Director Roland Emmerich has been talking to masses these last few days on his sequel to ‘Independence Day‘. A couple of days ago, he said that Will Smith won’t be returning as the lead as he is too expensive, but he is trying to work out a del with him for a small cameo role. However, he did say today when talking to movie.com, Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum would be back in their respective roles.

Celebrate your July 4th Holiday with these Films!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 3rd, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

the-sandlot-20th-anniversary-1157_rgb

In the midst of family and friend get-togethers, 37 pounds of BBQ spare ribs, ten gallons of creamy cool coleslaw, floating in a pool, and setting off fireworks, while listening to Neil Diamond’s ‘America’, I also like to enjoy “that one night game a year”, meaning I love to watch July 4th inspired films. I usually do a mini movie marathon of them with the usual food and beverages that go with each film. I’ve done this the past few years, with one year, taking a break to do an all John Carpenter/Kurt Russell marathon. That was a lot of fun. But, for those of you who want to enjoy a movie or three over the holiday weekend, but keep with the spirit of the 4th of July, here are a few suggestions to keep you patriotic.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Geostorm’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 29th, 2018

THE FILM

Natural disaster films will always have a special place in my heart. Most of the time, they are over-the-top, ridiculous, and never make a lick of sense. Still, there is something entertaining in watching giant cities fall due to an alien invasion, a giant lizard, or is with the case of ‘Geostorm‘, extreme weather. No matter what the premise, these films usually have the same intentions and plot structure, which usually involves one hero guy to save the day, millions of casualties, hilarious one-liners, and enough insane plot tangents that would cause you to have a headache.

Who doesn’t want to see that? The Blu-ray comes out January 23rd, but you can watch it digitally on January 16th. There will be behind the scenes extras, visual effects, and more included here too. Dolby Atmos sound is also included, which is damn good for this type of movie. Below are the full details for the release.

Film Review: ‘Battle of the Sexes’!!

by Janet White on Sep 22nd, 2017

Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…

The year was 1972; Billie Jean King (Emma Stone) had just won the US Open. Thrust into the mainstream limelight, emerged into the Women’s Lib movement, and treated as the lesser sex by the world, King breaks free from the bonds of the United States National Lawn Tennis Association. The USNLTA paid the female players considerably less than the male players for illogical reasons like men are the big ticket sellers; men need the money for their families, etc. With her trusted friend and manager, Gladys Heldman (Sarah Silverman), along with her and other female tennis players the face of tennis was forever changed.

The New GEOSTORM Trailer is Insanely Ridiculous!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 6th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

Geostorm is a new movie coming out from Warner Bros. that looks like every disaster movie mixed in with a presidential kidnapping with King Leonidas from 300, spartan kicking the weather down on Earth from his space station. The ‘GeoStorm’ Trailer is Here!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 8th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

Screen Shot 2017-03-08 at 1.53.42 PM

.In what looks to be the absolute WORST film of the last five years, ‘GEOSTORM‘ finally has a trailer. What is ‘GeoStorm‘ exactly? First off, let me just say that this film was supposed to come out a couple of years ago, but keeps getting pushed back – for obvious reasons. Mainly because, it looks like a giant SHIT-STORM of Epic proportions. This film is directed by Dean Devlin who really hasn’t done a directing gig, but rather produced the ‘Independence Day‘ films. So take that information and replace alien invasions with giant tornados, tsunamis, and snowballs the size of Mt. Rushmore hurling into skyscrapers.

Janet W., Here…

the-duff

The Duff opens with a voice-over introduction by the female lead, Bianca (Mae Whitman), to the stereotypes of high school in true John Tucker Must Die or Breakfast Club style.  Special effects are used to present labels of the different types (tough girl, etc.).  With nearly the same shot composition of Jawbreaker and Juno, we see close-ups of beautiful girls as the narrator announces their qualities and then a quick admission that she was not either of them.  Enter the scary nemesis, Madison (Bella Thorne) just like Not Another Teen Movie and She’s All That.  So many other teenybopper films came to mind as I watched The Duff

Top 10 Horribly Cheesy Scenes in Otherwise Decent Movies!!

I am not claiming that all of the following movies are cinematic works of art. Some of these films might be considered mediocre at best. However, they do all have one thing in common; all of them suffer from having that one scene that takes audiences out of the moment and makes them groan in disbelief.  This list includes movies that were meant to be taken seriously. So over-the-top comedies and machismo action flicks will not be found as they are created with the intent of being ridiculous.

When Roland Emmerich’s name is mentioned, it’s usually attached to a feature film that is underway, has wrapped or being promoted. This isn’t the case. Emmerich is directing and exec producing ‘New Angeles‘, by comic book writer Gregg Hurwitz, for the small screen. This is a new project combining Slingshot Global Media, Emmerich’s Centropolis banner and Keanu Reeves and Stephen Hamel of Company Films. The best-selling novelist and comic book writer, Hurwitz will write the script but also have an exec producer position. “Gregg is an incredibly imaginative writer, and I’m looking forward to bringing his ideas for the show to life,” Emmerich said. “It’s exciting to get the opportunity (to) bring a massive project like this to the small screen with a rapidly changing television space.”

Film Review: ‘Oblivion’

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 19th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

It’s been a great couple of years for science fiction fans. The sci-fi genre has shown its big head again, and the masses have seem to be eating it all up.  No matter what your opinion on a particular sci-fi film of recent, you can’t deny that the genre is back with a vengeance. Films like ‘Looper’ brought the future and time travel aspects to a great level of entertainment, whereas ‘Cloud Atlas’ made us think and at times confused us as to what was going on. None the less, it was a giant spectacle on screen, much of like we have seen many times before.

Bryan’s Review of ‘Extraterrestrial’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 23rd, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

I didn’t quite know what to expect from Nacho Vigalondo’s ‘Extraterrestrial’, but I was pleasantly surprised with the results.  ‘Extraterrestrial’ is a romantic comedy with an ‘Independence Day’-sized alien invasion.  That’s the best way I can describe the film.  Over its ninety-minute run time, we enjoy the whimsy and follies of a budding new romance, while hundreds of UFO’S enter Earth’s atmosphere.  ‘Extraterrestrial’ will make you laugh and warm your heart until the next impending alien invasion.

Hi Bryan Here….

Finally this film got made.  ‘Anonymous’ has been in the hands of director Roland Emmerich for almost a decade.  He has wanted to make the film for quite some time, but has never found the proper funding nor right studio.  Well his dreams came reality and he finally go to make the film he wanted.  Emmerich is most known for directing ‘Independence Day’, ‘2012’, ‘The Day After Tomorrow’, and ‘10,000 B.C.’.  Not exactly quality films.  I will say this is the second best of Emmerich films.  Second to ‘Stargate’.  But that’s not saying much.  ‘Stargate’ is AWESOME.  ‘Anonymous’ is not.  Anonymous’ at best is a jumbled and confused decent attempt at a great film.

Sam Raimi (Evil Dead) and Bill Block (producer of District 9) have tapped into Andrew Marlowe’s script called “EDF”.

Someone over at Vulture has read the script and said it is a cross between “Top Gun” and “Independence Day” with a hint of “The Last Starfighter”.  The title “EDF” stands for Earth Defense Force.  Not sure if that will stick.  It is supposed to be about Earth’s response to an imminent alien invasion.

Now I have faith in Sam Raimi for the most part.  I will completely forgive him for Spider-Man 3, and Bill Block still has not done wrong.  I’d like to see what Raimi can do with an alien flick because he sure knows how to deal with monsters and demons.

I just hope there is a volleyball scene in EDF.  Top Gun Style.

Not enough Tom Cruise posts.

Alien Invasion Film “Skyline” Gets a 2nd Trailer

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 29th, 2010

It has been a while since we got a flashy Alien Invasion movie.  I can remember Spielberg’s remake of “War of the Worlds” and 1994’s Independence Day being the typical goto movies if you wanted to watch aliens come to earth and destroy us humans.

Skyline looks no different.  It stars Donald Faison (Scrubs) and Eric Belfour (Six Feet Under) as in the lead roles as aliens try to kill all of us.

I think I saw a transformer and the creature from Cloverfield in this trailer.

All in all, I hope this is a good time.  I do not expect greatness, but hopefully it won’t be to Michael Bay-ish.

Below is the 2nd trailer for the film.  What do you think?
