Hey guys, Jana here,

FX has given us the poster, a teaser and the title of the seventh season of ‘American Horror Story‘ and it is ‘Cult‘. Co-creator Ryan Murphy has previously stated that this season was inspired by the 2016 presidential election. The trailer makes me think of a bad My Chemical Romance video at first, but if you, or someone close to you, is terrified of clowns, this will be enough to give them a bit of shock that is set to come our way when the series debuts September 5, 2017.

September 14, 2016 will see the sixth season of ‘American Horror Story‘ debut on FX. The looming question for each new chapter in the AHS anthology is “What will this season’s theme be?” We don’t have anything definitively stated from FX or the showrunners, but we can do some deductive thinking on the teasers that have been given along the way.

Ryan Murphy sat as King of a mega panel Sunday as he doled out, in tiny increments what little bit of info he wanted us to have about his series ‘AHS: Hotel‘. Murphy is infamous for keeping his cards close to the vest and not letting much info out until he’s ready to debut his work, so this is a huge scoop regarding a highly anticipated series that is not yet ready for public consumption.

But we do know that the anthology series was picked up for a fifth season, which is due to air in October. Lady Gaga has just been cast as one of the main roles in the upcoming season.

‘American Horror Story’ Renewed For Fifth Season!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Oct 13th, 2014

Hey guys, Jana here,

American-Horror-Story-Freak-Show

Ryan Murphy has some good ideas and even better success with the TV series those ideas grow into. What starts as a thought, turns into a multi-million dollar hit that networks should fight over. FX has taken a solid stand beside Murphy with ‘American Horror Story‘. What started out as a quirky storyline with one hell of a supernatural undercurrent became the AHS we love. With a unique setting and storyline for each season, the fan following seemed to grow overnight and never went away.

Film Review: ‘American Girl: Grace Stirs Up Success’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 15th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

THE FILM

Yet another ‘American Girl‘ film has been released under the name ‘Grace Stirs Up Success‘. If you’re unfamiliar with the ‘American Girl‘ franchise, you can read my previous hardcore action review of ‘Saige Paints the Sky‘. ‘American Girl‘ is basically a line of actual play dolls for girls ages 4-12. None of the films in this series have anything to do with a doll, but rather try and tell these young girls what life is really like on the outside once out of a federal prison, which brings us to ‘Grace Stirs Up Success‘.

The brains behind ‘American Horror Story‘, ‘Nip/Tuck‘ and ‘Glee‘ has struck again! Fox is the host network for Ryan Murphy’s musical atrocity, ‘Glee‘, now that the Rachel Berry gag-fest has it’s series ending in sight, around May of 2015, the network is wanting to replace the high-school sing-along with more Murphy. Director/Producer/Writer/Creator Murphy can command just about anything he wants on the small screen. FX has already extended the life of their powerhouse supernatural thriller anthology ‘American Horror Story‘ as we reported here. In addition to the horror serial, FX has greenlighted a new collection from Murphy, ‘American Crime Story‘, read the details here .

Hey guys, Jana here,

What do ‘Glee‘, ‘American Horror Story‘ and ‘Nip/Tuck‘ all have in common? If you guessed the same creator, I saw you look it up, but you’re right! Besides being the Emmy Award-Winning mind behind the shows, he wrote and directed various episodes of those, as well. Ryan Murphy is a good name to bet on in the game of innovative TV series because he is still a wild card in the game. Coming at a time where numerous movies are being greenlit for adaptation to the small screen, an original idea is pure money.

Clint Eastwood is making a Horror/Thriller Movie

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 12th, 2010

Badass clint Eastwood is currently hard at work on his new movie called “Hereafter”. It is currently slated to come out in October near Halloween. I am very curious to see how Clint takes on the supernatural thriller genre.

Matt Damon, Jay Mohr, and Bryce Dallas Howard are starring in the film.

The film synopsis according to Warner Bros. is: “Hereafter” tells the story of three people who are haunted by mortality in different ways. Matt Damon stars as George, a blue–collar American who has a special connection to the afterlife. On the other side of the world, Marie (Cécile de France), a French journalist, has a near–death experience that shakes her reality. And when Marcus (Frankie/George McLaren), a London schoolboy, loses the person closest to him, he desperately needs answers. Each on a path in search of the truth, their lives will intersect, forever changed by what they believe might—or must—exist in the hereafter.”

Sounds great doesn’t it.  Click HERE to see the trailer in glorious quicktime.

The Catcher in the Rye took the U.S. by storm nearly from its initial printing. The author, J.D. Salinger, transformed from obscurity to magnified limelight causing him to retract from the world. The more the public wanted to know him or be his infamous character, Holden Caulfield, the more withdrawn Salinger became which increased the mystery. In the past 66 years, the novel has been printed, re-printed, translated and massively distributed throughout the world. Schools have both required and banned the reading for reasons of profanity and its message. Rebel in the Rye details Salinger’s (Nicholas Hoult) life and progression as a writer. Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…

Nerve - Cinematography

To quote Marianne Williamson, Author and Lecturer: “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It’s not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

Bryan’s Best and Worst of 2014 List!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 22nd, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

Wright_39_s_Top_10_Films_of_2014

I can’t believe how fast this year has gone by. 2014 was an interesting year to say the least, most of which was great. Movie-wise, I think 2014 had some excellent films filling its theaters, but of course it had some real stinkers too. Below is my list of the Best and Worst films of 2014 with some added categories down at the bottom. I believe this year I watched over 145 new films, theatrically speaking and it was very difficult to narrow them down from 25. After some chocolate snacks covered in marshmallow cream, I finally had a TOP 10. But when you talk about the Best movies, you have to mention the worst too. My list tends to be a tad bit different from others, but hey, I’m twisted. I highly encourage you to seek out these movies – good or bad and enjoy the rest of your year.

Premiere Of FX's "American Horror Story: Coven"

In the wake of wickedly successful series like ‘Game of Thrones‘ that prove period pieces are bankable projects, BBC has set the cast for their newest series epic, ‘The Last Kingdom‘. Bernard Cornwell is the author of at least 8 novels that comprise ‘The Saxon Stories‘, the first in the series being ‘The Last Kingdom‘. The series is a continuing historical novel about 9th and 10th century Britain. We meet Uhtred Ragnarson, born a Saxon then kidnapped by raiding Danes who raise him from the age of 10, teaching him how to be a warrior. When his Danish father is killed, Uhtred joins King Alfred of Wessex. The series takes history and slightly embellishes events, details and people, so that what is presented is not a straight true historical story, but a marriage of historical fact and fictional characters.

Hey guys, Jana here,

from-hell-main

From Hell‘ may sound like the name of a Johnny Depp film from the early 2000’s and you would be right. What began as a 500 page graphic novel by Alan Moore and Eddie Campbell, then re-worked into a 20th Century Fox film starring Depp and Robbie Coltrane. There may be a bit of a detective vibe here but don’t expect a Sherlock-type reveal. Where Jack the Ripper was quite selective of his victims, the murders themselves created an equality among the classes with fear being the common denominator. Thus ends today’s master class in ‘From Hell‘.

Hey guys, Jana here,

When Tim Burton makes a new movie, it gets attention. Be it good, bad or ugly, people talk about it. The newest film to add to the cannon of Burton films is ‘Big Eyes‘. His latest live action film since 2012’s ‘Dark Shadows‘.  A drama centered on the awakening of the painter Margaret Keane, her extravagant success in the 1950’s and the following legal problems she had with her husband. Why did she have legal problems with her husband, you ask? He claimed credit for her paintings in the 1960’s. Talk about a maladjusted marriage! Makes Ike and Tina Turner look like a model of marriage perfection.

Janet W., Here….

hercules-the-rock-ftr

I know what you’re thinking…another Hercules film?  The Greek myth of the legendary son of Zeus and a mortal woman, Alcmene.  Brett Ratner’s Hercules is a different kind of animal.  At first, Hercules opens a lot like The Scorpion King.  A nephew of Hercules (Dwayne Johnson), Iolaus (Reece Ritchie), is bound and about to be killed.  Iolaus tells his would be murderers tales of the victories of Hercules.  Enter Hercules through heavy plumes of smoke, which is quite close to Mathayus emerging from the soot of the fireplace in The Scorpion King.

Hello, Jana here,

 alwayssunny_daemonstv

FX has done exceptionally well for themselves with regards to successful original programming. Shows like ‘Justified‘, ‘Sons of Anarchy‘, ‘American Horror Story‘ and ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia‘ have become proven fan favorites. and mark pretty high viewer numbers that definitely make this network a proven competitor in the battle for a target audience.

NBC is Remaking ‘Ironside’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 4th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here…..

Blair-Underwood

NBC is brining back ‘Ironside‘ to the small screen with Blair Underwood playing Robert T. Ironside, who was originally played by Raymond Burr. If you remember, ‘Ironside‘ was a TV series from that aired from 1967-1975 and focused on a sardonic and intelligent detective who is confined to a wheelchair, and just happens to solve some of the most bizarre crimes in San Francisco.

Hi, Bryan Here….

globes-drink

The Golden Globes were last night and Tina Fey and Amy Poehler killed it. They were amazing.  Even former president Bill Clinton showed up to talk about Spielberg’s ‘Lincoln‘.  Even though I really liked the film ‘Argo‘, I was shocked when it won best film and director for Ben Affleck. I was happy to see ‘Django Unchained‘ win for best supporting actor for Christoph Waltz and screenplay for Tarantino. If this is any pre-cursor to the Oscars, I’d be completely let down if ‘Argo‘ takes it all.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great film, but not the best film of the year.  I expect it to and want it to win the best adapted screenplay.  Just my opinion.  Below are the full results from last night’s show.

Hi, Bryan Here….

The nominations came in this morning and needless to say, I went into a fit of rage.  I mean I was so mad, I almost wrote a letter.  After going through the list of nominees, while some of the noms were well deserved, many were not, especially in the FILM categories.  There needs to be a serious uprooting process at the Golden Globes where everyone involved in voting needs to be replaced by others who know what they’re doing.

2012 Emmy Award Winners!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 24th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

Below is the list of the winners for the 2012 Prime-Time Emmy Award Winners.  I don’t  see how ‘Modern Family’ and ‘Two and Half Men’ win anything.  They shouldn’t win any kind of award when they go up against shows like ‘Mad Men’, ‘Game of Thrones’, and ‘Breaking Bad’.  The Emmy judges need to be fired and never allowed to pick winners ever again.  However, much congratulations to ‘Homeland’, ‘Downton Abbey’, Aaron Paul, ‘Veep’, and ‘American Horror Story’

Another Year, Another Paranormal Activity Movie!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 4th, 2012

Hi Bryan Here….

This is turning out like a ‘Saw’ franchise or a Nightmare on Elm St. franchise.  I see why.  I get it.  These films are made for almost nothing and every one of them make tons and tons of money.  Just like the ‘Saw’ films.  Well now, Paranormal Activity 4 will open this year on October 19th.  The last two Paranormal Activity films opened up around the Halloween time.  Paranormal Activity 3 was made for 5 million dollars and is almost at the $200 million dollar mark.  So you can see, why they are pumping these out every 12 months.  Makes sense business wise.

Fantastic Fest is one of the events that is pure bliss for any fan of genre cinema. If you love horror, sci-fi, foreign, action, and even adult-oriented movies from the 1970s, then Fantastic Fest is the place to let that freak flag fly high and be with like-minded individuals that truly appreciate the art of movies. All of the madness and fun will take place in Austin, TX starting on September 20th and run for 10 days at the Alamo Drafthouse on South Lamar St. This year, which is the 14th annual festival of Fantastic-ness, captures the essence of the Korean movie scene with a ton of cool films being showcased from Korea, both new and old. This is something you won’t want to miss.

The first wave of movies has been announced, including the World Premiere of the WWII horror movie called ‘OVERLORD‘ from J.J. Abrams. In addition to that film, Fantastic Fest will host Gareth Evans‘ horror movie ‘APOSTLE‘. Gareth gave us the amazing films ‘THE RAID‘ AND ‘THE RAID 2‘, so you can expect some insane fight scenes and horrific imagery. Alos, a film called ‘THE NIGHT COMES FOR US‘, which stars the badass from those ‘RAID‘ movies will be shown, meaning Iko Uwais will stun us once again with his amazing physical skills. If you were a fan of ‘THE GREASY STRANGLER‘, the director of that movie Jim Hosking has a new film called ‘AN EVENING WITH BEVERLY LUFF LINN‘, which is being described as a David Lynch meets John Waters type of movie. You had me at Greasy Strangler.

Lastly, there are some vintage films coming through from AGFA (American Genre Film Archive), one of which has peaked my interest from the title alone – ‘MARY JANE’S NOT A VIRGIN ANYMORE‘. I have high hopes for this one. Below is the list of films with cast and crew info, along with a brief synopsis. Enjoy and hope to see you all there.

Jana’s Best of 2017!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jan 1st, 2018

Hey guys, Jana here,

I know these “Best of 2017” lists should technically be published in 2017, but why would I start 2018 any differently than I lived the majority of my adult life: Procrastinating and underachieving. What can I say? That’s my wheelhouse.

For a year that put a spotlight on some of the shittiest behavior by some of the Hollywood elite, it was actually a good year for TV and movies. I didn’t limit myself in number because as I moved on with the brackets, I felt like I was making ‘Sophie’s Choice‘ on some of these, so they’re all getting in! I’m feeling my inner-Oprah here, You’ve made the list! You made the list! EVERYBODY made the list!! In order to spare myself any arguments, I’m stating up front that my picks for the “Best of 2017” are not edited in regards to scandal or hideous human behavior.

Soundtracks we want to see released on Vinyl!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 15th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

preview

I just love soundtracks to movies. I always have and I believe I always will. There is something about a score to a film that just perks me up in all the right ways and inspires my creative side, whether it be to write a screenplay or go back an watch that old film I love. Music is an integral part to films and is considered to be the mojo of every movie. I’m sure we’ve all seen that odd YouTube video of the final scene in Star Wars: A New Hope, where Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Chewbacca walk down a crowded arena to receive their medals to zero music. It’s super weird and awkward with no music, but just random sound effects of footsteps and a rare cough, laugh, and Chewie’s roar. John Williams did such a great job, as he always does with Star Wars music, but that final scene of music really puts your emotions on full blast. It’s all from the soundtrack too.

The premise of ‘Camera Obscura‘ sounds suspiciously familiar—a cursed camera that predicts the imminent deaths of its subjects through developed photographs. Now where have we heard this tale before? Oh, right – ‘Say Cheese and Die!’ anyone? Despite its’ darker and deranged additions to the storyline, even new-comer Director Aaron Koontz recognizes the film’s traced concept and aligned clichés by adding the defining bit of dialogue, “This sounds like a bad episode of Goosebumps!”

Blu-ray Review: ‘The Conjuring 2’

THE FILM

It seems like a ton of horror movies come out every year, and most times, they don’t live up to their potential. There are a handful of horror movies over the last decade that really satisfy us horror fans. Films like ‘The Babadook‘, ‘It Follows‘, and ‘The Conjuring‘ will still be talked about for years to come. One name in the horror genre, or at least in recent years is James Wan. This man burst onto the scene with ‘Saw‘, which was basically genre changing and spawned a ton of sequels. Wan also made a few other horror films, all testing the bounds and pushing us into a new horror direction, while still respecting his influences.
