Christian Bale Exits the Steve Jobs Project!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Nov 3rd, 2014

Hey guys, Jana here,

christian_bale_steve_jobs_a_l

Last week we brought you news that Seth Rogen was joining the Danny Boyle project to play Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak opposite Christian Bale’s Steve Jobs. Bale came to the conclusion that he felt he was not right for the part and has withdrawn.

Hey guys, Jana here,

Steve Jobs is the topic of another biopic project. This time around Christian Bale is going to play the legendary genius opposite Seth Rogen’s Steve Wozniak. Bale and Rogen are shoring up a cast that will possibly include Jessica Chastain in an unspecified role.  Alone, Jobs and Wozniak were brilliant, but together the tech world would never be the same once they launch Apple. Writer Aaron Sorkin has adapted Walter Isaacson’s biography, ‘Steve Jobs‘ for Sony. Oscar-Winning director Danny Boyle (‘Trainspotting‘, ‘Slumdog Millionaire‘) is leading the life story. David Fincher was originally attached as director but his demands of a $10 Million salary and full creative control was not met by the studio.

Christian Bale to Play Steve Jobs?!?!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 15th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

Steve-Jobs-Stamp

Don’t worry. If you were wanting more biopics about Steve Jobs, the founder of Apple Computers, then you’re in luck. Recently, Sony is making yet another Steve Jobs pic and as of a week or so ago, Leonardo DiCaprio was set to play Jobs. But talks fell through and DiCaprio is no longer set to star. But don’t fret, Sony has someone else in mind. And that person is a superhero.

Move over, Ashton Kutcher! He may have Mila Kunis, but he does not hold a monopoly on playing Steve Jobs.  Jobs was an American entrepreneur, marketer, and inventor, who was the co-founder, chairman, and CEO of Apple Inc. His name is interchangeable with other greats in the industry Bill Gates, Steve Wozniak and Tim Cook

4K UHD Review: ‘The Dark Knight Rises’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 2nd, 2018

THE FILM

The threats of terrorism, war, chaos, and financial ruin are all too real these days.  ’The Dark Knight Rises’ dives into these issues on a massive scale, which makes any film in the Marvel universe look like mere “child’s play” (no reference to a knife-wielding murderous doll).  Compared with the other Batman movies, everything is bigger in ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ and there is so much more at stake.  Not one second of this film is wasted, the writing and direction is straight to the point, cohesive, and comes across as totally fulfilling in its 164 minute run-time.

4K UHD Review: ‘Batman Begins’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 2nd, 2018

THE FILM

Since 1989, we were thrilled to have Batman movies. In 1989, we received are first big budget Batman film from newcomer director at the time Tim Burton. It went onto be a box office sensation and spawned three more sequels, which became increasingly worse and silly. By the time the 4th film got around, it was more like watching a slapstick cartoon than anything good or resembling Batman. In fact, the franchise became a joke. Then came along Christopher Nolan who made his trilogy of Batman films, starting with ‘Batman Begins‘, which told a much darker and realistic side of the Dark Knight. The results were astounding on both critical and box office fronts.

4K UHD Review: ‘The Dark Knight’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 2nd, 2018

THE FILM

The Dark Knight‘ is one of those rare instances where the sequel is even better that it’s previous original movie. I would say that this film is perhaps one of the greatest, if not the greatest superhero film of all time so far. In addition to that, it’s just a fantastic film itself that can compete with any movie out there. This sequel picks up with Batman in the prime of his justice restoring and bringing criminals to jail. Christian Bale is better than ever here as Batman and we see how him being the caped crusader is taking a toll both physically and mentally on him. He still manages to come through though each time. But soon enough, comes The Joker, played flawlessly by Heath Ledger.

4K UHD Review: 3:10 to Yuma!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 1st, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

515KUw8h2dL

THE FILM

Filmmaker James Mangold has certainly made a name for himself in the Western genre of cinema with the likes of 3:10 To Yuma and more recently Logan. The guy knows how to tell a thrilling story set in the old west as we’ve seen before. Prior to this 2007 version of the film, author Elmore Leonard (Jackie Brown, Get Shorty), wrote a short story, which was adapted into a 1957 film called 3:10 To Yuma. Mangold thought it would serve as a great remake in these modern times and he wasn’t wrong, while he added a few new story conflicts to this great 2007 version.

If done right, who doesn’t appreciate a muscular war film decorated with a cherry of passion on top? Based on true events, ‘The Promise,’ directed by Academy Award winning filmmaker Terry George (Hotel Rwanda), had the capacity to convey a burning love story intertwined with the real Armenian genocide during World War I. However, inspired thematic violence and even Christian Bale can’t guarantee your film’s success.

Some people love his films. Some hate his films. No matter which side of the spectrum you’re on, you have to agree that every one of Terrence Malick’s films look exquisitely beautiful. With movies like ‘Tree of Life‘, ‘Knight of Cups‘, ‘The Thin Red Line‘, ‘Badlands‘, and ‘Days of Heaven‘, you can’t help but become entranced in the story, characters, and visual spectacle of Malick’s filmmaking process. His past few films have mostly shown a variety of characters who rarely say anything on screen, but instead narrate the movie as it goes along, giving a better visual masterpiece of cinema than a dialogue driven movie.

Film Review: ‘Knight of Cups’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 9th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

maxresdefault

There are two types of people in this world. Those who love Terrence Malick films and those who don’t. I tend to be the former in all aspects, from his films ‘Days of Heaven‘, ‘Badlands‘, and ‘The Thin Red Line‘. Recently, Malick has become more experimental with his filmmaking, with the amazing ‘Tree of Life‘ and ‘To the Wonder‘. Malick hasn’t been telling traditional narratives in a sense of the standard Hollywood formula, but rather has told a story with very little dialogue exchanged between characters as they walk through cityscapes and nature with a narrator voice over, detailing a stream of consciousness.

Say what you will, but director Terrence Malick is brilliant. I love all of his films. He has a unique eye and lens that perfectly captures life and people. With films like ‘Days of Heaven‘, ‘Badlands‘, ‘The Thin Red Line‘, and ‘Tree of Life‘, you can tell that Malick is one of the better filmmakers still working today. His new film ‘Knight of Cups‘ looks beautiful, but I wish it was a mix of some sort of beer pong and LARPing. Could you imagine Malick doing something like that? I wish. Here is the new trailer for the film, which looks to have a great cast and releases March 4th.

Film Review: ‘The Revenant’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 7th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

the-revenant-fn01

Could this finally be the year for Leonardo DiCaprio to take home that Oscar gold? It very well could be for his performance in ‘The Revenant‘. This is a movie that went through a few directors and actors before it landed on the ‘Birdman‘ director Alejandro G. Inarritu and Leo. At one point the studio wanted Park Chan-wook (‘Oldboy‘) to direct Samuel L. Jackson in the film, but that all fell through. Then the film went to John Hillcoat to direct Christian Bale in the film, before landing on Inarritu and DiCaprio.

We all remember the horrible times from 2007-2010 with all that went on with the housing crises and stock market crash. This was all due to the major banks and loan officers, giving people bad loans no matter what their income situation was. Christian Bale just got a character description with no lines, some characters received lines with the option to use any or all they desired. Ten Great Lesser-Known Films Starring Big Name Actors!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 7th, 2015

You might find yourself reading the following list, thinking “Hey! I’ve seen all these movies! How dare you claim them to be ‘lesser-known’!” My response to you, should you say such a thing, is “congratulations.” You see, just because you are a film nut like me, doesn’t mean that the rest of the populace is. The following is a list of ten good films with big-named actors that somehow slipped under the general radar. I’m not saying they are completely unknown, but based upon ticket sales, it certainly seems like they slipped the notice of the general public. These are all solid films that, should you enjoy these actors, you definitely want to check them out (the films, not the actors – although to each their own, I guess).

John Cusack Enters the Wall Street World!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Mar 29th, 2014

Hello, Jana here,

John Cusack with a serious expression wearing a suit and tie

When you set a series in the world of Wall Street, you need characters colorful enough to not get lost in the atmosphere. Take ‘The Wolf of Wall Street‘, for example, Leonardo DiCaprio’s portrayal of Jordan Belfort was larger than life. He had to be outrageous to stand out in the fast-paced, high-stakes land of the almighty dollar. Christian Bale’s version of Patrick Bateman from ‘American Psycho‘ stands out just as much. Granted, these personalities are not what you would assume to be the norm for traders working on Wall Street, but the ambience definitely fosters these type of personalities.

Jana B. here,

Rob Zombie

Rob Zombie and Bret Easton Ellis are teaming up with Alcon Television to develop a project for Fox that takes us back to the morbid and attention grabbing incidents surrounding the Manson Family and the murder spree that ensued in August of 1969. Some of us may not have been alive during that time, but if you pay any attention at all to current events you have probably seen the different appeals and hearings for release some of the members have gone through since then. I know the history inside and out but it’s just because I’m a little different than normal people. I am fascinated by serial killers and have read everything on the subject I can get my hands on. At one point, I wanted to be a Psychiatrist that specialized in serial killer tracking…just like Alex Cross from the James Patterson novels. I didn’t end up doing that, but I still read or watch everything on the subject. Some nights I sleep with a baseball bat under the bed , each night I’m grateful for the shotgun that is less than 5 feet from me.

Bryan’s Film Review: ‘American Hustle’!!

Hi, Bryan Here….

Formally titled ‘American Bullshit‘, director David O. Russell has generated a lot of buzz for this film over the last few months. Coming off his Oscars for ‘Silver Linings Playbook‘ and ‘The Fighter‘, you might think ‘American Hustle‘ might be on par with his previous two films. While this movie is indeed great, it lacks any sort of depth or meaning that  Russell has embraced in his previous efforts. But what he lacks in depth and meaning, he makes up ten fold in acting, characters, and insanity. I have no doubt that this 1970’s comedy con-artist film will wow audiences with its comedy and sex appeal, but don’t expect a “think piece” here. With tons of other choices this holiday season, it’s difficult to say how this will do at the box office, but with an A-List cast and the amount of hype this has, I imagine decent returns.

Film Review: ‘Out of The Furnace’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 5th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here…

out-of-the-furnace-harrelson-bale-0782013-101738

Scott Cooper’s second film ‘Out of The Furnace‘ has a lot going for it. The script and especially its amazing A-List cast might draw out a decent crowd, but a sour taste might be left in your mouth after the end credits start to roll. Cooper’s first film was ‘Crazy Heart‘ and had some similar somber tones to it as this film does, but it’s nowhere near how brutal ‘Out of the Furnace‘ truly is. But what makes this blue-collar flick ultimately suffer is the amount of filler that has nothing to do with actual premise of the movie and keep the film from moving forward at a steady pace.

Hi, Bryan Here….

christian_bale_american_psycho_by_lord_iluvatar

Break out your business cards and Huey Lewis albums, because everyone’s favorite CEO and serial killer is back. This time on stage in a musical. This coming December at the Almeida Theatre in London, Patrick Bateman will wreak havoc once again onstage in ‘American Psycho‘ the musical. Based on one of the greatest novels of all time by Bret Easton Ellis, this adaptation of ‘American Psycho‘ was written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, composed by Duncan Sheik, and directed by Rupert Goold, who are all A-List talent in their fields.

The ‘Justice League’ Movie Just Got Interesting!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 4th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

url-2

The good folks over at Latino Review have posted a bit of information that a lot of you will find exciting. It seems that Warner Bros., of course will be handling the ‘Justice League‘ film, but we have reported a few times on potential directors, producers, writers, and which superheroes would be in the first film. Needless to say, DC and Warner have been very tight lipped about anything ‘Justice League‘, as they are keeping the focus on their upcoming Superman film ‘Man of Steel‘, which we hear is the best movie of the year.

Blu-Ray Review: ‘The Dark Knight Rises’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 16th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here…..

91t42AGU92L._AA1500_

Christopher Nolan’s third and final installment of his Batman franchise ranks as the best film in the series.  That’s difficult for me to say, as the first two films were so amazing.  Even with Heath Ledger’s iconic and eternal role as the Joker in the previous film, ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ far surpasses anything my imagination could have hoped for in film.  Movies do not get better than ’The Dark Knight Rises’.

Film Review: ‘Alex Cross’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 18th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

‘Alex Cross’ was such a let down. James Patterson’s novel or novels about a clever cop did not adapt well to this particular film.  I feel like this movie could have been 100 times better than it was.  I think it was in the wrong hands from start to finish and it just completely imploded on itself.  Maybe this will make money in the box office due to Tyler Perry’s fan-base wanting to see something completely different from the actor than what he normally does, but I don’t see people giving a second though, or really even a first thought while watching this poorly made movie.

FedMex Here….

So Christopher Nolan has finally completed his Batman Trilogy, and yes, you’ve heard correctly, it is quite likely one of the best trilogies ever made. It’s up to Star Wars levels of good, and let me tell you why.Christopher Nolan gave us three films, an origin story, a suspenseful thriller, and an EPIC conclusion.  It’s very difficult to write this without going into spoilers, but here’s what I can safely say without giving anything away.

Hi Bryan Here…..

Over at UK’S Empire Magazine, Tom Hardy and Christopher Nolan speak about the villain Bane from the upcoming Batman: The Dark Knight Rises.  Hardy talks about playing Bane while Nolan talks about Hardy playing Bane.  Hardy was an excellent choice for this role.  From what little I’ve seen from the trailers and stills, this third Batman film will be epic.  Read the exchange below.

Hi Bryan Here….

We have a new weekly column here at Boomstick with our newest writer.  Sparky Shagwell is her name and she is the tortured step daughter of the Queen of England.  She spends most of her time watching re-runs of ‘Perfect Strangers’, eating chili with crumbled Oreos mixed in, and plotting her takeover of the Royal Family.  But in her spare time she loves the ABC Family hit series ‘Pretty Little Liars’.  She will be giving her expert opinion and review for each episode over the coming weeks.  Please give Sparky Shagwell a warm welcome and enjoy her hilarious coverage of ‘Pretty Little Liars’.  Enjoy.  We are happy to have her on board.

“The Fighter” Trailer is up in Glorious Quicktime

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 16th, 2010

Director David O. Russell (Three Kings, I Heart Huckabees) has a new movie called “The Fighter” starring Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale, and Amy Adams.

The synopsis: “The Fighter” is a drama about boxing champ “Irish” Micky Ward and his half-brother Dicky, a boxer-turned-trainer who rebounded after nearly being destroyed by drugs and crime.”

This looks to be an Oscar contender and one of the better boxing movies to come out in a while.

According to IMDB, David O. Russell is slated to direct the adaptation to “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies starring Natalie Portman.  Cool.

Hey guys, Jana here,

American_Psycho_Musical

Ever hear of two things that shouldn’t go together but end up working? A bit of chocolate in your homemade chili, Kevin Youkilis  as a Yankee, Catherine ZetaJones and Michael Douglas? OK, well maybe not them so much, anymore, but you get my point. ‘American Psycho‘ – the book by Bret Easton Ellis that made a 2000 movie with Christian Bale, evolved into a musical? Yup, you read that one right. Off-Broadway theater company, Second Stage is going to present the U.S. premiere. This has been discussed and debated, but ultimately it’s happened and coming to America next!

Bryan’s Top 20 Films of 2012!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 31st, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

I can’t believe that 2012 is at its end and we are about to welcome 2013.  This year has gone by so fast, and man, did I see tons of films.  When I started making this 2012 list, I came up with 87 films that I enjoyed.  Yes, you read that right, 87, meaning there were probably just as many films that I didn’t enjoy.  Now, below is my top 20 of the year. I just couldn’t do it with 10 this year.  And these are films that I watched in the theater or at home and that don’t necessarily come out this year, but I did see this year.  And I’m sure I’ll get a lot of criticism for my list, but hey this is my list, not yours.  You can have your own.  But my lists tend to be different than most people’s as you can tell from my previous lists HERE. So without any further delay, below is my TOP 20 films for 2012.

Hi, Bryan Here….

This is definitely not the type of new I want to share on a Friday, but it needs to be said.  About 20 minutes into the midnight showing of ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ at a Century 16 Theatre in Aurora, CO, a gunmen opened fire in the theatre on the audience and killed 12 people and injured 38.

Hi Bryan Here….

The past two Batman films have been filmed in the Chicago area and they have looked phenomenal there.  It actually looked like what I picture Gotham to be.  It was beautiful and haunting all at the same time.  Now, Nolan has announced that he will film the third Batman film “The Dark Knight Rises” in Pittsburgh.
