4K UHD Review: ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 1!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 7th, 2018

THE SERIES

HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones’ series is one of the better series to come out in the last 20 years.  Based on the books by George R.R. Martin, which are called ‘A Song of Fire and Ice’, this series adaptation is top notch in every aspect.  If you haven’t seen HBO’s ‘ Game of Thrones’ or read George R.R. Martin’s novels, then I highly suggest you do a few things.  First, purchase this 4K UHD set.  It will be one of the best purchases you will make this year so far.  Second, set your DVR’s to record the last season coming up in a few months.  And third, get the books, because they are truly a great read.  This is one of the best HBO series to have ever been aired and it will sorely be missed when it’s gone.

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 13th, 2017

THE FILM

‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7 is  the best season yet of one of the best television series ever made. In this season, all that we have been waiting for is coming to fruition, since this is basically the 1st part of the last season of the show on HBO. All of the big battles are coming together, characters are finally in the same room now, and those dragons are finally able to do what they were meant to do. It’s so much fun to watch.

Jana B., Here…

 marvel_netflix600

The Superhero business is a big money maker and anything associated with Marvel Comics is getting snatched up as quickly as if Speed Demon were picking up a littered yard. The geek-friendly brand has just closed a deal with media giant, Netflix, to produce at least four 13-episode series that will lead up to a miniseries of The Defenders.

Hi, Bryan Here…

A bit of sad news. Davy Jones, lead singer of The Monkees has died of a heart attack in Florida this Wednesday morning.   Jones, 66, leaves behind his wife, Jessica, and four daughters from past marriages.  Davy is knwon for his band ‘The Monkees’ with hits like ‘Daydream Believer’, and I’m a Believer.  They had their own show and were well loved around the world.    Sad day.

Hi Bryan Here….

Add this film to your time travel themed movie marathon list pronto.  ‘The Jetsons Meet The Flintstones’ is a whole lot of fun.  It packs adventure, sci-fi, and two of America’s favorite families face to face in this one of a kind time traveling paradox journey of epic and comical proportions.  This animated film from 1987 is actually a very good piece of animation and storytelling.  I thoroughly enjoyed watching it again.  It has been ages since I have seen the film.  Warner has done an excellent job restoring this classic.

Director Duncan Jones Might Helm Wolverine Sequel!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 12th, 2011

Hi Bryan Here…

Seems like the rumor mill is in full force in that director Duncan Jones (Moon, The Source Code) is having meetings about directing the Wolverine sequel.  At one point it was going to be Darren Aronofsky, but he pulled out at the last minute, so now the crew is trying to find someone quickly.  It doesn’t seem like Duncan Jones would want to take the project on meaning it doesn’t look like his cup of tea.  I feel he would want to make his own super hero film by creating a new one and not be tied down by Marvel or the big studio execs on ever single frame.   Who knows?  But our fellow contributor Joel, has a little something to say about this matter below.

Film Review: ‘Touched with Fire’!!

by Janet White on Feb 17th, 2016

Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…

Touched with Fire - Couple

What is love? What would a person do for love?  Touched with Fire explores a love, tested through a twisted, co-dependent fire because it was laced with manic-depressive disorder. The highs and lows of such an illness make even more unpredictable an emotion/action that is already completely varying. Take a ride with Carla Lucia (Katie Holmes) as her train collides with Marco “Luna” (Luke Kirby).

Shaft (2019) – Film Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 12th, 2019

“This is Pitch Perfect Shaft!”

We need more heroes like Shaft. Even if he breaks a few of the rules run order to take out the bad guys, he gets the job done and makes the world a better place, all while having a smile on his face and consistently makes us laugh. Thank you Shaft or shall I thank Samuel L. Jackson who looks like he’s having the time of his life in this film. Either way, this sequel to the 2000 film along with the original Shaft movies from the 1970s is Pitch Perfect Shaft, and I couldn’t be happier about it.

Always Be My Maybe – Film Review

by Gumbercules9000 on May 29th, 2019

“Always Be My Maybe is simply enjoyable and engaging throughout.”

Next on the romantic-comedy chopping block comes Always Be My Maybe, which is exclusively on Netflix and has all of the desired genre tropes added in to give you laughs and heartwarming feelings. That being said, you’ve seen this story literally 500 billion times before. There is nothing new or original here in these characters or plot points. It’s romantic-comedy business as usual with Always Be My Maybe, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. While it doesn’t do anything to change the game or provoke thought, it’s simply enjoyable and engaging throughout, and that should be enough for a couple of hours.

Pet Sematary 4K UHD Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 10th, 2019

Pet Sematary‘ comes back to life with a brand new 2160p 4K UHD image with Dolby Vision and looks and sounds excellent. It’s like watching the film all over again. Stephen King’s excellent novel was adapted in 1989 by director Mary Lambert that focuses on the Creed family moving to the country for a better life where loss, death and family all play a gruesome and horrific part. There are new bonus features as well as some vintage extras imported over here. What an amazing release. Highly Recommended!

‘Glass’ – Blu-ray Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 30th, 2019

Finally, we got the conclusion to M. Night Shyamalan’s superhero opus with Glass, which was the third film in his amazing trilogy that was preceded by Unbreakable and Split. This new film brings back pretty much every single character from each film for the ultimate showdown and twist and Shyamalan did it perfectly. The 1080p HD video is wonderful and the killer Dolby Atmos track is something special. There is a ton of bonus features, but zero commentary tracks. This is a MUST-OWN Blu-ray!

Dragged Across Concrete – Film Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 19th, 2019

Dragged Across Concrete is the third film from S. Craig Zahler that focuses on two police detectives (Mel Gibson and Vince Vaughn) who are put on suspension and are looking to make some extra money to support their families, even if it means doing something dangerous off the grid. It’s a fantastic film for sure. The 1080p HD transfer, DTS-HD MA 5.1 audio mix, and two excellent bonus features are all worth your time. Highly Recommended!

Movie Quotes

Governor Crittenden:
Jesse James sent me a telegram last month, saying he was going to kill me if he had to wreck a train to do it. He said that once I was in his hands he was going to cut my heart out and eat it in strips like it was bacon.
[pause]
Governor Crittenden:
I'm going to wreck his train first.
Robert Ford:
[Bob scoffs, Crittenden glares at him] I'm sorry, Your Excellency. I was thinking of something else.
Governor Crittenden:
Jesse James is nothing more than a public outlaw who's made his reputation by stealing whatever he could and by killing whoever got in his way. You'll hear some fools say he's getting back at Republicans and Union men for wrongs his family suffered during the war, but his victims have scarcely ever been selected with reference to their political views. I'm saying his sins will soon find him out. I'm saying his cup of iniquity is full. I'm saying Jesse James is a desperate case and may require a desperate remedy.
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007) The Movie Quotes
