by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 3rd, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

why-every-horror-fan-should-be-excited-about-the-alien-isolation-vr-game

The VR (Virtual Reality) movement is hot and heavy right now with so many different VR Headsets available on the market from many different companies. It’s not surprise that the video game industry are making more and more games and experiences in the VR world, which has Hollywood wanting a piece of that real pie. Ridley Scott is now getting into the VR world with his upcoming new film ‘Alien: Covenant‘, which we saw the first trailer to that recently.

It might be for director Ridley Scott’s birthday, but we get the gift from 20th Century Fox! What kind of gift you ask? A new screenshot from the upcoming ‘Alien: Covenant‘! It shows the, now 79 year old, director standing near one of his classic ‘Alien‘ creations.

Hey guys, Jana here,

alien_logo2.0.0

Ridley Scott has decided that as long as he’s getting such great buzz for ‘The Martian‘ and has all the press attention he could want, why not use it to tease the die-hard ‘Alien‘ fans at what is next to come in the franchise? Instead of months of calling the film a ‘Prometheus‘ sequel, we OFFICIALLY have a title – ‘Alien: Covenant‘ and we have a little more on the synopsis front, too.

The news is full of examples of a person overcoming what appear to be insurmountable odds. It’s no surprise that art imitates life in this vein. Granted the particular set of circumstances in this film have yet to be duplicated in reality, but it’s only a matter of time. I’m talking about the next Matt Damon vehicle, ‘The Martian‘.

National Geographic Channel has teamed with Tony and Ridley Scott to produce a two-hour documentary based on ‘Killing Lincoln: The Shocking Assassination that Changed America Forever’ by Bill O’ Reilly.  The documentary, set to begin production in the spring for an early 2013 premiere globally on the National Geographic Channel, will keep the fast pace of the book, described as a historical thriller with a John Grisham-style narrative about the 1865 murder of President Abraham Lincoln and the furious manhunt for his killer.

Ridley Scott talks Alien Prequel…Gonna Be Hardcore

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 3rd, 2010

In a recent interview with Ridley Scott (director of the first Alien movie and Gladiator), he said concerning the two Alien Prequels “will be really nasty and tough to watch.”   He went on to say “We are talking about Gods and engineers. Engineers of space. And were the aliens designed as a form of biological warfare? Or biology that would go in and clean up a planet.”

He also revealed the film will explore the origin of the “Space Jockey” by saying…

“I sat thinking about the franchise, which now has died on the road somewhere way back and lying in the dust, and thought what I should do is go back. In the first ‘Alien’, when John Hurt climbed up and over the top of the rise. There was a massive giant lying in a chair.  The chair was either a form of engine or some piece of technology and I always thought no one has ever asked who was the space jockey?”

Ridley is set to direct the two prequels as of now.

Now I have a hardcore love for all the Alien films.  One of the first films I remember seeing besides E.T. was Aliens in the theater.  My dad took me to see it and I remember loving every bit of and how much it scared me.  I was an Alien fan for life.  Saying that I like all the Alien films but not as much as the first two.  It is good to see the original director come back and make a hardcore movie.  Now i wish it was not a prequel, but more of a re-imagining.  To be honest, most prequels are SHIT.  Just look at the Star Wars prequels.  And hopefully Ridley Scott will redeem himself from his recent turd effort of Robin Hood.

THE FILM

(Portions of this “film” review are written by Dan Moran)

Sequels should never be this good. Blade Runner 2049 is Blade Runner adjacent. It is packed with so many themes and things to discover on repeat viewings. The connection to the original is blatantly there but this movie pushes so far beyond the original and expands the World.

4K UHD Review: Alien: Covenant!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 25th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

THE FILM

We live in a time where all of our favorite films and television programs from decades ago are getting sequels, rebooted, and remade. The ALIEN franchise that we have all come to love over the years has had its share of revamps. Luckily, the original filmmaker Ridley Scott, who made ALIEN back in 1979 came back a few years ago and made an early sequel to the franchise with PROMETHEUS. Clearly, Scott isn’t done telling stories in this horrifying universe, and we now have a sequel with ALIEN: COVENANT, which breathes new life into this stale franchise and promises more sequels and even more scares. What we loved about the original ALIEN is certainly present in a lot of COVENANT.

Alien: Covenant is Coming to 4K and Blu-ray!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 6th, 2017

Well well well. It’s nowhere near game over man with the Alien franchise or their home video releases. Alien: Covenant is coming to 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD on August 15th with an earlier Digital release on August 1st. In addition to the mass roll out of these releases, there will also be Limited Edition Exclusives available at certain retailers. Luckily, there won’t be any bonus features specific to the different retailers like they’ve annoyingly done in the past. These exclusives are basically package-only differences, which you can read about below. It looks like Dolby Atmos will be the preferred audio format along with a ton of extras included. I can’t wait to watch this again.

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

We’ve all had or been in the vicinity of someone having a complete meltdown. We never want to have one ourselves, because our dignity goes right out the window and we say and do things we regret. They’re just a part of life, and we can control it with a variety of medicine, breathing techniques, and various other forms of activity. Hopefully, we would have our meltdowns in the privacy of our own homes or in front of a small group of friends. We would never want to turn into Beast Mode in a public space.

Review #2 of ‘Alien Covenant’!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 22nd, 2017

Dan M., here….

Alien-Covenant-Teaser-Trailer-020

A crew gets a distress signal from a planet. Crew lands on that seemingly abandoned planet. Planet has aliens. Aliens infect or attack humans. A survivor or two must fight said alien to get off the planet. Rinse and repeat. That isn’t to say the Alien: Covenant is a bad movie, it really isn’t but as far as the broad strokes are concerned it is a paint by numbers Alien movie. A marked improvement from Prometheus because it has better characters but the formula to this point is getting a bit stale for me. I didn’t hate this movie. I know it sounds like I did but really I’m just ready for it to evolve a bit more.

This holiday weekend, we were not only given food, gifts, love, kisses, and hugs; but we also received a different type of hug. We got a new face hugger in the ‘Alien: Covenant‘ trailer. Yes, a new ‘Alien‘ film is coming on May 19th, 2017 and is directed by the Ridley Scott, who gave us the original ‘Alien’ film. This is a red band trailer and is all sorts of scary and wonderful. This is the ‘Alien’ movie we’ve been looking for over the past couple of decades, and judging by this trailer alone, this looks to deliver. Refn has been wanting to remake ‘Solange‘ for a while now, and after the Cannes screening of ‘Planet of the Vampires‘, Refn and Lucisano decided to move ahead with the project.

Dave Bautista Signs Onto ‘Blade Runner’ Sequel!!!

Dave Bautista has made a name for himself in a few galaxies. Bryan Kluger’s Best/Worst of 2015!!

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

I can’t believe how fast this year has gone by. 2015 was an interesting year to say the least, most of which was great. Movie-wise, I think 2015 had some excellent films filling its theaters, but of course it had some real stinkers too. Below is my list of the Best and Worst films of 2015.  I believe this year I watched over 175 new films, theatrically speaking and it was very difficult to narrow them down from 25. After some strawberry cake covered in Lucky Charms, I finally had a TOP 15, however, these films are in no particular order this year. But when you talk about the Best movies, you have to mention the worst too. My list tends to be a tad bit different from others, but hey, I’m twisted. I highly encourage you to seek out these movies – good or bad and enjoy the rest of your year.

Film Review: ‘The Martian’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 1st, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

martian-gallery3-gallery-image

It’s no doubt in my mind that director Ridley Scott was the perfect person to direct ‘The Martian‘, which was based off of Andy Weir’s 2011 novel of the same name. His brilliant story telling and eye to make a desolate planet like Mars look beautiful is simply majestic. Scott is mostly known for directing ‘Alien‘ and ‘Blade Runner‘, which kind of makes him one of the Godfather’s of science-fiction, but he has a few other gems on his resume too, all in different genres. With a movie like ‘The Martian‘ that is in the sci-fi realm, I was pleasantly surprised and overjoyed to find the film quite funny with a very feel-good quality to it, which is something that is not really present in Scott’s sci-fi movies.

There are directors that you want telling the heart-wrenchingly true stories based on fact. Spielberg was unflinchingly loyal to history when he made ‘Schindler’s List‘ and ‘Saving Private Ryan‘. Mel Gibson brought the history of William Wallace to life as he led the Scots in revolt against England in ‘Braveheart‘. Ridley Scott dove into the horrific tale of ‘Blackhawk Down‘ and pulled no punches with the details. ‘Act of Valor‘, ‘Zero Dark Thirty‘ and ‘Lone Survivor’ are all cut from the same cloth as the previously mentioned films. The memory and honor of the dead lives on through these fact-based projects. One name you won’t see at the top of my wish list to direct a piece like these is Michael Bay.

Friendships were lost, fights ensued, and blood was shed, but at least we got the picks, right? The novels written by Cormac McCarthy always have haunting aspects with exquisite words that explore human nature while streaming the stories through your imagination in beautiful visions that starkly contrast with the depictions of gruesome violence. Translating his vision to the big screen has not always been easy, but with his first original screenplay the writer has taken more control of his story in the film medium. In The Counselor, McCarthy, veteran director Ridley Scott, and a well-rounded cast present a powerful drama about moral dilemma and the inevitable path we create for ourselves when we make choices.

This gives detective Max Lewinsky one last chance to catch the man he has always been after. As they face off, they start to uncover a deeper conspiracy they both need to solve in order to survive.

Blu-Ray Review: ‘Prometheus’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 8th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

“In space no one can hear you scream.”

We have all been hearing about a movie called ‘Prometheus’ for sometime now, and all of us fans have been trying to piece the puzzle together on what it has to do with Ridley Scott’s ‘Alien’ film.  Since Scott directed ‘Prometheus’ and the original ‘Alien’ film, there has to be some sort of connection from what we have seen from the trailers, right?  The filmmakers told us that ’Prometheus’ would be a prequel to the ‘Alien’ film.  After seeing ’Prometheus’, I can say that it’s a very early prequel.  I’m  certainly happy Scott returned to this universe, because the ‘Alien’ franchise has been in a state of decay for a number of years starting with the 4th installment and then onto the ‘Alien vs. Predator’ series.  So, I was truly hoping to get an original film, but with strong ties to the ‘Alien’ franchise.  The question is, did it work?

Hi, Bryan Here….

Director James Cameron recently spoke with the good folks at GuardianUK and mentioned that he wants to make the sequel to Ridley Scott’s ‘Prometheus’.  Let’s not forget that Ridley Scott directed the first ‘Alien’ film while James Cameron followed that up with his sequel ‘Aliens’.  It’s only fitting that the two directors would direct the prequels one after the other.

Check Out the ‘Prometheus’ International Trailer!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 16th, 2012

Hi Bryan Here….

I’m very psyched about ‘Prometheus‘.  Ridley Scott returning to the ‘Alien’ esque sci-fi realm.  Such a great cast and the trailers so far have been great.  I hope I can keep myself away from major spoilers of this movie, because I want don’t want to know too much about it before I see it.  Enjoy the trailer below.

Hollywood has a rich tradition of releasing competing movie projects at virtually the same time.  Armageddon squared off against Deep Impact.  Before that, Big duked it out with Vice Versa and roughly 87 other body-swapping comedies, the last of which was kept on a shelf until finally being released earlier this year (The Change-Up).  So it is that two studios have set their sights on updated interpretations of Snow White, currently scheduled to be released with 3 months of each other. Hi Bryan Here…

NASA has come out with  a list of the most absurd and the most plausible sci-fi movies that could potentially happen and are the most realistic and then the latter which would be the films that could never happen and are completely ridiculous.  I am suspecting that they did this not only for fun, but possibly for some certain people that actually think the world is going to end come the end of 2012.

DVD/BLURAY Releases for 3rd Week of September

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 20th, 2010

This new column will be a weekly post on new DVDS and BLURAYS that are coming out each week. You can read a small description of the release and you can click on the pictures which will send you over to AMAZON so you can purchase the titles for a great discount. Enjoy this week’s titles.

The award winning movie, “American Beauty” that put Sam Mendes (Road to Perdition) and Alan Ball (Six Feet Under/True Blood) on all of our Radars. This is going to look spectacular on bluray. I am looking forward to the commentary track by Mendes and Ball on this release. I loved this movie when it came out in the late 90’s. I cannot believe it has been that long ago. Remember this one best picture at the oscars.

Criterion is like the Neiman Marcus of DVDS. They have the best transfers, audio, and extras out of any DVD. Period. This was released a number of years ago on DVD and now we get the high-def transfer. Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant are amazing in this dark comedic thriller. I highly recommend picking this up.

From the creator of Amelie and City of Lost Children comes the black comedy “Delicatessen”. It came out in 1991 and became an instant cult classic and was favored by tons of critics and the masses. Now we get it in high-def and with some exclusive HD extras including a new retrospective documentary with the director and a behind the scenes featurette and 20 page collectible booklet. Add to that commentary with the director and this is a must buy. This is an amazing crazy little film. A must see.

The Experiment is film that has been kept under the radar for some time now. It stars Adrian Brody and Forest Whitaker. “Adrien Brody and Forest Whitaker star as ordinary men who find themselves transformed by strange circumstances in The Experiment. Tempted by a large paycheck, 26 men agree to be divided into prisoners and guards and placed in a mock prison for two weeks–but within a matter of days, these seemingly sane men have turned the mock prison into a sadistic pressure cooker. The Experiment is in part a remake of a German film, Das Experiment, which was inspired by a psychology experiment conducted at Stanford University in 1971–an experiment sometimes cited as demonstrating an innate human capacity for sadism.” I am looking forward to seeing this. It sounds very interesting and I love the two main actors.

The hilarious television series “Modern Family” makes its home video release debut this Tuesday. I loved this show. It replaced “Arrested Development” for me. I laughed at every episode and found all the characters engaging and hilarious. The 1st season is packed with deleted scenes, deleted family interviews, gag reel, fizbo the clown and a wide variety of behind the scenes featurettes. Definitely worth picking up and if you have not seen the show, you wont be sorry when you get this and watch it.

Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood is a tragic mess. Now don’t get me wrong, it looks beautiful, but as a whole the film is a complete turd. Ridley was so set on making this a factual based movie and making everything authentic. But you know the story of Robin Hood is one of fantasy and wonder and magic. All of that is missing from this film and goes on for way too long and just bored me to death. I will not be watching this again unless the masterminds over at Rifftrax get their hands on it.

That’s it for this week. Stay tuned for next week when I look at Iron Man 2.
