Criterion Blu-ray Review: ‘Dekalog’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 2nd, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

THE FILM

It’s very rare that a film has such a profound effect on you that you can’t get it out of your head for days. I love discussing all movies, from the latest indie art-house film to the latest blood and guts horror fest to the animated comedies of Pixar, and even old classics from the 1930s and forward. Rarely though, does a film leave me thinking about it for days on end and make me contemplate life and myself and the decisions I have made that had me end up right here. One of those films was Claude Lanzmann’s ‘Shoah’, which put me on an emotional downward spiral for a while. It made me look at myself, us as a people, history, and what makes us tick. It’s a film that deserves its own category and awards, because there is nothing else like it and there never will be.

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

CriterionLogoCovers

After a two week vacation, The Multi-Media Men are back with the 35th episode that covers all things in the entertainment industry. We had a full house this time around with myself Bryan Kluger, Adam Conway from the Angelika Film Center, Gadi Elkon from Selig Film News, Andrew Conway, Gwen Reyes from Fresh Fiction, and Susan Kamyab from This Chix Flix. It was a lot of fun to say the least. As usual, we start off each episode with some sort of Top 3 list, and this 35th episode is no different. We decided to come up with some movies that Criterion should consider adding to their ever impressive collection. There are some excellent suggestions here along with some ideas for great bonus features. If you are unfamiliar with Criterion, check them out HERE. Basically, they are like the Neiman Marcus of home video. Criterion has the best video and audio transfers in the business and generally has the best bonus features in town. Not to mention that almost all of their films are five-star movies. So here is what we think Criterion should release in the coming year or so. Let us know  if you agree or missed anything. And please let us know what you think by going to our FACEBOOK page, which you should visit to catch up on all the latest information. by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 24th, 2014

Hi, Bryan Here….

criterion

Here we our with out 30th podcast. I can’ve believe we are at 30 weeks already. This is a milestone for our little podcast.  As usual, we always start out with some sort of list. For the 30th week, we decided to discuss the best Criterion Collection Titles of all time. Now what is a Criterion Collection Title, you ask? Criterion is like the Neiman Marcus of home video. They have the best extras, the best audio and video presentations, and choose films for their collection that are culturally important and significant. We had some pretty amazing picks, which at times we had to restrain ourselves from stopping the podcast and watching one of these films. It was a lot of fun.  And please let us know, what you think by going to our FACEBOOK page, which you should visit to catch up on all the latest information. And don’t forget to visit iTunes and Stitcher and subscribe to our podcast. Enjoy the show.

Criterion Collection Titles For December 2012!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 17th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

The good folks over at Criterion have just announced their titles for December, 2012.  There are some really cool titles for December.  One  title I have waited for years to own on criterion.  Another title is actually Christopher Nolan’s first film, ‘Following’, which is very exciting.  If this is any indication, we might get future Nolan films on Criterion sooner than later, which means a possible Dark Knight Criterion. After all, with Criterion, most director’s who get a film in at Criterion, tend to get more of their films in that pot.   So here’s hoping.  Sadly, no announcement of ‘Good Burger’ or any of the Ernest movies yet, but hopefully in the year 2013, we will get at least one of those.  I can’t wait until December now.  Thanks, Criterion.  Thanks.

Hi, Bryan Here….

Criterion knocked this release out of the park.  I;m not surprised.  Criterion is the Neiman Marcus of home video releases.  And, with their Hollis Frampton Odyssey bluray, they don’t disappoint.  I would imagine, only film buffs and film majors know who Hollis Frampton is.  If you don’t know who he is, if you love cinema, experimentation, and art, then you will instantly fall in love with Frampton’s films.  Frampton is the godfather of digital art, and this bluray shows you why he got that name.  Simply phenomenal.  This disc gets my highest recommendation.

Hi, Bryan Here….

Martin Scorsese’s ‘The Last Temptation of Christ’ is a beautiful, creative, and unique look into the life of Jesus.  Criterion rolls out the red carpet again with this blu-ray version  with top of the line video and audio presentations, some decent extras, and one hell of a film.  This is spine #70 and I highly recommend this bluray.  Definitely worth the upgrade if you already have it.

Hi Bryan Here….

Luis Bunuel’s ‘Belle de Jour’ is a fantastic sensual odyssey that I enjoyed immensely.  Catherine Deneuve is just radiant and amazing in the lead role.  Criterion really rolled out the red carpet with this release.  The video and audio presentations are fantastic and the extras are very good.  If you are a fan of the beautiful Catherine Deneuve and or an intense tale of sexual fantasy and fetish, then this movie is for you.  I just love this movie and it will make a great addition to your criterion section.
