Hi, Bryan Here…

Colin Farrell ... In Bruges.

Colin Farrell and Rachel Weisz have just signed on to star in Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos’s new film called ‘The Lobster‘. Lanthimos’s big claim to fame was the 2009 Oscar nominated film called ‘Dogtooth‘. Shooting shold begin in late March in Ireland with Ben Whishaw, Léa Seydoux, Olivia Colman, Ariane Labed and Angeliki Papoulia already in the cast.

Film Review: ‘Roman J. Israel Esq.’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 27th, 2017

Roman J. Israel, Esq. won’t be a box office hit, and if you aren’t black or a lawyer or somewhere in that venn-diagram, you probably aren’t wanting to go see it. But you should. If you’ve ever had a forgotten dream, no matter what your profession is or the color of your skin, you will identify with Roman. It’s uncomfortable to watch, it’s heartbreaking at times, but there’s laughter and Denzel Washington. Denzel is superb.  And honestly, Collin Farrell has redeemed himself in my eyes from The Lobster, so there’s really no reason to cast this one aside.

Film Review: ‘The Killing of a Sacred Deer’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 28th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

Yorgos Lanthimos will hopefully be a household name in the coming years. The filmmaker just has an uncanny knack for the uncomfortable and weird while telling very compelling and twisted stories that will no doubt entertain us and make us think about it long after viewing his work. Coming off of films like ‘The Lobster‘ and ‘Dogtooth‘, the Greek filmmaker unleashes his best film to date with ‘The Killing of a Sacred Deer‘, which could be Stanley Kubrick’s ‘Eyes Wide Shut’s‘ sibling in both style and tone.

Film Review: ‘Nocturnal Animals’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 23rd, 2016

Beka P., here…

nocturnal-animals

I was completely thrown off by Tom Ford’sNocturnal Animals‘. Aside from ‘The Lobster‘, this film is the most disturbing and disappointing one I’ve seen in quite some time. From the time the opening credits rolled, I was bothered and that feeling did not subside. I was literally relieved when the closing credits rolled and at the same time I had a feeling of, “was that it?” To say it was the most unsatisfying viewing I’ve had in quite some time is an understatement. What’s so terrible, you ask? Let’s start at the top.

Film Review: ‘The Wailing’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 6th, 2016

Beka P., Here…

photo705930

I was prepared to say that “The Wailing” was the worst movie I had seen in a while, but I saw “The Lobster” today so never mind that. Once all was said and done with this two and a half hour Korean subtitled film, I actually didn’t hate it. Would I see it again? No. Do I wish I had my time back? Pretty much, yeah, but at the same time, this is the kind of film I would never choose to watch in the first place. So, with that caveat, if you are a fan of Hong-jin Na’s previous films (“The Chaser” and “The Yellow Sea”), or if you are into the exorcism/zombie suspense genre then by all means this film is probably for you.

Hey guys, Jana here,

FF_2015_POSTER

Fantastic Fest‘ has released their 2nd wave of programming with a huge roster that would work as an entire film fest on its own! Add it to the first wave programming seen here, and by Jupiter’s Cock, it’s going to be exciting!!! There will be advance screenings of ‘The Martian‘, ‘High-Rise‘, ‘Green Room‘, and ‘The Keeping Room‘.

“This is a big year for genre cinema. We’re exceptionally proud to honor incredible filmmakers and welcome back some of Fantastic Fest’s favorites,” said Tim League, Fantastic Fest and Alamo Drafthouse CEO/Founder.

Sticking true to Fantastic Fest’s penchant for chaos and explosive events, they welcome Itchy-O to Austin for the first time. A blazing, 32-member aural assault from the darkest depths of Colorado, Itchy-O is a wholly immersive, musical experience on a massive scale. Said festival director Kristen Bell, “We cannot wait for them to unleash their percussive mayhem on our audience as hysteria has a welcome home at Fantastic Fest.”

See below for the full lineup of newly announced film titles for Fantastic Fest 2015. Final wave of titles to be announced shortly.

Hey guys, Jana here,

The 1971 Clint Eastwood flick, ‘The Beguiled‘ is heading towards a remake by director Sofia Coppola. But who do you replace Clint Eastwood with? Dirty Harry has a unique presence on-screen and he’s not so easy to replace, but it is possible to do, as the Coen’s discovered with 2010’s ‘True Grit‘. Jeff Bridges won’t be the go-to for Eastwood’s role, but Colin Farrell is stepping into Eastwood’s amputee boots.

DVD Review: ‘Robot Chicken: Season 7’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 4th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

RobotChicken_S7

THE SERIES

It’s hard to believe this little gem of a show has now had seven full seasons. Creators Seth Green and Matthew Senreich have molded a stop motion show of action figures into a cult phenomenon that is one of Adult Swim’s biggest series. If you’re unfamiliar with the series, each episode is less than 15 minutes in length and is a series of very short comedy skits, all using stop motion with action figures. The catch is that it’s definitely geared towards adults, since the comedy is very R rated.
