Film Review: ‘A Monster Calls’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 4th, 2017

Dan M., here…

maxresdefault

A Monster Calls’ is a kid version of ‘Manchester by the Sea’. I mean that in the nicest way possible. As one of 15 alleged movie fans in America who didn’t love ‘Manchester by the Sea’ (I hope this doesn’t hurt my review street cred) it is important for me to compare these two films, which at their core, deal with loss, grief, and growing up. The amazing part for me is that I think ‘A Monster Calls’ tackles these themes and issues in a more effective manner.

‘King Cohen’ Blu-ray Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 18th, 2018

Larry Cohen is one of those old-school filmmakers that has been around a long time and is universally loved in the business. Cohen is mostly known for his B-movie films and having a penchant for not taking “no” for an answer. His filmmaking methods are pioneering and risky, but all have been a big success in their own way. Over the past few decades, Choen has amassed a ton of great friendships with other filmmakers, who all talk about Cohen her in this documentary called ‘King Cohen‘.

Angelic Heel Once Again!

The last Raw before Extreme Rules (which can be seen on the WWE Network, FREE for the month of April to new subscribers) was an intense emotional roller coaster. The Apex Predator stalked the halls RKOing anyone and everyone, the WWE Universe learned who the #1 Contenders to the Tag titles were, and there appeared to be trouble in the Authority family. This hard hitting installment of the longest running episodic television show did not disappoint and kept the hits coming. Did you miss it? Wanna know what happened? Find out now!

A week in the grand scheme of things is a short span of time consisting of seven days. A week waiting for the fall out show for NXT Takeover: R Evolution? An eternity. WWE: TLC 2014 Review!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 15th, 2014

Angi S., Here…

TLC14_Photo_221-1749128513

Oh My! It was complete chaos last night for the WWE’s Tables, Ladders, and Chairs Pay Per View. This year we also got to see the debut of a Stairs match, effectively changing the name of this fun ppv to Tables, Ladders, and Chairs (and Stairs). I have been chomping at the bit for the weeks leading up to this one and the main roster had a lot to live up to following the developmental brands NXT Takeover: R Evolution. What worked? What didn’t? Who grabbed the brass ring and who needs to be smacked up side the head with it? How was my heart broken yet AGAIN?! All this and more as I break down what happened at WWE’s TLC(S) PPV.

Here Is Ben’s Film Review of ‘Godzilla’ (2014)!!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 15th, 2014

Ben K., Here…

godzilla-2014-wallpaper-images-photos-0302091031

Despite a rich and incredibly varied film history, one would be hard pressed to imagine a more famous Japanese cinematic export than Godzilla. Born at Toho Company in 1954, he’s still alive and kicking ass, as it were, at the ripe age of sixty. Cast as a villain and a hero over the years, whatever his role, he has always been nature’s favorite solution to just about any problem. Six decades ago he was awakened by atomic bomb testing and took revenge on mankind for creating them. In this new Gareth Edwards iteration, other monsters feed on radiation from our nuclear power plants in order to wreak similar havoc, so Godzilla is sent to annihilate them.

Film Review: ‘Enemy’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 20th, 2014

Hi, Bryan Here….

enemy-movie-review-09102013-185137

Director Denis Villeneuve is on a roll here. Denis worked with Jake Gyllenhaal on the hit movie last year called ‘Prisoners‘, which starred Gyllenhaal, Hugh Jackman, Paul Dano, and Terrence Howard. But not a lot of people know that Denis and Gyllenhaal filmed a movie right before they started ‘Prisoners‘, but has not been released until now. That film is called ‘Enemy‘, and it completely hypnotized me for the entire 90 minutes.

Film Review: ‘World War Z’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 20th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here…..

World-War-Z-Wallpapers

A well structured story was left on the back burner of the latest Hollywood apocalyptic zombie movie, ‘World War Z‘. Instead, we have a $200 million dollar action film that delivers on a few suspenseful situations as Brad Pitt is the one man to save the world from the sudden world-wide zombie epidemic. I imagine that with Brad Pitt starring in this zombie genre film, box office receipts will do well enough to compete with Pixar’sMonster’s University‘, but might have a difficult time making ends meet with its mega budget and long list of production problems the project had over the last few years.

Hi, Bryan Here….

Joss Whedon’s Avengers is what every comic book geek and action film fanatic has dreamed of since they were a little kid.  Not only was it one of the most epic films ever shot on film, but Whedon used his wit and unique story telling to weave these iconic characters into a team that destroys evil.  You see, it’s not all about the people who form a team and save our planet.  It’s about a group of people from different times and different worlds, who necessarily don’t belong together, but realize that by teaming up, they form something bigger than themselves.  And notice that I don’t use the term superhero.  None of the Avengers refer to themselves or think of themselves as heroes, with the exception of Captain America, who really is the only hero in the story.
