Hey guys, Jana here,

dave-bautista-shared-photo-russia-1224247015It looks like ‘Escape Plan 2‘ is officially a go and Sylvester Stallone will be back on screen as Ray Breslin, the man who wrote the book on structural security. In the first film from 2013, he found himself set up and incarcerated in the world’s most secret and secure prison, he has to use his skills to escape with help from the inside. The sequel will not see Stallone alone though, Dave Bautista is on deck to join Sly this time around.

Film Review: ‘Escape Plan’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 17th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

escape-plan-trailer-dl

I counted six one liners in the Schwarzenegger/Stallone film ‘Escape Plan‘. I was hoping for more, and when it came to Schwarzenegger’s big moment to deliver the goods, they must’ve hired a three year old, because his one-liner was pretty lame, as is much of this action thriller that finally has the two biggest action stars of the 80s together at last for an entire movie. Now before we get into the good and bad of this film, let us first discuss the director, whose name is Mikael Hafstrom, who directed the John Cusack vehicle ‘1408‘. But more interestingly, Hafstrom wrote a movie called ‘Kopps‘, which you can see a brief snippet below (it’s required viewing to proceed with the review)….

Hi, Bryan Here….

escapeplan2_medium

It’s finally happened. Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger are finally in a film together where the two of them are the main stars. ‘Escape Plan‘ is set to release in October of this year and actually screened at Comic Con a month ago. It received mixed reviews, but everyone seemed to enjoy it overall, especially Schwarzenegger’s performance.

Hey guys, Jana here,

Big-Trouble-in-Little-China-01

It’s finally happening! I’ve said that a few times this week, first the crossover plan for ‘He-Man‘ and ‘Thundercats‘ comic expansion made my day. This time it’s more comic book news, but like the coolest comic book news I could bring you! ‘Big Trouble In Little China‘ and ‘Escape From New York‘ comics will have a crossover edition!!! That’s right! Kurt Russell x 2! Doublemint Kurt Russell! How much Kurt Russell can you take before it’s too much Kurt Russell? I don’t know, but I’m willing to find out! Now, let’s take a minute to calm down, I expended more energy in the first sentences than I have all week! While I’m wheezing my heart rate back to normal, let’s get the rest of the story.

Film Review: ‘No Escape’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 26th, 2015

Janet W., Here…

Screen Shot 2015-08-26 at 11.54.58 AM

No Escape opens in black with opening credits and the sound of insects chirping.  Suddenly we focus on two glasses of clear beverage.  The camera follows the waiter carrying the glasses through the hotel/mansion until they arrive at the security/food taster.  Upon receiving his approval the waiter continues to the Prime Minister of Thailand and his visitor.  You wonder if something is in the glasses and if the Prime Minister will meet his end.  They both drink and finish their meeting.  As the visitor is escorted out by security, suddenly alarms sound.  The security officer takes off for the Prime Minister.  He is found bloody and dead.  Rebels walk up to the security officer and he draws his blade.  To defend himself?  No, he slices his own throat.  Oh, right, this is a Weinstein film.  Cut to titles that transition into clouds and an airplane window.

Sony Plans To Make Female-Driven Superhero Movie!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Aug 5th, 2014

Hey guys, Jana here,

PicMonkey Collage

It would seem the collective consensus thinks the film-watching world is ready for a female driven superhero movie. I’m not so sure about the idea. Sure, it’s a hot time for leading ladies, but we can’t forget the horrors of the past that quickly. Of course I’m talking about the two names most synonymous with crappy female superhero movie attempts – Halle Berry’sCatwoman‘ and ‘Elektra‘ starring Jennifer Garner. The films were poorly written and the leads were unable to connect the acting with the characters. Maybe it’s the Marvel blood in Berry’s excellent portrayal of Sue Storm in the ‘X-Men’ series that rejected the DC infusion. Regardless of the reasons, there were no attempts to create more (thank God).

Hi, Bryan Here…

escape

I’m very skeptical about this project. The original ‘Escape from New York‘ that starred Kurt Russell and was directed by John Carpenter is pretty much flawless. ‘Escape From LA‘ on the other hand wasn’t as good, even though it had Bruce Campbell. That being said, Hollywood, specifically producer Joel Silver has been wanting to remake the film for the better part of a decade now. But it seems as of recently, that things are picking up speed.

Blu-ray Review: ‘First Kill’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 3rd, 2017

THE FILM

In addition to Bruce Willis starring in a ton of mega-budget action films over the years, Willis has also been starring in direct-to-video movies that many of you have never heard of. Three of these films have been directed by a guy named Steven C. Miller, who is in line to direct the sequel to Sylvester Stallone’s Escape Plan. Anywho, this film is called ‘First Kill‘ and pits Bruce Willis as the bad guy here, which is something we don’t often see play out in other films. If that comes as spoiler to you, don’t let it, because Miller has a difficult time in playing the con game with his audience.

Review #2 of ‘Alien Covenant’!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 22nd, 2017

Dan M., here….

Alien-Covenant-Teaser-Trailer-020

A crew gets a distress signal from a planet. Crew lands on that seemingly abandoned planet. Planet has aliens. Aliens infect or attack humans. A survivor or two must fight said alien to get off the planet. Rinse and repeat. That isn’t to say the Alien: Covenant is a bad movie, it really isn’t but as far as the broad strokes are concerned it is a paint by numbers Alien movie. A marked improvement from Prometheus because it has better characters but the formula to this point is getting a bit stale for me. I didn’t hate this movie. I know it sounds like I did but really I’m just ready for it to evolve a bit more.

Film Review: ‘Sabotage’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 27th, 2014

Hi, Bryan Here…

sabotage-movie-wallpaper-2014-1366x768

Arnold Schwarzenegger has been on quite a role since his political career in California. He has come back in full force to the movie world and has given us three films, including this one, with five more projects on the way. Needless to say, he has been busy. The first two films, since his time in the Governor’s chair in California were ‘The Last Stand‘ and ‘Escape Plan‘, both of which were PG-13 action vehicles for Schwarzenegger that had a silly and highly entertaining premise, even though the plots of both films were ridiculous. But in both of those movies, we received Arnold’s famous one-liners and his angry glare as he looks down upon his enemies with a giant machine gun in his hand, ever so ready to add to his impressive body count.

I never thought I’d write this sentence, but Arnold Schwarzenegger is currently in talks to star in the reboot of Troma’sToxic Avenger’ film. This project will be introduced to potential buys at Cannes this year of all places. I didn’t think Cannes would take any Troma film. But it looks like this re-imaging of ‘Toxic Avenger‘ will be a big budget project. Steve Pink is taking the reins of the film. Pink directed ‘Hot Tub Time Machine‘ and will direct the sequel. This is odd, but amazing news.

4K UHD Review: ‘The Dark Knight Rises’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 2nd, 2018

THE FILM

The threats of terrorism, war, chaos, and financial ruin are all too real these days.  ’The Dark Knight Rises’ dives into these issues on a massive scale, which makes any film in the Marvel universe look like mere “child’s play” (no reference to a knife-wielding murderous doll).  Compared with the other Batman movies, everything is bigger in ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ and there is so much more at stake.  Not one second of this film is wasted, the writing and direction is straight to the point, cohesive, and comes across as totally fulfilling in its 164 minute run-time.

4K UHD Review: ‘Dunkirk’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 19th, 2017

THE FILM

There’s never been a war film like ‘Dunkirk‘, which I’d say is a masterpiece in filmmaking, lead by Christopher Nolan (Inception, The Dark Knight Trilogy). Even though Dunkirk cost $150 million to make, you really wouldn’t know it, as it’s simplistic, yet grand view of the Battle and Evacuation of Dunkirk in 1940 is perfectly captured here. Dunkirk is why we still go to the movies. It’s one of the most intense movies I’ve ever seen and is one of the reasons to get out and see it in IMAX. Other war films try add sweeping music to add an emotional effect or certain camera angles to drum up more dramatic suspense.

Film Review: ‘Ferdinand’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 13th, 2017

If you were to browse any children’s library, you would likely find a little red book with a stout bull on the cover. The Story of Ferdinand has found its way onto countless best of lists and even created controversy around its rebellious symbolism amidst its release in 1936. The new animated feature ‘Ferdinand‘ is no different in its progressiveness, and the film not only challenges the conventions of commonality, but includes heavy themes such as bullying, trophy sport and even meat packing plants. Director Carlos Saldanha has justifiably brought this gentle giant to life and has created a film that, just like its main character, is more than meets the eye.

Film Review #2: ‘Thor: Ragnarok’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 4th, 2017

Taika Waititi legitimately reinvigorated  the marvel brand with Thor: Ragnarok. A lot of the criticism that Marvel movies get is that there are no stakes and we know that the heroes will always win. No kidding? That’s every superhero movie. No one thought Iron Man would die, no one thought Cap would die, no one thought Batman was dead in TDKR, no one thought (cared?) Superman died in BvS. Waititi proves that not taking a paint by numbers destroy the world story too seriously can be a damn blast.

Celebrate the Life of George Romero!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 16th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan and Jana here….

George A. Romero 1940-2017

What a sad day this is. Just the other day, I was thinking and hoping that George Romero had one more zombie film in him left. That’s not the case as the Godfather of the zombie genre and one of the best filmmakers in the horror genre has died today at the age of 77 from lung cancer. With the past few years, the zombie genre has infiltrated every form of media. The Walking Dead, Resident Evil, and tons zombie epics have come in the forms of comic books, TV shows, films, and video games. There wouldn’t be any of this, if it weren’t for George Romero who brought us a super small budget film in 1968 called Night of the Flesh Eaters, later changed to Night of the Living Dead, which gave us the zombie we know today.

In addition to the mass roll out of these releases, there will also be Limited Edition Exclusives available at certain retailers. These exclusives are basically package-only differences, which you can read about below. It looks like Dolby Atmos will be the preferred audio format along with a ton of extras included. Soundtracks we want to see released on Vinyl!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 15th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

preview

I just love soundtracks to movies. I always have and I believe I always will. There is something about a score to a film that just perks me up in all the right ways and inspires my creative side, whether it be to write a screenplay or go back an watch that old film I love. Music is an integral part to films and is considered to be the mojo of every movie. I’m sure we’ve all seen that odd YouTube video of the final scene in Star Wars: A New Hope, where Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Chewbacca walk down a crowded arena to receive their medals to zero music. It’s super weird and awkward with no music, but just random sound effects of footsteps and a rare cough, laugh, and Chewie’s roar. John Williams did such a great job, as he always does with Star Wars music, but that final scene of music really puts your emotions on full blast. It’s all from the soundtrack too.

Ben Affleck’sArgo’ is a brilliantly told film.  Affleck has come a long way since ‘Dazed and Confused’ and ‘Mallrats‘.  In my opinion, Affleck has gotten better with each directorial effort with ‘Gone Baby Gone’, ‘The Town’, and now ‘Argo’, which I think is his best yet.  Not only is ‘Argo’ a great film, it has a smart script, good acting, clever humor in a serious and tragic situation, and impeccable period detail that rivals AMC’s ‘Mad Men’.

Epic List Of The Top 10 Road Trip Flicks!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jul 3rd, 2016

Hey guys, Jana here,

tumblr_nx5wmzgYvb1qewpgqo1_500

Summer means a lot to me, there’s baseball, which I waxed pretty poetic about in last week’s Top 10 Baseball Movies post. There’s fishing, the fourth of July, a multi-colored tongue from Otter Pops, and the all important road trip. Your trip can be a short jaunt to the lake or it can be a days long event that usually culminates in an epic destination – Wally World, anyone? Whether you trip on your own, with your friends or with your family, there’s something wonderful about having a full tank of gas, a stereo full of tunes and the open road in front of you. Depending on who you’re with it can either feel like a hostage situation or a relaxing break from the weekly drag. Most good road trips feel like a bit of both, not to mention the longing for the comfort that is your home toilet.

I’m gonna count down my top 10 movies that feature a road trip. Strap in, kick on the A/C and let the lull of the road below you relaxes your worries. This was not an easy list to winnow down to only 10 with a few honorable mentions. I left off the obvious ‘Thelma and Louise‘, they’re best friends, they kill someone and drive off a cliff. Yeah, I didn’t give you a spoiler alert there because if you haven’t seen this movie by now, you were never going to. Some road trip movies are better than others and we had differing opinions from each other making this list. So read along and tell me where we agree or disagree or what I’ve left out.

Film Review: ’10 Cloverfield Lane’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 10th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

Screen-Shot-2016-01-15-at-7.53.37-AM-620x400

Has it really been 8 years since we saw New York destroyed in ‘Cloverfield‘, which was the “found footage” film produced by J.J. Abrams about a giant monster in NYC. That film was highly secretive before it came out, and nobody really knew anything about it, but it did well at the box office and there was a lot of talk of a sequel for a number of years. A couple of years ago, things started popping up on sites that said “Untitled J.J. Abrams” project, and as of a couple of months ago, we got the first glimpse of a trailer called ‘10 Cloverfield Lane‘, produced by Abrams again and directed by first time feature director Dan Tratchenberg (Portal short). The studio and Abrams himself said that this was not a direct sequel to 2008’s ‘Cloverfield‘, but it was a blood relative or spiritual successor to it, because where do you really go from the end of ‘Cloverfield‘?

Hey guys, Jana here,

diffmain

The Dallas Film Society is, once again, preparing for the Dallas International Film Festival (DIFF) which will run from April 14-24. Since it’s inception in 2007, the festival has been a lynch-pin in the film-release cycle as it represents the world and U.S. debuts of dozens of pictures. Creators and acting talent mingle with distributors, deals are made and we see the results on our own screens, it’s a magical time in the life of a film.

John Williams

The DFS has announced their ten lead off selections that will set the tone for the festival this year along with a few special selections that are certain to give you the warm fuzzies in the form of a special Salute to the Music of John Williams with a special screening of ‘E.T. – The Extra Terrestrial‘ and a special concert at the Dallas City Performance Hall featuring The Dallas Winds. This is all in conjunction with Williams being selected as this year’s AFI Life Achievement Award honoree.

Best Movies of 2015, According To Jana

by Red Zeppelbon on Dec 30th, 2015

Hey guys, Jana here,

PicMonkey Collage

Another year has come and gone and brought with it about a billion movies, some were total crap and a waste of time, but others…oh they were worth every bit of time I spent. Pre-movie hype, post-movie discussion, and the random hours I spent thinking about it in the shower or sitting at a stop-light. Having said that, this is my list of movies that 2015 blessed us with, and maybe a few the year cursed us with.

Film Review: ‘Son of Saul’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 24th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

SonofSaulCannes

I’ve become quite a connoisseur of holocaust films over the years. Being Jewish has connected me in a deeper way than most people to these types of films, as I had family survive and killed during that immensely tragic time. From films like ‘The Sorrow and the Pity‘ to ‘Schindler’s List‘ to even ‘Inglorious Basterds‘ and the ten hour documentary ‘Shoah‘, I’ve seen a ton of films that have dealt with the holocaust on all levels. This particular film however, does something new, which I’ve never seen before. It’s called ‘Son of Saul‘ and is just as rough, depressing, and sad as you might come to expect from a holocaust movie.

Imagine that the leaders of Wal-Mart suddenly snapped and created an invincible killing machine out of their famous smiling logo (not that far-fetched now that I think about it). Now imagine that same death machine decided to take a breather and teach students at a Japanese high school. If you were to film such an event, you’d have something similar to director Eiichirô Hasumi’s creation. The end result is a heartwarming tale of global destruction that’s fun for the whole family.

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

THE SCORCH TRIALS

A year later, we have the sequel to the popular young adult novel series ‘The Maze Runner‘ with ‘The Scorch Trials‘. in my previous discussion about the first film, first time director Wes Ball certainly knew how to film and construct some excellent action sequences that were highly suspenseful and kept the adrenaline flowing like vicious rapids. That being said, the first film had its issues with pacing and dialogue, which is the same problem with the sequel.

Christopher Yost is a big name in the superhero world, he masterminded the script for ‘Thor:The Dark World‘ and the upcoming ‘Thor: Ragnarok‘, besides that, he shaped the world for some of the biggest names in comic-book animation like ‘X-Men: Evolution‘, ‘Fantastic Four: World’s Greatest Heroes‘, ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles‘ and ‘The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Warriors‘, so it makes perfect sense that Sony Pictures and Escape Artists have brought in the master of the effervescent to take a whack at the rewrite of a script for the reboot of ‘Masters of the Universe‘.

Hollywood is doing it again! Why reach for new and original when there is still a few dollars out there that can be made by playing into the already overdone superhero genre? I love comic books, really I do, but the entertainment world is killing them! Today’s kids probably don’t even realize there were these papers covered in bright colors that told a story through word bubbles and POW’s and ZAP’s, we called them comic books. We used to pick them up and read a story about our favorite supes. Why would anyone pick up a comic book when they can just pull out the movie or series about that hero? The supe up for screen treatment is Supergirl.

Jana’s Best/Worst of 2014!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Dec 15th, 2014

Hey guys, Jana here,

It’s been a big year for the entertainment world. Netflix’s initial push to bring movie-theater worthy films straight to streaming customers and bypassing the big screen altogether set off a chain of deals that will take those fresh releases and push them directly into homes allowing us to bypass a $15.00 soda, but denying us the $20.00 popcorn you can only get at the theater. Then came the deluge of series and movies being made for exclusive run with everyone from Netflix, Amazon to Crackle and everything in between. Top that off with the huge breach of privacy Sony experienced. New releases were flooded onto P2P sharing sites and private emails from the film company’s big wigs that show us how the infrastructure of Sony really works, not to mention what those involved really think of some of their superstars.

Since Marvel became their own movie studio back in 2008 with the first ‘Iron Man‘ movie, they have quickly become one of the most lucrative movie studios in Hollywood in less than ten years. With films like ‘Iron Man‘, ‘Thor‘, ‘Captain America‘, ‘Hulk‘, and the billion dollar blockbuster ‘The Avengers‘, you can see why so many people stand in line for hours on end to see the top visual effects, greatest actors, and the fun and thrilling story lines for their favorite superheroes. Martin Scorsese (‘The Wolf of Wall Street‘ and ‘The Departed‘) is one of my favorite directors. This hasn’t been a secret because I rave on his work, constantly. Well, right now Scorsese is going to get the chance to make a film he’s had on his list for more than a decade. I can’t imagine how that must feel to wait for over 10 years to do a film and it finally comes together! The center of attention in this announcement is that it’s for the film of the novel ‘Silence‘. Novelist Shusako Endo had given permission for the novel adaptation to be made once before in 1971. As with everything in Hollywood these days, a re-make is in the works. This time, a bigger budget, bigger stars, bigger director and , probably, a bigger audience.

Let me assure you, there is absolutely NOTHING to applaud or cheer for in ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction‘. If you weren’t sure if Michael Bay couldn’t get any worse as a filmmaker, think again. THE FILM

You would think that by the look of ‘300: Rise of an Empire‘, the sequel to the 2006 hit film ’300′, director Zack Snyder had returned to make this film. Well, you’d be wrong as Noam Murro directed this, making this film his first feature film. But don’t worry, Snyder seemed to have a heavy hand and watchful eye over this film, as his handprints are all over this from his screenplay to the camerawork. It’s all here again in this prequel, side story, and sequel that features a lot of the same characters from the original. ’300′ cost $65 million to make back in 2006 and was largely made in front of a green screen. That film grossed over $457 million dollars.

Good news, everyone. Anchor Bay Entertainment and Scream Factory have finally partnered up to give us horror fans something we have wanted for far too long. Not one but two different Blu-Ray box sets that spans all of the ‘Halloween‘ films. There will be tons of new bonus features, every film in high-definition, collectible packaging, and a 40-page Booklet. You can expect this amazing set in time for Halloween season, specifically on September 23rd. It’s about time they did this, because Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street already have box sets. Glad to see ‘Halloween‘ is catching up with everyone else. Now if we can just get that ‘Phantasm‘ box set to release in the US instead of the UK, all will be well. And today, they have unveiled the amazing Box Art it comes in. This is Fantastic. I Can’t wait. And you can pre-order the set now for 30% off.

Film Review: ‘Godzilla’ (2014)!!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 13th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

godzilla_2014_poster_51784

It has been sixty years since ‘Godzilla‘, the true king of all monsters first graced us with his appearance on the big screen. He definitely made a big impact on audiences around the world and spawned 31 sequels and remakes since then. Director Gareth Edwards brings that number to 32 with his epic and dark toned reboot that is sure to please fans young and old and have them roaring with joy as they exit the theater. Edwards was Hollywood’s top  choice to reboot this franchise after everyone saw his 2010 film called ‘Monsters‘, which focused on two lost lonely souls who have to trek through a quarantined zone in Mexico, while evading giant tentacled monsters.

Hello, Jana here,

game-of-thrones

David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, framers and writers of the award winning series ‘Game of Thrones‘ have set their sites on a new project. Since converting George R.R. Martin’s novel into one of the most popular and award winning series, they have had little time for anything else. The demands of writing and executive producing GoT have left little time for other projects. With the fourth season premiering last Sunday, the pair have set their sites on another novel they are planning to convert to another media. This time, they are looking at a feature film, and the book they will be working from is ‘Dirty White Boys‘ from Stephen Hunter. Hunter also wrote ‘Point of Impact‘, the book that was turned into 2007’s ‘Shooter‘.

Film Review: ‘Visitors’!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Mar 14th, 2014

Hello Jana here,

detail.baa7b437

I always assumed reviewing films would be an extremely awesome thing to do for a living. I never took into account that you won’t always enjoy what you review. I can watch documentaries, I actually prefer them at times. National Geographic and Smithsonian documentaries are great! I love history, current events and learning about new weapons or drugs that are problems now. I don’t even require things being in English to enjoy them. I can read subtitles and if the actors are good enough I don’t even have to rely on subtitles.

Film Review: Winter’s Tale

by Woozie on Feb 13th, 2014

Suzanne L., Here….

Screen Shot 2014-02-13 at 9.10.23 PM

What could possibly go wrong in a romantic movie that includes time travel, Colin Farrell on a flying horse, Russell Crowe as a demon, and Will Smith as the Devil? Well, a lot actually. Winter’s Tale is a truly sappy bit of film with a lot of star power and a story that relies on manipulation rather than actual depth.

Jana B. here,

Book of Negroes

Lawrence Hill wrote a book that has two names. ‘The Book Of Negroes‘ is the Canadian title and ‘Someone Knows My Name‘ is the Americanized title. The base of the story is told through the eyes of Aminata Diallo. She is kidnapped from her South African home at the age of 11. She travels the ocean in captivity being sold into slavery in California. Like the book title, her name is changed once she gets into America, as well.

Film Review: ‘Thor: The Dark World’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 7th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

Thor-2_2709663b

And we’re back with the first non-Iron-Man sequel in the Marvel universe with ‘Thor: The Dark World‘, with the entire cast back ready for more saving the universe and defeating evil. However, this time around, the sequel felt uneasy and a little bit off, as it dragged in the mid-section quite a bit, or when Tom Hiddleston’s Loki (Thor’s adopted brother) is not on screen. Sure, the main event is Thor himself (Chris Hemsworth), but he seems to take a back seat for most of the film, as the co-stars really drive this movie as Thor smashes his hammer from foe to foe.

Film Review: ’12 Years A Slave’

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 24th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

john-legend-12-years-soundtrack-lead

There have been many films about slavery and the Civil War over the years. Only a couple have been good, and those have featured a big war in the storyline. But as far as a story strictly on slavery goes, the film count doesn’t have a lot of marks for great movies. With the exception of Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Django Unchained’, which was more a fantasy and revenge flick on slavery, british director Steve McQueen’s ’12 Years A Slave’ is a phenomenal film from top to bottom, yet it’s extremely rough to watch in certain parts due to the emotional content of the story. Chiwetel Ejiofor leads an all-star cast in one of the finest films in recent memory. One we won’t soon forget and will discuss with friends, families, strangers, and others for months to come.

Blu-Ray Review: ‘Iron Man 3’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 17th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

iron-man3

With ‘Iron Man 2‘ proving to be less than stellar back in 2010, this third sequel of the Marvelhero returns with a much needed boost of attitude and character that takes us through many twists and turns and tons of new Iron Man suits. This can be considered a sequel to both 2010′s ‘Iron Man‘ and Joss Whedon’s ‘The Avengers‘. Director Shane Black tosses away much of the wham-bam action scenes and focuses on the quick witted humor and our hero’s internal struggle with crippling panic attacks. I have no doubt this will be a fan favorite of the franchise.

Film Review: ‘R.I.P.D.’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 19th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

ripd_01

I’ve spoken with many people about their thoughts on seeing ‘R.I.P.D.‘ this weekend, and 9 out of 10 of them have said it looks terrible. In addition, I’ve heard a lot of studio people talking how this summer blockbuster that cost an estimated $130 million won’t even top out at $15 million this weekend. It’s a tough call as several movies come out this weekend, including a horror film that’s been generating a lot of good buzz. ‘R.I.P.D.‘, which is based on a Dark Horse comic series was surprisingly a lot of fun. Sure, it was silly stupid fun, but none-the-less, entertaining.
