by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 10th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

We wrote back in December that Steven Spielberg’s ‘JAWS’ was finally going ot come out on bluray, but no date was given and no specs or extras.  Well today, everything was announced.  This is going to be pretty kick ass.  ‘JAWS’ on blu-ray for the first time ever.   ‘JAWS’  comes to Blu-ray  for the first time ever on August 14th, 2012 and  features an all-new, digitally remastered and fully restored picture, as well as 7.1 surround sound.  The film is one of 13 classic Universal films selected to be digitally remastered and fullyrestored from 35mm original film elements as part of Universal’s ongoing 100th Anniversary celebration.

‘JAWS’ Finally coming to Bluray!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 23rd, 2011

Hi Bryan Here….

This is AWESOME news.  I’ve been waiting for this film to be released in HI-DEF for quite some time.  It seems like Spielberg and his team are doing it up right.  At least I hope so.  Spielberg did confirm that he will not be changing anything for this release like he did to his film ‘E.T.’.  ‘JAWS’ will be released August 14th, 2012.  No specs or extras have been announced yet, but I imagine within a little bit of time there will be a full list of all the goodies to come with this release.

Film Review: ‘A Quiet Place’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 4th, 2018

Comedians have routinely had a tough time shaking their labels as depthless clowns, but lately some are rejecting that type-cast in cinema and using their own material to change the minds of the public. Breaking away from his best known work as Jim in ‘The Office’, John Krasinski followed Jordan Peele’sGet Out‘ lead by taking the director’s role for the opposite end of the spectrum: Horror. His cleverly silent debut thriller ‘A Quiet Place’ has inexorable intensity, satisfying character development and bona fide heartbreak. Not since ‘Signs’ has there been such a fascinatingly atmospheric creature feature!

Blu-ray Review: The Incident!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 5th, 2018

THE FILM

I’m sure most of you haven’t heard of a little film called ‘The Incident‘, which isn’t exactly a great title, but is one hell of a ride from start to finish. Released back in 1967, I’m sure this film did to subway passengers as ‘JAWS‘ did to swimmers in any body of water, which was scare the hell out of them. ‘The Incident‘ follows a group of strangers on a late night subway car, who are all headed to their destinations, but are all terrorized by a couple of criminals over the course of the film.

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

I’m so excited that Steven Spielberg’s film catalogue is coming to 4K UHD. On September 19th, his famous alien film Close Encounters of the Third Kind will be released with a new 4K restoration in a 3-Disc edition with all-new bonus features. There is a collectible Limited Edition Giftset that will have illuminated packaging and actually play the 5-tone song that the aliens communicate to Earth. There is a big booklet included too along with all three versions of the film, being the theatrical cut, the Special Edition, and the Director’s Cut.

Just a few of my favorite posters!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jun 11th, 2017

Hey guys, Jana here,

image

There are several elements that go into play when a movie is prepping for their initial debut. There is an advertising campaign, and the goal is to saturate the atmosphere with the upcoming movie, all designed to get us to show up in theaters and plunk down a chunk of our hard-earned cash. One of the first type of media to invade our subconscious is the all-important movie poster. This may seem like a small thing, but each poster is carefully designed to share just enough information that will reel us a bit closer, then just like when fishing, set that hook.

It’s almost time! October 21, 2015 is so close you can taste it. If you don’t know the significance of that date, you’re not too big of a ‘Back to the Future‘ fan, then. The date, of course is the destination Marty McFly traveled to in 1989’s ‘Back to the Future II‘.

Celebrate your July 4th Holiday with these Films!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 3rd, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

the-sandlot-20th-anniversary-1157_rgb

In the midst of family and friend get-togethers, 37 pounds of BBQ spare ribs, ten gallons of creamy cool coleslaw, floating in a pool, and setting off fireworks, while listening to Neil Diamond’s ‘America’, I also like to enjoy “that one night game a year”, meaning I love to watch July 4th inspired films. I usually do a mini movie marathon of them with the usual food and beverages that go with each film. I’ve done this the past few years, with one year, taking a break to do an all John Carpenter/Kurt Russell marathon. That was a lot of fun. But, for those of you who want to enjoy a movie or three over the holiday weekend, but keep with the spirit of the 4th of July, here are a few suggestions to keep you patriotic.

If the news about recent shark attacks hasn’t scared you from the beaches already, let’s let Eli Roth (‘Hostel‘, ‘Cabin Fever‘) give it a try. That’s what Warner Bros. has to be telling itself after closing a deal with the multi-talented director to helm a story titled ‘Meg‘ that’s spent some time at the top of the New York Times Bestseller list. Meg isn’t a coquettish girl, or the raving demon-bitch from ‘Supernatural‘ either, this Meg is an ancient threat to waterways as a 60 foot Megaladon tends to be.

Hey guys, Jana here,

HappyMadison

If anyone would have suggested that the mass of little red envelopes flooding the post would one day throw the entertainment industry in a tizzy, we’d have laughed at the possibility. That was 1997 and none of us had any idea of how big a shadow Netflix would end up casting. The SVOD dropped a Jaws-like bomb into the normally calm seas of the movie biz and set the choppy seas in motion by announcing their partnership with The Weinstein Company and IMAX to release ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend‘ on the same day for Netflix viewers and IMAX theaters. Not content to let the waters settle, Netflix has another partnership they want to share. The controversial company and Adam Sandler have entered a partnership that will feature a four-pack of films, starring Sandler of course, and produced under his Happy Madison banner that will go straight to the subscription members, no theater stops in between.

Top 10 List of Reboots We Don’t Want To See!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 8th, 2014

Paul N., Here…

Terminator-5-TV-Series

Like Bill Murray once said, “he’s got to be stopped. And I have to stop him.” You might have thought he was talking about a weather-predicting rodent, but no, he was actually talking about studio executives (the “he” is collective). Hollywood, like any business, is in it to make money. Therefore, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that they choose to rehash tried and true film formulas over and over again rather than take a chance on something new. While this is understandable (albeit infuriating), it doesn’t excuse the idea that EVERYTHING deserves to be re-made. Some films, like priceless art, should never be re-made and re-sold. Every time a classic film gets re-made, audiences hold their collective breaths and hope that it won’t be a straight shot in “the feels” (that nostalgic part of your brain that remembers, with fondness, all your pop culture favorites).

Michael “explosion” Bay is releasing his latest bastardization of 80’s culture unto the world in the shape of the beloved “heroes in a half shell”. In case you haven’t been following, this has been one cluster mess after another. From alien origins to white-washed villains, this movie begs the questions: “does Michael Bay hate the 80’s? Did he have some traumatically horrific experience with toys when he was a kid? Why does he have to take a giant dump on our collective fond memories time after time?”  Read the rest of this entry »

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

sharknado-2-the-second-one-300x300

The Discovery Channel’sShark Week‘ 2014 is coming up soon, and since SyFy changed the entire Shark game last year with the incredible ‘Sharknado‘, they are jumping on the bandwagon with ‘Sharknado Week‘, which will show the first film, and premiere the sequel ‘Sharknado 2: The Second One‘, along with Roger Corman’s new film ‘Sharktopus vs. Pteracuda‘. I of course expect a few other amazing programs to be announced. But we do know that ‘Sharknado 2‘ will debut on July 30th, and the Corman film will air on July 26th. I can only imagine that Discovery is not too happy with this announcement, but hey, ‘Sharknado Week’  sounds pretty awesome!

Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks Teaming Up Again!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Apr 22nd, 2014

Hello, Jana here,

09-steven-spielberg-tom-hanks-1

I’m like any other film-lover and I have favorite directors that I will religiously watch anything they turn out. I love the films of Joss Whedon, Cameron Crowe, Quentin Tarantino and Steven Spielberg among others. Spielberg took a bite out of fame with one of my absolute favorite movies of all-time, ‘Jaws‘ in 1975. Yes, another thing I love is a pun, no matter how bad it can be. Spielberg has far too many epic films to count without devoting a whole article to the greatness that is Spielberg. Some of the highlights are ‘E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial‘, the ‘Indiana Jones‘ films, ‘Schindler’s List‘…and on and on and on.

Podcast #29 – Movies That Should Be Made Into Musicals!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 17th, 2014

Hi, Bryan Here…

shop2_t588

We hope you are enjoying our 29th podcast as much as we are. In the past, we have done a few segments where we give a pitch to a wealthy billionaire (fake, of course) of a topic we want to see greenlit. We have pitched our own music festivals, film festivals, and TV networks, as we discussed all the cool things that we wanted to create and give the world. So along those same lines, we came up with Films that we want to see made into musicals for the Broadway stage. And the more ridiculous the better. My example to my fellow podcasters was ‘SE7EN: The Musical‘!! It only got better from there! And please let us know, what you think by going to our FACEBOOK page, which you should visit to catch up on all the latest information. And don’t forget to visit iTunes and Stitcher and subscribe to our podcast. Enjoy the show.

J.J. Abrams has just teamed up with video game company, Valve to develop future projects based on their video games. Abrams’ production banner, Bad Robot will help develop these projects, which is to start fairly soon. Valve is known mostly for their games, ‘Half-Life‘, ‘Portal‘, and ‘Left 4 Dead‘. And not only will they develop films together, but also new video games. I’m calling a future ‘Star Trek‘ or ‘Star Wars‘ game for Valve in the coming years.

Bryan’s Review of ‘Ted’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 27th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here…

‘Ted’ is hilariously funny.  I didn’t expect it to be as humorous as it was, but I busted a gut from start to finish.  I’m not a huge ‘Family Guy’ fan. so I admit, I was a bit apprehensive to watch a feature film written and directed by Seth MacFarlane.  I was quite surprised as to how warm and witty it was.  After the first 15 minutes or so of seeing an animated teddy-bear come to life, I really didn’t see it as a teddy-bear, but rather an actual person.  MacFarlane captured a genuine and heartwarming film with an ultra raunchy and vulgar kick at every turn.
