#Ash4Emmy Jump On The Bruce Campbell Bandwagon!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jun 9th, 2016

Hey guys, Jana here,

bruce-campbell-emmy-ad

We’ve all been inundated with bids for our votes lately, national politics, school board nominees and now…the Emmy’s? I’m getting sick of the ads and the smear campaigns that are prevalent everywhere and I don’t want to see another candidate stumping – except this one. Bruce Campbell makes everything groovy, including vying for an Emmy nomination.

If you’re sad that TBS canceled ‘King of the Nerds‘ after 3 seasons, rest a little easier knowing that another reality competition series is amping up and shopping for networks to host the game show that will be very similar to the formula KOTN used with one little twist – Take out the “nerd” and sub in “horror”!!!

It makes Comic-Cons more awesome because that’s where they film, and it makes reality TV so much more fun as it’s part of Wizard World’s ConTV. Bruce Campbell is back as Ash. He’s re-attaching the chainsaw and gripping his boomstick once again as he faces a deadite invasion after a 30 year lull in the action. Starz is taking the exciting world that gave us three Evil Dead films and re-sizing it for the small screen and we’ve got some of the first images from the set.

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

I knew there would be a day where we would have another ‘Evil Dead‘ and ‘Army of Darkness‘ project, starring Bruce ‘man-god’ Campbell, which is for sure happening. Read about that story HERE. But I also knew there would be a glorious day where America’s finest actor would get the opportunity to play the President of the United States. Fortunately for all of us, that day has come as Bruce will play Ronald Reagan in the upcoming 2nd season of ‘Fargo‘ for FX.

Bruce Campbell Will Star in ‘Evil Dead’ Series!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jul 29th, 2014
Hey guys, Jana here,

evil-dead-2-crazy-ash-27

Looks like Sam Raimi was holding a little something back when he spoke about his ‘Last Of Us‘ project at Comic-Con. Raimi was excited about his new project, and added a little info that he and his brother, Ivan Raimi were co-writing ‘The Evil Dead‘ TV show with Bruce Campbell. While this is  great news for fans of ‘The Evil Dead‘, it managed to get even better. How could this get better? Campbell, who was the star of the original trilogy, confirmed on Twitter that he intends to star in the series!

Bruce Campbell to Make Sequel to My Name is Bruce

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 8th, 2010

Bruce “Man-God” Campbell told Hero Complex that there will be a sequel to “My Name is Bruce” called “Bruce vs. Frankenstein”.  This comes as kind of a shock to me since he turned down the sequel to “Bubba Ho-Tep”.

Upon further reading it seems the truth came out as to why he is choosing to do “Bruce vs. Frankenstein”.  Well “Bruce vs. Frankenstein according to Bruce will be “The Expendables” of Horror.

Here is what Bruce had to say: “Yeah, [it’s] “The Expendables,” or more like the “It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World” of horror. I want to get so many horror movie stars that people can’t possibly not see the movie. I want to give them other stuff to do. I want to have Kane Hodder be very particular about what he eats. I want Robert Englund to be a tough guy, like he knows tae kwon do or something. I want to find out the hidden sides of all these people. Some will play themselves, some will play alternate characters as well. I may approach Kane Hodder to play Frankenstein. He could be Kane Hodder himself fighting himself as Frankenstein. It could be crazy. It’s a silly concocted story that we hope to do maybe in a year or so. My breaks between “Burn Notice” have been getting tighter because they’ve been adding episodes. They’re trying to trap me like a rat in the TV world, and I might just let them. There’s a script, it just kind of blows right now, so no one’s really seeing it. We gotta work on it. Definitely shoot in Oregon all on a stage. It’s like the “300? of horror comedies. We want to make it a whole world. Someone’s gotta take Frank down for good.”

This sounds like it will be the BEST horror comedy film since “The Lost Boys”.  Hopefully they can get an excellent working script.

Check out the “My Name is Bruce” DVD for some good laughs.

Bruce Campbell makes another appearance on blu-ray

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 30th, 2010

Finally the first in the epic trilogy will be released in High-Definition tomorrow.  Blu ray is so amazing and I cannot wait to see how this movie looks.  I am of course talking about The Evil Dead.  The film that brought Bruce Campbell from ordinary man to a man-god.  He is uncle sam’s favorite actor and he is such a joy to watch in pretty much everything.

Sam Raimi made this film while in college with friends on a low low budget. According to Stephen King it was the Ultimate in Grueling Terror.  He wasn’t lying.

I will update you with my blu ray review of this soon.  Looking froward to the new commentary by Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell.

THE FILM

When you say the name Jordan Peele, you would most likely think of the brilliant comedic stylings of Key and Peele or Peele’s time on MadTV. You might even crack a big smile, thinking of Peele’s recent film Keanu. But I’m willing to bet you wouldn’t think of the words “horror maestro” when you see Jordan Peele’s name come across the screen. And that’s exactly what Peele can add to his resume résumé with his new movie Get Out, which he wrote and directed for the genre mogul Blumhouse.

Film Review: ‘Don’t Breathe’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 26th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

Stephen Lang stars in Screen Gems' horror-thriller DON'T BREATHE.

Fede Alvarez burst onto the scene a few years ago with his short film on YouTube called ‘Ataque de Pánico!‘ It was so well received and well done that a few weeks later, Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell, and Rob Tapert were calling him non-stop and even offered the Uruguayan filmmaker the chance to direct the remake of ‘The Evil Dead‘, which came out 2013 to rave reviews and fan appreciation for what it was. Since then, Fede has a few projects in the works coming up, as he is one of the top new filmmakers to watch in the horror genre.

A good friend sent me this short film by Diego and Julio Hallivis, who are brothers living in Los Angeles and making films. Hillary Thomas’ Top 5 Films and Best TV Shows of 2015!!

Working Title Ep. 1 with Gwen and Bryan!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 10th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

What can I say? I love movies, television, comics, music, WWE, literature, and video games and that’s not even half of it. I’m fortunate enough to have met some amazing and delightful people since 2007 when I started writing about film. Over the years, I’ve talked about superheroes in print, discussed the many faces of Bruce Campbell, and debated who should star in a remake of ‘Seinfeld‘ on a weekly podcast. Since it’s 2015 and we might see zombies anytime now coming up through the ground, I figured it was as good a time as any to get into the video format, hence this new project called ‘Working Title‘, which is currently our, errmmm working title. This is our first episode where Gwen Reyes from Fresh Fiction TV and myself discuss ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron‘, ‘Far From The Madding Crowd‘, ‘Goodfellas 25th Anniversary’, ‘The Marine 4: Moving Target‘ with Mike ‘The Miz’, and the recent ‘Frank Sinatra‘ collection from Warner Bros. We plan on making this a regular scheduled program with tons of surprises in store. We hope you enjoy.

Film Review: ‘Birdman’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 22nd, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

and-the-oscar-goes-to-could-birdman-be-the-first-superhero-movie-nominated-for-best-picture

It’s a very rare occurrence where a film changes the game on almost every aspect of filmmaking. From acting to camerawork, ‘Birdman‘ literally soars above the rest where fierce emotions of erratic actors are put on display in a chaotic yet darkly comedic setting inside the St. James Theatre on West 44th Street in Manhattan. Not only do these actors turn in Oscar-worthy performances of the highest order, but director Alejandro G. Inarritu (Amores Perros) and cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki have given us an image so fresh and that pushes the bounds, that this is one of the most pleasing films of the year, visually speaking and unlike anything you might have seen before. Lubezki has worked with Alfonso Cauron on ‘Children of Men‘ and the recent film ‘Gravity‘.

I’m very skeptical about this project. The original ‘Escape from New York‘ that starred Kurt Russell and was directed by John Carpenter is pretty much flawless. ‘Escape From LA‘ on the other hand wasn’t as good, even though it had Bruce Campbell. That being said, Hollywood, specifically producer Joel Silver has been wanting to remake the film for the better part of a decade now. But it seems as of recently, that things are picking up speed.

the_expendables_2-wide

If two films weren’t enough, there will be a third movie to laugh at. That’s right, ‘The Expendables 3‘ has a release date of August 15, 2014, which Lionsgate is proud to get behind. And why shouldn’t they be proud, the first two made over $575 million worldwide, which is the biggest franchise for Millennium Films. This time around, Patrick Hughes will be in the director’s chair, which his only feature credit is for a movie called ‘Red Hill‘, so she has his work cut out for him.

Univision Networks has announced that it will spawn a new network called the El Rey Network, which will be led by Robert Rodriguez and John Fogelman. El Rey will start towards the end of the year through Comcast, while Univision will handle the sales and distribution aspects. Rodriguez, who directed the ‘Spy Kids‘ films, ‘Sin City‘ and ‘Desperado‘ has just announced that one of their first shows that will air on the new El Rey network will be a TV series adaptation of one of his first films ‘From Dusk Till Dawn‘, which was written and worked on by his good friend Quentin Tarantino.

Here is Fernando’s ‘Evil Dead’ Review!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 5th, 2013

FedMex Here….

Evil-Dead-Remake-Featured-2013

Holy smokes, if you’re a horror fan, you need to see this film immediately.  Most of us are familiar with the Sam Raimi masterpiece, The Evil Dead.  The 2013 version is a remake, make no mistake about that, but it is one of the few remakes that actually holds ground with the original source material.

Ben Chimes In With His ‘Evil Dead’ Review!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 5th, 2013

Ben K., Here….

Evil-Dead-2013-1

As Fede Alvarez’s remake of the Sam Raimi horror classic came to a close, I heard a guy behind me mutter, “It was just a gorefest.” I resisted the urge to ask, “What exactly were you expecting?” When The Evil Dead came out back in 1981, was it not a gorefest? Was Evil Dead 2 not a gorefest? If by “just a gorefest” he meant that it lacked the humor of the original films, then perhaps he has a point. Gone were the many hat tips to The Three Stooges seen in Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness (aside from the “Fake Shemps” listed in the credits). The “Ashisms” were nowhere to be found until after the credits rolled. Still, for the fans who have been there from the beginning, this was more than a gorefest, indeed.

Film Review: ‘Evil Dead’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 4th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

evil-dead-remake

My name is Bryan Kluger and I’m an ‘Evil Dead-aholic’.  One of my life defining moments in film was the very first time I saw ‘Army of Darkness‘. It was on VHS right when it was released on home video in the early 90s. It blew my fragile mind. I never knew a film could exist that had everything I ever wanted in a movie in the span of 90 minutes. It had thrills, monsters, demons, romance, comedy, action, a boomstick and a chainsaw. What else could someone want? I had to find out everything I could about this movie and soon figured out there were two film that proceeded it. Those films were ‘The Evil Dead‘ and ‘The Evil Dead II‘.

Film Review: ‘Oz: The Great and Powerful’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 6th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

url

A more fitting title for this would have been ‘Oz the Modest and Ineffective’. I have no doubt that this prequel will make tons of money the next two weekends at the box office, although it doesn’t deserve it. Even though you have an all-star cast, an amazing director, and top notch talent around the board, it doesn’t necessarily mean you have quality film in the can. On the contrary, it seems like every bit of life, joy, and entertainment was taken away early on, never to return. This prequel to the iconic and incredible 1939 film might be the top miscast film ever put on screen, and that’s only the beginning.

Hi, Bryan Here….

evildead-remake

Fede Alvarez, Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert, and Bruce Campbell have just released the brand new red band trailer for their revamp of ‘The Evil Dead‘, one of my favorite films of all time.  This 2nd trailer just goes all out.  It’s scary as hell, very tense, frightening, with enough blood for grandma, and some familiar creepy dialogue.  I’ve watched three times already, and will probably watch 100 times more.  I cannot wait for this film.  Enjoy the trailer below.  Looks like this will be the scariest film of the last ten years.

Hi, Bryan Here….

Here it is.  It’s finally here.  The amazing trailer for the remake of ‘The Evil Dead‘.  I’ve been looking forward to this for quite some time.  These films have been  a big part of my life.  You probably already know that by the name of this website.  Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi have given their stamp of approval for this, and this just looks totally fucking nuts.  Yes, there a re different characters, however, the main theme is the same.  I’m to giddy right now.

The good folks over at Google have added a mighty fun search option.  That’s right, you can now play and check your Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon questions.  All you have to do is type in the google search engine “bacon number” then which ever actor you want to look up that is somehow related to Kevin Bacon.  I, of course typed in Bruce Campbell to start, and low and behold the separation was only 2.  Bruce Campbell and Embeth Davidtz were in ‘Army of Darkness’.  Embeth Davidtz and Kevin Bacon were in ‘Murder in the First’. Check Mate!

The Top 26 Film Vehicles!!!

Hi, Bryan Here….

Have you ever wanted to own a specific car from a film or television series?  I have compiled a list of my favorite vehicles from films and television series that I want to own someday.  Now, I am excluding spaceships, because that is a whole different list.  This particular list of vehicles all stay on the ground.  It was fun coming up with this list, and I imagine some of you out there actually own these cars or are working on restoring one.  Or just maybe it will give you an idea to make one of these in real life.  Enjoy.

Julian Assange Guests on ‘The Simpsons’ as Himself!!!

Hi Bryan Here….

Wiki Leaks founder Julian Assange has a gust spot on ‘The Simpsons’ coming up on February 19th.  This  also marks ‘The Simpsons’ 500th episode.  In the episode,  Marge and Homer go off the grid and find themselves living next door to Assange. “He invites them over for a home movie and it’s an Afghan wedding being bombed,” says producer Al Jean. “There’s nothing we did that has anything to do with the legal situation that he’s in,” Jean says. “We wanted to make sure it was satirical, and he was willing to do that.”

Hi Bryan Here….

Evil Dead 2.  Possibly one of the greatest films ever made.  It has a 98% Fresh rating on rotten tomatoes.  This sequel to the Sam Raimi horror gore fest, is pretty much a re-telling of the first film with a bigger budget and an added humor in the vein of Three Stooges.  This humor and horror mix nicely to bring you one of the best thrill rides of your life.  And let me just say, it seems that they went back to the original negatice of the film and cleaned it all up for this release.  It looks AMAZING.  The best it has ever looked.  This gets my highest recommendation.  Get it.

Hi Bryan Here…..

I don’t even know where to begin with ‘G-Force’.  I just can’t fathom that anyone thought that a bunch of guinea pigs that can talk and are actually super spies would get greenlit and made into a film.  Well that happened and kids love it.  I just don’t see anyone over the age of six enjoying this film, unless you have some sort of bizarre fetish and love for guinea pigs.  Other than the film itself being a complete disaster on all levels, the video and audio are pretty decent.  Especially the video presentation.  Talking rodents who are spies.  What’ll they think of next?

Bryan Reviews ‘Cars 2’ in 3D!!! (A 3D Blu-ray Review)

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 19th, 2011

Hi Bryan Here…..

I liked two things from Cars 2.  It looks really good and crisp.  And Bruce “man-god” Campbell lends his voice to one of the cars.  That’s it.  I don’t understand why Pixar lowered the bar with this one.  Cars 2 actually should have been called “The Mater Show” since the film it 95% about him, which is just terrible on every level.  Maybe it’s because I find Larry the Cable Guy just an untalented guy.  The first Cars film has always been my least favorite of all the Pixar films, but that’s not saying much, because every Pixar film is AWESOME.  AWESOME until this sequel.  However this is one of the best looking Pixar films ever to grace blu-ray.  And the 3D is top notch after the first big scene of the film.  But does that make it worth the buy?  You be the judge.

TOP 133 FILMS OF THE LAST DECADE #’S 68-54

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 22nd, 2010

Bryan Here…

Knocking out this list on time and schedule nowadays.  Feels good.  Some great films on this part of the list.  Some that I have not seen in a while that I will have to watch again soon. We’re getting down to the #1 spot pretty quickly.  Enjoy this part of the list #’s 68-54.  As usual, you will get the title of the movie and the date it was released plus a mini review/memory by me.  Also a link to purchase the movie if you are ever so inclined which would donate a small percentage back to this website so we can keep giving you AWESOME material and prizes.

Enjoy

68_ Iron Man – May 2, 2008

Another comic book film.  Iron Man is really really good in pretty much every way.  Robert Downey Jr. is killer in this film as the super-hero and Jeff Bridges is a pretty convincing bad guy.  This film is a lot of fun and full of laughs and action.  Can’t wait for the sequel and Avengers film.  Go Sam Jackson as Nick Fury.

67_ Brick – March 31, 2006

This film is great.  A wonderful homage to the old 30’s noir films.  Set in present time but take the characters and have them talk like they did in the 30’s noir film and a plot and story line likewise.  It is so great.  Tons of twists and turns.  Joseph Gordon Levitt is amazing.  I am proud to have this on the list.  Love this film.

66_ Drag Me To Hell – May 29, 2009

Sam Raimi’s return to the horror genre from his long stint on the Spidey franchise is 100 % AWESOME.  Sadly no Bruce Campbell, but Drag Me To Hell is Evil Dead I & II and Army of Darkness rolled into one film.  Yes it is that great.  This is your standard tale  of a gypsy woman curing a young girl this curse activates a demon to terrorize its victims and DRAG THEM TO HELL.  Good scares and great laughs.  A lot of fun.

65_ Zoolander – September 28, 2001

Ben Stiller is great director and a great character actor.  Tons of quotable lines from this film even today.  A dark comedy in the world of super-models.  I mean in the first five minutes of the film a few super models die in  a gas station fire which they started.  HILARIOUS.  Tons of great cameos and acting all around.  Zoolander will always have a place in my home and heart.   I mean he did found the Zoolander Center For Kids Who Can’t Read Good.

64_ Napoleon Dynamite – June 11, 2004

I saw this film five times before it was initially released wide and I loved every minute of it.  I really cannot tell what time period it is in other than sometime in the vague present, but Napoleon is a kid in high school who is maybe the most awkward kid ever, but he means well.  This is the story of his life in the span of a few weeks.  It is quite hilarious in this dry humor.  This character is one of the cult icons now in history.  The dance number at the end to Canned heat classic.  Love this film.

63_ Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind – March 19, 2004

A gem of a film from Gondry.  This film is fantastic film.  Almost like you are in a dream and nightmare at the same time through out the whole film.  A couple undergo a procedure to erase each other from their memories when their relationship turns sour, but it is only through the process of loss that they discover what they had to begin with.  Truly fantastic.

62_ Ratatouille – June 29, 2007

I really liked this pixar film.  All about the restaurant and food and cooking industry.  So much heart and love is in this film.  It looks beautiful and and the voice acting by Patton Oswalt is wonderful.  Anyone can cook, even a rat.  Love it.

61_ The Departed – October 6, 2006

A really great gangster film from the best gangster director.  That is Marty Scorcesse.  Boston gangs.  All-star cast and tons of twists and references to other mob films.  Leonardo Di Caprio plays an undercover agent in the mob and tries to keep his sanity and wits during the whole time.  What a great film.  Alec Baldwin is hilarious in this film.

60_ Munich – December 23, 2005

A Spielberg film about the true events and revenge of the horrible attack at the Munich Olympic games against the Israel team.  Eric Bana leads the grou to kill one by one the terrorists responsible for the murders.  What an amazing film.  Everything is great about this film except for the last ten minutes which is what to expect from Spielberg films.

59_ Thank You For Smoking – March 17, 2006

I really loved this film.  This about lobbyists in our nation.  Lobbyists for tobacco, guns, and alcohol and how they persuade politicians and important people to keep their industry making large amounts of money.  It is very good and entertaining.  Pretty scary too that this actually goes on.  Great writing and acting all around.

58_ The Hangover – June 5, 2009

Form the director of Old School and Road Trip comes the next film about a crazy Bachelor Party in vegas with strippers, guns, tasers, naked people, Mike Tyson, tigers and much much more.  I believe this film is the highest gross out of any R rated film ever.  It is very funny.  Very funny.  Leslie Chow.

57_ Superbad – August 17, 2007

Oh this great comedy film brought tears of laughter to my face.  Oh so funny.  Jonah Hill and Michael Cera are best friends in their last days of high school who have only really hung out with each other and are invited to  a huge party and are asked to supply the liquor which is the “entire funness” of the party.  This is their journey to accomplish this with their friend McLovin who is a cult icon now too.  This film is great and has most of the Apatow gang in it.  Not only does this film bring the best jokes but it also has a great heart and soul in it as well.  Friendship.

56_ Serenity – September 30, 2005

Man Joss Whedon kicks ass.  His vision of a sci-fi/western world is phenomenal.  This was a television series before a film.  The film is equally awesome as the show was.  I wish more films were like this.  It is entertaining, scary, funny, romantic, and pretty much all the emotions across the board in the span of two hours.  This will entertain you for years to come.  There is a reason all these shirts and posters say Joss Whedon is my Master now.  It is true.

55_ 300 – March 9, 2007

Frank Miller’s brutal Spartan comic became a reality when director Zack Snyder took the helm and adapted it into a movie.  This movies is 99% shot on a green screen with a “crush” technique that gives the film its rustic vintage look.  I was wondering how they were going to turn a 32 page comic book into a whole two hour feature length film, but they did.  And did it well.  I saw a screener of this movie way before its initial release and it was introduced by UFC Champ Chuck Liddell.    Chuck got us all in the mood for a hardcore brutal film about honor and freedom.  The fight scenes were filmed extremely well and has been copied in many other movies after this one.  I am referring to the normal pace to the slow- mo action beats all in one shot.  The use of heavy metal music was an added booster to the balls this movies has.  I really liked this movie.  Very entertaining.

54_ Hot Fuzz – February 14, 2007

The second feature film from BADASS director, Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead), brings us his vision of the ultimate fast paced action thriller in Hot Fuzz.  This film starred the same cast as Shaun of the Dead, and was about the best police officer in London getting re-assigned to a very small quiet village.  The people who live in the village are not what they seem.  This film packs a huge punch of action and gut busting laughs.  The end action sequence lasts about 25 minutes and is balls to the wall AWESOME.  Edgar Wright can do NO wrong.  I saw the U.S. premiere of this film at AFI, and met Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Edgar Wright, and Dolph Lundgren (who introduced the film).  A great film that I will enjoy through the ages and one of the best action films EVER.

Sam Raimi Will Direct “The Day of the Triffids”

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 21st, 2010

One of my favorite directors, Sam Raimi, has signed on to direct the remake of the AWESOME old horror film, “The Day of the Triffids”.  Sam Raimi started out making old horror films by the names of Evil Dead 1 & 2 and Army of Darkness.  He also went on to make the three Spider-Man films. He is a genius when it comes to entertaining an audience and filmmaking.

Oh God I hope Bruce Campbell makes an appearance in this film.  I do not see why he wouldn’t.

For those of you haven’t read the book or seen the old movie, Day of the Triffids is about highly intelligent plants who are brutally aggressive and murderous and who can move on their three like plant legs and communicate with one another and kill humans.  The plants start doing this to the humans after a meteor shower renders all who witnessed the meteors falling to become blind which is like 99% of the population.

I can’t wait to see this.

Top 133 Films of the Last Decade (#119 – #101)

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 30th, 2010

After this section of the list we will be at the top 100 films of the last decade.  So many great films on this list.   Like last time, you will get the title of the movie, the year it was released, and a brief memory and review of the film.  Plus, a link to purchase the movie over at AMAZON for a great price.

Enjoy #’s 119 – 101.

119_ House of 1000 Corpses – April 11, 2003

The much anticipated Rob Zombie Horror film.  This film went through so much hell to get released.  It took about two years.  But finally it did.  Rob Zombie showed me that he had what it takes to be a director and he also showed his love of horror films.  Captain Spaulding is forever a great character in cinema history now.  This film is brutal, hilarious, bloody, and all out crazy.  Go Rob!  Look out for a young Rainn Wilson.

118_ Boiler Room – February 18, 2000

What a great story about an illegal stock broking firm.  This movie made me       re-think about those pesky sales calls.  Great performances from Giovanni Ribisi and Nicky Katt.  Kick ass soundtrack too.  i love the Ben Affleck speeches in this movie to motivate these young kids to steal people’s money.  I would imagine this film hits close to home for some people.

117_ Love Actually – November 7, 2003

The ultimate romantic comedy that does not fail anywhere.  I love watching this film.  Not only is it filled with love and comedy, it is filled with drama and hurt.  The best of both worlds really.  All-star cast with cameo appearances by tons of people including Mr. Bean.  If you want a great wonderful feel good movie, then watch this.

116_ Grizzly Man – December 5, 2005

What a horrifying documentary about a man who lives with the grizzly bears illegally in Alaska for a decade.  Now don’t get me wrong, I laughed a lot in this doc, but ultimately it is a tragic tale.  You meet Timothy Treadwell who appears normal and has an unhealthy fascination with bears.  His problem is that he thinks they are like humans.  Throughout the doc you seem him descent into literal madness where he will never escape which leads to his and his girlfriend’s death.  Werner Herzog does a great job with the footage that he is given.  A must-see.  i just think Timothy’s downfall was that he did not understand nature or the chaos that nature is.  You will see it.  Remember the bee he thought was dead?

115_ Ong Bak 2 – October – 23, 2009

The follow up to the bad ass thai martial arts film Ong Bak starring Tony Jaa who is the ultimate badass.  No stunt wires or special effects either in this film.  Jaa is Bruce Lee times 1000.  Ong Bak not only stars Jaa but is also directed by him.  The fight scenes are beautiful and the direction is beautiful. I just want more Tony Jaa films.  Please. Now.

114_ The Mist – November 21, 2007

Stephen King’s amazing book gets the proper treatment from Frank Darabont.  I loved this adaptation.  This film really did creep me out.  If something like this really happened, you better believe some fanatics would come out and start some crazy shit and not help the situation at hand which is that terrifying monsters are trying to eat us.  Loved the ending.  Also the B &W version on the dvd is great as well.

113_ Sicko – June 29, 2007

Another great documentary from Michael Moore.  This man knows what he is talking about.  I do believe we need a better healthcare system in this country and what we have now is not working and has not worked.  This film is NOT about people WITHOUT healthcare, but rather about people WITH healthcare who DON’T get help because of the insurance companies.  It is heartbreaking and funny and very informative.  I think everyone should see this documentary.

112_ The Devil’s Rejects – July 22, 2005

The follow up to Rob Zombie’s House of 1000 Corpses which plays out more like Natural Born Killers than a Music Video Horror Film.  I loved this film.  So much fun and uber uber violent.  I think this film still holds the record for most curse words. I really root for the bad guys in this film, because in essence they are a family doing what they do best.  Once again Rob Zombie makes a brilliant piece of Horror cinema to last forever.  Great dialogue that will make you gut bust laugh.

111_ Azumi – May 10, 2003

A badass Japenese flick about a samurai girl who fights evil in her land.  Move starts off with her in a samurai school and the last test before “graduation is her and her classmates have to fight to the death.  Who ever survives gets to graduate.  HARDCORE!  There is a very creepy gender confused villain in this film which makes for much delight.  Also the fight between Azumi and about 1000 people is epic.  The camera work is top notch.  See Azumi.

110_ Zero Day – January 23, 2004

Oh man this film is crazy.  Based on the shootings at Columbine, this film is made to look like a handheld camera documentary of  the lives of two friends in high school who plan to kill as many people at their high school as they can.  And they DO.  It is like Blair Witch/Cloverfield but with the Columbine Shootings subject matter.  It is very frightening.  Tons of insight as to why the Columbine might have happened.  This film rocks and if you can find it, WATCH IT.

109_ Shrek – May 18, 2001

This series has made tons of money and Shrek and Donkey have become cult characters forever.  This is on the list because of its wit, humor, and story.  Very original.  I loved theis film is not only for kids but adults of all ages.  Which means it works on all levels.  I just wish the third film could have been good.

108_ Ali – December 28, 2001

This film makes the list strictly for it’s acting from Will Smith, John Voight, and Jamie Foxx.  I did not particularly like the direction at all, but the acting is unbelievable.  Some of the best.

107_ Hellboy – April 2, 2004

Oh Hellboy, one of my favorite characters from comics.  Del Toro did a fantastic job with this film as he does with all of his movies.  The world he created with Hellboy is pure magic.  He can brilliantly mix fear and comedy and make it work.  Kudos to you all.  Ron Pearlman is excellent as Hellboy.  I want more Hellboy films.

106_ The 40 Year Old Virgin – August 19, 2005

The film that brought Judd Apatow and Steve Carrell to fame.  Also the film that redefined the comedy genre with the dick jokes and vulgar bathroom humor.  Not only are the jokes in here great but it also has a wonderful story.  I still quote this film.

105_ Zombieland – October 2, 2009

Zombies and Woody Harrelson amped up to 10 makes for a kick ass fun film.  I really enjoyed this film.  Fast paced, good character development, plenty of guts and gore, and great funny dialogue and possibly the best cameo of the decade is in this film.  All hail B.M.  I hear they are making a sequel to this film.  Also this film starts out in Garland.  Looking forward to more from this director.

104_ Speed Racer – May 9, 2008

The Wachowski siblings bring this cartoon to life in a huge way.  This is the most colorful film I have ever seen.  I think most people disliked this film but I disagree.  I was highly entertained.  This film could have been terrible and been a huge failure, but it was a lot of fun and a high energy thrill ride.  Very enjoyable.

103_ Zodiac – March 2, 2007

A very creepy accurate film of the Zodiac killings which is still unsolved to this day.  Fincher did a great job making this film and all of the characters are spot on.  a quality film in the serial killer genre, possibly one of the best.  Extremely well written.

102_ Spider-Man – May 3, 2002

Sam Raimi brought this beloved comic character to life and is was spectacular.  It was everything I wanted Spider-Man to be.  Even Bruce Campbell was in it.  I can’t speak for the third film, but this fist movie was amazing.  Spot on dialogue delivery and character adaptations and casting was unreal.  This will remain one of the best super hero films ever. Go Sam Raimi.

101_ Behind the Mask – September 14, 2007

A true gem of a film that not many people have seen or heard of.  This film is filmed like a documentary in a world where Freddy Krueger and Jason Vorhees and Pinhead are real.  The immortal killer in this film is Leslie Vernon.  He comes across as a likable charming guy with a hint of something not right.  This film crew documents him and how he kills his victims and how he is able to vanish quickly from sight and keep track after his next victims.  A whole lot of fun and originality.  Highly recommended.  Loved this film.  I hope to see another film with Leslie Vernon.

That’s it for this part of the list. Stay tuned next time for the next section. Any guesses as to which ones will be on the list?

Evil Dead Blu-Ray Review

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 9th, 2010

The Movie: The epic legendary film that spawned Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness and gave the world Bruce “Man-God” Campbell.  Riddled with humor, genuine scary moments, and buckets upon buckets of blood and gore bring you this amazing achievement in movie making.  This marks the directorial debut of Sam Raimi.  Known to most as the director of the Spider-Man movies.

This movie was made on a budget that would equal the coffee supply on a James Cameron movie for one day.  It was made with friends and family over the matter of twelve weeks and sometimes only having a crew of five people and that was including actors.  Sam’s creative use of the camera and genuine talent for terror blasted this film to cult status quickly.

The story you have seen and heard a million times before.  Group of college kids got to a remote cabin in the woods for a weekend for some fun and romance and they unearth a horrible EVIL that possesses the living into flesh eating cannibals who can fly.  The only way to kill one of these undead people is by total dismemberment.

Our hero of the movie is not your typical hero.  He is a man played by Bruce Campbell named Ashley Williams who works at S-Mart in the housewares section.  Just a regular guy who basically gets tortured throughout the movie.

Bruce Campbell and his chin are fantastic throughout this film and the two that followed.  He brings his charm and one liners that have stood the test of time and will continue to do so.

Evil Dead deserves the most consideration and adoration.  Not only because it was made by friends on a cheap budget, but for how creative everyone was with what they had and how it is a genuine awesome film in every way and still continues to be one of the scariest films and goriest films of all time.

The Packaging: Brought to you by Anchor Bay in this Limited Edition bluray/dvd 2-disc set, the bluray is on BD50 and the second disc has all of the special features.  Once at the great full motion menu screen you can choose between two aspect ratios.  1.33:1 and 1.85:1.  One is enhanced and one is not.  The enhanced one, well, enhances the original copy so it is not so shaky.  But you know the shakiness of it all makes it that much better.

The Picture and Sound: This is by far the best copy of this movie I have ever seen and heard and believe me there has been tons of releases of this movie.  The blacks are incredibly deep and accurate and shadows are better than expected.  There is still grain but by no means does it take away from the picture itself and it adds to the gritty cinematic experience.  There is excellent saturation in color throughout the film and this is a prime example of how HD transfers should be.  I’m speaking to you “Asshole” George Lucas.  The vocals are beautifully precise and clear and never overwhelmed by stinging loud pops or action scenes.  The off screen atmospheric sounds are astounding and gives the film it’s frightening presence.  For fans of this film, this truly is the ultimate edition to own.  Again, it has never sounded or looked this great.

The Extras: Anchor Bay releases a 2nd disc of features that could be found on all the previous discs before.  Sad I know, but this tells me that this is not the final all Ultimate Edition of Evil Dead we will see.  Quite a bit of fun in these extras.

The only thing new on here is on the blu ray disc which has new commentary with Bruce Campbell, Sam Raimi, and Rob Tapert which is exclusive to this bluray release.  Now if you have not heard Bruce Campbell commentary before, his commentaries on movies are legendary.  They are roll on the floor laugh out loud funny.  It is a highly informative track that covers funny anecdotes and the horrors of making this film over four years.  I will say this is not the funniest commentary I have heard for it, but it is worth it.

A 54 minute documentary of interviews of some of the cast and other filmmakers of the horror genre weigh in on their love for the movie.  It is called “One by One We Will Take You: The Untold Saga of The Evil Dead”.  You will see some very cool behind the scenes acting and flubs, the history of making the movie, and the reaction to the movie upon release.

Next is “The Evil Dead: Treasures from the Cutting Room Floor” which is an hour long of deleted scenes and alternate takes which some I have never seen before.  some really cool gory stuff in here.  A must watch.

Then onto “The Ladies of the Dead Meet Bruce Campbell” which is where Bruce sits down with the three ladies of the film in present time and discuss the making of the movie.  Tons of hilarious anecdotes and confessions are made here.  Very entertaining. This runs about 30 minutes.

Next is “Discovering The Evil Dead” which is a cool feature that tells in 13 minutes how this movie made history and went on to success.

Next up is the 20 minute “Unconventional” which has the stars joined by Rob Tapert and Ted Raimi now and shows them discussing their insights and careers in the horror genre.  Really great watch.

The 12 minute “At the Drive-In” extra shows the entire cast at an outdoor screening of Evil Dead in Chicago giving away dvds to fans who answer trivia.  Pretty funny.

This 30 minute “Reunion Panel” is an extension of the previous extra which is basically a Q&A session.  Great great stuff here.

This short two minute feature entitled “The Book of the Dead: The Other Pages” shows Ash looking through the entire book and seeing every page.  Really creepy and cool artwork you have never seen.

An even shorter 1 minute make up test is shown.

Trailers of the film.

This is a must own for any fan of the horror genre or Bruce Campbell fan.  This bluray looks tip top and I am looking forward to showing friends this after midnight.

Zombieland 2 Has Been Written

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 7th, 2010

Since the opening of Zombieland it was clear that a sequel was going to be in the works.  The director Ruben Fleischer will be returning to direct and Rhett Reese and Paul Wenick were put to work to write the sequel.

Well they knocked out a first draft and it seems that the original cast will be back for another tale of Zombieland.  I just do not know yet on how much they will be in the film or if the film will follow another set of survivors.  Ruben also told the press that he might want to explore Zombieland further in the future and also show a few scenes before the outbreak hit.

Ruben is currently filming “30 Minutes or Less” and has got another deal to make a Buddy Action Cop movie for Dreamworks so Zombieland might be a few years away.  But I can breathe easy knowing that Zombieland 2 will happen.

Ruben said this to MTV: “What’s fun about the sequel is we have freedom and flexibility to show different periods. We might have scenes before the zombies, or we might have some months after, or potentially stuff further down the road. Through the voice-over and the way the movie is structured, we can really explore all different sides of it.  When it comes to 3-D, I feel pretty strongly that you should shoot it in camera,” he said. “I feel like it just looks so much better. If you’re going to make a 3-D movie, go ahead and make a 3-D movie. I would definitely, if we do  “Zombieland 2″, make it in 3-D and want to shoot it in 3-D.”

I wonder if in Zombieland 2 we will get another kick-ass cameo.  It is hard to beat Bill Murray.  It would be great if they ran into Bruce Campbell.

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

201407_ban7_fv_maniac4_hero_970

In news that I never thought I’d get to write, ‘Drive‘ director Nicolas Winding Refn and his production company Space Rocket Nation, has teamed up with Vendian Entertainment and Wild Bunch to produce and distribute a number genre and edgy films for new filmmakers. The first film to be put on the spotlight will be a remake of ‘Maniac Cop‘. I know, I laughed at first, then threw my fist in the air with excitement.

The Best Trailer You’ll See is ‘Ash vs Evil Dead’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 10th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

11070925_426786627503135_1142696551623537268_n

Alright you primitive screwheads, listen up. The full-length trailer for ‘Ash vs. Evil Dead‘ series on Starz is finally here, which debuted at Comic Con. This is basically the sequel to ‘Army of Darkness‘ we have all been waiting for and it looks like it’s going to be the best show to even air on pay cable. Bruce ‘man-god’ Campbell is in great shape and still has the Ash character down pact. This looks scary, funny as hell, gory, entertaining, and chock full of glorious one-liners that I just don’t know what I’ll do until the series airs this Fall. So grab your chainsaw and Boomstick and enjoy this Incredible trailer. I’ve watched it more than a baker’s dozen times already.

Hey Deadites, Jana here,

evil-dead-movie-poster-small

Who hasn’t heard the age-old story of a couple of buddies heading out into the woods, evil woods, fumbling around looking for a cabin. Instead of a relaxing break from the mundane, they discover the ‘Necronomicon‘, or basically the ‘Book of the Dead‘. It’s not just a book in a dead language, there’s a taped translation of the text! How lucky could they be, right?! Instead of staying away from the creepy vibes that have to be emanating from this unholy tome, they do what a handful of morons would do and play the thing! Of course, this releases an evil so heinous that one by one the moronic teens are possessed until it’s down to one to defeat the evil dead and survive the night.
