Hey guys, Jana here,

old_man_logan___inked___turner___egli_by_surftiki_by_confuciusretaliation-d663hul

San Diego Comic-Con is all I’ve been talking about the last week, and with good reason! The epic trailers, the cast surprises, the tidbits of info that have been, previously, safely guarded. This week gives us a fantastic peek into the next year or two of film and gets us stoked for those release dates. One of the most exciting bits of information came from Wolverine himself, Hugh Jackman. He gave us three words that sent fans everywhere into a frenzied sort of glee as to what ‘Wolverine 3‘ could entail, myself included, those words were “Old. Man. Logan.” Boom!

SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!

Film Review: ‘20,000 Days On Earth’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 15th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

20000daysonearth

I’ve been a huge fan of Nick Cave since 1994 when he and The Bad Seeds released their album ‘Let Love In‘. And over the past twenty years, I have purchased his music on vinyl, CD, and digitally. Nick Cave is not only one of the coolest people on the planet and a legendary musician and singer, but he is also a filmmaker who often collaborates with the amazing Warren Ellis.

Hi Bryan Here….

WOW.  This was a mighty mighty fun blu-ray set to get through.  Took a while as there are hours and hours of extras and commentaries to listen and watch.  It was great watching all of these again.  Some greater than others.  I haven’t watched all of the Superman films since that tin DVD box set came out several years ago.  Oh man do these newly remastered blu-rays look fucking beautiful in HI-DEF.  So, this particular review will be set up by film.  I will go through all eight discs of the set and outline everything you would ever want to know about them.  From the movie itself to the extras and the audio and video quality.  This is one hell of a set and Warner Bros. and DC went above and beyond the call of making one AWESOME home video release in Superman.

Film Review: ‘Monster Trucks’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 11th, 2017

Joel H., here…

monster-trucks-movie-cgi-creature

Remember what it was like to dream? I’m not referring to our current dreams of better jobs, or more money, or a new car, but dreaming without restriction? As a kid, I dreamed several times of experiencing that bicycle flight in front of the moon with E.T. at the helm. I dreamed of discovering pirate gold and sneaking a kiss from my older brother’s girl like Mikey. I sat in spaceships and fighter jets made of cardboard boxes. I gave life and personality to a slew of GI Joe’s, even little green army men with no functional limbs. I dreamed. There was no lack of depth to those dreams. No impending Trump administration. No knowledge that the guns used for pretend are replicates of actual war machines taking lives every single day. My simple imagination was rampant without knowing otherwise, but I grew up.

4K UHD Review: ‘Pacific Rim’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 25th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

71ulqqm0dl-_sl1127_

THE FILM

Robots, monsters, and Ron Perlman. Oh my. Director Guillermo Del Toro has given us a movie that we’ve all wanted to see since we were five years old. In an action-packed and brilliant special effects film, we have giant 30-story robots fighting vicious mega monsters on Earth. Guillermo was the perfect person for this project as he is a fan of genre films and can tell a great story with flawless structure and good acting, while mixing in loud and vibrating action sequences. ‘Pacific Rim‘ movies fast and will keep you on your toes till the very end.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Captain America: Civil War’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 6th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

61GKKp2eMaL

THE FILM

The ‘Civil War‘ story line in the Marvel Universe is one of the better story lines in recent memory in all of Marvel. It pitted your favorite superheroes against each other and caused some real havoc, before taking on a much bigger enemy. The day has finally come when that comic book miniseries is put up on the big screen in a very large way with ‘Captain America: Civil War‘. This is the third ‘Captain America‘ movie, and a lot of you will wonder why this isn’t just an ‘Avengers 3’ film since most of the ‘Avengers’ show up here throughout the movie. You might be right, but in a big way, this is really Captain America’s movie that shows us just how Steve Rogers ticks.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Straight Outta Compton’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 26th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

91uy2gSHtrL._SL1500_

THE FILM

Music biopics are one of my favorite genres of film. I love seeing a musical artist or band portrayed on screen and their rise to fame, complete with how they came up with their platinum hits, warts and all. As of lately, we haven’t seen a ton of these biopics with the exception of the excellent ‘Love & Mercy‘ about Beach Boys member Brian Wilson. Most of the biopics usually focus on one person or a band and go up until they hit it big, but that’s not the case with ‘Straight Outta Compton‘, which is more of a bio-epic than a biopic. Instead of following one person, the film follows three main characters with a treasure trove of other superstar artists.

Film Review: ‘The Revenant’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 7th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

the-revenant-fn01

Could this finally be the year for Leonardo DiCaprio to take home that Oscar gold? It very well could be for his performance in ‘The Revenant‘. This is a movie that went through a few directors and actors before it landed on the ‘Birdman‘ director Alejandro G. Inarritu and Leo. At one point the studio wanted Park Chan-wook (‘Oldboy‘) to direct Samuel L. Jackson in the film, but that all fell through. Then the film went to John Hillcoat to direct Christian Bale in the film, before landing on Inarritu and DiCaprio.

Best Movies of 2015, According To Jana

by Red Zeppelbon on Dec 30th, 2015

Hey guys, Jana here,

PicMonkey Collage

Another year has come and gone and brought with it about a billion movies, some were total crap and a waste of time, but others…oh they were worth every bit of time I spent. Pre-movie hype, post-movie discussion, and the random hours I spent thinking about it in the shower or sitting at a stop-light. Having said that, this is my list of movies that 2015 blessed us with, and maybe a few the year cursed us with.

Film Review: ‘Pan’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 8th, 2015

Janet W., Here…

pan-movie

Pan opens with the star-filled, vastness, and seemingly infinite space a proper setting for our imaginations.  This is where the world began.  Fitting this would be the start of the story of one of literature’s most courageous young boy (sometimes a grown woman, remember Mary Martin played him, too), Peter Pan.  Pan is where Peter’s story began, long before he met Wendy, John, and Michael.  Peter was a baby left on the front steps of Lambeth’s Home for Boys in pre-World War I London.

Film Review: ‘Pawn Sacrifice’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 16th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

pawn-sacrifice-DF_01541_R_rgb1.jpg

We’ve seen many stories, films, and television specials about Bobby Fischer, who has a reputation for being the greatest Chess player to ever walk the Earth. It’s also well documented on how Fischer fell into madness and became a recluse from his paranoia until his death in 2008. Fischer was for sure a strange and chaotic man, but he was also a genius and fairly charismatic when he wanted to be. Needless to say, Bobby Fischer’s life is as interesting as it is sad and is worth telling, which is why so many people have told it over the years.

Velma Von Tussle:
[disgusted] Oh!
[forces a smile]
Velma Von Tussle:
Mrs. Turnblad! I'd know whose mother you were ANYWHERE.
[notices Edna's outfit]
Velma Von Tussle:
Oh, let me guess - new dress?
Edna Turnblad:
[nods, shyly but proudly]
Velma Von Tussle:
Well... you'll stop traffic!
[laughs]
Edna Turnblad:
[looks away, crushed]
Velma Von Tussle:
It was nice meeting you... Tracy.
[struts away with Amber, as Edna starts crying]
Tracy Turnblad:
Mama, don't you DARE listen to a word she says!
[Edna appears not to hear her]
Tracy Turnblad:
Come on! She's just worried that I'm going to win the Miss Teenage Hairspray contest!
Edna Turnblad:
[stops crying immediately and looks at Tracy, impressed] ... Really?
