4K UHD Reivew: Kong: Skull Island!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 17th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

THE FILM

We’ve seen a ton of versions of ‘King Kong‘ over the decades from the 1933 version to the Jeff Bridges version in the 1970s, and even more recently, the 2005 version that was directed by ‘Lord of the Rings‘ director Peter Jackson. ‘King Kong‘ has been a staple in entertainment and pop culture since he debuted in the early 30s and he is showing no signs of stopping, thanks to Warner Bros.and Legendary Pictures who are taking their cues from Marvel and creating their own universe called the ‘MonsterVerse‘.

Film Review #2: ‘Kong: Skull Island’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 12th, 2017

Bad news. Kong: Skull Island isn’t a good movie, but it isn’t a bad one either. It exists in that awful “shrug” territory “Why?” or “I guess that works.”

Lets break it down!

FILM REVIEW: “OPERATION MEKONG”

by Justin Cline on Oct 4th, 2016

operation-mekong_poster_goldposter_com_1

Justin C. here,…

Operation Mekong waits until the final credits roll to inform its audience that the film they’ve just witnessed is based on a true story. I can’t help but feel that this may have been by design as it certainly would have lessened my enjoyment to think that the filmmakers meant for me to believe even for an instant that what I was watching was true.

More than anything else, Mekong is an action movie, but does the element of realism hurt it or help it? Read the rest of this entry »

Good Morning ‘Walking Dead‘ fanatics!!!! I know you were on the edge of your seat like I was last night so lets get to it.  The show starts out with a flashback scene between Michonne and Andrea the previous winter. The camera starts with the chain that is holding Michonne’s armless and toothless walkers. They are in the woods and around a camp fire, warming up food. Andrea is warming up the food while Michonne is checking out the perimeter.  They are chit chatting around the fire and Andrea brings up the fact that Michonne never told her where the walkers came from.

Good news everyone.  Houston native, Wes Anderson’s new film ‘Moonrise Kongdom’ will open the 65th Cannes Film Festival in France.  It’s still uncertain if the film will play in or out of the competition.  I’m betting it will be in the competition.  Cannes this year starts May 16th, and ‘Moonrise Kingdom’ not only will open Cannes but will open in French Theatres that same day.

Hi Bryan Here….

There is a new trailer on the run for the (I guess) prequel of the ‘Planet of the Apes’ series called ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes‘.  You can see the first teaser trailer by click HERE.  This new trailer looks amazing.  This situation would be so frightening.  We have not had a good ape/monkey movie in a while.  I wonder if this does really well, if they will do another Kong film or remake ‘Mighty Joe Young’ or ‘Congo’.  Who knows.  But this movie is shaping up nicely.  Can’t wait.

Hi Bryan Here…

So I am sure you have all seen the hit documentary “King of Kong” about achieving the high score of Donkey Kong and the battle of good vs. evil.  I am course speaking about Billy Mitchell and Steve Wiebe.  To quote my earlier article about this matter, …..”since the documentary where Wiebe beat Mitchell(the champ for highest donkey kong score) , and then Mitchell beating Wiebe for the title back, the newcomer, Hank Chien (a plastic surgeon) defeated Mitchell for the title only to have Mitchell take the title back from Chien.  But then Wiebe stole the title from Chien this past September only to be knocked back down to 2nd place by Chien this past January.  WHHHHEEEEWWWW!!!  This new documentary is about Hank Chien.”  DOCTOR KONG: CUTTING UP THE COMPETITION!!!

Hi Bryan Here…

One of my favorite and I think one of the best documentaries ever made was “King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters”.  It followed two men on their journey to attain the highest score of Donkey Kong.  Knowing that, it really is a story of GOOD VS. EVIL.  But since the documentary where Wiebe beat Mitchell(the champ for highest donkey kong score) , and then Mitchell beating Wiebe for the title back, the newcomer, Hank Chien (a plastic surgeon) defeated Mitchell for the title only to have Mitchell take the title back from Chien.  Bu then Wiebe stole the title from Chien this past September only to be knocked back down to 2nd place by Chien this past January.  WHHHHEEEEWWWW!!!  This new documentary is about Hank Chien.

Steve Wiebe, the school teacher gamer, most popular from the EXCELLENT documentary “King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters” has reclaimed the throne as the #! high score on Donkey Kong.

The official gaming scorekeeping organization known as “Twin Galaxies” just posted Wiebe’s score of  1,064,500 which has knocked asshole Billy Mitchell to the #2 spot.  Wiebe was last #1 in 2007 when he was beaten by Billy Mitchell.

Wiebe said this in an interview:

“Hank Chien is a great person and DK player, so I also feel that he’s capable of taking the title at anytime,” said Wiebe. “I think when I came up short of the record at several live events, many people thought that I just didn’t have it in me anymore. Getting the record back definitely feels good.”

“Being a school teacher, I had been going after the record all summer, which is about a two month period of being off from school,” stated Wiebe. “Basically, I played a game a day and believed it would happen sooner or later. Right around the Fourth of July, I got an inner ear viral infection that caused some vertigo, which is still affecting me a little today. I’m glad I was able to play through it. The day I got the record was essentially the last day of my summer break before returning to school, so it was down to the wire. I remember restarting over about five or six times and then getting a great start that finally led to the record.”

“Mark Kiehl is an amazing DK Junior player,” Wiebe said. “I was able to talk to him a little bit in Iowa, and he’s a great person as well. He’s certainly pushing the score pretty high, so getting the DK Junior record will take some great play if I’m to get it. I eventually plan to get back to playing Junior, but I’m not sure when that will be yet.”

“I’m not surprised at all that the DK title has frequently changed hands of late,” Wiebe continued. “I knew Billy would resurface and I’ve never let go of trying to recapture the record myself. There are a lot more DK kill screen players out there now, so the competition is getting pretty tough. I fully expect the title to keep changing hands until someone knocks it out of the park.”

“I definitley see Billy coming back and I would be very surprised if he didn’t. I don’t know where or when Billy will return, but I’m counting on it.”

Much Much congratulations to Steve Wiebe and his family.

If you have not seen the documentary, “King of Kong” about Wiebe achieving the world record for highest Donkey Kong score.  This is not only a documentary on achieving high scores, but a documentary on good vs. evil.  SERIOUSLY.

It is one of the best documentaries I have ever seen.  Click below to purchase it.

Even the bad ones. These movies have touched us in some way and have helped shaped our creative lives. Maybe this list will inspire you to make your own list and share it with us. These are the movies we are thankful for and dearly love.

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

Grab your wands, spell books, wizards and witches, because the world of ‘Harry Potter‘ is back for the long haul with J.K. Rowlings‘ book ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to find Them‘. This film is the first in a set of five upcoming movies and begins with a good amount of character introductions, but not necessarily origin stories. Instead of taking place in a somewhat modern day London or even that of the magical place of Hogwarts, ‘Fantastic Beasts‘ takes place in the 1930s in New York, which is around the same time that King Kong would have been climbing buildings. So before Harry Potter himself was even born, this whole fantastic tale took place, which follows a young man named Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) who travels from England to the USA to release a beast of a bird in Arizona to be free. Scamander is a bumbling and clumsy young man, so it’s easy to see how and why he would lose his literal briefcase full of beasts out on New York, which is the main stage and story for the film.

4K UHD Review: ‘The Great Gatsby’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 25th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

71agcknlail-_sl1127_

THE FILM

Director Baz Luhrmann has created a grand opus filled with shiny costumes, modern music, magical camera tricks, and classic style of early Hollywood film-making to bring to life once again F. Scott Fitzgerald’s beloved and iconic novel ‘The Great Gatsby‘. The film is over-the-top, lavish, and a bit flawed. But that is how the title character is after all. The feel and tone of the film is entrancing, as the visuals take is to the early 20s in New York, where we become infatuated with Gatsby and his American dream.

Hey guys, Jana here,

tom_hiddleston_37029

Legendary announced their plans to make a feature film based on the cinematic origins of King Kong during this year’s San Diego Comic Con. There have been King Kong stories that go so far back Faye Wray wouldn’t even be able to remember them all. It’s a story we’re all familiar with, but that doesn’t mean we will know what to expect from this film, especially when it’s based on the origins of the legendary, giant ape. Origin stories are really big right now and this one explores a topic we really haven’t been over inundated with. This has me looking forward to the film knowing nothing more than this info, right now.

Hi, Bryan Here….

“We were up at “the top of the world” and we saw this shooting star and we decided to go look for it. But instead of finding the shooting star we saw this… this circus tent.”

EXCLUSIVE: The first time I watched ‘Killer Klowns From Outer Space’, I was about nine years old and it was on HBO.  I watched it with my dad, and I remember how much we laughed and how frightened we were at certain moments.  Especially me.  I remember thinking how cool and scary those killer klowns were, and how much I wanted to go into that circus tent and shoot the popcorn guns.  It was one of the defining moments in my life where I know I wanted to be involved with film, especially horror.  I loved how there was very little CG, rather it was all real FX, costumes, and makeup.  After my first viewing, I looked in the paper to see if it was running anytime again during the week (back then, we had to read the paper to see what was airing on the one channel of HBO).

Bryan Reviews ‘Dead Alive’!!! (A Blu-Ray Review)

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 11th, 2011

Hi Bryan Here….

“I KICK ASS FOR THE LORD”!!!  Ahhhhh, finally Peter Jackson’s gore fest is finally on bluray.  This is labeled the goriest film ever made and I must say this is a true statement.  This was Peter Jackson’s answer to Raimi’s Evil DEAD 2.  Jackson perfectly blended horror and comedy and gore all into one brilliant film.  This release is a must own for the sole fact that this is the best the film ever has looked and sounded.  Sadly, there isn’t any extras on the disc sans a theatrical trailer.  Hopefully further down the road there will be an anniversary edition of some sorts with tons of awesome extras.  Would love to see a behind the scenes festurette on this release.

Howdy again true believers.  FedMex Here….

First and foremost, my sincerest apologies for taking so long to finally watch this film.  A very selfish college buddy of mine decided that he would get married the same weekend that Rise of the Planet of the Apes was released.  I was unfortunately on a plane while this film was gracing screens across the country, and as an enthusiast who actually owns the five original Planet of the Ape movies on VHS, I refuse to forgive my friend for acting like a proverbial monkey throwing his own feces and deciding that a future with a woman he loves was more important than Andy Serkis reprising his role as a digitized ape.

Ben K. Here….

I can’t say I was ever a big fan of the Planet of the Apes series, and I certainly wouldn’t claim to have enjoyed Tim Burton’s misguided 2001 remake of the 1968 original. Having said that, I think there were some interesting ideas and the occasional burst of exciting storytelling in the five year (1968-1973) franchise. The first, starring Charlton Heston and directed by Franklin J. Schaffner (of Patton fame), was definitely the crown jewel. The best compliment I can pay Rupert Wyatt’s 2011 series reboot, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, is that I think the crown jewel is still to come.

‘CAPTAIN AMERICA’ REVIEW

Don’t get me wrong, the movie was good.  We have the origin story of Steve Rogers, the kind hearted wimpy kid that would do anything to fight for his country.  Rogers is an idealistic, wholesome idea of the values of America, truth, justice, and the American way…wait, that was reserved for another comic franchise.

John Landis Returns To Direct Burke & Hare

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 5th, 2010

I have always been a fan of John Landis. He has quite an impressive resume. He has directed such films as: “Animal House”, “Coming To America”, “An American Werewolf in London”, “Michael Jackson’s Thriller”, “Three Amigos”, and “Trading Places” to just name a few.

He is returning to direct a film called “Burke & Hare” which is based on the real life exploits of Irish murderers William Burke and William Hare who killed about 17 people in Edinburgh in the span of 1 year in the 1800’s.

The film’s main stars will be played by Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead) and Andy Serkis (known for playing King Kong and Gollum) as both Williams. They also have one hell of a supporting cast which is: Tim Curry, Isla Fisher, Jessica Hynes, and Tom Wilkinson.

BLURAY/DVD Releases For the Last Week of September 2010

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 27th, 2010

Tons of releases this week including my favorite film of all time.  It seems that a few weeks go by with some “ok” releases then one week later oodles of BADASS releases come out, burning a giant hole in my wallet.  Well this is one of those weeks.  Like before, click on the link/picture to be whisked away to AMAZON where you can purchase the movie for a big discount.  Enjoy this week’s releases.

This was a hard film to catch in theaters because it was a very limited theatrical run. Remember that film a few years ago, “Open Water” about that couple that went snorkeling in the ocean and their tour boat left them in the middle of the ocean accidentally? Well, “Frozen” is a little bit like that. A few college kids go skiing for a weekend and take the chair lift up one last time right when the park closes. Midway up the ski lift and about 100 feet up in the air, the chair lift stops and the park closes for the entire week and does not open again until the weekend. Five days without food or water in freezing conditions. What would you do? Check this film out!

Special Features include:

Audio commentary with Writer/director Adam Green and actors Shawn Ashmore, Kevin Zegers and Emma Bell
Catching Frostbite: The Origins of Frozen
Three Below Zero
Shooting Through It
Beating the Mountain: Surviving Frozen
Deleted scenes

*Exclusive to Bluray* – Audio commentary with Adam Green, cinematographer Will Barratt and editor Ed Marx

A spin-off of 2008’s hugely successful Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Get Him to the Greek reunites Jonah Hill (Superbad), playing a low-ranking record-label employee, and Russell Brand (Despicable Me), the ultimate larger-than-life rock-star Aldous Snow. Also starring are Sean Combs (aka P. Diddy) in a devastatingly funny comic turn, Rose Byrne (“Damages”) and Elisabeth Moss (“Mad Men”), plus cameos from music and media stars including Pink, Christina Aguilera, Lars Ulrich, Pharrel, Meredith Viera, Billy Bush, Mario Lopez, Kurt F. Loder and Paul Krugman. This is as raunchy as “The Hangover” and as funny as Superbad.

Special Features include:

Gag Reel
Getting in Tune with the Greek
The Making Of “African Child”
Five complete music videos featuring Aldous Snow, Infant Sorrow, and Jackie Q
Musical Performances

I really loved Iron Man 2. It was such a blast in the theater to see. The action was non-stop and the characters were even more developed which made me care amore about them. This is something that has been lacking in the comic book film adaptations. Seeing Iron Man and War Machine team up and kill bad guys was out of this world. Mickey Rourke did a phenomenal job as the villain “Whiplash”. This movie had it all for me, even the cool cameos of Thor, Hulk, Black Panther, and the awesome Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. I am looking forward to a 3rd film as well as the Avengers movie in a couple of years.

Special Features include:

Finally. My favorite movie of all time. The 1933 version of King Kong. Actually I have two favorite movies. King Kong and Army of Darkness, but Army of Darkness has already been released in HD, but King Kong (1933) has not, until this week. What an epic movie this is. I love everything about this film. It is not so much an action adventure story but a love story. Pure and simple. “It was beauty killed the beast.” From that first moment that Kong sees Fay, he falls in love, but deep down he knows he will be doomed, for he cannot have anything so beautiful in life. But he protects her from everything and will stop at nothing to be with her, even if it means his own demise. This movie is a must own. i am so excited that this is finally out on BLURAY.

Special Features include:

Commentary by creature creator Ray Harryhausen and visual effects artist Ken Ralston, with archival sound bites from Merian C. Cooper and Fay Wray
I’m Kong: The Exploits of Merian C. Cooper (2005 TCM documentary)
The Making of Kong, Eighth Wonder of the World (7-part documentary)
Trailers

I will see anything with David Bowie. Anything. Especially a David Bowie War Film. Now this is a criterion release which means it is the best release you can get. “In this captivating, exhilaratingly skewed World War II drama from Nagisa Oshima, David Bowie regally embodies the character Celliers, a high-ranking British officer interned by the Japanese as a POW. Music star Ryuichi Sakamoto (who also composed this film’s hypnotic score) plays the camp commander, who becomes obsessed with the mysterious blond major, while Tom Conti is British lieutenant colonel Mr. Lawrence, who tries to bridge the emotional and language divides between his captors and fellow prisoners. Also featuring actor-director Takeshi Kitano in his first dramatic role, Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence is a multilayered, brutal, at times erotic tale of culture clash that was one of Oshima’s greatest successes.”

Special Features include:

•The Oshima Gang, an original making-of featurette
New video interviews with producer Jeremy Thomas, screenwriter Paul Mayersberg, actor Tom Conti, and actor-composer Ryuichi Sakamoto
Hasten Slowly, an hour-long documentary about author and adventurer Laurens van der Post, whose autobiographical novel is the basis for the film
Original theatrical trailer
A booklet featuring an essay by film writer Chuck Stephens and a 1983 interview with director Nagisa Oshima by Japanese film writer Tadao Sato

Rock & Rule stars Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, Cheap Trick and more in this animated classic rock movie. The movie is about Angel, a member of a punk rock band in the apocalyptic future, is kidnapped by Mok, a legendary super rocker. Obsessed with an evil experiment, Mok plans to use Angel’s voice to summon a demon from another dimension. The rest of the band follows Mok to Nuke York in an attempt to rescue her and then the ultimate battle of good vs. evil begins. Why would you say no to this movie? This will be watched with beer and friends at midnight.

Wow. Two releases in the same week with Iggy Pop. Add to that cast, Alice Cooper, Henry Rollins, and Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange) and vampires, and you got yourself “SUCK”. It is about a band’s bass player that becomes a vampire, down and out rock band, The Winners are launched into spotlight. Stalked by creepy producers, wild groupies and the legendary vampire hunter Eddie Van Helsing, The Winners soon find fame to be a fate worse than death. Doesn’t that sound AWESOME?

Special Features include:

Audio commentary
Making-of featurette
Music Video
Cast-and-crew interviews
Deleted scenes

Another one of those PG-13 animated superhero films. Ed Asner lends his voice talent to the cast which is always a plus. “After a spaceship splashes down in Gotham City Harbor, Batman and Superman encounter a mysterious Kryptonian with powers as great as those of the Man of Steel. The Kryptonian is soon revealed to be Kara, cousin of Superman, who takes her under his wing to educate her about the ways of Earth. However, the villainous Darkseid has other plans. Seeing an opportunity to finally defeat Superman, Darkseid abducts and gains control of Kara, utilizing the powerful Kryptonian to do his bidding. It’s up to Batman and Superman to save Kara, but they’ll have to take the fight to Darkseid within his hostile world – where unknown, deadly threats lurk around every corner, including a brainwashed Kryptonian able to match Superman blow-for-blow.”

The ‘GeoStorm’ Trailer is Here!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 8th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

Screen Shot 2017-03-08 at 1.53.42 PM

.In what looks to be the absolute WORST film of the last five years, ‘GEOSTORM‘ finally has a trailer. What is ‘GeoStorm‘ exactly? First off, let me just say that this film was supposed to come out a couple of years ago, but keeps getting pushed back – for obvious reasons. Mainly because, it looks like a giant SHIT-STORM of Epic proportions. This film is directed by Dean Devlin who really hasn’t done a directing gig, but rather produced the ‘Independence Day‘ films. So take that information and replace alien invasions with giant tornados, tsunamis, and snowballs the size of Mt. Rushmore hurling into skyscrapers.

Jackie Chan’s Next Film Will Be ‘Skiptrace’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 6th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

rush1

This sounds a little bit too familiar. Jackie Chan is set to star with Fan Bingbing in ‘Skiptrace‘, which will be directed by Sam Fell. Chan has been out of the comedy/action spotlight for a little while now and some might welcome his return into the genre. This project is based off an idea of Chan, which is funny, because it sounds exactly like three of his previous films.

Blu-Ray Review: ‘Wreck It Ralph’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 5th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

71ftUaLkCGL._AA1015_

Wreck-It Ralph‘ is one hell of a fun and entertaining movie. Not only will the little kids enjoy this, but adults will eat this up too.  Disney has done a a great job with their 3D animated comedy to start the holiday season.  The amazing voice cast, the video game references, the characters and storyline can all compete with the likes of any Pixar film.  Well, I guess you can get a phenomenal film when you have John Lasseter executive produce and Rich Moore direct.  Moore has directed tons of episodes of ‘The Simpsons’ and just about every episode of ‘Futurama’, so you know this will be a funny and intelligent film done right.

‘Infernal Affairs’ is amazing.  This was the original ‘Departed’ film that Scorsese made.  ‘Infernal Affairs’ was made in 2002 with ‘The Departed’  being made in 2006.  Scorsese must have seen this movie when it came out and quickly wanted to make an American version.  And that’s exactly what he did.  ‘Infernal Affairs’ is exactly what ‘The Departed is, but made in Hong Kong.  It has a lot of the same scenes, characters, and plot lines.  And this bluray release is quite good.  If you are a fan of ‘The Departed’, then ‘Infernal Affairs’ is a film you will love.

Top 133 Films of the Last Decade #’s 84-69

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 20th, 2010

Hey, Bryan here, with the next part of the list of the Top 133 Films of the past decade.  Sorry it has been delayed here recently.  With all the news, movie premieres, being out of town, running the comic book biz, and writing new scripts, I have simply not had the time to get more films added to this list.  So hopefully from now on, I will be able to get this list knocked out every day or two.  Thank you for your patience.  This is list #’s 84 – 69.  Enjoy it.  As usual, you will get the title of the film and the year of release, plus a mini review/memory of the film plus the link to purchase the film which gives a small donation to this site so we can continue bringing you more AWESOME news and prizes.

84_ Irreversible – January, 2003

Oh Gaspar Noe.  How you have imprinted my brain with your films forever.  Especially with this one.  This is a frightening film on all levels.  Not in the monster way, but in the sick sadistic way we are as human beings.  This film is made backwards with no cuts so as to give the viewer no escape of the darkness in this film.  So the film starts out with  a gruesome murder and you find out why this happened.  It is amazing.  Tons of people walked out on this film when it premiered at Cannes.

83_ Wonder Boys – February 23, 2000

A true writer’s film.  A great film about a college professor who struggles with writing his book, drinking, drugs, killing the dean’s dog, and having an affair with his wife and stealing Marilyn Monroe’s coat.  It is a solid film with Robert Downey Jr., Tobe Maguire, and Michael Douglas.

82_ Dog Soldiers – May 10, 2002

A kick ass Werewolf movie from the director of The Descent and Doomsday.  A military unit is sent on some mission and the all end up dead.  2nd Special ops unit is sent out to find out what happened and they come across werewolves.  Tons of great gore scenes and action sequences with some great comedic dialogue along the way.  One of the great werewolf flicks.

81_ Saw – October 29, 2004

The first film that led the way for all these torture films we have seen recently.  This film is on the list because this film is what it is all about making movies.  Take friends who created this world and made this very tiny budget film shot over two weeks.  An original story, plot, and great dialogue formed this film.  It was unleashed upon the world and has spawned six more films and revived careers as well as created new ones.  It is always great to see new and inventive films.  And we got a new monster movie.  Jigsaw.  If you keep making them, I’ll keep seeing them.

80_ Watchmen – March 4, 2009

A magnificent comic book.  One of the first comics that was a complete adult theme that dealt with rape, murder, and genocide.  It was going to be very difficult to adapt this comic into a film.  But they did it very well.  I loved almost every aspect of this film.  They got it mostly right.  The filming is beautiful, the acting by Jackie Earle Haley is  top notch, and the fight sequences are amazing.  See it if you haven’t already.  Another great one by director Zack Snyder.

79_ Eastern Promises – September 14, 2007

A follow up to History of Violence with same director Cronenberg and actor Viggo Mortensen.  A Russian teenager living in London who dies during childbirth leaves clues to a midwife in her journal that could tie her child to a rape involving a violent Russian mob family.   What a great film.  Extremely violent and what a knife fight scene in a shower.  WOW.

78_ Hero – August 27, 2004

I saw this film a couple years before it was released in the USA.  This is one of the most beautiful films you will ever see.  Picture Lord of the Rings epic, but with a Japanese dynasty war twist.  A series of Rashomon-like flashback accounts shape the story of how one man defeated three assassins who sought to murder the most powerful warlord in pre-unified China.  You haven’t seen anything like it.

77_ One Hour Photo – August 21, 2002

Wow.  Does Robin Williams do an exceptional job at creeping me the fuck out?  YES YES YES.  This film is ungodly awkward and tense.  Robin Williams plays a photo clerk at a supermarket who develops all the customers photos.  Only problem is he has an unhealthy obsession with his customers by stalking them, breaking into their homes, and posting their pictures all over his apartment walls.  CREEPY.  Stellar performance.

76_ A Mighty Wind – April 16, 2003

Another gold gem from Christopher Guest.  This mockumentary is about folk music bands reunited for a one night celebration and the lives they have been living and the anticipation and set up before the big event.  The music is just phenomenal and the comedy is top notch.  Love this film.  I had the distinct pleasure of seeing one of the bands live in concert.  BRAVO.

75_ Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban – June 4, 2004

The third film in the Harry Potter series is my favorite still.  It is the most beautiful of all of them so far and it is directed by Alfonso Cuaron of Children of Men and Y Tu Mama Tambien fame.  I love this story in particular because it deals with time travel and the relationships of the kids growing up.  Coming of age sort of thing.  I love all these films and this one is at the top of the list.

74_ Spider-Man 2 – June 30, 2004

The amazing sequel that was just as good or better than the first film.  Loved it.  Doc Ock is awesome.  I love the references to Evil Dead and Army of Darkness in this film.

73_ Ocean’s 11 – December 7, 2001

The remake from the rat pack days with an outstanding cast.  This film is so much fun and spawned two sequels.  What works most with these films is the interaction and chemistry between the whole gang.  They are like a big family.  It makes you feel good.  The twists and comedic dialogue are amazing.  I wish for more, but sadly no more.  RIP Bernie Mac.

72_ The Descent – August 4, 2006

A scary film from Doomsday and Dog Soldiers director.  This film seriously freaked me out.  It is a spelunking film.  So take an extreme claustrophobic atmosphere and add monsters to the equation.  I did most certainly sweat during seeing this film.  No men in this film really.  Tons of chicks kicking ass.  Tons of gore and scares.  See it.

71_ Casino Royale – November 17, 2006

The revamp of the James Bond series is GLORIOUS.  The last several have been silly, boring, and unentertaining.  Finally someone came into the series and made badass again.  Daniel Craig brings a new life to James Bond.  I was glas to see him starting out as not a 00 agent and working his way up in the ranks.  It was also good to see Bond get his ass kicked and not be afraid to get dirty and violent.  I am looking forward to more James Bond films.

70_ King Of Kong – August 17, 2007

One of the greatest documentaries ever.  And it is about getting the high score in Donkey Kong.  Yes the arcade game.  But this is again is a classic Good Vs. Evil story but in real life.  Steve Weibe is going for the gold in beating the reigning champs high score.  The reigning champ (Billy Mitchell) will not let him achieve his gold easily.  Tons of shit goes on that is considered fraud and evil and betraying in this film.  It is crazy as well as hilarious.  GO STEVE WEIBE.

69_ Paranormal Activity – September 25, 2009

I really liked this film.  Made on a $15,000.00 budget and has made millions and millions of dollars so far as well as a sequel soon, this film shows us that you do not need any special effects or gadgetry to be scary or great.  Every time the couple is asleep and the famous shot of the entire bedroom and hallway comes on, I tense up and hope nothing happens, but always something does whether it be footsteps, doors opening or closing, sounds, or banging.  This is a scary ghost/demon story.  It definitely made me think twice about walking down the dark hall at night.
