Hi everyone, Bryan here….

HBO and the Duplass Brothers have come together to make an anthology series titled Room 104, which will have a brand new story each week, where the tone, theme, characters, and time period changing that all takes place in a room at a motel. Below is more information, but I can say that the trailer for this show looks quite good. I mean, it’s HBO, so what would be bad about it, right?

There are some things in the world that immediately give you a sense of comfort. A favorite book on a rainy afternoon, catching up with a childhood friend that makes up more than half of your memories, and Harrison Ford at the cineplex. We got another shot of comfort in 2008 with ‘Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull‘ and again this last year with ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens‘. There is a new documentary that is currently being made called ‘Haunters‘, which is being made by Jon Schnitzer. This documentary looks all sorts of fun as it looks to be the ultimate look inside how some of the scariest Haunted Houses are made across the country. I’m not talking about real haunted houses. I’m talking about the fun Haunted Houses that we all go to during the Halloween season. Some are truly scary and some are fairly laughable. ‘Haunters‘ seems to dive into how each haunted house is made, along with the costumes, make up effects, digital effects, and actors who make a living, performing in these scary houses.

Neil Patrick Harris Bringing Variety Show To NBC!!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Oct 27th, 2014

Hey guys, Jana here,

neil-patrick-harris-the-out-list-hbo

Depending on your age, when you hear the name Neil Patrick Harris, you either think of ‘How I Met Your Mother‘, or like me, it’s ‘Doogie Howser, M.D.‘ A 16 year old NPH stole the collective heart of girls everywhere when he played the prodigious child doctor. From that day forward, Harris would be a steady presence on TV. He appeared in numerous one-off series and made-for-TV movies that kept him in front of a camera just enough to make us want more. In addition to earning a spot that would cement his name, once again, in the annals of hit series with ‘How I Met Your Mother‘, he lent his voice to multiple animated ventures. NPH’s ever evolving resume led to a singing role as the title character in Joss Whedon’sDr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog‘. The thespian has hit the boards on Broadway in between his recorded projects and his most recent theatre stint was the titular part in ‘Hedwig and the Angry Inch‘ where he drew rave reviews from even the most staunch critics. Hedwig is now being played by Michael C. Hall.

The pair then took their work to Off-Broadway with Mitchell playing Hedwig and Trask as one of the band members. Alcon Entertainment has put out the offer to Harrison Ford to reprise his role as Rick Deckard from ‘Blade Runner‘, the hit sci-fi film from 1982 by director Ridley Scott. Movies have been moving to digital platforms for a long time. I still think back to the original movie collection I had when I became a total movie buff. I actually worked at a video rental store in high school called ‘The Movie Buff’. It was the greatest job in the world and set me up for a life-long fascination with film. Thinking back to that movie collection, I had over 450 VHS tapes. Over the years, I’ve had to get rid of them to make room for the newest platform of DVD’s. Way too many years later, I have no VHS tapes, but have tons of DVD’s and am now copying my collection over to a digital format.

Edward Norton Turns to ‘Motherless Brooklyn’!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Feb 21st, 2014

Jana B. here,

Edward Norton

Edward Norton is an exceptional and compelling actor, writer and filmmaker, and has decided on his next project. Well, he decided 15 years ago, it just took time to get his vision crystal clear before it could be put to celluloid. That time is now. What is this mysterious project, you ask? The film treatment of the Jonathan Lethem novel of critical acclaim, ‘Motherless Brooklyn‘. You know how you read a book and hope someone takes that vision and puts it directly onto screen? Don’t hold your breath for that happening with this novel. While taking the source material mostly straight across there are going to be some major changes. One of those changes is Lethem’s novel takes place in 1999, or at least contemporary New York. Norton is setting his story in 1954, a time of great change in the city.

Film Review: Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom’

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 16th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

la-et-mn-nelson-mandela-movie-release-date-201-001

There have been numerous films, television programs, and documentaries that have discussed the life of Nelson Mandela. Not too mention the treasure trove of books, biographies, and interviews you can read and watch detailing his beliefs and politics. And Justin Chadwick’s narrative film ‘Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom‘ is yet another addition to the ever expanding universe of Mandela. Adapted by William Nicholson from Mandela’s autobiography of the same name, this two and a half hour film seems like a long slow walk indeed, with too much to cover and some cheese sprinkled here and there. Although actor Idris Elba’s performance of Mandela is one of the best I’ve ever seen, this long walk could have been better.

There are certain types of entertainment where you can have several favorites. You can listen to multiple bands that fit into the same genre. But when it comes to performance magic, I believe you’re either a Copperfield or a David Blaine fan. Personally, I’m a David Copperfield girl, not the tortured waif. Yes, the one with the hair and the face. Him. So, I never jumped on the whole David Blaine band wagon. After all, there are only so many ‘David’s’ a girl can love.  While David Tennant takes up most of my space, David Copperfield occupies a portion. Anyhow, as I was saying.

If this is any pre-cursor to the Oscars, I’d be completely let down if ‘Argo‘ takes it all.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great film, but not the best film of the year.  I expect it to and want it to win the best adapted screenplay.  Just my opinion.  Below are the full results from last night’s show.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Geostorm’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 29th, 2018

THE FILM

Natural disaster films will always have a special place in my heart. Most of the time, they are over-the-top, ridiculous, and never make a lick of sense. Still, there is something entertaining in watching giant cities fall due to an alien invasion, a giant lizard, or is with the case of ‘Geostorm‘, extreme weather. No matter what the premise, these films usually have the same intentions and plot structure, which usually involves one hero guy to save the day, millions of casualties, hilarious one-liners, and enough insane plot tangents that would cause you to have a headache.

Film Review: mother!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 13th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

It’s been proven over the last two decades that filmmaker Darren Aronofsky makes movies his own way. He doesn’t bow down to Hollywood execs and never makes movies for the masses. Most people would fail with this tactic, but with Aronofsky, he wins awards and is met with critical acclaim. With films like Pi, Requiem for a Dream, Black Swan, and The Wrestler (I won’t mention Noah) – you can tell that Aronofsky doesn’t make tightly wrapped, happy movies with pretty little bows on them. I commend him for this, because he’s doing something that nobody else is doing.

Hey guys, Jana here,

The HBO/Sky Television co-production, under the banners of Sister Pictures and The Mighty Mint, of a five-part miniseries ‘Chernobyl‘ will begin filming next year in Lithuania. It will star Jared Harris and he has been cast as Valery Legasov, the Soviet scientist ordered by the Kremlin to investigate the accident. The project will be directed by Johan Renck (‘Breaking Bad‘) and written by Craig Mazin (‘The Huntsman: Winter’s War‘).

‘Westworld’ Season 2 Looks Bloodier Than Ever!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jul 23rd, 2017

Hey guys, Jana here,

Westworld isn’t your typical amusement park. Intended for rich vacationers, the futuristic park allows its visitors to live out their most primal fantasies with the robotic “hosts.” However, the robotic hosts have evolved an artificial consciousness that is similar to, yet diverges from, human consciousness. No matter how illicit the fantasy may be, there are no consequences for the park’s guests, allowing for any wish to be indulged; but there is a price to be paid.

The New GEOSTORM Trailer is Insanely Ridiculous!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 6th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

Geostorm is a new movie coming out from Warner Bros. that looks like every disaster movie mixed in with a presidential kidnapping with King Leonidas from 300, spartan kicking the weather down on Earth from his space station. I’m not kidding. This will either be the worst movie ever made or the best movie ever made. There will be no middle ground here.

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

I’m so excited for this. Warner Bros. has partnered with HBO and is releasing the first ever 4K UHD with HDR and Dolby Atmos when it comes to television box sets. I’m of course talking about the highly acclaimed and beloved West World Season One. Yes, this marks the first time a television series will be released on the format and what better way than with this epic series from HBO. Expect it on November 7th of this year with all 10 episodes in glorious HDR 4K and Dolby Atmos sound. There will also be a ton of bonus features too, which are listed out below. I can’t wait, because this might be the BEST TV release of the year. Now we need to get Game of Thrones in 4K.

The ‘GeoStorm’ Trailer is Here!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 8th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

Screen Shot 2017-03-08 at 1.53.42 PM

.In what looks to be the absolute WORST film of the last five years, ‘GEOSTORM‘ finally has a trailer. What is ‘GeoStorm‘ exactly? First off, let me just say that this film was supposed to come out a couple of years ago, but keeps getting pushed back – for obvious reasons. Mainly because, it looks like a giant SHIT-STORM of Epic proportions. This film is directed by Dean Devlin who really hasn’t done a directing gig, but rather produced the ‘Independence Day‘ films. So take that information and replace alien invasions with giant tornados, tsunamis, and snowballs the size of Mt. Rushmore hurling into skyscrapers.

Film Review: ‘Certain Women’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 27th, 2016

Violet O, here…

screen-shot-2016-10-27-at-5-40-54-pm

Certain Women‘ opened on a very long, mostly silent, incredibly slow scene of a train traveling the countryside. Unfortunately, this proved to be the pace of action and level of excitement throughout the entire 107min film. This movie attempts to tell three completely unrelated stories of three different women (Laura Dern, Michelle Williams and Lily Gladstone) living in rural Montana. The only commonality that I could find between these stories is their lack of direction and level of awkwardness.

I must admit that I have not read the Stephen Elliot memoir that this is based on.  I can’t judge much as far as the worth of the book or if the plot is better suited for the written word, however, I must say I found this a bit underwhelming.

Film Review: ‘The Man From U.N.C.L.E.’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 11th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

Henry-Cavill-Armie-Hammer-Alicia-Vikander-in-The-Man-From-UNCLE-2015-movie

The latest Hollywood remake to hit theaters is the hit tv show from the mid-60’s ‘The Man From U.N.C.L.E.‘, which lasted four seasons and was partially developed by Ian Fleming just as the James Bond franchise was taking off. If you were alive during the mid-60s, you would have known that this ‘U.N.C.L.E.‘ television series was one of the best things on tv at the time, as it centered on an American spy and a Russian spy, working together to take out the bad guys in a very 007 kind of way.

Film Review: ‘Poltergeist 2015’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 22nd, 2015

Janet W., Here…

Poltergeist-2015-trailer-image-3

Horror, according to Webster: Something that causes feelings of fear, dread, and shock.

Someone should have enlightened the production team of this definition prior to their exploring the “re-imaging” (not remake) of this staple of the horror film genre.  I would not expect real horror in this film.  You will get a Scary Movie version of cheesy horror.  Everything in the 2015 version of Poltergeist is topsy-turvy from its 1982 predecessor.  The Freelings (1982) give way to the Bowens (2015).  Fear, suspense, and horror give way to one-liners and gratuitous special effects.

Film Review: ‘Run All Night’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 13th, 2015

Janet W., Here…

Run All Night Movie (2)

Darkness gives way to a misty lake.  From above we close in on an injured man sprawled out on the ground.  Jimmy is floating in and out of consciousness…a voiceover speaks on what goes through the mind of the near dead and suddenly he hears a gunshot, a curious opening and introduction of Jimmy Conlon (Liam Neeson).  Jimmy is a former mob hit man that has become an island to himself through his long history of foul play.  Estranged from Jimmy is his only child, Mike Conlon (Joel Kinnaman).  Mike is a husband, father, and big brother/boxing coach, respectable personas that Jimmy forsook long ago.  Finding himself caught in the web of a murderous cokehead, Danny Maguire (Boyd Holbrook), and his mob boss father, Shawn Maguire (Ed Harris), Mike turns to the last person he ever wanted to rely on, Jimmy.  Run All Night takes the viewer on a crossing of evading death and the bonding of two hearts.

Here is our 32nd episode of ‘The Multi-Media Men‘, and we are back from a two week hiatus from covering the Dallas Film Festival.  We recorded this 32nd podcast on Easter Sunday morning in Dallas, TX, and were missing a couple of regulars. However, we were joined by Susan Kamyab of ‘This Chix Flix‘ and ‘Irving Community Television‘ this weekend and she made an excellent addition to the podcast. And since we are back from our small break, what better way to celebrate than with one of our infamous ReCast segments. We went ahead and did it. We ReCast ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show‘, which is one of the best films of all time. There is no way we can replace any of the actors aboard here, but we know that MTV wants to remake it and in this day and age, it is more likely to happen than not. So here are some of our suggestions on who should play which role? Do you agree with us?  And please let us know what you think by going to our FACEBOOK page, which you should visit to catch up on all the latest information. And don’t forget to visit iTunes and Stitcher to subscribe to our podcast. Enjoy the show.

Film Review: ‘Pain & Gain’ !!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 25th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

pain-and-gain-poster-final

Michael Bay made a film for $25 million over the past year. This is a budget that he hasn’t had since  his first film ‘Bad Boys‘ in 1995. Between then and now, he has epic $100 million dollar budgets and is known for his horrible filmmaking and amazing explosions and car chases. The $25 million movie in question is called ‘Pain & Gain‘ and is a true story as it tells us on screen, which is very difficult to believe while watching what happens during its two hour run time.

Hollywood is Remaking ‘Ben-Hur’!!

MGM is back in business.  With its success from ‘Skyfall‘ and ‘The Hobbit‘, the once bankrupt studio is rolling in the dough and is purchasing a project, which is a remake of ‘Ben-Hur‘ from 1959 that starred Charlton Heston. Keith Clarke wrote the spec script, which he has done a couple documentaries and a narrative film called ‘The Way Back‘, which starred Colin Farrell, Jim Sturgess, and Ed Harris.

Film Review: ‘Lincoln’

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 8th, 2012

FedMex Here….

Steven Spielberg is one of the most respected directors of our time. Naturally, when it was announced that he would be directing a biographical film of Abraham Lincoln, we were all pretty excited. This excitement was further elevated when we discovered that Daniel Day-Lewis would be cast as Lincoln himself.  To add to all those big names, throw in “you really like me” Sally Field, notoriously cranky Tommy Lee Jones (as Thaddeus  Stevens), and super talented dreamboat Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and I mean, how could this possibly go wrong?

Hi, Bryan Here….

Below is the list of the winners for the 2012 Prime-Time Emmy Award Winners.  I don’t  see how ‘Modern Family’ and ‘Two and Half Men’ win anything.  They shouldn’t win any kind of award when they go up against shows like ‘Mad Men’, ‘Game of Thrones’, and ‘Breaking Bad’.  The Emmy judges need to be fired and never allowed to pick winners ever again.  However, much congratulations to ‘Homeland’, ‘Downton Abbey’, Aaron Paul, ‘Veep’, and ‘American Horror Story’

I believe Liam Neesan, Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, and Ed Harris lend their voices for narrating.

The set usually cost about $100 dollars and for today it is only  $34.99.  Pretty great deal.

Sherlock Holmes 2 Casting News: Moriarty

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 28th, 2010

Sherlock Holmes 2 is about to be underway and Guy Ritchie has found his Moriarty.  Jared Harris will play the arch enemy to Sherlock.

Jared Harris can be found on the AMC tv series Mad Men as the character Lane Pryce.

Jared is a phenomenal actor and I think will play a great Moriarty.  Stephen Fry was cast a week ago as Sherlock’s older brother Mycroft Holmes.

This is shaping up to be a great sequel.

Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law will be reprising their roles.

Film Review: ‘Rampage’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 11th, 2018

There really isn’t any point in denying that Dwayne The Rock Johnson is the biggest movie star in Hollywood right now, but he might also be the best. Nobody, except early Will Smith, can star in, sell, and market a movie the way he can. His power to entertain audiences with ridiculous premises is undeniable. Rampage is stupid, big, and insane, but it’s also obnoxiously entertaining and a joy to watch.

Jana’s Best of 2017!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jan 1st, 2018

Hey guys, Jana here,

I know these “Best of 2017” lists should technically be published in 2017, but why would I start 2018 any differently than I lived the majority of my adult life: Procrastinating and underachieving. What can I say? That’s my wheelhouse.

For a year that put a spotlight on some of the shittiest behavior by some of the Hollywood elite, it was actually a good year for TV and movies. I didn’t limit myself in number because as I moved on with the brackets, I felt like I was making ‘Sophie’s Choice‘ on some of these, so they’re all getting in! I’m feeling my inner-Oprah here, You’ve made the list! You made the list! EVERYBODY made the list!! In order to spare myself any arguments, I’m stating up front that my picks for the “Best of 2017” are not edited in regards to scandal or hideous human behavior.

4K UHD Review: ‘Cars 3’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 8th, 2017

THE FILM

This film review portion was written by Jodi York.

I wasn’t sure how well a midlife crisis plot line was going to play with my 10 & 12 year old viewing companions, but they both gave Cars 3 the thumbs up!  Surprisingly, Harrison said that he really enjoyed that this was a ‘comeback story.’

There were a number of new characters introduced in this film.  Jaquelin, who has a need for speed, said she liked the way the new, high tech racers looked; but what we all relished the most was the scenes with the ‘old timer’ racing cars, which Lightning McQueen sought out to try and get his racing mojo back after a big crash.  There were numerous flashbacks with Doc Hudson (McQueen’s late mentor), and this was a big hit with us.  We all appreciated McQueen’s journey into Doc’s past, reviewing Doc’s career; meeting and training with his mentor, Smokey; and learning that Doc’s greatest pride & joy came not from racing himself, but from training McQueen.

The Ryan Gosling Jacket Investigation!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 13th, 2017

Written By: Dan Moran….

There have been tweets and style articles written about Ryan Gosling’s jackets over the past year, but after seeing Blade Runner 2049 last night, are we sure he’s ever read a script? Would it really be so ridiculous to assume that almost every role that Ryan Gosling has ever played was based on his agent just laying two jackets out and Ryan deciding which one was better? More importantly, is Ryan Gosling even a good actor? Are we sure his jackets aren’t giving him this power?

An investigation has been opened.

Before I Fall, based on the novel written by Lauren Oliver, opens with an out of focus shot of Samantha Kingston (Zoey Deutch). Sam, as she is affectionately called, is for all intents and purposes, perfect.  She is pretty, dates the best looking jock, and is part of the top clique in the school. Four friends, Sam (Deutch), Lindsay (Halston Sage), Ally Harris (Cynthy Wu), and Elody (Medalion Rahimi), ruling the school, doing everything together, and partying hard are the ingredients of your typical high school drama. Next, the viewer is inundated with a montage of the people in her world beginning their days in different ways. Epic List Of The Top 10 Road Trip Flicks!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jul 3rd, 2016

Hey guys, Jana here,

tumblr_nx5wmzgYvb1qewpgqo1_500

Summer means a lot to me, there’s baseball, which I waxed pretty poetic about in last week’s Top 10 Baseball Movies post. There’s fishing, the fourth of July, a multi-colored tongue from Otter Pops, and the all important road trip. Your trip can be a short jaunt to the lake or it can be a days long event that usually culminates in an epic destination – Wally World, anyone? Whether you trip on your own, with your friends or with your family, there’s something wonderful about having a full tank of gas, a stereo full of tunes and the open road in front of you. Depending on who you’re with it can either feel like a hostage situation or a relaxing break from the weekly drag. Most good road trips feel like a bit of both, not to mention the longing for the comfort that is your home toilet.

I’m gonna count down my top 10 movies that feature a road trip. Strap in, kick on the A/C and let the lull of the road below you relaxes your worries. This was not an easy list to winnow down to only 10 with a few honorable mentions. I left off the obvious ‘Thelma and Louise‘, they’re best friends, they kill someone and drive off a cliff. Yeah, I didn’t give you a spoiler alert there because if you haven’t seen this movie by now, you were never going to. Some road trip movies are better than others and we had differing opinions from each other making this list. So read along and tell me where we agree or disagree or what I’ve left out.

It’s just as pure as mom’s apple pie and the star spangled banner and every spring, a new season swings into action and a new hope is born for your team to be a contender and play through October. The national past time has been the basis for a lot of movies and I’m making some sense of them all with my Top 10 favorite baseball movies.

Hey guys, Jana here,

MANHATTAN NIGHT BD OCARD 3D

Based on Colin Harrison’s acclaimed novel ‘Manhattan Nocturne‘ (a New York Times Notable Book of the Year), ‘Manhattan Night‘ tells the story of Porter Wren (Adrien Brody), a New York City tabloid writer with an appetite for scandal. On the beat he sells murder, tragedy and anything that passes for the truth. At home he is a model family man, devoted to his loving wife (Jennifer Beals). But when a seductive stranger (Yvonne Strahovski) asks him to dig into the unsolved murder of her filmmaker husband Simon (Campbell Scott), he can’t resist. In this modern version of a classic film noir, we follow Porter as he is drawn into a very nasty case of sexual obsession and blackmail – one that threatens his job, his marriage, and his life.

Hey guys, Jana here,

twilightzone-the-twilight-zone-oscars-jpeg-29279

Lately, there has been a rash of remakes  of our favorite television series being adapted to feature films, but not too many that are simply re-making a TV series as another TV series. One that is doing that in recent memory is ‘Star Trek‘. CBS is planning to give us another incarnation of that beloved franchise that began in 1966 and has occasionally sprouted a new series while clinging to the rules and locations of the past. As of today, ‘Star Trek‘ isn’t alone, for this another show that will join it in this whole remake genre – ‘The Twilight Zone‘.

by Red Zeppelbon on Apr 4th, 2016

Hey guys, Jana here,

blade-runner

Where ever you know him from, one thing is certain, the man has a palpable presence on-screen. I’d bet this is part of the reason he has been chosen for a high-profile sequel, and I’m not talking about his part in Guardians 2, this time it’s for ‘Blade Runner‘.
