Mark Millar Directs His First Film

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 17th, 2010

Mark Millar is a name to etch in your brain from now on.  He is the one responsible for bringing us “Kick-Ass”.  He has also written comics such as “The Authority”, “The Ultimates”, “Wanted”, and “Civil War” to just name a few.  He has definitely proved himself to be one of the better writers out there.  And now he is hard at work this very minute on his directorial debut with  a movie called “Miracle Park”.  It will be a superhero thriller.   He also says it will be a cross between “Trainspotting” and  “X-Men”.

Millar said in an interview: “…we’re trying to do a superhero movie with the sensibilities of Paranormal activities and Cloverfield. It’s low budget mostly shot on a handheld camera dealing with superpowers…it is set in the suburbs of Scotland so it feels like Trainspotting meets X-Men.”

“Set in contemporary Scotland, this dark, unique superhero story focuses on a group of animal rights activists who break into a low-level research laboratory to find a mile-long underground base owned and facilitated by the US government…Miracle Park breaks all the taboos of superhero cinema and offers a completely new take on the genre…The movie is shot entirely on a hand-held camera, establishing a tone more consistent with Paranormal Activity or The Last Exorcism than a traditional superhero release.”

“Miracle Park is chilling, violent and a totally new experience in cinema. Miracle Park starts where other superhero movies draw the line.”

Millar hopes to get a trailer out be January.  So far Millar can do no wrong.

4K UHD Review: ‘Kick-Ass’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 2nd, 2017

Back in 2008, Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. created a new comic book that was kick-ass, that they in fact named it ‘Kick-Ass‘. It was basically Spider-Man if Spider-Man had no superpowers and was had a hardcore R rating. The amount of creative energy, violence, comedy, and character development that went into the comic was magical as it was entertaining and wonderful. Millar just had a way with words and story plot that made this comic book called ‘Kick-Ass‘ solid gold. It was to nobody’s surprise that only two years later, we got a feature film directed by Matthew Vaughn (Layer Cake, X-Men: First Class, Kingsman) and produced by Brad Pitt, that ignited a new breed of R rated superhero films.

Film Review: ‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 20th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

Matthew Vaughn is back in the director’s chair with ‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle‘, the sequel to the hit 2015 action-comedy film that made over $414 million. The ‘Kingsman’ story line was originally written in comic book form from Mark Millar (Kick-Ass) and Dave Gibbons (Watchmen) and follows a super secret British spy service that protects the world from various threats. It’s like James Bond, but more fun, more violent, and with more laughs. With sequels, especially in the action world, the words “bigger, better, faster” are usually used everyday on set, in an attempt to out-do the previous movie. That can mostly be said for this sequel too, but with The Golden Circle – – it all works.

Could There Be A Hit Girl Prequel?!?!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jun 18th, 2015

Hey guys, Jana here,

There could be more ‘Kick-Ass‘ awesome heading our way according to film writer/director Matthew Vaughn. Of course I’m talking about the comic creation by Mark Millar that consists of average teenager turned vigilante superhero-wannabe Dave Lizewski who later becomes Kick-Ass and teams up with the father/daughter duo of Hit-Girl and Big Daddy.

Film Review: ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 12th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

I can officially say that the first AWESOME, kick-ass movie of 2015 is finally here, which is ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service‘. Based on Mark Millar’s (Kick-Ass) comic book, director Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass, Layer Cake, Snatch) has once again delivered the goods and high entertainment value with an homage to spy films, particularly the ‘James Bond‘ franchise. So what’s that mean? It means the guy who made ‘Kick-Ass‘ and produced ‘Snatch‘, made his own version of ‘James Bond‘, and it’s as violent and gory and funny as his other films I mentioned.

Is There a ‘Kick-Ass’ 3 In The Works?!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Aug 11th, 2014

Hey fanboys and girls, Jana here,

You may be asking yourself what is in the future for ‘Kick-Ass‘. Let me fill you in on the latest. When Mark Millar, the creator of the comic books the movies are based on, he’s not sure either. The freshman offering from the Kick-Ass universe took fans by storm and surprise. I can’t even count the number of times I’ve re-watched the movie, punched the air in victory or sat in shock watching the death of Big Daddy. Hit Girl is my personal favorite and I’ve tried telling my son numerous times that if he finds a girlfriend one day like her, I’ll be happy.

The film made stars out of relatively no-name actors Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Chloe Grace Moretz and moved them up to major players in the acting world from the bit parts they had been accepting. The budget for ‘Kick-Ass’ was a trifling $28 million dollars but brought $100 million at box offices and earned another $140 million in DVD sales. This kind of revenue would make any production company eager to sign on for a sequel and that’s what happened.

Film Review: ‘Kick-Ass 2’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 16th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here…

And we’re back with a sequel to Mark Millar’s ultra-violent real-life superhero story with ‘Kick-Ass 2‘, based on the comic series of the same name. This highly entertaining sequel amps everything up to eleven (if you can believe that) from their first outing on every level possible. From the characters, to the violence, to the story, everything is toned up, bloodied, and kicks into high gear as Jeff Wadlow replaces Matthew Vaughn as director this time around. This sequel delivers the goods for fans of the first film and comic series and much more, with a high expectation at the box office.

Kick-Ass 2 Is Gonna Happen

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 31st, 2010

If you have not seen the impressive movie Kick-Ass then head HERE and purchase this film.  It is one of the better super-hero movies to ever come out.  EVER.  If you have not read the comic then head HERE and check them out.

According to Mark Millar (the creator of Kick-Ass), the sequel is read to be made and will start production in about nine months.  That is such joyful news to me.

Mark said in an interview that Kick-Ass 2 will take off right where the first one left off.  So you know how Dave (Kick-Ass) has inspired others to become super heroes and fight crime?  Well Red Mist has done the same thing but for people to become villains.  Think about that.  Let it marinate.  That’s right.  Two huge groups or gangs forming alliances in New York.  Oh the carnage it will have.

The title will be “Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall”

Hi, Bryan Here….

Missed a week, but I’m catching up.  Had tons going on with the Asian Film Festival, which I shall have a few reviews for you shortly.  But this is last week’s releases, and next will be this week’s bluray picks.  Anywho, let’s jump right in and get to all the goodies.  As usual in this article, you will get some info about the disc and the extras that come with the movie as well as a personal opinion about the movie and a link to purchase the film over at AMAZON where you can save quite a bit of money, and it will give a small percentage kick back to this site so we can continue bringing you excellent stories and bizarre tales. So click on the pictures and start saving.

Enjoy and Here We Go!!
