Film Review: ‘Zero Dark Thirty’

by Woozie on Jan 3rd, 2013

Suzanne here,

zerodarkthirtyposter

It would be very easy when creating a movie about the hunt for Osama Bin Laden to take an “America, Fuck Yeah” kind of tone, but director Kathryn Bigelow and writer Mark Boal achieve something much more valuable. Zero Dark Thirty instead presents a quietly intense story about a woman obsessed and a methodical illustration of how U.S. intelligence worked to ultimately take down the architect of 911. Film Review: ‘[Detroit]’!!

by Janet White on Jul 29th, 2017

Hello Everyone, Janet W.  here…

Fifty years ago (to the day I screened Detroit), atrocities occurred in Detroit, Michigan. July 25, 1967 has been a day of woe for generations past and will be for those to come. Effectively capturing the events of this time, Detroit offers a raw in-your-face journey into the debasement of human beings simply because of their color. Such actions led to outrage which brewed to boiling over due to criminal misconduct and murder performed by police officers escalated to several days of rioting and worse. Black people helping the crooked cops unlawfully abuse and imprison other black people. Read the rest of this entry »

Hey guys, Jana here,

large_attack-the-block-2

Kathryn Bigelow is the director behind ‘Zero Dark Thirty‘, ‘The Hurt Locker‘ and ‘K19: The Widowmaker‘ and she’s got a new project in the early stages of production. So early it’s just called an ‘Untitled Detroit Project‘ at the moment. It’s a crime drama written by Mark Boal, set in Detroit 1967. The project will tackle a police raid resulting in one of the largest citizen uprisings in United States’ history spanning 5 days. It’s planned for a 2017 release date just in time for the 50th anniversary of the riots.

Film Review: ‘The Huntsman: Winter’s War’!!

by Janet White on Apr 23rd, 2016

Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…

Huntsman

Let’s say just say it…Snow White and the Huntsman was not well done. The Huntsman: Winter’s War is the hot and cold shell that envelops its predecessor.  It’s not perfect, but is action enjoyment coupled with corny sporadic humor.  Not to mention, Chris Hemsworth finally got his balls back.  I can tell you that.  Snow White and the Huntsman emasculated the action-packed hunk of man that is Hemsworth.  Though some believe that this story should not have been told, but I enjoyed the unveiling of the back-backstory.  The film could have been structured to be less predictable but sometimes you just have to sit back and enjoy a film for your base needs: adrenaline, fear, and desire.

Hey guys, Jana here,

point-break-poster-2015-888x489

The first trailer for the ‘Point Break‘ revamp is making waves. I’m not much of a fan of remakes to begin with, but when you take a Patrick Swayze movie that isn’t old enough to need re-telling and bastardize it, I get a little huffy.

Hey guys, Jana here,

benghazi_victims_for_site

There are directors that you want telling the heart-wrenchingly true stories based on fact. Spielberg was unflinchingly loyal to history when he made ‘Schindler’s List‘ and ‘Saving Private Ryan‘. Mel Gibson brought the history of William Wallace to life as he led the Scots in revolt against England in ‘Braveheart‘. Ridley Scott dove into the horrific tale of ‘Blackhawk Down‘ and pulled no punches with the details. ‘Act of Valor‘, ‘Zero Dark Thirty‘ and ‘Lone Survivor’ are all cut from the same cloth as the previously mentioned films. The memory and honor of the dead lives on through these fact-based projects. One name you won’t see at the top of my wish list to direct a piece like these is Michael Bay.

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

edgar-ramirez-star-trek-2

We reported earlier last week that Gerard Butler (‘300‘) suddenly dropped out of the remake of ‘Point Break‘, where he was set to play Bodhi, who was played by Patrick Swayze in the original film. Now it seems they had a second option who is the amazing Edgar Ramirez. Ericson Core will be directing from a script from Kurt Wimmer.

20100204104618!Terminator

We’ve been talking about ‘The Terminator‘ reboot for quite some time now. We know that Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) will be playing Sarah Connor and Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty) will be playing John Connor with Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones/Thor:The Dark World) directing. Now we have just found out that actor Jai Courtney (A Good Day To Die Hard) has been cast as Kyle Reese.

Jana B. here,

Tarzan

If you’re like me, there is no story line too far fetched to keep me from gazing at the Nordic god-like appearance of Alexander Skarsgard. I’ve proven that by sitting through ‘Zoolander‘ one too many times and even the disaster of a film that was ‘Battleship‘. Now that I know there is a 3D live-action version of ‘Tarzan‘ going full speed ahead starring the Swedish bombshell, I’m more than a little excited about the idea of Skarsgard appearing on screen most of the time sporting only a loincloth. Thank you Warner Brothers! It comes our way in July 2016, in what will be a tent pole for the company’s summer movie season.

Hi, Bryan Here….

Terminator-terminator-9683150-1024-576

Well, the deal has finally been made. Skynet will go live in 2015 and send Terminators to kill us all.  I kid. I kid. But, Paramount has finally greenlit a trilogy of new rebooted ‘Terminator‘ films, with the first movie releasing June 26th, 2015. That’s two summers away. Megan Ellison, who is the daughter of a multi billionaire, got into the film producing business three years ago and has a pretty successful track record already. She purchased the rights to ‘Terminator‘ in 2011 for over $20 million and now has a three picture deal.

Hi, Bryan Here…..

I don’t know about you, but I really enjoyed the Oscars last night.  I thought McFarlane was great and funny and thought his bits were solid.  All of the musical numbers with the exception of the two 007 SONGS and the song from ‘Ted‘ was quite awful and not fun to watch. Although ‘Beasts of the Southern Wild‘ didn’t win, there was some well-deserved victories. We also had out 6th annual live commentary last night, and it was a great success. I want to thank all of you for participating. We look forward to next year.

It’s official. Chris Pratt will play Star-Lord or Peter Quill in Marvel’sGuardians of the Galaxy‘, directed by James Gunn. Pratt starred in ‘Moneyball‘, ‘Zero Dark Thirty‘, ‘Parks and Rec‘, and ‘Movie 43‘, amongst others. Star-Lord is the leader of the Guardians who is actually the offspring of a human and alien. There were tons of big names courted for this role including Joseph Gordon-Levitt, but it went to Pratt.

Hi, Bryan Here….

globes-drink

The Golden Globes were last night and Tina Fey and Amy Poehler killed it. They were amazing.  Even former president Bill Clinton showed up to talk about Spielberg’s ‘Lincoln‘.  Even though I really liked the film ‘Argo‘, I was shocked when it won best film and director for Ben Affleck. I was happy to see ‘Django Unchained‘ win for best supporting actor for Christoph Waltz and screenplay for Tarantino. If this is any pre-cursor to the Oscars, I’d be completely let down if ‘Argo‘ takes it all.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great film, but not the best film of the year.  I expect it to and want it to win the best adapted screenplay.  Just my opinion.  Below are the full results from last night’s show.

The Oscar Nominations Are In!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 10th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here…..

oscar_statues-4_3_r560

Earlier this morning, Seth MacFarlane and Emma Stone announced the Oscar nominations, which MacFarlane came across as pretty funny.  I’m excited for him to host the Oscars this year.  And, his film ‘Ted‘ actually got nominated. How cool is that?  Below is the full list of Oscar nominations.  Let us know what you think.  We will be posting a separate article soon on Oscar snubs, because believe me, there are many.  And don’t forget, we will be doing our annual LIVE OSCAR COMMENTARY, which will mark the 6th time we have done it.  It promises tons of laughs.

Hi, Bryan Here….

The nominations came in this morning and needless to say, I went into a fit of rage.  I mean I was so mad, I almost wrote a letter.  After going through the list of nominees, while some of the noms were well deserved, many were not, especially in the FILM categories.  There needs to be a serious uprooting process at the Golden Globes where everyone involved in voting needs to be replaced by others who know what they’re doing.
