Film Review: ‘Thor: Ragnarok’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 31st, 2017

Thor is starring in his third stand-alone film called ‘Thor: Ragnarok‘ and brings a much needed change to the character in the best possibly way. Thor now has a fun personality and great comedic timing, mostly due to Chris Hemsworth amazing acting chops here. In addition to that, the film is steeped in a hypnotic, yet hyper-active color scheme that looks like Willy Wonka and Andy Warhol got together and decorated a city. In fact, Wonka’s theme ‘Pure Imagination’ is a song that plays in the film. It’s not all cold and stiff dialogue here anymore with brown or earth toned aliens and robots that Thor has to use his hammer to fight. Everyone and everything is covered in bright primary and pastel colors that creates a breath of fresh air in this stale universe. That’s all thanks to filmmaker Taika Waititi for giving his unique vision on this big budget film ($180 million). In previous Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, particularly with Thor, things have been sour and gloomy.

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

I’m so excited for this. Warner Bros. has partnered with HBO and is releasing the first ever 4K UHD with HDR and Dolby Atmos when it comes to television box sets. I’m of course talking about the highly acclaimed and beloved West World Season One. Yes, this marks the first time a television series will be released on the format and what better way than with this epic series from HBO. Expect it on November 7th of this year with all 10 episodes in glorious HDR 4K and Dolby Atmos sound. There will also be a ton of bonus features too, which are listed out below. I can’t wait, because this might be the BEST TV release of the year. Now we need to get Game of Thrones in 4K.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Creed’!

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

THE FILM

Another year, another ‘Rocky‘ movie. Some of you might be saying, “When is enough, enough?” More times than not, you might be right with any string of sequels that goes back the third installment, particularly with the ‘Rocky‘ franchise. Sure, the first ‘Rocky‘ film from 1976 was spectacular, and arguably one of the better movies ever made. It even won a ton of Oscars that year, including Best Picture. ‘Rocky II‘ came shortly after, which was still excellent, but starting with ‘Rocky III‘, things got silly and the films lost some focus. Still, audiences world wide packed theater houses to see the Italian Stallion (Sylvester Stallone) underdog his way up to the top, never quitting and giving his best. It’s a great message.

Hey guys, Jana here,

Screen Shot 2016-02-01 at 8.00.55 AM

If you’ve got an itch to get in the ring, Rocky-style, you can either start swallowing raw eggs, punching sides of beef and running like a marathoner, or you can have some pizza, stay in your jammie pants and hit play on your remote bringing ‘Creed‘ to your home entertainment center. I’m not saying what my plans are, just know I’m in my pj’s and I have pizza within reach, go figure.

Film Review: ‘Dear White People’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 23rd, 2014

Hillary T., Here…

13914-2

At first I was leery of the title “Dear White People.” I mean, is it a satire or a serious treatise on racial relations in colleges everywhere? Well, it’s both, and it’s for everyone. It’s absolutely wonderful, and for a first time director’s debut, it packs a sincerity that is poignant and lingering. I couldn’t stop laughing, and squirming at the same time, which means that this film did its job and I commend Justin Simien on his brilliant casting of such an independent film.
