th, 2017

Hello Everyone, Janet W.  here…

Fifty years ago (to the day I screened Detroit), atrocities occurred in Detroit, Michigan. July 25, 1967 has been a day of woe for generations past and will be for those to come. Effectively capturing the events of this time, Detroit offers a raw in-your-face journey into the debasement of human beings simply because of their color. Such actions led to outrage which brewed to boiling over due to criminal misconduct and murder performed by police officers escalated to several days of rioting and worse. Black people helping the crooked cops unlawfully abuse and imprison other black people. Read the rest of this entry »

Film Review: ‘Patriots Day’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 11th, 2017

Dan M., here….

screen-shot-2017-01-11-at-11-31-05-am

FULL DISCLOSURE: I was born in Massachusetts (moved in middle school) love all the sports teams and have close to 40 families members in and around the outskirts of Boston. The only reason I disclose this is because I watched the news closely during this whole ordeal, read two books on the events/survivors, and caught the excellent HBO doc that premiered late last year. I’m not an expert on the event but I feel like I know a bit more than a casual viewer. Most importantly I wasn’t there. I don’t know anyone who was lost. I can’t imagine what it is like to see a tragic event in your life monetized into a film so I am reviewing this strictly as a fan of movies and how it was portrayed as a movie. The politics, timing, and ramifications of turning events like this into films are for others to debate.

As Americans there are moments that made time stand still for our country. The attacks on September 11, 2001 crippled our spirits with the biggest sucker punch in history, and the attack on the American diplomatic compound and the nearby CIA Annex in Benghazi, Libya on the 11th anniversary of that horrid event, ripped that scar wide open. Some may see a film based on the events of that fateful night as a crass money-maker, I see the film as a remembrance and a warning to the future to never let this happen again.

Film Review: ‘Inside Out’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 18th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

Inside-Out-2015-Disney-Movie

I’m a huge fan of Pixar and their animated films. They have changed the way films are made, and each movie since ‘Toy Story 1‘ in 1995 has been a success both critically and financially, making Pixar one of the biggest movie studios ever. Hell, all of the Pixar films combined have made over $9 billion (with a “B”) at the box office. That’s not to mention home video or merchandising sales. Since ‘Toy Story III‘ in 2010, there has only been three Pixar movies, all of which have been less favorited to Pixar’s previous films including ‘Wall-E‘, ‘Up‘, and the third ‘Toy Story‘ movie.

John Stamos Thrusting Back To TV In Four Projects!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Sep 2nd, 2014

Hey guys, Jana here,

john stamos

John Stamos may be best known for his gig on ‘Full House‘ as Uncle Jesse, but it’s unfair to characterize his acting range by constantly putting him in that box. He’s still just as swoon-worthy as he was in the 80’s which has to help his bankability when he’s auditioning for a new role.

As of now, he’s got a couple of high-profile projects in the works. He’s currently the frontrunner as the male lead of ABC’s midseason drama series, ‘Members Only‘. The actor born with the last name Stamotopoulos (Thank God he shortened that one!) is looking to topline and executive produce the unnamed comedy series in the works, also with ABC Studios and will be working with comedy producer Dan Fogelman (‘The Neighbors‘).  Not to mention the most highly anticipated return to television of all – ‘Full House‘, which is in a reboot phase at Warner Bros. TV.

Interview: Black Joe Lewis Plus Bonus Concert!!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 17th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

black-joe-lewis-2

I had the distinct honor and pleasure to sit down and talk with one of the best musicians and singers in the music business today – Black Joe Lewis. If you are unfamiliar with Black Joe Lewis and his amazing band, then you’re in for a real treat. Black Joe Lewis was formed in Austin, TX, and has been around for seven years and has released four albums so far, all of which are A++ work. He tears the roof off each place he plays at and leaves a lasting impression with his throaty vocals and excellent music.

Film Review: ‘The Other Woman’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 24th, 2014

Hillary T., Here…

the-other-woman-movie-2014

I honestly would not have given this movie a second look. I would not have paid to see it, or rented it, if I had not been asked to screen it for Boomstick Comics. I am so glad I did!  We walked in, and from the start, ‘The Other Woman’ was not what I expected. I was so pleasantly surprised. This movie’s plot line is absolutely unbelievable, for sure, but for what it is (a chick flick), it is downright fun.

Adult Swim Announces ‘Black Jesus’!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Mar 11th, 2014

Hello Jana here,

Aaron-McGruder

Adult Swim or as, is the flip-side of Cartoon Network, broadcast since 2001, much of the network’s general content is known for its risqué, unorthodox and often bizarre presentation. Pushing the envelope appears to be the network’s future. A new series has put to order will certainly raise debate and laughs, ‘Black Jesus‘.

What happens to Ghostbusters 3 Without Harold Ramis?

by Red Zeppelbon on Feb 28th, 2014

Jana B. here,

Harold Ramis

Harold Ramis gave us years and years of laughter that came to an end way too early. The entertainment world will also tell us of the void he left within their ranks. We, the fans are left questioning the future of ‘Ghostbusters III‘. Sony is still managing to keep ‘Ghostbusters III‘ on track, even though Ramis was to have made a cameo appearance. Ivan Reitman, who formerly directed the first two Ghostbusters films is scheduled to meet with the heads of production to form a game plan to keep it in active development.

Blu-Ray Review: ‘Iron Man 3’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 17th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

iron-man3

With ‘Iron Man 2‘ proving to be less than stellar back in 2010, this third sequel of the Marvelhero returns with a much needed boost of attitude and character that takes us through many twists and turns and tons of new Iron Man suits. This can be considered a sequel to both 2010′s ‘Iron Man‘ and Joss Whedon’s ‘The Avengers‘. Director Shane Black tosses away much of the wham-bam action scenes and focuses on the quick witted humor and our hero’s internal struggle with crippling panic attacks. I have no doubt this will be a fan favorite of the franchise.

Film Review: ‘R.I.P.D.’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 19th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

ripd_01

I’ve spoken with many people about their thoughts on seeing ‘R.I.P.D.‘ this weekend, and 9 out of 10 of them have said it looks terrible. In addition, I’ve heard a lot of studio people talking how this summer blockbuster that cost an estimated $130 million won’t even top out at $15 million this weekend. It’s a tough call as several movies come out this weekend, including a horror film that’s been generating a lot of good buzz. ‘R.I.P.D.‘, which is based on a Dark Horse comic series was surprisingly a lot of fun. Sure, it was silly stupid fun, but none-the-less, entertaining.

Je-kyu Kang’s ’My Way’ is not just a film you watch, it’s a full emotional experience.  ’My Way’ will take you on a moving journey through several countries and languages as you grown a bond with the two main characters.  This is Korea’s most expensive film to date and you will immediately see that.  ’My Way’ is epic on all levels.  This is one of the better films I have seen in recent memory and most definitely the best film dealing with war-time since Spielberg’s ‘Saving Private Ryan’.

Bryan Reviews ‘Cinema Six’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 16th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

‘Cinema Six’ is an ultra vulgar comedy that tries too hard to be this generation’s ‘Clerks’ rather than provide a new voice or message.  The movie wants so desperately to be a brilliant comedy, but it never quite achieves its goal. As always, the duality that came from channeling Polly gave Bridge a headache.  Or, in this case, worsened the one he already had.  Most humans—himself included—had difficulty maintaining a single point of focus, much less two, but here he was.  And there he was as well.  On the physical plane, he was seated in a chair in his office, gazing into the eyes of a dead man.  At the same time, his body was also floating weightlessly in space, surrounded on all sides by tiny flickering lights, hovering like fireflies. Writer Seth Grahame- Smith known for his novel, Pride Prejudice and Zombies also wrote a novel called Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.  20th Century Fox has acquired the rights to make this into a film in which Seth has already written the screenplay.

Tim Burton will produce while Timur Bekmambetov (Night Watch/Wanted) will direct.

Pre production is already underway and the budget is right around $70 million dollars and will be in 3-D.

Fox did all they could to win this one, presenting a detailed pitch for the production, marketing and release of the picture. Beyond that, they one-upped other studios by putting on an elaborate presentation to impress the filmmakers: huge banners hung over the studio lot; parking spaces read “Parking for Vampire Hunters Only, Park at your own risk.”; bloody footprints led them to the meeting; silver bullets and bloody axes were placed around the offices; and so on.

Timur had to say this about the film:

“It is not a comedy at all – it is a very entertaining, epic history lesson for millions and millions of teenagers. If you remember Night Watch, it is maybe in the vein of that kind of movie. We are keeping the traditional look of Lincoln – the big hat and the beard. He has to be historically correct, but with a few special weapons.”

And here is Publisher’s Weekly mini review of the book:

“Seth Grahame-Smith inserts a grandiose and gratuitous struggle with vampires into Abraham Lincoln’s life. Lincoln learns at an early age that his mother was killed by a supernatural predator. This provokes his bloody but curiously undocumented lifelong vendetta against vampires and their slave-owning allies. The author’s decision to reduce slavery to a mere contrivance of the vampires is unfortunate bordering on repellent, but at least it does distract the reader from the central question of why the president never saw fit to inform the public of the supernatural menace.”

“Super” Footage from James Gunn

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 12th, 2010

James Gunn has been hard at work for quite some time on his new film entitles “SUPER”.  It is in the vein of the year’s movie “Kick-Ass”.  The film has a stellar cast including: Rainn Wilson (The Office) and Ellen Page (Juno) as the main characters with Liv Tyler, Kevin Bacon, Michael “The Rook” Rooker, Nathan Fillon (Firefly) and Linda Cardellini (Freaks and Geeks).

IMDB’s plot synopsis for this movie reads “After his wife falls under the influence of a drug dealer, an everyday guy transforms himself into Crimson Bolt, a superhero with the best intentions, though he lacks for heroic skills.”

Now James Gunn is no stranger to the super hero genre.  He made a little film several years back which I think is one of the funniest movies out there.  It is called “The Specials” and is about the 6th or 7th best super hero team in the world.  It has an all-star cast as well with Thomas Hayden Church (Sideways & Spider-man 3) and Rob Lowe to name a few.  Gunn went on to write the revamp of Dawn of the Dead and make the ever so popular movie “Slither”.

Super looks to be an amazing film and the reviews from the early screenings are stellar.  I am looking forward to this movie.  Check out the clip of Rainn Wilson and Ellen Page below.

LP Review: ‘Luke Cage Season 2’ Soundtrack!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 8th, 2018

Marvel is certainly on a roll with their content over this past decade with their billion dollar movies and their successful television shows across multiple platforms. One of these shows is called ‘Luke Cage‘, which just debuted its second season on Netflix. Luke Cage was the first black superhero in comic books to be featured as the main protagonist with his name as the title. Cage is an ex-convict who was imprisoned for a crime he did not commit who was experimented on, thus creating his superpowers of strength and unbreakable skin. Once he hones in on these powers, he basically becomes a hero for hire and is one of the coolest characters in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe.

4K UHD Review: ‘Avengers: Infinity War’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 6th, 2018

THE FILM

For the last decade, we’ve been getting to know most of the Marvel super-heroes. In 2008, we met Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) when the comic book company Marvel decided to start making their own films with their own company, without the help of any other big studio. It was a massive success, which led to 17 more films that included a ton of more superheroes, including ThorHulkAnt-ManCaptain AmericaBlack PantherDoctor Strange, and Guardians of the Galaxy. For the first few superhero films, we were introduced to their origins and character, which led to the first Avengers films. Needless to say, that first Avengers movie broke box office records at the time and put in motion a story arc that culminates into what we have today – ‘Avengers: Infinity War‘.

Reconstruction of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

By Tuesday Shank

(Find Tuesday Shank on Twitter and Instagram!)

There are three types of movies in this world for me; bad movies (which I may or may not enjoy because of or despite of their badness), good movies, and movies that annoy me.  Movies that annoy me are the ones I obsess over.

Movies that annoy me tend to be “close but no cigar” to a good movie. They annoy me, because I wish the film had gotten the cigar. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is a movie that annoys the crap out of me.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales was intended to be a soft reboot of the series. It was supposed to introduce new characters in a similar environment and allow the series to have a “fresh start.”  The film had absolutely everything it needed to accomplish this task. Instead, the movie is a jammed pack, convoluted, dragging two-hour film.

Theatre Review: ‘The Lion King’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 16th, 2018

Ever since ‘The Lion King’ (1994 film) debuted in movie theaters, the musical’s popularity has conquered more than just that box office. Only third in line to the thrown of Disney’s top-grossing films, it was inevitable that this animated picture would be adapted into a stage production. Satisfying the lingering hunger of audiences, ‘The Lion King’ (1997 musical) is not only Broadway’s third longest-running show, but it surpassed the film’s success as Broadway’s top-grossing musical ever. Combined with phenomenal puppetry, vibrant costumes, a sensational set design and a disreputably epic soundtrack, it’s easy to see why ‘The Lion King’ has been crowned the best. Be prepared for a royal experience—this interactive musical will pounce on your emotions and leave your heart roaring with excitement!

Film Review: ‘Won’t You Be My Neighbor’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 8th, 2018

In the dumpster fire that is our world these days, Won’t You Be My Neighbor is film you didn’t know you needed.  It’s soothing, it’s sweet, and it’s a sentimental look back at what may be the best children’s TV show ever made. The documentary, brought to us by Morgan Neville, centers on Fred Rogers himself and mission he had to bring his message that love conquers all to viewers everywhere.

THE FILM

Five years have past since Disney opened the vault and let loose their animated ‘Peter Pan‘ movie. In 2013, it was the 60th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray. Now, it’s 2018, and we have the 65th Anniversary Blu-ray Signature Edition. This is the same exact Blu-ray release from 2013, but with a few new bonus features and different cover art. Both the 2013 version and this 2018 version come with Digital Copies, which is good, along with a DVD version. If you have the previous edition, there’s really no need to re-buy this one, unless you’re a huge fan or want the new bonus features, which will be listed out below. It’s the same film, the same video and audio presentations as well.

Film Review: ‘Deadpool 2’!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 16th, 2018

Ryan Reynolds was born to play the Marvel Merc with a Mouth, Deadpool. Reynolds just pours all of his unique charm, wit, comedy, and physical choreography into the character. It’s almost like Reynolds is the actual Deadpool in real life, and indeed the world is better for it. Marvel and Fox decided to play nice a couple of years ago and we got a rated R Marvel superhero film with ‘Deadpool‘. It was a gamble for sure with the strong bloody violence and foul language, but the film ended up making almost $800 million at the box office and  was met with rave reviews across the board.

4K UHD Review: ‘The Commuter’!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 1st, 2018

THE FILM

(This film portion was written by Fernando Martinez)

SOMEONE PLEASE STOP TAKING LIAM NEESON’S FAMILY!!! Ok, so maybe ‘The Commuter‘ isn’t so much about having his family ‘Taken’, but they get threatened to get taken, and that’s close enough.

So “The Commuter” is here simply to prove that Liam Neeson is still an action hero, and to be fair, he is probably our best action hero.  At age 65, he’s doing stuff that Tom Cruise wishes he could have done in his 30’s.  Actually, this felt like a role that was written for Tom Cruise until someone realized that Tom Cruise is box office poison but everyone loves Liam Neeson probably because of Love Actually.

Film Review: ‘Avengers: Infinity War’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 25th, 2018

For the last decade, we’ve been getting to know most of the Marvel super-heroes. In 2008, we met Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) when the comic book company Marvel decided to start making their own films with their own company, without the help of any other big studio. It was a massive success, which led to 17 more films that included a ton of more superheroes, including Thor, Hulk, Ant-Man, Captain America, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, and Guardians of the Galaxy. For the first few superhero films, we were introduced to their origins and character, which led to the first Avengers films. Needless to say, that first Avengers movie broke box office records at the time and put in motion a story arc that culminates into what we have today – ‘Avengers: Infinity War‘.

Film Review: ‘Super Troopers 2’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 19th, 2018

I can’t believe it’s been 17 years since Broken Lizard made us love a group of Vermont State Troopers that seemed to not only solve major crimes, but have fun while doing so in their debut hit film from 2001, ‘Super Troopers‘. The improv comedy troupe of Broken Lizard have all gone on to be very successful as actors and filmmakers in film and television, and I’m so happy to tell you that everyone has come back for a sequel some 17 years later in ‘Super Troopers 2‘. Watching the original ‘Super Troopers‘ today, I can’t help but laugh the same way as when I first watched it in theaters. It still holds up, which is something rare in comedy. You never know if something is still going to be funny years from now, as we’ve seen with certain Adam Sandler films or the Scary Movie franchise. ‘Super Troopers‘ is not that way, at least not yet, and every time I watch it, it remains as funny as it was in 2001. Now is ‘Super Troopers 2‘ funny as hell? The answer is best said as “a Large Farva YES”.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Molly’s Game’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 28th, 2018

THE FILM

(This film portion was written by Beka Perlstein)

Do you have a girl crush on Jessica Chastain? Do you have a man crush on Idris Elba? If you have any combination of the two, Molly’s Game is going to make you have all the feels. This is a well done film with all the right players and script that packs a punch. Aaron Sorkin (screenplay and first time director) has taken the novel Molly’s Game and turned it into a film that at a run time of two hours and twenty minutes seems fast paced and doesn’t waste your time. While I know literally nothing about poker, this movie kept me entertained and engaged because the story wasn’t the game-it was the players.

4K UHD Review: ‘Justice League’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 13th, 2018

THE FILM

(This film portion was written by Dan Moran)

There are several things about Justice League that are good. I think the cast is terrific. Gal GadotBen AffleckJason Momoa, and Ezra Miller are great in their roles. They each have a character moment (earned or not) that makes me interested in seeing their next solo adventure. DC/WB has put some talented filmmakers in charge of the next slate of movies. Justin Lin doing Aquaman sounds great, Patty Jenkins taking Wonder Woman on her next adventure, and Matt Reeves writing and directing The Batman. These are world-class filmmakers who have a great actor in the title role and hopefully that leads to some great story telling. I have no idea who is directing The Flash but I did enjoy him as the comic relief character in Justice League and would like to see if he is more than that in the future. Even Henry Cavill’s “new” Superman was delightful as he is reborn in this film and is no longer a whiney douchebag with terrible parents. Man of Steel 2 is actually on my radar now! But those are the nicest things I can say about Justice League. I loved the cast and I look forward to their solo adventures because having them all together in whatever Justice League was/is/supposed to be was a horrific insult to the fans of DC and moviegoers in general.

On February 19th, a total of 55 AMC Theaters across the nation will show the Oscar nominated and award winning film ‘GET OUT’ for FREE! You can see the list of theaters down below by clicking the link. ‘GET OUT’ is one of the best films of 2017 and I’m so happy they are showing it for free next week. Who would have predicted that one half of the ‘Key and Peele’ show would direct a movie that would be talked about and remembered for many years to come. It’s half horror and half comedy with an excellent satire behind it all.
