Hey guys, Jana here,

Fast and Furious 6

J.J. Abrams is no longer controlling the bridge of the USS Enterprise and is handing off command of ‘Star Trek 3‘ to Justin Lin, director of 4 films in the Fast and Furious franchise. Abrams had to step down  from directing the tertiary project due to his commitment  as director for ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens‘.

Hello, Jana here,

poster-lightsaber

Nerds everywhere, prepare to be absolutely outraged!! Nerd 101 teaches us that ‘Star Wars‘ and ‘Star Trek‘ are two entirely separate factions that should never, never EVER be combined. The two are like ‘Ghostbusters‘ proton streams. What can we never do with proton streams? That’s right….cross them.  What we all feared has actually made it’s way into the script. JJ Abrams, with Disney, has announced today, there will be a small cameo in the upcoming ‘Star Wars Episode VII‘ that will feature Spock. I can’t believe the lunacy of this one either.  I’m really stunned. I even checked this for an April Fools Day joke and it seems it’s 100% legit.

Is this a dream? I’m dreaming, right? Quentin Tarantino is about to beam up to the ‘Star Trek‘ franchise and that’s not joke. Tarantino, who is a big fan of all films, came up with a ‘Star Trek‘ storyline for a new film and talked with JJ Abrams about it. Abrams liked it so much, because why wouldn’t he, and the two have started to assemble a writer’s room who will knock out a big script based on Tarantino’s idea.

J.J. Abrams Will Direct Star Trek 2!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 27th, 2011

Hi Bryan Here….

So J.J. is back from vacation and is done with all things ‘Super 8’ for the time being, that he has put his focus on ‘Star Trek 2’.  He is currently co-writing with Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman, and Damon Lindelof on the sequel to Star Trek.  He is hoping for a production start in January.  And Chris Pine is definitely reprising his role as Captain Kirk.  So far, a script and story has not been approved, but the studio is ready when the script and Abrams is.  I’m sure everyone will be returning.  I wonder if we will get a Shatner cameo this time around.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 25th, 2018

THE FILM

There is always hope for a new ‘Star Wars‘ movie. Two years ago with ‘The Force Awakens‘, Disneyand JJ Abrams reinvigorated the franchise into becoming the #1 movie of all time. Not only was it financially successful, but it brought a new love to the film series, since the prequels almost destroyed all that ‘Star Wars‘ had built up since 1977. It was a new day in the ‘Star Wars‘ universe with new characters crossing paths with our favorite original characters, which made our collective nerdy hearts soar with happiness and nostalgia.

Film Review: ‘The Cloverfield Paradox’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 5th, 2018

Going into ‘The Cloverfield Paradox‘, which should be renamed to ‘The Cloverfield Potato‘, I was a huge fan of this movie universe and its mythology. With 2008’s ‘Cloverfield‘, I loved the use of handheld cameras and the found footage aspect to tell this crazy story of a giant creature wreaking havoc on everyone and everything in New York, despite the annoying characters. Some years later, we got a film set in the same universe with ‘10 Cloverfield Lane‘, which had us holed up with John Goodman and couple other great characters where something terrible was happening outside their underground bunker, just as something equally awful was happening underground. JJ Abrams had announced a third film some years ago that would take place in this ‘Cloverfield‘ universe, but went thru many delays and a ton of titles, including ‘The God Particle‘.

Dan Moran’s Top 12 Movies of 2017 Plus Extras!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 4th, 2018

I saw 75 movies this year and I still have 3-4 left to finish up over the next few weeks. I haven’t seen The Post, Call Me By Your Name, or Phantom Thread yet. Phantom Thread is the only regret I have but it doesn’t come out until mid-January and I like to finish my list before first week of January ends. A few special awards before my top 12.

4K UHD Review: Westworld Season 1!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 11th, 2017

THE SERIES

HBO’s new flagship show ‘Westworld‘ entered with a big bang in its first season. Since ‘Game of Thrones‘ is ending soon, HBO was ahead of the game and needed its new sci-fi action original show and ‘Westworld‘ was its name. That rhymed a little bit. Based on Michael Crichton’s story and film from 1973 of the same name, ‘Westworld‘ takes a theme park (much like Disneyland) to the next level. What do I mean by that? Well, let’s say you entered the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean‘ ride at Disneyland.

Hey guys, Jana here,

cloverfield

The ‘Cloverfield‘ series seems to be a bit low-key, but once the film lands it gathers huge amounts of steam  and fan love. The original film that kickstarted the franchise is 2008’s ‘Cloverfield‘, 8 years later in 2016 saw ‘10 Cloverfield Lane‘. While the film wasn’t a direct sequel, but more like a cousin to the original, we’ve learned that JJ Abrams‘ ‘God Particle‘ is the next relative in the series.

Fernando’s ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 18th, 2015

Fernando M., Here…

starwarshorizontal

It’s incredibly easy to pick apart a movie and find its flaws.  As you can tell from many of my reviews, I am no stranger to doing this to movies.  I could spend hours talking about what JJ Abrams missed in the new Star Wars movie, where he diverged from cannon, where he asked us to suspend disbelief way too much, where he copied too much from the original trilogy, where he didn’t copy enough from the original trilogy.  But no matter how much you nit pick, THIS IS A FINE FILM AND A WELCOME ADDITION TO THE STAR WARS UNIVERSE!

Hey guys, Jana here,

sean-astin-samwise-sam-gamgee-the-lord-of-the-rings-trilogy-joins-the-wizard-world-comic-con-tour-12

My visit to Wizard World’s Comicon in Tulsa, OK would not be complete without getting into the Sean Astin panel. There’s just something about the Rudy Hobbit I’ve always loved. He’s one of the first movie stars to take my breath away in ‘The Goonies‘ and he’s still going strong! Love this man! I don’t understand why Wizard World did not use the Grand Ballroom like they did last year, the Assembly Hall worked out well for some talent, but Astin deserved the big room! It was bursting beyond capacity while we waited for him to take the stage and he was funny, sincere and everyone’s best friend, just like we all expected him to be. He slipped in and out of character reciting lines as Samwise, giving Doug’s legendary lisp some good use from ‘50 First Dates‘, he was amazing to see and worth the price of admission on his own.

Hey guys, Jana here,

star-trek-3

If you’re a Trekkie and paid attention to director Justin Lin’s Twitter feed today, you would see what I’m about to tell you. Lin gave us the new title for the third film in the rebooted franchise. ‘Star Trek Beyond‘. I wonder if the incredibly retro looking patch is going to win over any of the haters that torched the last film, in particular, ‘Star Trek Into Darkness‘ because of how much it felt different to the series it’s based on among other reasons.

Hey guys, Jana here,

us_11-22-63_cover__span

I’ve been watching the progress of ‘11/22/63‘ on it’s journey from best-selling novel by the granddaddy of mystery/horror, author Stephen King, to its eventual transformation as an original series for Hulu. Today the JJ Abrams’ Bad Robot backed production has announced a director and the casting for several principal characters!

Hey guys, Jana here with more Wizard World Tulsa news!

william-shatner-sfSpan

I had the pleasure of sitting in on William Shatner’s panel on Saturday 11-8-14 that included a Q&A with fans. He was a remarkable speaker, very engaging with the audience and truly loved the chance to be there. The ballroom his panel was held in was packed to capacity with every manner of attendee imaginable. When he was introduced, there was an electric buzz in the room that was entirely palpable. The hype was broken only when he was announced as a musician. Once he took the stage, he seemed in his element, comfortable and right at home. He jumped directly into fan questions.

Hello, Jana here,

sw-poster-49

Star Wars fans have been a mixture of excited and perplexed over Episode VII’s announcement. It would be great for us if George Lucas was tapping into his galaxy once again to bring us the latest chapter. Alas, that’s not the case. Lucas sold rights over to Disney and retired to go back to making films in his garage. At least that’s what I remember from an article. At any rate, he’s not running the show this time around. Star Wars isn’t like, say, the James Bond movies, you can’t just change out the lead and let each director have a different version of 007’s world. Star Wars fans want conformity. We’ve grown to love this galaxy and demand that anyone else that touches it, love it as much as we do.

Hi, Bryan Here….

Columbia Pictures is courting Jamie Foxx to star as the next villain in the sequel to ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’, which already has Andrew Garfield returning to star as Spidey and Marc Webb returning to direct. The script for the new film was written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, and Jeff Pinker, which was based on a previous treatment by James Vanderbilt. Remember Kurtzman and Orci wrote the reboot of ‘Star Trek’ for JJ Abrams.

Ron Howard To Film Biopic on Barry Seal!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Feb 10th, 2014

Jana B. here,

ron-howard-jj-abrams

Universal Pictures was caught up in a bidding auction against Sony. The prize? A hot script by Gary Spinelli (Stash House) that has yet to be written for the rock bottom price of $1 million! Ron Howard is already attached to direct. I’m sure Universal is banking on Howard’s vision to garner the film a big box office viewing, after all he is a proven success with films like ‘Apollo 13‘, ‘A Beautiful Mind‘, ‘Cinderella Man‘ and ‘The Davinci Code‘ that have ruled their box office runs. Doug Davison, Brian Grazer and Kim Roth are all attached to produce or executive produce. Grazer is a success on his own steam and is often paired with Ron Howard for cinematic success.
