Film Review #2: Spider-Man: Homecoming!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 7th, 2017

Dan M., here….

Spider-Man: Homecoming is a really good “Marvel” (too lazy to explain all the Sony stuff) movie that is hopefully the breath of fresh air the MCU needs. It had much smaller stakes, much more realized supporting cast and World that they operated in, a good villain that made sense, and a finale that didn’t turn into a $45million CGI punching. If the future of the solo Marvel films is going to be smaller universe conflicts that are more narrowly focused like this and Ant-Man? I am here for it. Leave space to Guardians & Thor, the end of the World to the Avengers, and weird dimensions to Doctor Strange. Give me low level criminals that Spider-Man has to fight before a math test to break those huge films up any day of the week.

Film Review: Spider-Man: Homecoming!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 5th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

Another Spider-Man movie with a different Spider-Man? Enough is enough already, right? You’d be wrong with Marvel’s first whole Spider-Man movie called Spider-Man: Homecoming. We’ve seen enough Spider-Man origin stories to last a life time, and luckily Marvel doesn’t give us another one. In fact, like we saw in Captain America: Civil War, Spidey (Tom Holland) already has the cool suit made by Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), as he helped the Avengers basically fight each other.

‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Has a Trailer!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 28th, 2017

HI everyone, Bryan here…

Screen Shot 2017-03-28 at 11.48.23 AM

All the cookies should be given to Sony, because they have finally learned to share ‘Spider-Man‘ with Marvel Studios. We saw the actor Tom Holland in the Spidey-suit in ‘Captain America: Civil War‘, and was probably the best Spider-Man we’ve seen thus far, but I imagine we will see about 1245 more versions of this character over the next couple of years. Hell, we still need Spider-Man to go into Darkness or something like that.

Hey guys, Jana here,

image-credit-marvel

Is there anything Michael Keaton can’t do?! The answer to that question is “No”. Ok, he couldn’t exactly carry and birth a pack of puppies (without surgical help), but I’d like to think even Keaton could overcome that one if he wanted it bad enough. One thing he’s not done with is being super. As the first Batman I fell in love with he’ll always be the bat to me, but it looks like he’s ready to move to the villainous side of the comic book coin, he’s signed on to appear as Vulture in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming‘.

Dan Moran’s Review of ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 4th, 2018

Ant-Man & The Wasp is perfectly fine. Its ok. It is certainly a two hour movie in which things happen. I was entertained by things that happened in this movie, that I definitely saw, but I don’t think matter at all. I love Paul Rudd. Evangeline Lily as Wasp is delightful. Michael Pena steals every single scene he is in again. Michael Douglas certainly enjoys his paycheck. Walton Goggins is wasted, but my face lit up every time he spoke. This is without a doubt the best cast of all the solo Marvel films. The problem with the movie is that it was released at the worst possible time to get anyone to care about it.

Film Review #2: ‘Thor: Ragnarok’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 4th, 2017

Taika Waititi legitimately reinvigorated  the marvel brand with Thor: Ragnarok. A lot of the criticism that Marvel movies get is that there are no stakes and we know that the heroes will always win. No kidding? That’s every superhero movie. No one thought Iron Man would die, no one thought Cap would die, no one thought Batman was dead in TDKR, no one thought (cared?) Superman died in BvS. Waititi proves that not taking a paint by numbers destroy the world story too seriously can be a damn blast.

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

This movie sounds like so much fun and a little like that 1980’s horror film by Lamberto Bava called Demons, which followed a bunch of people attending a movie screening of a horror film, only to find out that there was an evil force that turned them into blood thirsty demons. This new film though is called Blood Fest and comes from the Rooster Teeth team, which brought us Red vs Blue and Lazer Team.

Hey guys, Jana here,

Sam Esmail, you know the guy behind the creation of ‘Mr. Robot‘? He’s on tap to take on a Bermuda Triangle project for Universal. Several different sets of writers have taken on the task and not come up with anything the company wants to roll with. This could prove to be an unwritable movie, perhaps plagued by the mysterious things it’s about? One good thing is the previous writers are still accounted for, so they haven’t disappeared completely.

The Pilgrimage Trailer Looks Hardcore!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 13th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

“I’m on a pilgrimage to see a moose!” Well, not so much here, but there’s a new movie coming out on August 11th called Pilgrimage that looks hardcore. From what I can tell from the bloody violent trailer, it looks like a cross between Braveheart, a supernatural horror film, and Scorsese’s recent Silence film, but you know, with more decapitations and blood. Jon Bernthal (Walking Dead) and Tom Holland (Spider-Man: Homecoming), along with Richard Armitage (The Hobbit) star in the film, and takes place in Ireland in the year 1209 where a group of monks being a pilgrimage to escort an ancient relic. Things get out of hand, human heads end up on giant sticks, sword fights ensue, and blood is shed. This seems right up my alley.

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

M. Night Shyamalan was the next greatest filmmaker in the world. With films like The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, and Signs – the talented filmmaker was set to be the next Spielberg, Lucas, Scorsese, Hitchcock, and Gilliam combined into one person. It was working for him. Then, Shyamalan went on a “bender” and made a ton of shitty films, but I do believe this was a case of Hollywood taking control and not letting him do anything creative.

‘Batman: The Killing Joke’ Review!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jul 25th, 2016

Hey guys, Jana here,

Batman-The-Killing-Joke-Subtitle-Indonesia

I have been waiting for a very long time to see ‘Batman: The Killing Joke‘ come to life on screen. This is one of those stories that has a larger importance, than just an entertaining read, it’s a bit of an origin story and remains a linchpin in the Batman/Joker/Commissioner Gordon/Batgirl saga. Spoilers ahead, darlings.

Blu-ray Review: ‘The Wire’ Complete Series!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 2nd, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

91lJX3dx75L._SL1500_

THE TV SERIES

HBO ‘sThe Wire‘ might be one of the best television shows to ever be aired on any sort of cable or primetime channel. It’s authenticity to real life Baltimore and the lives of the law enforcement, politicians, and criminals is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. In fact, it’s so realistic and well-acted, that one might for a second think they were watching a documentary. Creator David Simon even hired real life criminals and thugs to be a part of the show to give each episode that realness we can totally see through each season.

Film Review: ‘Now You See Me’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 30th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

now-you-see-me-banner

With a mix of ‘The Illusionist‘ and ‘The Prestige‘, and a healthy dose of ‘Ocean’s 11‘, director Louis Leterrier gives us ‘Now You See Me‘, which is a heist movie involving four magicians. The illusions in the film are over-the-top, but incredible and despite the movie’s flaws, its super fast pace makes its problems disappear from memory. With an all-star cast and decent dialogue, this magical caper might be one of the summer’s biggest surprises.
