Hello, Jana here,

Max+Brooks

Some people are riding a wave behind their parents’ fame having little to no reason to be known on their own. There are some people, like Joe Hill that use a different name so they are judged solely on their own work and not that of a well-known parent, in this case, Stephen King. There is another kind that does not change their name, but doesn’t go around waving their parents’ names around that seek success on their own. Max Brooks is in that category. Most people hear his name and immediately think ‘World War Z‘ or the book ‘Zombie Survival Guide‘. The fact that he’s the son of the fantastic and hilarious actors and filmmaker Mel Brooks and Anne Bancroft is not used to elevate his success.

Favorite Movie Scene of the Day #19!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 26th, 2018

At least a dozen times per day, we all internally think the same sentiment. Those of us who are more courageous might speak it out loud. “I’m surrounded by fools.” Yes, we all think or scream this many times a day, whether we’re at the office, at home, out at a restaurant, or even watching the latest ‘Batman‘ movie at your local theater. Sure, we’ve replaced “fools” with other colorful words, such as morons, idiots, and even the occasional dingbat reference. It’s a thought that we all have shared more often than not throughout our daily lives that has become a universal joke over the decades. They’ve even made tons of merchandise, including keychains, bumper stickers, and T-shirts with this phrase on it. It’s like the universal wink to one another as we pass each other by in the hallways or on the streets. The other phrase we usually hear is “I’m surrounded by assholes”, which is more relevant today than ever.

Even the bad ones. While you’re eating those delicious bites of Turkey, watching ‘Charlie Brown Thanksgiving‘ or the Dallas Cowboys Game, we want to share with you some movies that we are thankful for. These movies have touched us in some way and have helped shaped our creative lives. Maybe this list will inspire you to make your own list and share it with us. These are the movies we are thankful for and dearly love.

Soundtracks we want to see released on Vinyl!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 15th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

preview

I just love soundtracks to movies. I always have and I believe I always will. There is something about a score to a film that just perks me up in all the right ways and inspires my creative side, whether it be to write a screenplay or go back an watch that old film I love. Music is an integral part to films and is considered to be the mojo of every movie. I’m sure we’ve all seen that odd YouTube video of the final scene in Star Wars: A New Hope, where Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Chewbacca walk down a crowded arena to receive their medals to zero music. It’s super weird and awkward with no music, but just random sound effects of footsteps and a rare cough, laugh, and Chewie’s roar. John Williams did such a great job, as he always does with Star Wars music, but that final scene of music really puts your emotions on full blast. It’s all from the soundtrack too.

‘Star Wars’ Spoof Is Coming to a Galaxy Near You!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 8th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

23807

Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer are the guys mostly known for bringing spoof movies to theaters. They are responsible for the ‘Scary Movie‘ franchise, ‘Epic Movie‘, and ‘Vampires Suck’ to name a few. It was only a matter of time before they got their hands on the ‘Star Wars’ franchise. It’s just so unfortunate that Mel Brooks wasn’t the first on this front to do another ‘Spaceballs‘, which is what we all really want. Well, Friedberg and Seltzer are set to start filming their ‘Star Wars‘ spoof this Fall, titles ‘Star Worlds Episode XXXIVE=MC2: The Force Awakens The Last Jedi Who Went Rogue‘.

Hey guys, Jana here,

gene-wilder-blazingsaddles-5

Gene Wilder passed away today at the age of 83. He is one of my favorite actors and he elicits a smile from me when I just see his picture. He is neck and neck with Robin Williams for being my favorite comedic actor and his death rocks the film community where he made some of his most lasting contributions.

‘The Doctor and the Devils’ Blu-Ray Review!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Nov 19th, 2014

Hey guys, Jana here,

doctoranddevils

THE FILM

The Doctor and The Devils‘ is a gothic thriller from the same production company that issued ‘The Fly‘, ‘Spaceballs‘ and ‘Robin Hood: Men in Tights‘ – Brooksfilms. Until I researched a little for this review, I didn’t even realize Mel Brooks‘ company made anything other than the classic hilarity his name automatically recalls. Brooks picked up the script from legendary poet Dylan Thomas, wherein the story of true life grave robbers, Burke and Hare is told. Maybe it was Brooks’ success with ‘The Elephant Man‘ that led him back to the surgical-experimentation game, whatever the conditions were, ‘The Doctor and The Devils‘ did not receive the same praise.

Re-Cast of ‘Blazing Saddles’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 15th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

url

Here is one of our infamous Re-Cast segments. We went ahead  and recast the funniest movie ever made, ‘Blazing Saddles‘, which was very ahead of its time and starred Cleavon Little, Gene Wilder, Slim Pickens, Harvey Korman, Madeline Kahn, Burton Gilliam, Mel Brooks, and Alex Karras. There is no way we can replace any of the amazing actors aboard here, but in this day and age, a remake is more likely to happen than not. So here are some of our suggestions on who should play which role? Do you agree with us? Let us know  if you agree or missed anything. And please let us know what you think by going to our FACEBOOK page and TWITTER page, which you should visit to catch up on all the latest information. Blu-ray Review: ‘Muppets Most Wanted’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 14th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

MuppetsMostWantedBlurayCombo_jpg_rgb

THE FILM

It’s very difficult to find a sequel that’s as good as the original. There aren’t a lot out there that are great sequels, but when they do come along, they are remembered forever. And maybe what worked so well for the first Muppet film that starred Jason Segel and Amy Adams is that it had a human element to it, and didn’t just follow the Muppets around. That’s not to say that this sequel ‘Muppets: Most Wanted‘ isn’t a lot of fun and very entertaining. It is, but it doesn’t have that magic that the last one had.

Film Review: ‘Mr. Peabody and Sherman’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 6th, 2014

Rebecca S., Here….

724674-mr-peabody-sherman-movie-6

When I was a little girl, I would snuggle up on the couch with my dad and watch reruns of his favorite cartoon, Rocky and Bullwinkle. He would tell me all about “moose and squirrel”, Boris and Natasha, George of the Jungle, and Dudley Do-Right… but the one I loved best was Peabody’s Improbable History. It was clever, snarky, educational in the worst way, and full of horribly great puns (which I am still a sucker for). I was worried when going to see the new DreamWorks (Shrek, How to train your Dragon) movie Mr. Peabody and Sherman, that it would not live up to the kitschy cool of the original 5 minute shorts. I was pleasantly surprised to find a smart, fun movie that kept the cool (and the horribly great puns).

Hi, Bryan Here….

We all knew that we were getting a sequel to the zombie smash hit ‘World War Z‘, since the first film made over $540 million dollars. There is much more to tell in that whole universe, which was though up by Mel Brooks‘ son, Max Brooks, who wrote the book. The first film was directed by Marc Forster and starred Brad Pitt, but now the studio has chosen a different director, which is Juan Antonio Bayona.

‘Director’s Bracket Final Four’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 13th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here…

film_shoot-1

Here we are with the FINAL FOUR picks of our infamous ‘Director’ Bracket’. Over the past thirteen weeks, we have set up a NCAA tournament style bracket with filmmakers, instead of basketball players. It’s been a rough thirteen weeks, narrowing down 64 directors. Well now, we have the final four, and it was tough. Friendships were lost, fights ensued, and blood was shed, but at least we got the picks, right? The match ups were between Stanley Kubrick and John Hughes, John Carpenter and Mel Brooks, David Fincher and Steven Spielberg, and Ridley Scott and Danny Boyle. Enjoy the show….

Film Review: ‘World War Z’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 20th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here…..

World-War-Z-Wallpapers

A well structured story was left on the back burner of the latest Hollywood apocalyptic zombie movie, ‘World War Z‘. Instead, we have a $200 million dollar action film that delivers on a few suspenseful situations as Brad Pitt is the one man to save the world from the sudden world-wide zombie epidemic. I imagine that with Brad Pitt starring in this zombie genre film, box office receipts will do well enough to compete with Pixar’sMonster’s University‘, but might have a difficult time making ends meet with its mega budget and long list of production problems the project had over the last few years.

2012 Emmy Award Winners!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 24th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

Below is the list of the winners for the 2012 Prime-Time Emmy Award Winners.  I don’t  see how ‘Modern Family’ and ‘Two and Half Men’ win anything.  They shouldn’t win any kind of award when they go up against shows like ‘Mad Men’, ‘Game of Thrones’, and ‘Breaking Bad’.  The Emmy judges need to be fired and never allowed to pick winners ever again.  However, much congratulations to ‘Homeland’, ‘Downton Abbey’, Aaron Paul, ‘Veep’, and ‘American Horror Story’

Hi Bryan Here….

Paramount Pictures has just released that the zombie epic ‘World War Z’ film will be released December 21st, 2012.  That is very fitting.  Isn’t that supposed to be the start of the end of the world according to the Mayan calendar?  I love this story.  Max Brooks (son of Mel Brooks) wrote the book which is an oral history account of the Zombie Apocalypse.  Brad Pitt will star in the film.

Hi Bryan Here….

I want to say I remember hearing about this, but I thought it was a long shot.  I guess not.  Warner Bros. is making yet another ‘Robin Hood’ tale, but this time set in the future.  It will be “a drama set in dystopian London, about the band whose brazen thievery restores hope in the beleaguered population.”  Warner has hired Michael Ross to re-write the script that was originally done by Jason Dean Hall.  And newcomer director, Nicolai Fuglsig is set to direct this film.  Nicolai is known for the crazy commercials he made.  See them below.

Hi Bryan Here….

I’m so happy this film is getting made, and things are running smoothly again for this film.  ‘World War Z’ is a novel told in the form of an oral history non-fictional stance.  The books was written by Max Brooks who is Mel Brooks son. But there is nothing funny about this book.  It is scary, horrific, and tense as hell.  The Daily Mail snapped some photos of some cool behind the scenes stuff going on.  Enjoy.

Film Review: ‘Concussion’!!

by Janet White on Dec 25th, 2015

Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…

Concussion - Omalu

Football, especially in Texas, is king and they are not alone in this mindset.  In Concussion, Pittsburgh, PA’s love for the game (as well as the rest of the country’s) and the NFL’s reign over it endangered Dr. Bennet Omalu’s (Will Smith) life.  Against all odds, Dr. Omalu, a forensic pathologist discovered and worked to educate the masses of the mental dangers of playing the beloved sport.  Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) and its related diseases, named by Dr. Omalu since he discovered the disease, was and possibly still is affecting football players from kids to professionals.  Dr. Omalu is from Nigeria and holds America in high esteem, but his reverence is about to be tested.

Hi Bryan Here…..

The 84th annual Academy Award nominations are in.  There are a couple of surprises that I was very happy to see on here and tons of disappointment.  It looks like the Academy went with 9 Best Picture noms this year rather than 10.  They also only went with 3 noms for make up which I can think of others, and only two for original song.  Was this a time issue, so that the event would be over on time for once rather than have all 5 songs being sung?  I don’t like it, but that’s how it is this year.  Below you will see each category with my thoughts.  Enjoy.
