Hey guys, Jana here,

bill_paxton_daniel_radcliffe_split

Most everyone is familiar with the game ‘Grand Theft Auto‘. It encourages the player to immerse themselves into a fantasy, criminal underworld where jacking cars is a necessity and shooting rival gangsters, cops, or prostitutes is fair game. When you have a game that envelops that kind of violence, it naturally draws opposition. That opposing voice comes from parents being concerned about the content their children are absorbing, it comes from politicians pandering to the voters while touting negative values as a direct result of exposure to GTA. Each of those voices has one thing in common, their desire to ban the game.

‘Top Gear’ Season One BBC!!! (A DVD Review)

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 8th, 2011

Hi Bryan Here….

The hit British show ‘Top Gear’ came to American television last year and since then has become a HUGE hit in the states.  And now it has a second season.  I’m not a huge car or vehicle watching fan, but I must say, after watching this DVD, I can’t wait to see the second season.  It has some really cool cars doing some insane experiments and tests with  a few hosts and celebrity guests.  It is a lot of fun to watch and informative.  I learned so much by watching this.  Definitely recommended.

Soundtracks we want to see released on Vinyl!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 15th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

preview

I just love soundtracks to movies. I always have and I believe I always will. There is something about a score to a film that just perks me up in all the right ways and inspires my creative side, whether it be to write a screenplay or go back an watch that old film I love. Music is an integral part to films and is considered to be the mojo of every movie. I’m sure we’ve all seen that odd YouTube video of the final scene in Star Wars: A New Hope, where Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Chewbacca walk down a crowded arena to receive their medals to zero music. It’s super weird and awkward with no music, but just random sound effects of footsteps and a rare cough, laugh, and Chewie’s roar. John Williams did such a great job, as he always does with Star Wars music, but that final scene of music really puts your emotions on full blast. It’s all from the soundtrack too.

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

81b9ddee396ef2fabbc0bb1635a845ae

If there ever was a guitar player besides Jimi Hendrix that should get his own documentary, it should be Eric Clapton. This guy not only produced and created some of the best mix of blues and rock songs, but he did enough cocaine, heroine, and alcohol that would have killed everyone in Bangkok overnight. And those people know how to party with the lady-boys. The documentary is called ‘Eric Clapton: A Life in 12 Bars‘ and will be directed by Lili Fini Zanuck, which sounds like a fake name.

Hey guys, Jana here,

neilgaiman1

When Neil Gaiman wants to tell you a story, you stop and listen. Having said that, listen up!

According to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch (the world’s only completely accurate book of prophecies, written in 1655, before she exploded), the world will end on a Saturday. Next Saturday, in fact. Just before dinner.

So the armies of Good and Evil are amassing, Atlantis is rising, frogs are falling, tempers are flaring. Everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. Except a somewhat fussy angel and a fast-living demon—both of whom have lived amongst Earth’s mortals since The Beginning and have grown rather fond of the lifestyle—are not actually looking forward to the coming Rapture.

And someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist . . .

You or I couldn’t come up with something this wonderful, but Neil Gaiman and Sir Terry Pratchett could, and they did. ‘Good Omens‘ is what it’s better known as and it’s gloriously funny in the way only these brilliant writers could be. I’m not sure what emotion I like more, the absolute elation I felt as I read the book, or the giddy joy in finding out that this book has made the long trek to being realized as a series on Amazon Prime!!!

Oh yes, you read that right, and it’s only taken 27 years. What could possibly be better you ask? Neil Gaiman will PERSONALLY be handling the adaptation, writing each script and serving as the showrunner. Amazon Studios and BBC will co-produce what is to be 6 hour-long episodes that will air in 2018. The great thing, for those of us with an Amazon Prime subscription, is that the miniseries will premiere on Amazon Prime video first before it goes to BBC.

Hey guys, Jana here,

slide_1_image

New music releases from now defunct bands or artists that have passed on isn’t really a new thing. We’ve seen enough posthumous releases that nothing should really shock us anymore, right? Every now and them a producer comes up with a mind-blowing vision to have current artists cover titles from an artist’s catalog to give it a face lift while still keeping a little something of the original artist. Covers are a hard tightrope to walk, you know? Either there’s no way in hell you can live up to the original hype or the new version sounds so good you make everyone feel guilty for liking it more than the former.

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

planetearthii

BBC is bringing us ‘Planet Earth II‘, which looks to be everything we could have hoped for. Has it really been ten years since the original series? This new trailer looks incredible with and excellent music score and some of the best photography I’ve ever seen. I can’t wait to watch this and then watch in in 4K. Enjoy this trailer. I think I could watch this over and over again. Wait, I just did.

Film Review: ‘Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie’!!

by Janet White on Jul 22nd, 2016

Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…

Absolutely Fabulous - P & E

At long last, the quirky and off the wall TV show comes to the big screen. Personally, I never knew about Absolutely Fabulous the TV show, but the pre-awareness of this show was quite evident in the audience. I was surrounded by a cacophony of hoots and yells from the show’s loyal following which lasted the duration of the film.   Read the rest of this entry »

Hey guys, Jana here,

mvsyagnxsseia2te2kkl

In the large series run of ‘Doctor Who‘, the actor that embodies the companion is almost, if not, more important than the actor we see on our screens that we call “The Doctor” for a few seasons. Go into any chat room dedicated to BBC’s ‘Doctor Who‘ and you’ll find at least one discussion thread that debates the best companion. To get into that discussion, it would depend on if we’re talking about “Classic Who” or “New Who”, I sound like Dr. Seuss about now but there are layers to a good debate about companions.

Hillary Thomas’ Top 5 Films and Best TV Shows of 2015!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 29th, 2015

Hillary T., Here…

Best2015_660

As a writer for Boomstick Comics, we are charged with going to see a lot of movies. I thought that this past year, I saw quite a few. Apparently, with the opening of the Alamo Drafthouse in Richardson, the movies I saw this past year weren’t all new. There were some that were classic programming at a new venue. What can I say? James Wallace knows that I like (“Sixteen Candles”, “Aliens”, “Big Trouble In Little China”, “True Grit”, and “Conan” just to name a few), but I did see a “Few Good Movies.”

And the 2016 Golden Globe Nominees Are….

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 10th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

53fe9c57-1190-4d61-b197-fcda11fc89af

The awards show is January 10 on NBC hosted by Ricky Gervais. First off, let’s look at something AWESOME here. ‘MAD MAX: FURY ROAD‘ is nominated for BEST PICTURE. It needs to win. It should win. And if does win, we all go streaking. That being said…I can’t believe that ‘Me and Earl and the Dying Girl‘ was not nominated for anything. Come on. It’s one of the BEST films of the year. It’s also interesting to see no love for the final season of ‘Mad Men’ her either. Oh well.

Here is the list of nominees:
