A Deeper look into the ‘The Holiday’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 21st, 2017

In 2006 a little movie by the name of ‘The Holiday’ was released unto the world from the place where all darkness flows. It now signifies the start of “Holiday Movie Season” for countless women across the globe. I believe it is solely responsible for the Hallmark Channel’s holiday film slate every November-December. However, the imitators don’t even come close to the unique mess this film is. I actually don’t think I’ve seen the movie in one full sitting the past 5 years but it has been in such a rotation in my home that I’ve caught it in enough chunks to have seen it at least 10-12 full times since it came out in 2006. I really want to break down the absurdity of this movie to get everyone in the holiday spirit.

Film Review: ‘The Mountain Between Us’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 29th, 2017

Rebecca S., here….

In modern terms, a unicorn is a sought after item of idea that you can never have; a fabled creature and impossible to capture. The perfect date night movie is the unicorn of our times. Speaking in stereotypes, men are said to want comedy, death defying action-adventure, and it would be great if someone got shot or maimed. Women are said to want lighthearted flirting, sincere laughter and a beautiful backdrop in which a woman is swept off of her feet by a gorgeous man. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you The Mountain Between Us. The answer to your date night woes. A unicorn.

Hey guys, Jana here,

leonardo-dicaprio-inline-zoom-e780bd67-8bfe-4cb1-a724-88c8403b9bba

I am a Leonardo DiCaprio fan. I’ve never hidden it, but I am. I wasn’t in love with him and his boyish good looks like other girls my age were, I recognized him from ‘Growing Pains‘, after all. He didn’t begin his career as absolutely gorgeous, that developed over time. I had to learn to love his work for what it was. Saying that, Leo’s been overlooked for that naked, golden, guy many times before he finally won his first Oscar at last night’s award show.

Film Review: ‘Triple 9’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 26th, 2016

Beka P., Here…

maxresdefault

Hold onto your seats! Triple 9 is a non-stop action-packed film that definitely delivers. Within the first ten minutes you are sucked into a high intensity bank heist that rolls right into one of the best get away scenes I’ve seen in a long time. It’s so intense that you aren’t really sure where the rest of the movie is going to go, but have no fear, there’s plenty of nail biting left to do.

And the 2016 Golden Globe Nominees Are….

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 10th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

53fe9c57-1190-4d61-b197-fcda11fc89af

The awards show is January 10 on NBC hosted by Ricky Gervais. First off, let’s look at something AWESOME here. ‘MAD MAX: FURY ROAD‘ is nominated for BEST PICTURE. It needs to win. It should win. And if does win, we all go streaking. That being said…I can’t believe that ‘Me and Earl and the Dying Girl‘ was not nominated for anything. Come on. It’s one of the BEST films of the year. It’s also interesting to see no love for the final season of ‘Mad Men’ her either. Oh well.

Here is the list of nominees:

Film Review: ‘Steve Jobs’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 16th, 2015

Janet W., Here…

steve-jobs-movie-2015-holding

Steve Jobs opens on a black and white video of a young boy listening with profound focus to a computer technician’s progressive response to the world’s potential journey towards a computer-dependent society.  Young Steve Jobs clearly had a desire for technological innovation in his blood even then.  Through his wide-eyed look, the turning of his mental wheels was easily discerned.  Even then, you could tell that Jobs had his mind set on a path to making the right computers a part of everyone’s everyday life.  Fast forward to the launch of the first Mac where an all-grown up Jobs (Michael Fassbender) is in a state of controlled panic (or was it frustration?).

Film Review: ‘Insurgent’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 19th, 2015

Taylor E., Here…

640_insurgent_trailer_20141212

Insurgent, the sequel to the popular young adult trilogy-turned-film-series, takes place immediately following the events of Divergent. Tris (Shailene Woodley) and Four (Theo James), are on the run from Jeanine (Kate Winslet), who is hunting the Divergents. This action/adventure/science fiction-thriller failed to perform, but was at least pretty to watch. Insurgent would be far more enjoyable if viewed on “mute”.

Enjoy the ‘Insurgent’ Trailer!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Dec 12th, 2014

Hey guys, Jana here,

I loved, loved, loved ‘Divergent‘, so I’ve been excited for the sequel. For Beatrice Prior, she stopped fearing that she’s divergent and has fully embraced it. Sometimes those differences take a toll on a person in an emotional sense, especially when we see the effects our own decisions bring about. Tris is battling those inner demons while fighting against a system that continues to try and tear her society apart.

The ‘Twilight’ Saga Continues on Facebook?!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Oct 1st, 2014

Hey guys, Jana here,

51q43VqS6UL

Facebook is reviving characters that have been dead a long time. Prepare yourselves for the global sound of Twihards the world over to squeal with delight. Facebook is getting into the film game with ‘Twilight‘ short films. You read that right. Stephenie Meyer wrote what has become the ‘Twilight Saga‘. Beginning in 2005, Meyer released the first novel in a series that would grip fans of all ages and create characters that would be immortalized in film. While some of us were letting our broomsticks cool down from a wild ride with a boy wizard, cold vampires and hot werewolves were heating up readers pages again. The saga ran the length of four novels and one short story as a spinoff.

Finding Neverland‘ was a film released in 2004. Starring Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet, the movie details the experiences of “Peter Pan” author J.M. Barrie, which lead him to write the children’s classic. He got to know four children who have no father. Drawing from his time with the kids, he writes a story about children who don’t want to grow up. In a little bit of a backwards twist, Broadway took an idea from Hollywood to adapt into a musical.

Woody Harrelson has always had an in-demand acting career, but it seems that he was never so popular as he is now. Everywhere you look, things are turning up Woody. Harrelson joins the cast of ‘Triple Nine‘, a heist-thriller directed by John Hillcoat. Hillcoat brought us some massive hits like ‘The Road‘ and 2012’s massive hit ‘Lawless‘.

Film Review: ‘Divergent’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 20th, 2014

Hi, Bryan Here…

DIVERGENT

Ok, I’ll admit it. My name is Bryan Kluger, and I’m a Young Adult Movie virgin. I’ve never seen a ‘Twilight‘ movie nor have I seen either of ‘The Hunger Games‘ yet. And to be perfectly honest, I have not yet read any of these books that the movies were based on. Part of it is that I never got around to it while another part was that these stories didn’t really interest me. With ‘Twilight‘, my personal preference is to have my monsters whether they be vampires or werewolves, go on a nightly bender, wreaking havoc and killing for blood, only to have a hero stop their evil thirst and put them in their place. They are not to have vampires who wear glitter and talk about their feelings for three hours. It just doesn’t make sense to me.

Fernando’s Review of ‘Labor Day’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 31st, 2014

Fernando M., Here…

maxresdefault

Jason Reitman, well known for modern classics such as “Juno” and “Up in the Air” takes a drastic turn with his newest film, “Labor Day.”  Though Reitman usually hits us with his own special blend of comedy and misery that is somehow equally lighthearted and cynical, you can expect none of that here.

Hi, Bryan Here…

labor-day-movie-photo-9

I had the great opportunity to talk with writer Joyce Maynard and actor Gattlin Griffith on their film ‘Labor Day‘, which stars Josh Brolin, Kate Winslet, and Griffith. The film was directed by Jason Reitman and I found myself entranced by the film as you can read my review HERE. We discuss the origins of the story, some of the fun things that happen on set, as well as some of Griffith’s favorite movies. He even said he wanted to star in a remake of one of the best 80’s movies to ever come out. Enjoy the short interview and be sure to see ‘Labor Day‘.

Film Review: ‘Labor Day’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 30th, 2014

Hi, Bryan Here…

labor-day-review-1

In a shift in tone and subject matter for director Jason Reitman (‘Juno‘, ‘Up In The Air‘), his newest film ‘Labor Day‘ is a sweet tale of love and starting over. Originally written by Joyce Maynard with a screenplay treatment by Reitman himself, this gem of a film is a slice of great pie. Sure, this situation would never play out as it did in the film, but is one that we would hope for. With a stellar cast that includes Kate Winslet, Josh Brolin, Tobey Maguire, J.K. Simmons, Gattlin Griffith, and James Van Der Beek, ‘Labor Day‘ is a holiday I’d revisit again and feel good about it.

I just love the films Jason Reitman has directed. He did ‘Juno‘, ‘Up in the Air‘, ‘Thank You For Smoking‘, and ‘Young Adult‘. Needless to say, he knows what he’s doing, as his father Ivan Reitman has passed down a great gift to him. His next film ‘Labor Day‘ looks incredible. It stars Josh Brolin and Kate Winslet, and is an adaptation from the Joyce Maynard novel.

Hi, Bryan Here….

I first heard about this film earlier this year when Gerard Butler told me that he was going to play a foul-mouthed leprechaun, and that one of his lines was, “I’m going to crawl up your mother’s cunt and start a fire.”  That instantly put this film at the top of my list.  This film has about a dozen writers and a dozen directors, and looks to be a sort sketch comedy film, but who knows? I can’t tell what this will be about.  But one thing is for sure, it looks fucking hilarious and has an AMAZING cast including, Sean William Scott, Halle Berry, Naomi Watts, Christopher Mintz Plasse (McLovin), Chloe Moretz, Liev Shreiber, Terrence Howard, Gerard Butler, Kate Winslet, Elizabeth Banks, Hugh Jackman, Kristen Bell, Emma Stone, Anna Faris, Richard Gere, Parick Warburton, Justin Long, Uma Thurman, Kate Bosworth, Kieran Culkin, Jack McBrayer, and much much more.
