Film Review: ‘[Girls Trip]’!!

by Janet White on Jul 22nd, 2017

Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…

We’ve seen this storyline before. Four friends come together, experience a separation, reconnect and hijinks abound. In Girls Trip, Ryan (Regina Hall), Lisa (Jada Pinkett Smith), Sasha (Queen Latifah), and Dina (Tiffany Haddish) met in college, became the Flossy Posse and were thick as thieves. Then life happened and disrupted their efforts to stay close. An opportune event, New Orleans’ Essence Festival, changes all of that…

Hey guys, Jana here,

rs_560x415-150610130309-1024.gilmore-girls-reunion.cm.61015

It’s almost time to get snuggled in for a movie night with those chatty, witty, hilarious and emotional Gilmore Girls. Of course I’m talking about the upcoming revival of the series that Netflix is engineering. While we know who is coming back to appear – everybody – and we know when it will debut – this year – we didn’t know what the official title would be…until now.

Film Review #2: ‘Thor: Ragnarok’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 4th, 2017

Taika Waititi legitimately reinvigorated  the marvel brand with Thor: Ragnarok. A lot of the criticism that Marvel movies get is that there are no stakes and we know that the heroes will always win. No kidding? That’s every superhero movie. No one thought Iron Man would die, no one thought Cap would die, no one thought Batman was dead in TDKR, no one thought (cared?) Superman died in BvS. Waititi proves that not taking a paint by numbers destroy the world story too seriously can be a damn blast.

Film Review: ‘Before I Fall’!!

by Janet White on Mar 3rd, 2017

Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…

Before I Fall - Party

Before I Fall, based on the novel written by Lauren Oliver, opens with an out of focus shot of Samantha Kingston (Zoey Deutch). Sam, as she is affectionately called, is for all intents and purposes, perfect.  She is pretty, dates the best looking jock, and is part of the top clique in the school. Four friends, Sam (Deutch), Lindsay (Halston Sage), Ally Harris (Cynthy Wu), and Elody (Medalion Rahimi), ruling the school, doing everything together, and partying hard are the ingredients of your typical high school drama. Next, the viewer is inundated with a montage of the people in her world beginning their days in different ways. Suddenly a dread comes over me, am I stuck watching a teenybopper film?  Read the rest of this entry »

Film Review: ‘Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 6th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

mike-and-dave-need-wedding-dates

I think the vulgar wedding comedy has formed its own sub genre these days. With films like ‘Wedding Crashers‘, ‘Bridesmaids‘, ‘American Wedding‘, and ‘The Hangover‘, you have all the ingredients to make a modern audience laugh with toilet humor, vulgar language, sex, drugs, excessive amounts of alcohol, and a happy ending (pun very intended). The next on the list of this current sub-genre of wedding comedies is ‘Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates‘, which is actually based off a real life story of brothers Mike and Dave Stangle, who took to the internet to find dates for their sister’s wedding, offering a free trip. They went viral, got a ton of responses, went on national television, and had a book come out.

Hey guys, Jana here,

threes_company_landlord_apartment_jack_3d_hd-wallpaper-569919

Classic TV Series turning into movies is something a lot of us are sooooo sick of. They are either really great, or really awful – not much of an in between point. I can usually pinpoint where I’ll land on that scale depending on the property in question. This time, it’s ‘Three’s Company‘. Yeah, the song that’s stuck in your head has been on a permanent loop in my head for the last 10 hours, and if it’s not in your head, yet, let me help…”Come and knock on our door.”

Hey guys, Jana here,

mike-dave-need-wedding-dates-movie-poster

Coming to theaters July 8 of this year is a scenario many of us have agonized over, needing a date to a wedding we can’t skip out on. Most of us rely on friends, or even try the dreaded blind-date approach, but not these two guys. Party-hard brothers Mike (Adam Devine) and Dave (Zac Efron) go to an extreme to find the perfect date to take to the wedding, which just happens to involve a trip to Hawaii. They place an online ad to find girls their family will approve of. The girls (Anna Kendrick, Aubrey Plaza) who win the position have a little secret their dates will soon learn, they are just looking for a trip to the islands and plan on partying harder than the brothers ever dreamed of.

Film Review: ‘Dirty Grandpa’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 21st, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

UDEP_D10_01854.CR2

January continues to roll in with the bad films as is usual for this time of year. It astonishes me that this screenplay was ever on the famed Hollywood blacklist. Perhaps some of it might have been funny on paper, but it never translated well into film, even with the star power of Robert De Niro as you’ve never seen him like this before. You won’t be surprised to see that the director of the film is a guy named Dan Mazer, who was the creative right-hand man to Sacha Baron Cohen since ‘The Ali G Show‘.

Film Review: ‘The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 5th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

second-best-exotic-marigold-hotel

It’s been four years since the charming occupants first stepped into the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, and I’m here to tell you, that they are all still doing well. Director John Madden and his writer Ol Parker are back for this second trip to India with more or less the same tropes and conflicts from the first outing. ‘The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel‘ won’t change the game or genre, but it’s still filled with enough charm and laughs to satisfy you through its 122 minute run-time. If you’re new to this film franchise, the first film, ‘The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel‘ focused a young guy named Sonny (Dev Patel) who opened up a pleasing and beautiful small hotel in the heart of India.

Hey guys, Jana here,

Barbie-Wallpapers-Cartoons-Disney-e1405610118291

Live action movies come in all shapes and sizes and are based on just about anything that can be stretched into a slight struggle with a few quirky side-kicks, maybe an impossible love-interest, the formula seems to remain the same even if the names are changed to protect the innocent. The toy line and unnaturally proportioned ‘Barbie‘ has been the topic of a new film for a bit now with a new draft coming from the most unlikely of sources, Diablo Cody.

Jana’s Best/Worst of 2014!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Dec 15th, 2014

Hey guys, Jana here,

PicMonkey Collage

It’s been a big year for the entertainment world. Netflix’s initial push to bring movie-theater worthy films straight to streaming customers and bypassing the big screen altogether set off a chain of deals that will take those fresh releases and push them directly into homes allowing us to bypass a $15.00 soda, but denying us the $20.00 popcorn you can only get at the theater. Then came the deluge of series and movies being made for exclusive run with everyone from Netflix, Amazon to Crackle and everything in between. Top that off with the huge breach of privacy Sony experienced. New releases were flooded onto P2P sharing sites and private emails from the film company’s big wigs that show us how the infrastructure of Sony really works, not to mention what those involved really think of some of their superstars.

‘Dragonwolf’ Blu-Ray Review!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Nov 20th, 2014

Hey guys, Jana here,

51myx4irw-L

THE FILM

Dragonwolf‘ is a typical martial arts film in a lot of ways. If you want something slightly entertaining with fight scenes, this will do nicely. If you’re hell-bent on seeing quality fights, pick up a Bruce Lee flick. Watching this made me so sad though, I really wanted to like this. The finished product doesn’t even deserve an entry to my ‘Eh’ category. You know what I mean, “Hey ‘Dragonwolf‘ is on, wanna watch it?” “Eh, why not?”
