Film Review: ‘Won’t You Be My Neighbor’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 8th, 2018

In the dumpster fire that is our world these days, Won’t You Be My Neighbor is film you didn’t know you needed.  It’s soothing, it’s sweet, and it’s a sentimental look back at what may be the best children’s TV show ever made. The documentary, brought to us by Morgan Neville, centers on Fred Rogers himself and mission he had to bring his message that love conquers all to viewers everywhere.

Hey guys, Jana here,

Oklahoma City‘ is a documentary about the tragic bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City in 1995. It comes from writer/director Barak Goodman (‘American Experience‘, ‘Frontline‘) and was nominated for an Emmy along with the other producers on the project, Emily Singer Chapman, Mark Samels (a previous winner of several Emmy’s and three times as many nominations), and Susan Bellows (also an Emmy winner and multiple time nominee). PBS aired the doc at the earlier part of 2017 but it made the festival circuits this summer and was an Official Selection for the 2017 Sundance Film Festival where it met positive reviews.

And the 2016 Golden Globe Nominees Are….

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 10th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

The awards show is January 10 on NBC hosted by Ricky Gervais. First off, let’s look at something AWESOME here. ‘MAD MAX: FURY ROAD‘ is nominated for BEST PICTURE. It needs to win. It should win. And if does win, we all go streaking. That being said…I can’t believe that ‘Me and Earl and the Dying Girl‘ was not nominated for anything. Come on. It’s one of the BEST films of the year. It’s also interesting to see no love for the final season of ‘Mad Men’ her either. Oh well.

Here is the list of nominees:

‘Sesame Street’ Is Coming To HBO In 5-Year Deal!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Aug 13th, 2015

Hey guys, Jana here,

♪♫ Can you tell me how to get, how to get to Sesame Street? ♪♫ The directions to that particular ear-worm’s location is going to take a slight detour from here on out. You can still tune in to PBS for your fix of Big Bird, Cookie Monster and Oscar the Grouch along with a side of the alphabet song, if you’re feeling rusty, but that hit will be available on another unlikely network, as well, HBO.

Hey guys, Jana here,

PicMonkey Collage

I would say I’m a loyal fan. Take Ewan McGregor for example – I’ve seen every film I can find, heard him narrate a piece on polar bears for PBS and watched his motorcycle treks, I even have the book! This loyalty is not spent on McGregor, alone, but a handful of actors/actresses and directors make up my little circle. One of those directors is Martin Scorsese. If he made it, chances are I’m going to love it. So I’m looking forward to HBO’s untitled Rock’n Roll drama series and it’s that series that is making the news with a couple of new actor-commitments.

Hello Jana here,

downton-abbey-logo

Downton Abbey‘ has taken the TV series platform that Americans are familiar with, turned it on its ear, polished it to a British-shine and showed us what a witty, elegant and proper thing it could be. Unless you’ve been living in a cave, you know the premise. And  if you’ve been living in a cave, I’ll give you a rundown so you’re caught up. Lord Crawley sees his family heritage, especially the grand country home Downton Abbey, as his mission in life. The death of his heir aboard the Titanic means distant cousin Matthew Crawley, a Manchester lawyer, suddenly is next in line and accepts moving onto the vast estate with his even more modernist, socially engaged mother, who clashes with his lordship’s domineering, conservative mother, the dowager. Marrying off the daughters is another concern. Meanwhile, the butler presides over a staff which serves the family, but also lead most of their entire lives in the servants’ quarters, intriguing amongst themselves.

Executive producing and directing the pilot are the duo of Phil Lord and Chris Miller from ‘The Lego Movie‘, ‘Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs‘ and ‘Clone High‘. This project is expected to produce 6-10 episodes and is part of Fox chairman Kevin Reilly’s plan to bypass pilot season altogether and go straight to series and cast projects outside of the traditional January-April pilot cycle.

Hi, Bryan Here….

globes-drink

The Golden Globes were last night and Tina Fey and Amy Poehler killed it. They were amazing.  Even former president Bill Clinton showed up to talk about Spielberg’s ‘Lincoln‘.  Even though I really liked the film ‘Argo‘, I was shocked when it won best film and director for Ben Affleck. I was happy to see ‘Django Unchained‘ win for best supporting actor for Christoph Waltz and screenplay for Tarantino. If this is any pre-cursor to the Oscars, I’d be completely let down if ‘Argo‘ takes it all.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great film, but not the best film of the year.  I expect it to and want it to win the best adapted screenplay.  Just my opinion.  Below are the full results from last night’s show.
