Hey guys, Jana here,

1401x788-DF-11957_11901_r

The new red band trailer for Seth Rogen’s new film ‘The Night Before‘ is fantastic. Rogen stars with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Anthony Mackie who have been childhood friends. They annually re-convene every Christmas eve for a night of debauchery and decadence, however, since they are older now, this might be the last time they get to party, so they’re going to make this one count.

To Reach The Clouds

Director Robert Zemeckis has a slew of successful movies to his name. Hits like the ‘Back To The Future‘ trilogy, ‘Forrest Gump‘, ‘Cast Away‘, ‘The Polar Express‘ and 2012’s ‘Flight‘. It stands to reason that whatever project he decides to work on will turn out prosperous. Looks like Zemeckis has selected his next project, the story of Philippe Petit, the French high wire artist and “the artistic crime of the century”.

Hi, Bryan Here….

Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller have hired Joseph Gordon-Levitt for their sequel film ‘Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill For‘, which just happens to be my favorite story out of the ‘Sin City‘ series.  Gordon-Levitt will take on the role of Johnny, which is pretty much the lead character that overlaps a few of the stories that will be featured in the film.

Actor, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is setting up a reboot of ‘Litte Shop of Horrors’ for Warner Bros with Levitt starring.  Marc Platt will be producing and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa will be penning the script.  As of right now there is no director.  Platt was a producer on Broadway’s ‘Wicked’, and the films, ‘Wanted’ and Legally Blonde’.  Sacasa wrote the Broadway flop, ”Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark’.

An EW insider who is working closely with this situation says Joseph WILL NOT be playing Alberto Falcone.  So this leaves room for specualtion on which character he will play.  Enigma?? Strange??  Find out the whole story HERE.

The Bishop Charlotte Reporting….

Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception) is almost positive to join the cast of Quentin Tarantino’s new spaghetti Western Django Unchained. He’ll have to work out some scheduling issues, but the man seems pretty determined. If he manages it, he’ll be back alongside Leonardio DiCaprio (as before, I do not need to tell you what else he’s in), Jamie Foxx (Ray), Samuel L. Jackson (oh, please), Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds), Don Johnson (Machete), and Kurt Russell (Escape from New York, back in the day).

4H UHD Review: ‘Inception’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 8th, 2018

THE FILM

Every once in a blue-moon, a movie comes out that feels refreshing, original, and entertains us on a certain level that we won’t soon forget. Of of those movies is ‘Inception‘, directed by Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight). As Nolan was making his Dark Knight (Batman) trilogy, he made a movie in between each sequel. One of them was this film and it truly shines out of all the rest. It brings something everyone does for half their life and makes a thrilling and smart film out of it. ‘Inception‘ involves sleeping and dreaming, but with certain technology, you can be in control of your dreams, and even connect to other people’s dreams and plant an idea in their heads that might make them change their way of thinking. That’s the point of ‘Inception’. It’s quite brilliant.

4K UHD Review: ‘The Dark Knight Rises’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 2nd, 2018

THE FILM

The threats of terrorism, war, chaos, and financial ruin are all too real these days.  ’The Dark Knight Rises’ dives into these issues on a massive scale, which makes any film in the Marvel universe look like mere “child’s play” (no reference to a knife-wielding murderous doll).  Compared with the other Batman movies, everything is bigger in ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ and there is so much more at stake.  Not one second of this film is wasted, the writing and direction is straight to the point, cohesive, and comes across as totally fulfilling in its 164 minute run-time.

If you’re like me, then you have grown to love filmmaker Christopher Nolan over the years. Come December 19th, most of his films will be released on 4K UHD for the first time ever. The films include the ‘Dark Knight Trilogy‘, ‘Inception‘, ‘The Prestige‘, ‘Interstellar‘, and the recent ‘Dunkirk‘. Each film will come with HDR as well, meaning a richer and deeper looking image for each movie. Each film will feature extras, the standard Blu-ray Disc, and Digital Copies of each movie. The whole collection will retail at about $150 with the ‘Dark Knight Trilogy‘ retailing at around $70. Of course with the holidays coming up, expect big discounts everywhere for these.

Best Movies of 2015, According To Jana

by Red Zeppelbon on Dec 30th, 2015

Hey guys, Jana here,

PicMonkey Collage

Another year has come and gone and brought with it about a billion movies, some were total crap and a waste of time, but others…oh they were worth every bit of time I spent. Pre-movie hype, post-movie discussion, and the random hours I spent thinking about it in the shower or sitting at a stop-light. Film Review: ‘The Walk’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 30th, 2015

Janet W., Here…

the-walk-joseph-gordon-levitt

Fade to white and what appears to be Joseph Gordon-Levitt with blue eyes?  You guessed it that cute little boy from 3rd Rock from the Sun and 10 Things I Hate About You.  Recall in 10 Things I Hate About You when Gordon-Levitt’s character, Cameron, was pretending to teach French to his lady love, Bianca.  I guess Joe moved past that mumbling mess he tried to pass off as French.  Blue eyes are not the only addition, the French accent is thick and very Maurice Chevalier.  Don’t get me wrong.  I love the French language and accent.  I admit though that the appearance of Joe with these cosmetic changes at first was a little jarring.  Obviously, he is no longer the little boy I used to watch.  He slipped into the guise of Philippe Petit seemingly effortless to bring us The Walk

Ten Great Lesser-Known Films Starring Big Name Actors!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 7th, 2015

You might find yourself reading the following list, thinking “Hey! I’ve seen all these movies! How dare you claim them to be ‘lesser-known’!” My response to you, should you say such a thing, is “congratulations.” You see, just because you are a film nut like me, doesn’t mean that the rest of the populace is. The following is a list of ten good films with big-named actors that somehow slipped under the general radar. I’m not saying they are completely unknown, but based upon ticket sales, it certainly seems like they slipped the notice of the general public. These are all solid films that, should you enjoy these actors, you definitely want to check them out (the films, not the actors – although to each their own, I guess).

Jana’s Best/Worst of 2014!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Dec 15th, 2014

Hey guys, Jana here,

PicMonkey Collage

It’s been a big year for the entertainment world. Netflix’s initial push to bring movie-theater worthy films straight to streaming customers and bypassing the big screen altogether set off a chain of deals that will take those fresh releases and push them directly into homes allowing us to bypass a $15.00 soda, but denying us the $20.00 popcorn you can only get at the theater. Then came the deluge of series and movies being made for exclusive run with everyone from Netflix, Amazon to Crackle and everything in between. Top that off with the huge breach of privacy Sony experienced. New releases were flooded onto P2P sharing sites and private emails from the film company’s big wigs that show us how the infrastructure of Sony really works, not to mention what those involved really think of some of their superstars.

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

Second verse, same as the first. It’s been almost ten years since Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller brought us the noir-soaked graphic novels known to comic book fans around the world as ‘Sin City‘, which was created by Miller himself. This seedy, ultra violent, and nasty underworld, where crime is rampant and the bad guys end up on top of this booze drenched and drug induced city is the backdrop for some of the most entertaining characters in ever to come out of a graphic novel.

There are a few names in Hollywood that can cherry-pick working conditions. Meryl Streep is among the very top of that list. Film Review: ‘Don Jon’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 27th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

don-jon09

Here is Joseph Gordon Levitt’s debut as a writer/director/actor all in the same film, which is called ‘Don Jon‘. This movie at its core shows a simple man’s transition from an unlikable Guido sex-obsessed douche-bag into somewhat more a friendlier human being who is capable of having meaningful relationships. Levitt’s directorial and writing debut is quite fun and a tad-bit meaningful, but is often quite repetitive as we go along with his character, who himself can’t seem to stop doing several habits. Levitt and his love interest Scarlett Johansson should draw a decent crowd at theaters, considering the adult subject matter, but I see this making more money on home video than in theaters.

Film Review: ‘Lincoln’

Steven Spielberg is one of the most respected directors of our time. Naturally, when it was announced that he would be directing a biographical film of Abraham Lincoln, we were all pretty excited. This excitement was further elevated when we discovered that Daniel Day-Lewis would be cast as Lincoln himself.  To add to all those big names, throw in “you really like me” Sally Field, notoriously cranky Tommy Lee Jones (as Thaddeus  Stevens), and super talented dreamboat Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and I mean, how could this possibly go wrong?

Bryan’s Review of ‘Premium Rush’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 23rd, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

David Koepp’s ‘Premium Rush’ was a fun ride through New York with enough adrenaline to keep the sub par plot moving along.  What makes this film enjoyable is Joseph Gordon-Levitt and its ultra fast pace, as it has a timed clock (think ’24’) graphic that pops up on screen throughout.  Other than those two elements, ‘Premium Rush’ lacks the push to cross the finish line.

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 22nd, 2010

Bryan Here…

Knocking out this list on time and schedule nowadays.  Feels good.  Some great films on this part of the list.  Some that I have not seen in a while that I will have to watch again soon. We’re getting down to the #1 spot pretty quickly.  Enjoy this part of the list #’s 68-54.  As usual, you will get the title of the movie and the date it was released plus a mini review/memory by me.  Also a link to purchase the movie if you are ever so inclined which would donate a small percentage back to this website so we can keep giving you AWESOME material and prizes.

Enjoy

68_ Iron Man – May 2, 2008

Another comic book film.  Iron Man is really really good in pretty much every way.  Robert Downey Jr. is killer in this film as the super-hero and Jeff Bridges is a pretty convincing bad guy.  This film is a lot of fun and full of laughs and action.  Can’t wait for the sequel and Avengers film.  Go Sam Jackson as Nick Fury.

67_ Brick – March 31, 2006

This film is great.  A wonderful homage to the old 30’s noir films.  Set in present time but take the characters and have them talk like they did in the 30’s noir film and a plot and story line likewise.  It is so great.  Tons of twists and turns.  Joseph Gordon Levitt is amazing.  I am proud to have this on the list.  Love this film.

66_ Drag Me To Hell – May 29, 2009

Sam Raimi’s return to the horror genre from his long stint on the Spidey franchise is 100 % AWESOME.  Sadly no Bruce Campbell, but Drag Me To Hell is Evil Dead I & II and Army of Darkness rolled into one film.  Yes it is that great.  This is your standard tale  of a gypsy woman curing a young girl this curse activates a demon to terrorize its victims and DRAG THEM TO HELL.  Good scares and great laughs.  A lot of fun.

65_ Zoolander – September 28, 2001

Ben Stiller is great director and a great character actor.  Tons of quotable lines from this film even today.  A dark comedy in the world of super-models.  I mean in the first five minutes of the film a few super models die in  a gas station fire which they started.  HILARIOUS.  Tons of great cameos and acting all around.  Zoolander will always have a place in my home and heart.   I mean he did found the Zoolander Center For Kids Who Can’t Read Good.

64_ Napoleon Dynamite – June 11, 2004

I saw this film five times before it was initially released wide and I loved every minute of it.  I really cannot tell what time period it is in other than sometime in the vague present, but Napoleon is a kid in high school who is maybe the most awkward kid ever, but he means well.  This is the story of his life in the span of a few weeks.  It is quite hilarious in this dry humor.  This character is one of the cult icons now in history.  The dance number at the end to Canned heat classic.  Love this film.

63_ Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind – March 19, 2004

A gem of a film from Gondry.  This film is fantastic film.  Almost like you are in a dream and nightmare at the same time through out the whole film.  A couple undergo a procedure to erase each other from their memories when their relationship turns sour, but it is only through the process of loss that they discover what they had to begin with.  Truly fantastic.

62_ Ratatouille – June 29, 2007

I really liked this pixar film.  All about the restaurant and food and cooking industry.  So much heart and love is in this film.  It looks beautiful and and the voice acting by Patton Oswalt is wonderful.  Anyone can cook, even a rat.  Love it.

61_ The Departed – October 6, 2006

A really great gangster film from the best gangster director.  That is Marty Scorcesse.  Boston gangs.  All-star cast and tons of twists and references to other mob films.  Leonardo Di Caprio plays an undercover agent in the mob and tries to keep his sanity and wits during the whole time.  What a great film.  Alec Baldwin is hilarious in this film.

60_ Munich – December 23, 2005

A Spielberg film about the true events and revenge of the horrible attack at the Munich Olympic games against the Israel team.  Eric Bana leads the grou to kill one by one the terrorists responsible for the murders.  What an amazing film.  Everything is great about this film except for the last ten minutes which is what to expect from Spielberg films.

59_ Thank You For Smoking – March 17, 2006

I really loved this film.  This about lobbyists in our nation.  Lobbyists for tobacco, guns, and alcohol and how they persuade politicians and important people to keep their industry making large amounts of money.  It is very good and entertaining.  Pretty scary too that this actually goes on.  Great writing and acting all around.

58_ The Hangover – June 5, 2009

Form the director of Old School and Road Trip comes the next film about a crazy Bachelor Party in vegas with strippers, guns, tasers, naked people, Mike Tyson, tigers and much much more.  I believe this film is the highest gross out of any R rated film ever.  It is very funny.  Very funny.  Leslie Chow.

57_ Superbad – August 17, 2007

Oh this great comedy film brought tears of laughter to my face.  Oh so funny.  Jonah Hill and Michael Cera are best friends in their last days of high school who have only really hung out with each other and are invited to  a huge party and are asked to supply the liquor which is the “entire funness” of the party.  This is their journey to accomplish this with their friend McLovin who is a cult icon now too.  This film is great and has most of the Apatow gang in it.  Not only does this film bring the best jokes but it also has a great heart and soul in it as well.  Friendship.

56_ Serenity – September 30, 2005

Man Joss Whedon kicks ass.  His vision of a sci-fi/western world is phenomenal.  This was a television series before a film.  The film is equally awesome as the show was.  I wish more films were like this.  It is entertaining, scary, funny, romantic, and pretty much all the emotions across the board in the span of two hours.  This will entertain you for years to come.  There is a reason all these shirts and posters say Joss Whedon is my Master now.  It is true.

55_ 300 – March 9, 2007

Frank Miller’s brutal Spartan comic became a reality when director Zack Snyder took the helm and adapted it into a movie.  This movies is 99% shot on a green screen with a “crush” technique that gives the film its rustic vintage look.  I was wondering how they were going to turn a 32 page comic book into a whole two hour feature length film, but they did.  And did it well.  I saw a screener of this movie way before its initial release and it was introduced by UFC Champ Chuck Liddell.    Chuck got us all in the mood for a hardcore brutal film about honor and freedom.  The fight scenes were filmed extremely well and has been copied in many other movies after this one.  I am referring to the normal pace to the slow- mo action beats all in one shot.  The use of heavy metal music was an added booster to the balls this movies has.  I really liked this movie.  Very entertaining.

54_ Hot Fuzz – February 14, 2007

The second feature film from BADASS director, Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead), brings us his vision of the ultimate fast paced action thriller in Hot Fuzz.  This film starred the same cast as Shaun of the Dead, and was about the best police officer in London getting re-assigned to a very small quiet village.  The people who live in the village are not what they seem.  This film packs a huge punch of action and gut busting laughs.  The end action sequence lasts about 25 minutes and is balls to the wall AWESOME.  Edgar Wright can do NO wrong.  I saw the U.S. premiere of this film at AFI, and met Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Edgar Wright, and Dolph Lundgren (who introduced the film).  A great film that I will enjoy through the ages and one of the best action films EVER.

Tom Hardy Lands a Lead Role in 3rd Batman Film

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 13th, 2010

Actor Tom Hardy has landed a lead role in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming untitled 3rd Batman film.  You might remember Tom Hardy from “Inception” which he played Eames who was the Forger.

No word yet on which part he will be playing but much speculation is that he will be Edward Nigma (The Riddler), but that is only rumors.  He could be anything really.  So yes, Joseph Gordon Levitt might still be considered to play The Riddler.

Make your guesses below.
