Film Review: ‘Everybody Wants Some’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 6th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

everybody-wants-some-image1

In my mind, Richard Linklater can do no wrong. He is one of the best filmmakers working today and he continues do break ground with iconic films that will forever be seared into our memory. Recently, his film ‘Boyhood‘ garnered a ton of awards and was a milestone in filmmaking as he took twelve years to film the story of a boy growing up around his broken family. It was one of the best movies of that year. From ‘School of Rock‘ to ‘Bernie‘ to ‘Slacker‘ to the ‘Before‘ trilogy – we’ve seen Linklater grow as a filmmaker and deliver excellent characters and great soundtracks over the years. Perhaps his best known or cult favorite film was from 23 years ago, which of course was ‘Dazed and Confused‘.

Film Review: ‘Flower’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 7th, 2018

Sometimes you get a film that seems so good on paper, but after you watch it, you can’t help but be sorely disappointed in just about everything you’ve witnessed. ‘Flower‘ is that kind of movie that had a lot of potential, but just couldn’t get it together for anyone to really relate to, even though it tried to be realistic. The film was directed by Max Winkler who hasn’t really done anything before this, and was written by three male writers, which is weird, because the main characters are female, which causes some strange dialogue for sure.

‘Last Flag Flying’ waves over Blu-ray!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 14th, 2017

Last Flag Flying‘ is coming to Blu-ray on January 30th and will be available digitally on January 16th. The film is directed by Richard Linklater (Dazed and Confused, Everybody Wants Some, Boyhood) and stars Steve Carell, Bryan Cranston, and Laurence Fishburne, and is based on Darryl Ponicsan’s book of the same name. The movie focuses on three older men who all served in Vietnam together. Fast forward many years later, they are all reunited when one of their son’s has died in the Iraq war and they road trip to bury the fallen. It’s a different kind of movie for sure in Linklater’s list of movies, but he proves that he can tackle any subject, even if it isn’t as silly or fun as the above mentioned films of his. There will be audio commentaries, behind the scenes featurettes, deleted scenes, and more included on this Blu-ray. Below is more information on the release.

Favorite Films of 2016!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 30th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

blake-lively-and-the-shark-the-shallows-39717776-1000-544

The end of 2016 is here, which means everyone’s Top 10 list is out already or getting ready to be released. I’m not going to do a Top 10 in order again this year, because there are just so many amazing films I feel so passionate about, that it is difficult to rank them. If you think this is a weak year of films, then you are surely mistaken. I will say that most of the big budget blockbusters this year were duds, but the indie films were nothing short of amazing. So below is the list of films that I truly loved this year. These films will be ones that I watch over and over again, and you should to. I watched 254 films that were released this year (Yes, I counted) and survived to tell the tale. As always, please let me know if any of your favorite films made my list. Enjoy!

You can CLICK the titles of each movie where you can purchase the Blu-rays too. Hooray!

Hey guys, Jana here,

captain-planet

Captain Planet and the Planeteers‘ may not be a show that was at the top of everyone’s memory, but it was a cartoon in the 1990’s and focused on five younger people from all around the world who have magical rings that have the power to control natural elements. Together, they can call Captain Planet, a superhero that leads the fight against all the evils that the environment faces. Now Captain Planet is being called again, but this time for a feature film with none other than nature’s greatest hero, Leonardo DiCaprio producing the project.

Blu-ray Review: John Wick 2

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 5th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

51kbWQ1BmfL

THE FILM

Ever since Keanu Reeves jumped into the role of John Wick in 2014, we all have wanted a sequel in the worst way. Filmmakers Chad Stahelski and David Leitch created a monster of a franchise with that film that brought the action genre back to a high point. That first film had a simple story and some of the best action sequences in a long time. Some bad guys steal John Wick’s car and kill his precious puppy dog a few days after his wife dies. Not knowing John Wick is the best assassin in the world, Wick sets out on revenge and literally kills everybody. It was just so good and showed the world what everyone secretly wants to do if some jerk killed your dog. The first film had a modest budget of only $20 million, but ended up making almost $90 million, which leads us to future sequels.

WWE: Who Will Win the 2017 ‘Royal Rumble’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 20th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

WWE-Royal-Rumble-2017-1-670x388

It’s the MOST wonderful time of the year! No, not the holidays! It’s time for the Royal Rumble, which takes place in January and paves the way for the main event at Wrestlemania every year. Well at least for the last 30 years it has. The Royal Rumble is a Pay-Per-View put on by WWE every year with the Royal Rumble match consisting of 30 superstars entering the ring every 90 seconds. The only way to be eliminated is if you’re thrown over the top rope and your feet land on the ground until one is left in the ring standing. That one winner goes on to the main event at Wrestlemania to challenge the Champion on the grandest stage of all.

4K UHD Review: ‘Suicide Squad’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 13th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

a1kazv9rhrl-_sl1500_

THE FILM

There seems to be a good movie hidden somewhere in ‘Suicide Squad‘, but the film itself makes it nearly impossible for you to find where those good moments are. The film is its own worst enemy, because it promises something new and fresh in the first dozen or so minutes, but then nose dives into the mountain from there on out. This is certainly writer/director David Ayer’s most ambitious project and I can’t tell if it’s his mistake or the collection of DC/Warner Bros. executives who forced the notes on him to make this film not succeed, because again, the first part of the movie gathers your hopes up for something fun. Ayer wrote ‘Training Day‘ and ‘U-571‘, then transitioned into directing with ‘End of Watch‘ and ‘Fury‘, which were both new and fresh takes on tired genres. I was hoping that Ayer could breathe new life and put the DC Comic movie franchise on the right track, but alas, that is not the case.

Hi, Jana here,

Awesome news! The tag-team duo that brought us ‘Bridesmaids‘ is back! Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo are taking celluloid for another spin. ‘Bridesmaids‘ became a slightly unexpected hit on a global scale for being a female-driven comedy. The upcoming flick is going to team Wiig and Mumolo  as writers again, but they will also produce, star and Wiig is going to try her hand at directing the project which is going to be a first effort for the comedian. TriStar Productions is backing the production and they have described the film as the story of “best friends who find themselves in over their heads and out of their depths, which were, perhaps, not too deep to begin with.”  No release date has been set.

Misty S. Here…

the-walking-dead-too-far-gone-1

On tonights episode of AMC’sThe Walking Dead”, we saw the death of some main characters and the fall of the prison. We see the Governor cross the point of no return and Rick being pulled out of his passive aggressive role as leader. It  was one of the saddest and possibly one of the most talked about episodes ever aired on this show.  Let me break it down for you exactly how the mighty prison fell and who exactly died tonight. Hold on to your seat.

Season 4 of the “The Walking Dead” takes place in the 7-8 months in the future. You see a community has begun within the prison. Rick has now taken in more people than just the ones from Woodbury. There is now a high council in place with Rick, Daryl, Carol, Sasha and Hershel on it. You can see how everybody has fallen into new roles within the prison community and grown as almost celebrities in the zombie apocalypse. There is a calm with the chaos of the world that they live in.

Blu-Ray Review: ‘The Perks of Being A Wallfllower’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 8th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

the-perks-of-being-a-wallflower-blu-ray

The Perks of Being A Wallflower’ is hands down one of my favorite films of the year.  I haven’t seen such a genuine coming of age high school movie since the late John Hughes was making his films about being a teenager.  Director and writer Stephen Chbosky hit a home run with  ’The Perks of Being A Wallflower’.  I haven’t fallen in love with characters like this since HBO’s ‘Six Feet Under’ was on television.  I did not want this film to end.

Good Morning ‘Walking Dead‘ fanatics!!!! I know you were on the edge of your seat like I was last night so lets get to it.  The show starts out with a flashback scene between Michonne and Andrea the previous winter. The camera starts with the chain that is holding Michonne’s armless and toothless walkers. They are in the woods and around a camp fire, warming up food. Andrea is warming up the food while Michonne is checking out the perimeter.  They are chit chatting around the fire and Andrea brings up the fact that Michonne never told her where the walkers came from.

Film Review: ‘Rise of the Guardians’

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 19th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

When I walked into the ‘Rise of the Guardians’ screening, I didn’t quite know what to expect.  It could have gone either way for me.  Luckily, it went a good route. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it, mainly due to the unorthodox versions of these characters we have come to know through out the ages.  Not only will ‘Rise of the Guardians’ play to the young ones, but adults will have a fun ride with it too this holiday season.DreamWorks Animation did a bang up job with this project.

Hi, Bryan Here….

The Toronto Film Festival is coming up quickly and it looks like it is going to be one for the books.  ‘Looper’ is going to open up the festival with several other centerpiece films that strike my fancy.  Two of them include Joss Whedon’s Shakespeare film ‘Much Ado About Nothing’, and Terrence Malick’s new film, ‘To The Wonder’.  Can’t wait.  Below is the official press release.  Who’s going? Piers Handling, CEO and Director of TIFF, and Cameron Bailey, Artistic Director of the Toronto International Film Festival, made the first announcement of films to premiere at the 37th Toronto International Film Festival. Films announced include titles in the Galas and Special Presentations programmes. The announced films include 17 Galas and 45 Special Presentations, including 38 world premieres.

Trailer Analysis – Being Flynn

by Justin Cline on Nov 19th, 2011

Howard Stern Signs Five Year Deal with Sirius Radio!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 9th, 2010

Hi Bryan Here…

Today marked the first of five more days left of the Howard Stern Show on Sirius Radio.  It is hard to believe it has been five years since Howard and his crew made the move from terrestrial radio to Sirius.  It has been an excellent ride with tons of laughs, cries, and tons of jokes and some of the best interviews ever given.  Over the past few months, Howard has been contemplating on what his next movie will be.  It was speculated by tons of media outlets and various crew members as if he would retire, or go internet only radio, stay with Sirius, or move to another pay radio, or even back to terrestrial radio.  Everything over the past few months has been very cryptic with answers given by Howard as, “I don’t know what I am doing.  There are a lot of options right now.”  So we have all been on the edge of our seats.  And for good reason.
