Netflix is Raising Prices Again!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 5th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

Netflix has a spending problem and we the customers are paying for it. #Bullshit The price of the most popular plan, which is the streaming plan that is normally $9.99. Prices are going up 10%, which is only a dollar a month, making it $10.99 now. I’d be okay with this, but nothing is happening to warrant this other than that the shit-heads at Netflix are selling the farm for more content.

Right on ♪♫

If you were unsure the answer was anything other than “Shaft”, you best be getting yourself a film-education right fast and in a hurry. If you just can’t seem to get that done, Netflix will give you a primer when they reboot the classic 1971 film that was already rebooted once in 2000.

Hey guys, Jana here,

Netflix’sBlack Mirror‘ debuted way back in 2011. A more innocent time because we didn’t have deep, lurking fears about technology and how it could do anything but improve our daily life. Then came Charlie Brooker and the anthology series that has forced me, at least, to cover all the cameras on my devices with tape or sticky tack. Coming back for it’s fourth season, we’ve got a little, and I do mean little, information on the next six episodes.

A Little Evil is coming to Netflix!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 22nd, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

Netflix is releasing a new film called Little Evil from writer/director Eli Craig (Tucker & Dale vs. Evil) that is a comedy-horror about a loving family of three. Well, maybe not loving, but more like the actual Antichrist. This looks like a lot of fun and has quite a good cast. If this is anything like Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, then we are in for an entertaining ride for sure. Enjoy the trailer below. Also, I must point out how eerily similar the boy in the poster above looks like a cross between Angus Young from AC/DC and Damien from The Omen. I can’t wait.

Hey guys, Jana here,

lost-in-space

For years, we’ve heard rumblings in the deepest pockets of space that the 1960’s sci-fi series ‘Lost in Space‘ was getting a remake. They even released a movie in 1998, 30 years after the series was relevant to most viewers. The response wasn’t enough to demand a sequel, but the concept of the show never went away. It was announced a few years ago that writers Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless have been writing a script that will rejuvenate the series if it could only find a home.

If it’s Bill Murray, it’s gotta be good, I’m extending that theory to Netflix and their holiday special, ‘A Very Murray Christmas‘. This winter, Murray will bless us with a musical special that’s going to be all-star, all the way. As if anything else would do.

Netflix is, at this point, well established in the original series game so it comes as no surprise that their further efforts are drawing some serious star power. Case in point – ‘Frontier‘ from director Brad Peyton, you might recognize that name on the director’s title for ‘San Andreas‘ with co-starred one hell of a powerhouse in Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. So we know Peyton can work with the big names, but who is his star going to be for the streamers new series, ‘Frontier‘ but Khal Drogog himself, Jason Momoa.

Hey guys, Jana here,

MAM_Vertical_Keyart_US.0

If there’s one thing I love when it comes to movies and TV, it’s the stories about serial killers. I’m not a (total) freak, I just have a deep fascination with the topic. I’ve read every true crime novel I could get my hands on, granted, one in particular made me sleep with my Louisville Slugger really close at hand, and I’ve argued the logistics of popular murderers (mainly Charles Manson) with friends who grew up during that era and I’m good at proving them wrong. So when I read that Netflix is picking up a documentary crime series about a particular killer, I met this news with higher-than-average excitement.

Leonardo-Dicaprio-6

Some celebrities use their status to get the best dinner reservations, vacations and all the clothes it would take at least 4 lifetimes to wear. Most of Hollywood’s elite find their own ways to give back to the society that made them household names, Leonardo DiCaprio has found his own way as a philanthropist, by giving a voice to the otherwise voiceless with his riveting and sobering documentaries. This is not the only way Leo gives back though, he serves on the boards of World Wildlife Fund, Natural Resources Defense Council, and International Fund for Animal Welfare, along with spearheading numerous public awareness campaigns and launching  The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation. This is clearly a man on a mission that is making his celebrity work for him, not the other way around.

The 80’s were all about excess. Occasionally things go so right in my world that it feels as if the collective gods have smiled down on me. HBO is going to offer its own stand-alone streaming service beginning next year! This bit of info…and the pint of Ben & Jerry’s awaiting me after dinner feels like a warm hug at the end of a craptastic day. I have been hoping and praying for a service like this from the premium channel. I’m among the number of people that are living with the cord cut from cable and satellite conglomerates. I don’t have any real problem with the situation, sometimes I miss the live showing of ‘The Walking Dead‘, but in a few hours I’m watching it anyway, I can deal with that. The real problem comes when I want to watch a favorite series without digging through my cabinet of DVD’s or *oh mon Dieu* I don’t have the series, yet.  This has been the exact scenario that led me to the pitiful prayer for an HBO streaming service.

If anyone would have suggested that the mass of little red envelopes flooding the post would one day throw the entertainment industry in a tizzy, we’d have laughed at the possibility. That was 1997 and none of us had any idea of how big a shadow Netflix would end up casting. The SVOD dropped a Jaws-like bomb into the normally calm seas of the movie biz and set the choppy seas in motion by announcing their partnership with The Weinstein Company and IMAX to release ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend‘ on the same day for Netflix viewers and IMAX theaters. Not content to let the waters settle, Netflix has another partnership they want to share. The controversial company and Adam Sandler have entered a partnership that will feature a four-pack of films, starring Sandler of course, and produced under his Happy Madison banner that will go straight to the subscription members, no theater stops in between.

Everyone remember the hype surrounding the new prequel series ‘Gotham‘? We’ve been inundated with teasers, internet ads, and just in general talking about how awesome, or un-awesome (is that a word?) it’s going to be. I want to be hopeful, because I’m a huge fan of the bat. Love the world of Gotham City and it’s dark, iniquitous, sullen tones. I’ve always loved the Tim Burton version of the Batman films, don’t get me wrong, Nolan’s flicks were excellent in that they gave me the action I crave. But I like how the first set of movies make him a real character and not either just a 40-pack a day smoker in a cowl, or an asshole.
