Film Review: ‘The Raid 2’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 10th, 2014

Hi, Bryan Here…

raid2kitchen

The only thing you need to know  about ‘The Raid 2: Berandal‘ is that you need to run to the nearest theater that’s playing ‘The Raid 2: Berandal‘ and watch it. This is the sequel to 2011’s ‘The Raid: Redemption‘ by Gareth Evans, and is even better than its first literal non-stop hardcore action movie from only a few years ago. This time around, we have a 2.5 hour film full of some of the best action sequences and fight choreography ever put on film. In addition to that, we have one hell of story to go with it, which was mostly lacking from the first film, which I’m not complaining about at all.

The New ‘Raid 2’ Trailer is Kick-Ass!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 2nd, 2014

Hi, Bryan Here…

theraid2_large

If you haven’t seen the first ‘Raid‘ movie yet, please find it, purchase it, and watch it, for you will have your socks blown off on just how amazing and entertaining it is. It literally is non-stop action with some of the coolest fight scenes ever filmed. We’ve told you before that there was a sequel to this coming out, and that this sequel literally takes place two hours after the events of the first film, which is INSANE!! So here is a great trailer that will fulfill your hopes and dreams that this sequel will be just as badass as the first film. Enjoy the trailer.

‘The Raid 2’ Trailer is Here!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 8th, 2013

Jana B., Here…

the-raid-2b

The teaser I just viewed from The Raid 2: Berandal is an onslaught to the senses. The trailer definitely didn’t give too much away, if you want to know what it’s about, you’re going to have to read about it. The movie picks up 2 hours after the first one ends. Expectations are definitely high for this film as the first one garnered a lot of praise. Writer-director Gareth Evans gives us another corrupt crime syndicate storyline. This one should definitely draw off the popularity and fans of the first movie. I’m really curious how they are going to continue this one 2 hours after the first movie ended.

4K UHD Review: Tomb Raider (2018)!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 14th, 2018

THE FILM

(This film portion was written by Dan Moran.)

Well the streak remains intact. There still hasn’t been a good video game movie. Tomb Raider isn’t a horrible time at the movies but it sure isn’t a good one. You know that old saying “You can’t put lipstick on a pig.”? Well you can’t put great actors in a video game movie either… its still a damn video game movie.

Film Review: ‘Tomb Raider’ (2018)!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 14th, 2018

In 2013 Square Enix came out with a new Tomb Raider game, a reboot of the original game that was released in 1996. Now it’s 2018 and Square Enix is giving us a movie based on the reboot game, and is itself a reboot of a film series from 2001. Still with me?  I know, time is a flat circle.

Hey guys, Jana here,

Ghostbusters_4K_UHD_OutersleeveFrontLeft

“I ain’t afraid of no ghost!” OK, so I AM afraid of a ghost, lucky for me I know who to call to take care of my problems and, on DVD, they deliver. If you didn’t come up with ‘Ghostbusters‘ after that sentence, you need to reboot your life to a time where it’s acceptable for you to pop your Ghostbusting cherry and get on it and may Harold Ramis have mercy on your soul. For the rest of you that totally got GB, you win all the points, you can’t use them for anything but you’re a winner today, dammit.

Dan Moran’s Top Films of 2018 and his Award Nominations!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 30th, 2018

This year I saw 102 new movies in 2018. That number is actual movies released in 2018. I count Netflix and streaming movies released this year because that is where we are heading but the majority of the 102 was in movie theaters. I decided not to rank my top movies this year because at the end of the day the difference between #10 thru #3 is usually based on my mood when I write the list. So I just put my top movies in ABC order.

Film Review: ‘Mile 22’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 16th, 2018

Mile 22 is a movie where John Malkovich (in a weird hairpiece) looks straight into the camera and says, “He’s not a double agent…He’s a triple agent!” That pretty much sums up the quality of this latest collaboration between Mark Wahlberg and director Peter Berg. It is loud, full of action, and constantly twists itself in stupid knots trying to be more than a fun summer blockbuster.

Mile 22 opens with a decently long prologue of a team known as ‘Overwatch’ (no relation to the video game), led by Mark Wahlberg infiltrating a Russian sleeper cell home in a suburban town. Wahlberg’s on the ground team consists of Lauren Cohan and Ronda Rousey. In the sky, there is John Malkovich and a group of computer nerds watching every aspect of the operation. There are also two males on Wahlberg’s team which I will address in a minute. This opening sequence is really, really well done, It has a lot of tension and the suspense builds and builds through the final moments. Despite my enjoyment of the scene overall they still went out of their way to show that ‘Overwatch’, which is allegedly the best of the best and doesn’t exist, is also really terrible at their job because all the planning and technology advantages they still let some 20-year-old guy get the drop on the two male members of ‘Overwatch’ killing them.

Fantastic Fest is one of the events that is pure bliss for any fan of genre cinema. If you love horror, sci-fi, foreign, action, and even adult-oriented movies from the 1970s, then Fantastic Fest is the place to let that freak flag fly high and be with like-minded individuals that truly appreciate the art of movies. All of the madness and fun will take place in Austin, TX starting on September 20th and run for 10 days at the Alamo Drafthouse on South Lamar St. This year, which is the 14th annual festival of Fantastic-ness, captures the essence of the Korean movie scene with a ton of cool films being showcased from Korea, both new and old. This is something you won’t want to miss.

The first wave of movies has been announced, including the World Premiere of the WWII horror movie called ‘OVERLORD‘ from J.J. Abrams. In addition to that film, Fantastic Fest will host Gareth Evans‘ horror movie ‘APOSTLE‘. Gareth gave us the amazing films ‘THE RAID‘ AND ‘THE RAID 2‘, so you can expect some insane fight scenes and horrific imagery. Alos, a film called ‘THE NIGHT COMES FOR US‘, which stars the badass from those ‘RAID‘ movies will be shown, meaning Iko Uwais will stun us once again with his amazing physical skills. If you were a fan of ‘THE GREASY STRANGLER‘, the director of that movie Jim Hosking has a new film called ‘AN EVENING WITH BEVERLY LUFF LINN‘, which is being described as a David Lynch meets John Waters type of movie. You had me at Greasy Strangler.

Lastly, there are some vintage films coming through from AGFA (American Genre Film Archive), one of which has peaked my interest from the title alone – ‘MARY JANE’S NOT A VIRGIN ANYMORE‘. I have high hopes for this one. Below is the list of films with cast and crew info, along with a brief synopsis. Enjoy and hope to see you all there.

We’ve got the latest trailer for ‘Tomb Raider’!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jan 18th, 2018

Hey guys, Jana here,

It’s a new year and we’re a few days closer to the debut of the ‘Tomb Raider‘ reboot which will hit theaters March 16. The film comes from Norwegian film director Roar Uthaug (‘The Wave‘, ‘Escape‘), while the screenplay comes from screenwriters Alastair Siddons (‘Trespass Against Us‘), and Geneva Robertson-Dworet. Her credits include some pretty big up and coming flicks like a ‘Dungeons & Dragons‘ film, ‘Captain Marvel‘, ‘Gotham City Sirens‘, and ‘M.A.S.K.: Mobile Armored Strike Kommand‘.

To carry out the visions of these filmmakers, they’ve brought an amazing cast on board. Alicia Vikander will take over the Lara Croft role, with Kristin Scott Thomas, Hannah John-Kamen, Walton Goggins, and Dominic West all lending their talents to this big-screen spectacle.

Film Review #2 – War For The Planet of the Apes!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 12th, 2017

Dan M., here….

War For the Planet of the Apes is the best movie I have seen this summer. It is astonishingly well done. Every aspect of this movie *at a minimum* worked. Some of the basic moments and scenes would be considered high points for lesser franchises. There is a ton to spoil in this film but I will not be doing that in this review. Hopefully in a few weeks once people have seen the movie we can discuss the moments that made this movie so damn good in greater detail.

Esteban Vihaio:
How may I be of service to you?
The Bride:
Where's Bill?
Esteban Vihaio:
Ahh... You must be Beatrix. I can see the attraction. I remember when Bill was only five years old, I took him to the movies. It was a movie starring Lana Turner. "The Postman Always Ring Twice" with John Garfields. And whenever she would appear on the screen, Bill would begin to suck his thumb to an obscene amount. And I knew from this very moment, that this boy was a fool for blondes. Mmm...
