by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 18th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

Interestingly enough, the guy who brought us ‘The Evil Dead‘ and the guy who played ‘The Drunken Master‘ (Sam Raimi and Jackie Chan respectively), have teamed up to create a joint venture film company in China called Allegory Films. There’s a third amigo here too by the name of Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, which is the director of ‘The Tourist’. The company is slated to make at least two films a year with Jackie Chan holding a 60% stake in the studio and the other 40% going to von Donnersmarck and Raimi.

Hey guys, Jana here,

You know how One Direction causes pubescent girls across the globe to squeal with glee? Now take that intensity and obsessive behavior and attach it to millions of guys that follow comic books and video games the way a stock trader follows the Nasdaq, then you can understand the genius of Screen Gems bringing out Sam Raimi at Comic-Con today.

Hi, Bryan Here…..

This past summer, Disney debuted Sam Raimi’s teaser trailer for ‘Oz The Great and Powerful’ at Comic-Con.  A few months have passed, and now we have the full length trailer with tons of new footage.  The film stars James Franco, Zach Braff, Michelle Williams, and Rachel Weisz. The film opens up March 8, 2013.  Can’t wait.  This trailer looks amazing.

Hi, Bryan Here…

Sam Raimi’s take on the ‘Wizard of Oz’ universe is taking shape nicely.  By the trailer, you can definitely tell people who work with Tim Burton are working on this film with Raimi.  When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot-fame and fortune are his for the taking-that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity-and even a bit of wizardry-Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well. It looks good and I hope it is.  The film will open March 8th, 2013.

Sam Raimi Will Direct “The Day of the Triffids”

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 21st, 2010

One of my favorite directors, Sam Raimi, has signed on to direct the remake of the AWESOME old horror film, “The Day of the Triffids”.  Sam Raimi started out making old horror films by the names of Evil Dead 1 & 2 and Army of Darkness.  He also went on to make the three Spider-Man films. He is a genius when it comes to entertaining an audience and filmmaking.

Oh God I hope Bruce Campbell makes an appearance in this film.  I do not see why he wouldn’t.

For those of you haven’t read the book or seen the old movie, Day of the Triffids is about highly intelligent plants who are brutally aggressive and murderous and who can move on their three like plant legs and communicate with one another and kill humans.  The plants start doing this to the humans after a meteor shower renders all who witnessed the meteors falling to become blind which is like 99% of the population.

I can’t wait to see this.

Sam Raimi (Evil Dead) and Bill Block (producer of District 9) have tapped into Andrew Marlowe’s script called “EDF”.

Someone over at Vulture has read the script and said it is a cross between “Top Gun” and “Independence Day” with a hint of “The Last Starfighter”.  The title “EDF” stands for Earth Defense Force.  Not sure if that will stick.  It is supposed to be about Earth’s response to an imminent alien invasion.

Now I have faith in Sam Raimi for the most part.  I will completely forgive him for Spider-Man 3, and Bill Block still has not done wrong.  I’d like to see what Raimi can do with an alien flick because he sure knows how to deal with monsters and demons.

I just hope there is a volleyball scene in EDF.  Top Gun Style.

Not enough Tom Cruise posts.

Sam Raimi is developing Three TV Shows.

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 29th, 2010

Sam Raimi gave us the Evil Dead movies, Army of Darkness, Darkman, and the Spider-Man films to just name a few.

His production company, Stars Road is developing three different hourlong pilots for three different networks.

Deadline Hollywood says:

“The ABC project hails from Dee Johnson, with whom Zotnowski worked on The Good Wife. Last year, Johnson served as executive producer/showrunner on the first 13 episodes of the CBS legal drama. The new project centers on a top female prosecutor in Los Angeles, whom Zotnowski describes as a “female vigilante with a law license.”

The Fox project, Smokers, comes from comic book and TV writer Brian K. Vaughan, best known for creating the comic book series Y: The Last Man, and for his work as a writer on ABC’s Lost. The high-concept drama, based on an original idea by Vaughan, is about a documentary crew following working class heroes who exterminate alien threats in deep space.

The third project, set at Zotnowski’s former home, CBS, is Lancaster, from writer Andrew Lipsitz (CSI, CSI:NY). It centers on a Scotland yard detective who joins the LAPD. With broadcast selling season wrapping up, Stars Road is turning its sights on cable where it plans to pitch next.”

The “Smokers” project has got my attention.

Sam Raimi Producing another Zombie Project

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 9th, 2010

Thomas Hayden Church (Wings, Spider-Man 3, and Sideways) will be returning to TV with a zombie flick called “Zombie Roadkill”.  If Church wasn’t enough to get you sucked in to watch, then how about Sam Raimi (Evil Dead) will be producing the project.  Not sure when this will be out for viewing, but I am looking forward to it.  Below is the trailer.

Evil-Dead-Remake-Featured-2013

Holy smokes, if you’re a horror fan, you need to see this film immediately.  Most of us are familiar with the Sam Raimi masterpiece, The Evil Dead.  The 2013 version is a remake, make no mistake about that, but it is one of the few remakes that actually holds ground with the original source material.

Ben Chimes In With His ‘Evil Dead’ Review!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 5th, 2013

Ben K., Here….

Evil-Dead-2013-1

As Fede Alvarez’s remake of the Sam Raimi horror classic came to a close, I heard a guy behind me mutter, “It was just a gorefest.” I resisted the urge to ask, “What exactly were you expecting?” When The Evil Dead came out back in 1981, was it not a gorefest? Was Evil Dead 2 not a gorefest? If by “just a gorefest” he meant that it lacked the humor of the original films, then perhaps he has a point. Gone were the many hat tips to The Three Stooges seen in Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness (aside from the “Fake Shemps” listed in the credits). The “Ashisms” were nowhere to be found until after the credits rolled. Still, for the fans who have been there from the beginning, this was more than a gorefest, indeed.
