Wrestlemania 34 is less than 6 months away with Survivor Series and Royal Rumble just around the corner. I do believe that the goal is to have Brock Lesnar in the main event at Wrestlemania 34 with the title in hand. I also believe he aims to lose that title on April 8, 2018 as well. Just not to the usual suspects (Reigns, Strowman, Joe).

Hey guys, Jana here,

Sam Esmail, you know the guy behind the creation of ‘Mr. Robot‘? He’s on tap to take on a Bermuda Triangle project for Universal. Several different sets of writers have taken on the task and not come up with anything the company wants to roll with. This could prove to be an unwritable movie, perhaps plagued by the mysterious things it’s about? One good thing is the previous writers are still accounted for, so they haven’t disappeared completely.

Universal Pictures is rebooting their monster movie franchise and the first tent pole to be staked is ‘The Mummy‘ debuting on June 9, 2017. Director Alex Kurtzman (‘People Like Us‘) worked with a stellar cast to kick off this new universe where all the films will be entwined and venture into each other’s films  à la the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We see the first crossover as Rusell Crowe’s Dr. Henry Jekyll is very visible in this film, or at least in the trailer. The cast includes Sofia Boutella, Tom Cruise, Annabelle Wallis, Chasty Ballesteros, and Courtney B. Vance.

Writer director M. Night Shyamalan (‘The Sixth Sense‘) went from one of the most exciting directors to a cliche joke seemingly overnight after ‘The Village‘ and, especially, the floating turd that was ‘Lady in the Water‘. The man heralded as “the next Spielberg” has seen his stock rise in 2015 with ‘The Visit‘ and once again with ‘Split‘ which many put on par with ‘The Sixth Sense‘. It’s ‘Split‘ that is gathering attention today with the announcement from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment of it’s release to Blu-ray, DVD, Digital HD and On Demand.

Hey guys, Jana here,

the-mummy-poster

I love Universal’s monster movies and I couldn’t have been more thrilled when I heard the company was rebooting the films into huge tentpole events all the while adding more depth to the classic monster universe. First up for renovation was ‘The Mummy‘ with Tom Cruise attached. Say what you will about him personally, or even religiously, but the man can carry a film and I’m nothing but excited for it. I suppose Universal hopes others feel that way, and have gifted us a little teaser to give us a small taste of what this movie can be.

Universal has made no secret about their wanting to re-launch their original monster universe. You know, The Mummy, Dracula, Frankenstein, The Invisible Man, all the favorites, and why not? These are great stories that can be excellent every time they’re retold. What will make the difference now, besides having a damn good special FX team, is the star. Diesel reminisced from two years ago, when he took the same stage with Paul Walker, his costar who died as result of a car crash in 2013, when they announced the plan to move forward on the seventh film in their rocket hot ‘Fast and Furious‘ series.

Film Review: ‘American Made’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 29th, 2017

Audrey E., here….

Cocaine is a hell of a drug. Globally, it is the second most popular and in the ’80’s, it was king. And Director Doug Liman wants you to know that one American is partly responsible for not only the narcotic’s rise in popularity, but also for fueling one of the largest cartels in global history. In the new action biopic, ‘American Made‘, Tom Cruise flies high and returns to familiar aviation territory as Barry Seal, a TSA pilot turned drug smuggler. This role really puts Tom back into his adventurous element and is easily one of his best performances in recent memory. He proves that his charm and charisma isn’t lost, and personal judgements aside, sometimes it takes crazy to play crazy.

4K UHD Review: ‘The Mummy’ (2017)

THE FILM

(This film portion was written by Fernando Martinez)

The Mummy (1999) is by far one of the best movies I’ve ever seen.  Written and directed by Stephen Sommers, it works as an homage to classic monster movies, great adventures, and old school “hero of the day” golden age of cinema films. Starring Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, and what can only be described as a truly breakout performance by Arnold Vosloo as The Mummy Himself, Imhotep!

THE FILM

When you say the name Jordan Peele, you would most likely think of the brilliant comedic stylings of Key and Peele or Peele’s time on MadTV. But I’m willing to bet you wouldn’t think of the words “horror maestro” when you see Jordan Peele’s name come across the screen. Hart takes center stage in this groundbreaking, recordsetting, soldout performance of “What Now?”—filmed outdoors in front of 50,000 people at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field—marking the first time a comedian has ever performed to an atcapacity football stadium. Credit: Frank Masi

An extended opening title sequence takes you through, Kevin Hart, a wannabe James Bond, literally a direct rip of various Bond films. The graphics were pretty cool. Enter the dramatic casino satire, an over-the-top, talking over others’ lines testament to the lunacy of Kevin Hart, Agent 0054. Next comes the stand-up concert that is the meat of Kevin Hart What Now? Hart shoots out of the stage in Trinity (yes, Matrix rip) style and the show begins.

With the film ‘Zoology‘ making the film festival rounds these days, I had the pleasure to do an interview with the writer-director of the film – Ivan I. Tverdovsky. Film Review: ‘The Girl on the Train’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 6th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

68fbb8f3-27e3-4a97-bda7-d9b8d2a05ee4

I can certainly see the appeal of Paula Hawkins’ first successful novel ‘The Girl on the Train‘, which was released in 2015, and was fast-tracked and optioned into a major motion picture by Universal Pictures to come out this weekend. It has some deeply dark and layered characters and tackles a range of emotions and vices from alcoholism, abuse, and even a murder. It’s a good story with a who-done-it angle that feels fresh and original. The problem here is that the film felt a bit rushed and lazy, which gave way to the very slow burn the film has and never quite stays on point with its many flashbacks and timing, often times showing the same scene several times. It just got tedious and redundant twenty minutes in and never stopped being overly dramatic with longing stares, tears, and silence.

This is our inaugural episode our new brand of podcast called ‘Wrestling is Everything is Wrestling‘ or WEW for short, which is part of the Boomstick Comics brand on the Multi-Media Men Podcast label. That was a mouth full. Tom Nix, Bryan Kluger, and Mike Purtill get in the ring and discuss all the good things in wrestling this week, and not just from the WWE, but also from NXT, NJPW, PWG, and even the CWC. Well, let me back-track on that one second. Mike Purtill was not on this podcast, because he was on assignment, attending The Battle of Los Angeles with Pro-Wrestling Guerrilla. Instead, we had a very special guest join us from Austin, TX, named Tyler Mager, who is not only a big wrestling fan, but works for FloSports, which is a cool company that brings you the sports you wouldn’t necessarily see on television from around the world.  We discuss Kevin Owens becoming the Universal WWE Champion, Triple H’s return, The Miz taking on Dolph Ziggler, and much much more.  This was such a fun show and we hope you enjoy!

Film Review: ‘Pete’s Dragon’ (2016)!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 12th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

Petes-Dragon-Movie-Disney-2016

Disney is knocking out some remakes to their beloved classics as of recently and it seems that they are enlisting the help of some great indie filmmakers to take the reigns of their future tentpole films and revamps. The latest being the remake of ‘Pete’s Dragon‘, which originally came out in 1977 and mixed live action with animation. It was a big hit for the studio and became universally loves by children of the 70s and 80s. Cut to present day, and we have Disney making a decent size budget live-action remake of the film with state-of-the-art visual effects and A-List talent behind the film. Not to mention a great indie filmmaker from the DFW area named David Lowery (Ain’t Them Body Saints), to co-write and direct this remake.

Film Review: ‘The Secret Life of Pets’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 7th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

The-Secret-Life-of-Pets-3

It seems like there are a wealth of animated talking animal movies these days. With Pixar, Disney, and DreamWorks releasing ‘Zootopia‘, ‘The Good Dinosaur‘, ‘Finding Dory‘ and ‘Kung Fu Panda 3‘ recently, it only seems fair that Universal dipped their hands into the sub-genre as well with ‘The Secret Life of Pets‘. Universal’s animation studio Illumination Entertainment brought us ‘Despicable Me‘ and those darn ‘Minions‘ to the big screen, which has made the entertainment business billions of dollars. It seems logical for the studio to cash in on the talking animal genre now, since everyone else is doing it, however with an already over-crowded market for these films, ‘The Secret Life of Pets‘ may fall short of beating out ‘Zootopia‘ and ‘Finding Dory‘ in both the financial and critical realms. I’m not saying that ‘The Secret Life of Pets‘ is a bad movie or anything. In fact there are some great moments that are funny and charming, but it loses itself in the second half of the film when it becomes an action-caper movie that becomes over-the-top and even drags in its short run time of less than 90 minutes.

Blu-ray Review: ‘The People Under The Stairs’!

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

THE FILM

I remember first seeing Wes Craven’sThe People Under The Stairs‘ on my television at home, when I rented it on VHS at the local video store, back when they had movie rental locations in the early 90s. I had already seen ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street‘ and knew who Craven was at that point, and I knew I had to see his new film. I instantly loved it, as it followed a kid my age in the film. I thought it was quite funny and scary all at the same time as Craven perfectly balanced the two genres here. It also did quite well in theaters, making over $31 million dollars on a $6 million dollar budget, and went on to become one of the cult classics we still love and cherish on television today.
