Film Review: ‘Bridge of Spies’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 14th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

‘Bridge of Spies’ by DreamWorks Studios.

The year 2015 gives us yet another Tom Hanks/Steven Spielberg movie called ‘Bridge of Spies‘ with an added bonus of the Coen Bros. serving as co-writers. Now with a cast and crew like this, I expect something that would live on forever and win all the awards come award season. That’s not really the case here though, as Spielberg’s recent directorial efforts have been lacking a bit. I’m not saying they’re bad, I’m just saying that ‘War Horse‘ and ‘Lincoln‘ were long, slow, dreary period pieces with no real momentum, despite some awards and critical acclaim.

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 8th, 2017

The first trailer and poster for the film ‘The Post‘ is standing straight up. It’s a big deal, because it has Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep in the lead roles with Steven Spielberg in the director’s chair. That’s a powerhouse right there. The film will release on December 22nd, just in time for the holidays, but really, they want to get it in for Oscar consideration. The film releases everywhere next year on January 12. In addition to Hanks and Streep, the film stars Alison Brie, Carrie Coon, David Cross, Bruce Greenwood, Tracy Letts, Bob Odenkirk, Sarah Paulson, Jesse Plemons, Matthew Rhys, Michael Stuhlbarg, Bradley Whitford, and Zach Woods.

Film Review: ‘The BFG’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 29th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

maxresdefault

I’m just thankful that Steven Spielberg is not doing awful period pieces like his last films, including ‘Lincoln‘, ‘War Horse‘, and ‘Bridge of Spies‘. Yes, those films won Oscars, but I’m willing to bet you’ve only seen the once and will never see them again. I’m thankful and excited that Spielberg has returned, at least for a few films into his magical world of sci-fi, which he excels at. This time around, Spielberg is tackling the children’s story of ‘The BFG‘ or ‘Big Friendly Giant’, by the great author Roald Dahl (‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory‘, ‘Matilda‘, ‘James and the Giant Peach‘, and ‘The Witches‘).

When you hear of a film that has Steven Spielberg attached to it, you can automatically expect greatness because the director consistently delivers. Matt Charman and Marc Platt worked with Spielberg on the amazing ‘Bridge of Spies‘ are joining forces once again on a new project, this time the focus will be on legendary newscaster Walter Cronkite and the Vietnam War.

You might know this guy by his given name of Vince Curatola, if you’re like me though, you yelled “It’s Johnny Sack!” before you read the rest of the article. I’m a proud product of an HBO education and ‘The Sopranos‘ was my meat and potatoes. Curatola was absolutely perfect as Johnny Sack and was always being accused of being part of a certain Italian-American subculture. Now he’s found another role that seems cherry picked for him in CBS FIlms and Lionsgate’s project about the Boston Marathon bombing, ‘Patriots Day‘.

And the 2016 Golden Globe Nominees Are….

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 10th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

53fe9c57-1190-4d61-b197-fcda11fc89af

The awards show is January 10 on NBC hosted by Ricky Gervais. First off, let’s look at something AWESOME here. ‘MAD MAX: FURY ROAD‘ is nominated for BEST PICTURE. It needs to win. It should win. And if does win, we all go streaking. That being said…I can’t believe that ‘Me and Earl and the Dying Girl‘ was not nominated for anything. Come on. It’s one of the BEST films of the year. It’s also interesting to see no love for the final season of ‘Mad Men’ her either. Oh well.

Here is the list of nominees:

Enjoy the first trailer for ‘The BFG’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 9th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

screen-shot-2015-12-09-at-9-37-12-am

The BFG‘ trailer has arrived and looks quite good. This is a Steven Spielberg project, based on the Roald Dahl book of the same name. The BFG stands for Big Friendly Giant if you were unaware. The trailer is a tiny bit scary and mysterious, but looks like a fun adventure. Mark Rylance (‘Bridge of Spies‘) plays the giant with Rebecca Hall, Bill Hader, Jemaine Clement and Ruby Barnhill starring in the film. I can’t wait for this one. ‘The BFG’ opens July 1st 2016. Enjoy.
