Forest Whitaker Joining Liam Neeson for ‘Taken 3’!?!?

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 29th, 2014

Hi, Bryan Here…

18254-2068

It’s official. Director Olivier Megaton and actor Liam Neeson will return for the third installment of the ‘Taken‘ franchise. I guess Megaton loved Forest Whitaker in ‘Bloodsport‘ and ‘Ghost Dog‘, so he has asked Whitaker to be in the third film. I imagine he’ll say yes, because what else is Forest up to, besides winning Oscars now?

Hi, Bryan Here….

liam-neeson-taken-22-600x371

I laughed out loud when I received this information.  I think we have said all we need to say with these ‘Taken‘ movies. They always make decent money, but are never any really good. But that has never stopped Hollywood. So, in true fashion, we are getting a third ‘Taken‘ movie and Liam Neeson is finishing his contract negotiations to the tune of $20 million.

Hi, Bryan Here….

‘Taken 2’ will find you. ‘Taken 2’ will kill you. Liam Neeson returns as the heroic dad/ex-government agent from 2008’s smash-hit success, ‘Taken’. This looks all sorts of ridiculous as the director is Olivier Megaton who directed ‘Transporter 3’.   Just reading that out loud makes me laugh.  Enjoy the trailer.

Hi, Bryan Here….

Let’s just say it and admit all at once.  Liam Neeson is the ultimate badass.  He battles sith lords, leads the A-Team, takes on a murderous pack of wolves, saves a bunch of Jews, tries to kill Batman, and is the almighty Zeus.  There is nothing this guy can’t do.  Liam is currently in talks to star in ‘Non-Stop’, a film for Warner Bros. about an exhausted air marshal who kicks it into high gear when a serious threat goes down high up in the air in the middle of an international flight according to Variety.

Hi Bryan Here….

We wrote a bit about this movie a while ago and now we finally have a teaser trailer for this what looks like horrifying film.  In Alaska, an oil drilling team survive a plane crash in the wild, but are hunted by a vicious pack of wolves who think they are intruders.  This film looks tense as all hell.  I cannot wait for this.  I hope it’s good.  Enjoy the trailer below.  ‘The Grey’ is directed by Joe Carnahan and stars Liam Neeson.

Film Review: ‘Mark Felt’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 12th, 2017

Written By: Beka Perlstein

As I watched Mark Felt: The Man Who Brought Down the White House, I couldn’t help but feel like I was watching a movie about modern day politics. I wasn’t around during the Nixon years, so the story itself was intriguing to me, but as the film played I just became increasingly frustrated that history was seemingly repeating itself. Mark Felt was as they said, “the G-Man’s G Man.” He worked for the FBI for 31 years and it’s made clear at the outset of the film that under Hoover, he was the guy that held the key to Pandora’s Box. Felt knew when to talk, when to keep his mouth shut, when to bark and when to bite. Everyone in Washington knew not to cross him for fear of their secrets leaking. But that wasn’t Mark Felt. He. Did. Not. Leak.

WWE: Money in the Bank 2017 Predictions!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 16th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

WWE_MITB_2017_Poster

Strung 20 feet high over the center of squared circle, there hangs a metal briefcase with a contract inside. That contract guarantees one WWE superstar a match at anytime, anywhere for the biggest championship in the business. On July 18th in 2010, WWE held their first ever Money in the Bank PPV held in Kansas City, which was met with an abundant amount of praise. The WWE superstars must climb a very tall ladder and unhook the briefcase to win the match. There are no rules, no disqualifications, and all weapons and interferences are legal.

Film Review: ‘Silence’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 5th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

1481451621_silence-movie

Martin Scorsese certainly has had a fantastic career in film. From films like ‘Raging Bull‘ to ‘Goodfellas‘ and ‘Casino‘, to ‘Taxi Driver‘, ‘The Departed‘, and the recent ‘Wolf of Wall Street‘ – it’s easy to say that Scorsese is one of the best filmmakers still out there today. Scorsese may be know for a lot of gangster and super violent films over his career, but he has made a variety of other movies in different genres, including the recent kid’s film ‘Hugo‘. He is also a big supporter in world cinema, making it easier for people around the world to experience new filmmakers from other countries. One genre Scorsese is fairly into is the religion genre.

Film Review: ‘A Monster Calls’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 4th, 2017

Dan M., here…

maxresdefault

A Monster Calls’ is a kid version of ‘Manchester by the Sea’. I mean that in the nicest way possible. As one of 15 alleged movie fans in America who didn’t love ‘Manchester by the Sea’ (I hope this doesn’t hurt my review street cred) it is important for me to compare these two films, which at their core, deal with loss, grief, and growing up. The amazing part for me is that I think ‘A Monster Calls’ tackles these themes and issues in a more effective manner.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Max’!

by Janet White on Nov 16th, 2015

Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…

91DgUolLpdL._SL1500_

THE FILM

Bye Lassie…Bye Benji…Bye to my childhood doggie heroes.  There’s a new action star in town.  Max (Carlos) is the cleverest doggie hero ever.  A Belgian Malinois, Max, is also a Marine service dog.  Finally a film brings sincere tribute to the heroism and struggles these beautiful yet fierce animals endure. Max opens in a desert terrain shot as from Max’s point of view.  Max searches out the village for insurgents and a weapons stash.  Max is highly adept to weapons’ discovery and of course successful in warning his team of Marines of insurgents.  Kyle (Robbie Amell) is Max’s handler.  The two are inseparable.

Film Review: ‘Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 20th, 2015

Paul N., Here…

kahlil-gibran-the-prophet

Cartoons are often split into two categories: those for children, and those for adults. On the one hand, you have Disney classics, and on the other you have most anime. The two types have very distinct target demographics, and filmmakers gear their films to appeal to these specifics. On very rare occasion, you’ll get a film like Disney’s Fantasia that combines the two so beautifully that it appeals to both demographics. Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet, attempts this same feat with admirable gusto, falling just short of success.

TV Review: ‘Peaky Blinders’!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Oct 7th, 2014

Hey guys, Jana here,

peaky-blinders-fin_2705945b

I’m an addict. When I see a new TV series that I fall in love with, I marathon every episode until I reach the end, or a cliffhanger. Both of those conditions were incredibly true for my newest addiction – ‘Peaky Blinders‘. ‘Peaky Blinders‘ falls into one of my favorite topics when it comes to what I’m watching and it’s all about mafia. The show was produced by BBC and aired the first season beginning in September of last year. Then Netflix entered the equation by acquiring exclusive US distribution rights from the Weinstein Company and Endemol. It became available for streaming on September 30, 2014. Look it up, add it to your list and enjoy. It’s absolutely brilliant!

New Trailer For ‘Taken 3’ aka ‘Tak3n’!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Sep 30th, 2014

Hey guys, Jana here,

taken-3-poster-440x600

I love Liam Neeson. I love his voice, his looks – the whole package. I watch everything he’s been in, yes, even the crap movies. Believe me, there are some really bad movies in that lineup, too. He was the perfect voice for Aslan in ‘The Chronicles of Narnia‘, he was amazing as Hannibal in ‘The A-Team‘ and when he started his journey as Bryan Mills in ‘Taken‘, I didn’t think it was possible to love him more. Then came ‘Taken 2‘, I was excited about his return as Mills, but the film wasn’t the same as the original, no matter how hard they tried to emulate it. The end of production numbers proved it wasn’t a giant blockbuster, but still successful. Then some genius came up with the idea of ‘Tak3n‘. Yup, clever little title and Mills returns again. I have to think he didn’t agree to this after the second, but hopefully was a part of the contract when he signed on for 2. I have to hope Neeson is aware of how bad of an idea this film was but was contractually obligated to forge ahead.

Fernando’s Review of ‘The Equalizer’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 25th, 2014

Fernando M., Here….

denzel-washington-the-equalizer

Antoine Fuqua is two men.  He is the director of the critically acclaimed “Training Day,” for starters.  He is also evidently also the man that saw “Taken” a bunch of times.  When you put those experiences together, you get “The Equalizer.” Showcasing Denzel Washington again reprising his role as Denzel Washington, a strong , smooth, moral protagonist that is going to do a bunch of stuff with guns, but somehow still manages to have a part in the script where he gets to dance.  Denzel plays Denzel quite well, so it’s hard to fault him for that.  In this case in particular, he plays action Denzel better than ever!

Hey guys, Jana here,

hemlock-grove

If you haven’t watched ‘Hemlock Grove‘, yet, you’re missing out…or you just don’t have Netflix, either way, you’re missing out!  This series grips you from the first scene and it’s not let up in the two seasons it’s been exclusively on Netflix. In an unsurprising turn, the VOD company has renewed the original series for a 10-episode third season that’s heading out way in 2015.

The twice Emmy nominated thriller has some pretty decent star-power filling out its ranks. Famke Janssen, Bill Skarsgard and Dougray Scott are all featured. Janssen, best known from her days as Jean Grey in the original ‘X-Men‘ franchise, but has come into her own, shall we say, inner-bitch. Her characters are always underhanded, evil or they just want to eat children as in the case of ‘Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters‘ Oh! Don’t forget her absolute lack of concern for her daughter in ‘Taken‘. I adore Liam Neeson, but that movie-wife wanted to carry the testicles of every man she hooked up with in her perfect designer bag.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Non-Stop’!!

THE FILM

In the next installment of Liam Neeson saving the world, or in this case, 150 people 30,000 feet up in the air on a commercial airliner from New York to London, things are so over-the-top ridiculous, things tend to not make a whole lot of sense. But what do you really expect from aLiam Neeson movie these days? That being said, this thriller in the air called ‘Non-Stop‘ is quite fun and is less cheesy than the ‘Taken‘ films, but not as gritty as ‘The Grey‘.

Film Review: ‘A Million Ways To Die In The West’

by Gumbercules9000 on May 29th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

Seth MacFarlane is back with his second directorial effort with ‘A Million Ways To Die In The West‘. His first film, ‘Ted‘, which was a huge box office success, netting in almost $600 million from a budget of only $50 million, pretty much guaranteed that he would get to make any movie he wanted to in the future. MacFarlane is most known for creating and providing many of the voices for the cartoon shows such as ‘Family Guy‘, ‘The Cleveland Show‘, and ‘American Dad‘. All of which are family oriented shows. But with ‘Ted‘, he took it a couple of steps further and made a solid ‘R’ rated movie with tons of laughs and a decent story.

Warner Bros. Is Building A ‘Lego Movie’ Sequel!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Feb 24th, 2014

Jana B. here,

The Lego Movie

After the ‘Lego Movie‘ proved to be such a massive blockbuster hit world-wide, Warner Brothers is not letting any of the momentum die down before announcing a sequel. While the details about the coming film are sketchy at best, one thing we know for sure is the release date has been staked out for May 26, 2017, with it being the beginning of the long Memorial Day weekend, we can assume it will be the tentpole for their summer film releases. At this point, this is the only film to claim the release date. So far, the only real thing that has been confirmed is the release date and that it will be the Lego universe. The rumor mill is spinning with whether or not it will be a proper sequel to the film in theaters now or if it will be a Lego Ninjago spinoff.

It was only a matter of time before the ‘Family Guy‘ creator and voice made his 2nd feature live-action film. ‘A Million Ways To Die in The West‘ synopsis is: Seth MacFarlane plays a hapless farmhand in the Old West who loses his girl (Amanda Seyfried) when he ducks out of a fight, only to be taught to shoot by the wife (Charlize Theron) of a gunfighter (Liam Neeson) in this Media Rights Capitol western comedy. This looks pretty funny, plus it has Neil Patrick Harris in it. The film is set to release May 30th. Enjoy the trailer.

The Top 10 Gangster Movie List!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jan 19th, 2014

Jana B. here,

GangsterListBANNER

Some girls are all into sappy romances or heart touchingly saccharine-sweet movies. Movies that sometime contain a troubled family learning to love a curmudgeonly, absent  grandparent, or a shattered family recovering from the death of one of its immediate member. Sometimes it’s a pet that waltzes, unexpectedly, into a tumultuous atmosphere that teaches everyone to love more before it’s killed in some unimaginative way.

I hate movies like that. I hate books like that and I hate songs like that. If a member of a family is killed, it better be a mafia family, and I get to look forward to their violent, bloody and evil retribution.  I am so fascinated by the inner workings of these ‘families’. I love to see the fronts they use to launder their income and imagine ways I would do it if I was involved.

Bryan’s Review of ‘Taken 2’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 4th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

Of course they would make a sequel to ‘Taken’.  The film made over $226 million dollars with a budget $200 million smaller than its gross.  Did they need to make a sequel?  No, they didn’t.  But, since the weird popularity of Liam Neeson as of recently, it was inevitable that the studio make a sequel.  Neeson has sort of taken on the persona that Chuck Norris or Nic Cage has of the past few years.  Meaning that now, Neeson is one true ultimate badass, that fights aliens, robots, kills every bad guy everywhere in the world, and is a jedi.  ‘Taken 2’ takes all of this power, and pretty much forces it into one film. As my friend said, “No, ‘Taken 2’ is not good, but on a Nic Cage scale, it’s a 9.  And I have to agree with that.

Bryan’s Review of ‘Wrath of the Titans’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 30th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

I had the distinct displeasure of seeing ‘Wrath of the Titans’ this week.  This sequel to the remake of ‘The Clash of the Titans’ is a complete and utter sad disaster on every level of filmmaking.  I haven’t seen a film willingly destroy itself in every way in a long time.  I’m really not sure what the filmmakers and execs were going for with ‘Wrath of the Titans’, but if they wanted an all out jumbled mess of a film, then they succeeded.  As one of my friends who screened the film with me said, “I expect nothing from this film.”  Well, we got nothing from ‘Wrath of the Titans’.  The screen might have well been a blank screen for two hours, because then maybe my imagination could have projected something better than my eyes viewed.

Peter Berg (Hancock) produces and directs Battleship, an epic action-adventure that unfolds across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force. Based on Hasbro’s classic naval combat game, Battleship stars Taylor Kitsch as Lt. Alex Hopper, a Naval officer assigned to the USS John Paul Jones; Brooklyn Decker as Sam Shane, a physical therapist and Hopper’s fiance; Alexander SkarsgÃ¥rd as Hopper’s older brother, Stone, Commanding Officer of the USS Sampson; Rihanna as Petty Officer Raikes, Hopper’s crewmate and a weapons specialist on the USS John Paul Jones; and international superstar Liam Neeson as Hopper and Stone’s superior (and Sam’s father), Admiral Shane.

Bryan Finds Out He’s ‘Unknown’!!! (A Review)

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 13th, 2011

Hi Bryan Here….

Here is a little film starring Liam Neeson, January Jones, and Diane Kruger.  A pretty great cast to start with and an interesting enough story line.  Does it work?  Ina way, yes it does.  I’ll say this off the bat.  Many people will compare and bring up Liam Neeson’s prior film, ‘Taken’.  Let me assure you, this  is not ‘Taken’, nor is it as good as ‘Taken’.  Sure it is a fun thrill ride to watch, but it ends up being a “by the book” amnesia film with really no plot twist or turn after the first half of the film.  That being said, ‘Unknown’ is still fun ride to watch.

Hi Bryan Here….

So we are talking about the film ‘Unknown’ here.  A film that stars Liam Neeson, January Jones, and Diane Kruger.  According to IMDB, ‘Unknown’ is about “A man awakens from a coma, only to discover that someone has taken on his identity and that no one, (not even his wife), believes him. With the help of a young woman, he sets out to prove who he is.”  So there’s that.  Then there’s Boomstick’s newest contributor and writer….Shirtz.  Shirtz is the ambassador for the underground world of the occult and bizarre to our human society.  He has been everywhere and he has seen everything.  We are very happy to have him at Boomstick Comics from now on so give him a warm welcome, but be careful.  He bites.

Bryan Here…

Earlier today, it was reported that the Mel Gibson cameo as a tattoo artist in the upcoming sequel to The Hangover was cancelled.  This was caused by certain actors and crew members and friends of the producers protesting Mel’s involvement.  Supposedly Zach Galafianakis was the ring leader in this.

So as quick as lightning strikes, there is a replacement for Mel’s role as the tattoo artist.  The character calls for somebody who is completely CRAZY and somebody who you would be scared to talk with.

The man taking on the role now is Liam Neeson.  Yes a Jedi will be in the Hangover sequel.

Hangover star Bradley Cooper had a hand in getting his A-Team co-star the gig for this movie.

Can’t wait to see Liam pull this character off.

What do yall think?

Hi all, Jana here,

endo-silence-full

Martin Scorsese (‘The Wolf of Wall Street‘ and ‘The Departed‘) is one of my favorite directors. This hasn’t been a secret because I rave on his work, constantly. Well, right now Scorsese is going to get the chance to make a film he’s had on his list for more than a decade. I can’t imagine how that must feel to wait for over 10 years to do a film and it finally comes together! The center of attention in this announcement is that it’s for the film of the novel ‘Silence‘. Novelist Shusako Endo had given permission for the novel adaptation to be made once before in 1971. As with everything in Hollywood these days, a re-make is in the works. This time, a bigger budget, bigger stars, bigger director and , probably, a bigger audience.

Bryan Reviews ‘Battleship’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 18th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

I remember playing ‘Battleship’ as a kid. I remember it being a little like chess, requiring determination, logic, strategy, and a bit of fun.  Unfortunately, the film ‘Battleship’ has none of that.  It’s a complete calamity on all levels, with the exception of some incredible special effects.  FACT: ‘Battleship’ has a run time of 131 minutes.  That’s over two hours, folks.  In that span of over two hours (which I’ll never get back), the film failed in storytelling, action sequences, logic, and character development.  The whole film was laughable and made no sense at all.  It’s as if a third grader made the film.  And that’s sad, because I like director Peter Berg.  He’s done some really good stuff like, ‘The Rundown’ and ‘Very Bad Things’.  But with ‘Battleship’, he missed the mark by a good 100 feet.
