by Red Zeppelbon on Nov 7th, 2015

Hey guys, Jana here,

Chloe-Grace-Moretz-07

The latest in the litany of film tendencies is the hugely popular live-action fairy tale. While Disney may have made a mint on pioneering the genre, they’re not the only film company to have made the jump. Working Title and Universal are working the prototype and their next title receiving the live-action treatment is ‘The Little Mermaid‘.

4K UHD Review: ‘Kick-Ass’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 2nd, 2017

THE FILM

Back in 2008, Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. created a new comic book that was kick-ass, that they in fact named it ‘Kick-Ass‘. It was basically Spider-Man if Spider-Man had no superpowers and was had a hardcore R rating. The amount of creative energy, violence, comedy, and character development that went into the comic was magical as it was entertaining and wonderful. Millar just had a way with words and story plot that made this comic book called ‘Kick-Ass‘ solid gold. It was to nobody’s surprise that only two years later, we got a feature film directed by Matthew Vaughn (Layer Cake, X-Men: First Class, Kingsman) and produced by Brad Pitt, that ignited a new breed of R rated superhero films.

Film Review: ‘Neighbors 2’!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 18th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

0002-neighbors-2-ew_0

It’s rare when a comedy sequel works on all levels. With sequels, you’d hope the original cast comes back and there is a good balance of returning and new jokes and plot devices to make it stand on its own without doing the same recycled material as the original. With the case of ‘Neighbors‘, you had a pretty great cast with Seth Rogen, Rose Byrne, Zac Efron, Dave Franco, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse, in an ‘R’ rated comedy about a couple with a newborn baby, trying to raise a family next to a frat house. It was a solid premise with a lot of funny moments. The small budget film of only $18 million went on to make over $270 million at the box office.

Gillian Flynn wrote three books: Sharp Objects, Dark Places and Gone Girl. She has a very distinct writing style and the books are filled with a darkness and a narrative that is riveting and disturbing and draws you in. It’s what makes her books so enjoyable and so suspenseful.

Could There Be A Hit Girl Prequel?!?!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jun 18th, 2015

Hey guys, Jana here,

big-daddy-and-hit-girl-1

There could be more ‘Kick-Ass‘ awesome heading our way according to film writer/director Matthew Vaughn. Of course I’m talking about the comic creation by Mark Millar that consists of average teenager turned vigilante superhero-wannabe Dave Lizewski who later becomes Kick-Ass and teams up with the father/daughter duo of Hit-Girl and Big Daddy.

Film Review: ‘Clouds of Sils Maria’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 24th, 2015

Janet W., Here…

o-CLOUDS-OF-SILS-facebook

Clouds of Sils Maria opens as Maria Enders (Juliette Binoche), an accomplished actress, is headed to Zurich to accept an award on behalf of the director, Wilhelm Melchior, which launched her career with his play, Maloja Snake.  She travels with her personal assistant, Valentin (Kristen Stewart), who does everything for her as well as run lines with her and judge the depth of the characters and the scripts.  On their travels, they meet a director, Klaus Diesterweg (Lars Eidinger), who was working with Wilhelm wants Enders to act in the sequel to Maloja Snake.  Diesterweg does not want Enders to reprise her role as Sigrid, but as Sigrid’s lesbian lover, Helena.  Helena is the opposite of Sigrid and is much older thus springs Enders’ reluctance to accept the role.  A young, forthright, and darn right scandalous actress is to take the role of Sigrid, Jo-Ann Ellis (Chloë Grace Moretz).

A&E has made a name for itself in being a go-to network for original TV series, they might be reality based like ‘Duck Dynasty‘, ‘Gene Simmons Family Jewels‘ or ‘The Wahlburgers‘, police procedurals, paranormal reality and a series that was based on a legendary cinematic masterpiece from Alfred Hitchcock, ‘Psycho‘, with ‘Bates Motel‘. The weekly show is enjoying success in it’s third season and has set a positive precedent that A&E is eager to replicate, and like BM the network has chosen another horror movie to base the show on, ‘Let The Right One In‘.

Film Review: ‘Laggies’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 6th, 2014

Hi guys, Beka P. here…

13882-1

Laggies is a delightful film about adulting and how you are never truly done growing up. The most refreshing thing about this movie’s message is that it’s not about becoming a grown up, but rather finding yourself in whatever stage of life you find yourself lost in no matter how old you are. The three main characters, Megan (Keira Knightly), Annika (Chloë Grace Moretz), and Craig (Sam Rockwell), are all trying to figure out who they are all and how they fit into the world. This theme is woven beautifully into how people connect with one another in strange, unanticipated and sometimes perfect ways.

Film Review: ‘The Equalizer’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 25th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

Denzel Washington

This remake of an 80s television show about a retired CIA operative who now helps regular people in trouble has been in the works for quite some time. I believe it was always going to star the impressive Denzel Washington, but a few directors have been in and out of the director’s chair including Nicolas Winding Refn (‘Drive‘). He bowed out a while ago and the studio asked Antoine Fuqua to helm the project, which he accepted. Fuqua worked with Washington on the Oscar winning film ‘Training Day‘, which also earned Washington an acting Oscar.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Muppets Most Wanted’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 14th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

MuppetsMostWantedBlurayCombo_jpg_rgb

THE FILM

It’s very difficult to find a sequel that’s as good as the original. There aren’t a lot out there that are great sequels, but when they do come along, they are remembered forever. And maybe what worked so well for the first Muppet film that starred Jason Segel and Amy Adams is that it had a human element to it, and didn’t just follow the Muppets around. That’s not to say that this sequel ‘Muppets: Most Wanted‘ isn’t a lot of fun and very entertaining. It is, but it doesn’t have that magic that the last one had.

Is There a ‘Kick-Ass’ 3 In The Works?!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Aug 11th, 2014

Hey fanboys and girls, Jana here,

MV5BMTMzNzEzMDYxM15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwMTc0NTMxMw@@._V1_SX640_SY720_

You may be asking yourself what is in the future for ‘Kick-Ass‘. Let me fill you in on the latest. When Mark Millar, the creator of the comic books the movies are based on, he’s not sure either. The freshman offering from the Kick-Ass universe took fans by storm and surprise. I can’t even count the number of times I’ve re-watched the movie, punched the air in victory or sat in shock watching the death of Big Daddy. Hit Girl is my personal favorite and I’ve tried telling my son numerous times that if he finds a girlfriend one day like her, I’ll be happy.

The film made stars out of relatively no-name actors Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Chloe Grace Moretz and moved them up to major players in the acting world from the bit parts they had been accepting. The budget for ‘Kick-Ass’ was a trifling $28 million dollars but brought $100 million at box offices and earned another $140 million in DVD sales. This kind of revenue would make any production company eager to sign on for a sequel and that’s what happened.
