A Deeper look into the ‘The Holiday’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 21st, 2017

In 2006 a little movie by the name of ‘The Holiday’ was released unto the world from the place where all darkness flows. It now signifies the start of “Holiday Movie Season” for countless women across the globe. I believe it is solely responsible for the Hallmark Channel’s holiday film slate every November-December. However, the imitators don’t even come close to the unique mess this film is. I actually don’t think I’ve seen the movie in one full sitting the past 5 years but it has been in such a rotation in my home that I’ve caught it in enough chunks to have seen it at least 10-12 full times since it came out in 2006. I really want to break down the absurdity of this movie to get everyone in the holiday spirit.

Elizabeth Banks is a hot ticket in Tinseltown. She is Effie Trinket in ‘The Hunger Games‘ trilogy, she voiced Wyldstyle in the crazy popular ‘The Lego Movie‘ and she not only continued the role of Gail in ‘Pitch Perfect 2‘, but she also directed the pic. Banks has now set her sights on her next project behind the camera and it’s a reboot of Sony’sCharlie’s Angels‘ franchise.

Film Review: ‘Annie’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 19th, 2014

Beka P., Here…

Celebrity Sightings In New York City - December 2, 2013

Annie’s adage is, “you’re never fully dressed without a smile,” and you’re sure to be doing just that from beginning to end of this remake. As a child, I about wore out my VHS of the 1982 version, so you can imagine how skeptical I was going into this reboot. Like most of you old school Annie fans, I went in with a, “this better be good or else” attitude. It’s a good thing director Will Gluck’s version blew me out of the water, because I’m not really sure who I would have submitted my complaints to.

Film Review: ‘The Other Woman’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 24th, 2014

Hillary T., Here…

the-other-woman-movie-2014

I honestly would not have given this movie a second look. I would not have paid to see it, or rented it, if I had not been asked to screen it for Boomstick Comics. I am so glad I did!  We walked in, and from the start, ‘The Other Woman’ was not what I expected. I was so pleasantly surprised. This movie’s plot line is absolutely unbelievable, for sure, but for what it is (a chick flick), it is downright fun.

Hi, Bryan Here…..

Sans-blague-Hollywood-prepare-un-ExpendaBelles_portrait_w532

We all knew with the success of Sylvester Stallone’sThe Expendables‘ films, that there was eventually going to be a female version. It was only a matter of time. We’ve even talked about it on this site before. Well, we aren’t too far off from some big news regarding this project. Millennium Films chief Avi Lerner, who has released the past ‘Expendable‘ films, is making ‘The ExpendaBelles‘, which again is virtually the same film as Stallone’s, but with females.

Film Review: “The Counselor”

by Woozie on Oct 25th, 2013

Suzanne L., Here….

1382652816000-AP-FILM-REVIEW-THE-COUNSELOR-59336400

The novels written by Cormac McCarthy always have haunting aspects with exquisite words that explore human nature while streaming the stories through your imagination in beautiful visions that starkly contrast with the depictions of gruesome violence. Translating his vision to the big screen has not always been easy, but with his first original screenplay the writer has taken more control of his story in the film medium. In The Counselor, McCarthy, veteran director Ridley Scott, and a well-rounded cast present a powerful drama about moral dilemma and the inevitable path we create for ourselves when we make choices.

‘Bad Teacher 2’ Is Happening!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 21st, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

Bad Teacher

Columbia Pictures thinks ‘Bad Teacher‘ is the best thing since sliced bread. Not only are they developing a TV series based off the film, but they have just greenlit a sequel. Director Jake Kasdan will be returning as director and Cameron Diaz is currently dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s in her contract to reprise her role. It’s in her best interest to do the sequel as the first film (for some reason) made tons of money, despite it not being a good movie.

Yet, another trailer for today.  This time it is the remake of the 1966 film ‘Gambit’.  Instead of Michael Caine and Shirley MacLaine, we have Colin Firth and Cameron Diaz.  Don’t fret about Diaz being in the picture, because the Coen Bros. wrote this film.  There is no release date yet set for the US, however it will release in the UK on November 21.

HBO and Stephen Merchant Team Up For ‘Hello Ladies’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 23rd, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

HBO has picked up a pilot of ‘Hello Ladies’, a comedy series co-written, directed, and starring Stephen Merchant.  ‘Hello Ladies’ was also written by former ‘Office’ writer/producers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky.  Merchant was star as a gawky Englishman searching for the woman of his dreams in Los Angeles. Half as charming as he thinks he is — and twice as desperate — he’s obsessed with infiltrating the glamorous world of beautiful people. Unfortunately the beautiful people won’t let him in.

Bryan Sits In Class With A ‘Bad Teacher’!!! (A Review)

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 23rd, 2011

Hi Bryan Here….

When I first saw the red band trailer for ‘Bad Teacher’ I’ll admit that I laughed quite a bit.  It was extremely vulgar in the way of language.  It reminded me of Bad Santa.  It seemed like one of those films that the comedy was going to come from the use of vulgar language.  And I was totally right.  After seeing the film, the comedy is built on the use of vulgar language.  But sadly the film doesn’t work.  Cameron Diaz is a wretched mess throughout the whole film while Justin Timberlake’s amazing talent is wasted on horrible dialogue and story.  The only good part of the film is Jason Segel which unfortunately only has about 10 or 15 minutes of screen time.  But every time he is on film, it is comedic gold.

Hi Bryan Here…

Several years ago, the Coen Bros. wrote a script for a remake of “Gambit”.  As of right now, they are not attached in any way, shape, or form to this film, other than their initial script they wrote.  However they already have a director to helm this project which is Michael Hoffman.  He directed the amazing film, “The Station Agent”.

Hi Bryan Here…

F*ck My A$$!!

Here is the “R” rated red band trailer for the upcoming comedy, “Bad Teacher”.  It stars Cameron Diaz, Justin Timberlake, Jason Segel, and Phyllis Smith (Phyllis from The Office).  I also think I saw John Malkovich in the trailer. This film looks funny from the trailer, but I am not so sure if it will be good as a feature length film, even with the great cast minus Cameron Diaz.

Bryan’s Most Anticipated Films for 2011!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 7th, 2011

Hi Bryan Here…

So 2010 is over and 2011 has just begun.  I was recently talking with a friend and we both agreed that 2010 was kind of a let down as far as movies went.  Don’t get me wrong, there were some precious gems riddled throughout the year, but they were not many.  Basically I said, that it was a very uncool year with flashes of coolness in regards to films.
