Film Review: ‘Ladygrey’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 15th, 2015

Claire S., Here…

ladygrey

Ladygrey is a film adapted by Alain Choquart and Laurence Coriat based on two novels by Hubert Mingarelli. This film is about a small rural town (named Ladygrey) in South Africa, ten years after apartheid.   Despite a brutal history of race-related murders, of which bodies have never been found,  the community has progressed in autopilot, trying to ignore their past and disregard their resentment and anger.  This is the only way they have managed to co-exist. But now, a turn of events threatens to unmask their true feelings and tear-down the tenuous balance that has maintained peace.

Film Review: ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 13th, 2015

Janet W., Here…

1D274906429135-x_tdy_fifty_shades_trailer_140724.blocks_desktop_large

Fifty Shades of Grey is fifty shades of annoying.  Opening with a clear comparison of Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) and Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) in the manner that they start their day.  Grey is precise and disciplined while Steele is clumsy and frumpy.  Because of her sick college roommate, Kate (Eloise Mumford), Steele is tasked with interviewing Grey.  Grey will be the commencement speaker for their college graduation ceremony.  Ms. Nervous Knots is clearly out of her league and this intrigues Grey.  This film is nearly a point-by-point attempt at a re-vamping Wild Orchid (1989) with a more screwed up and twisted James Wheeler (Mickey Rourke) and more dingy and childish Emily Reed (Carré Otis).  Don’t get excited, because it is not Wild Orchid. Touch is a major deal-breaker/game-changer in both films.

Hello, Jana here,

 50ShadesofGreyCoverArt

Are you sick of the whole ‘Fifty Shades of Grey‘ thing? The books sold like wildfire to uptight, undersexed women like they were Prozac-filled chocolate bars. I wanted to know what was so exciting about the E.L. James trilogy, so I took a weekend and read them. Boooooooring. That’s the verdict I came up with. Knowing that they started as ‘Twilight‘ fan fiction makes it pretty obvious to see the connections. Domineering male that is either everything or nothing to the girl that always blended in the background, wasn’t the perky volleyball captain, plain in her own way, but he sees something in her. Something he can’t turn away from. He tries because he knows that if she gets too close, it can be dangerous. Blah, blah, blah, blah-blah!

Hollywood is Remaking ‘The Raid: Redemption’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 15th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

00602-m2ts_snapshot_00-49-27_2012-08-15_08-45-01_original

One of the best action films of all time is getting remade. That’s right, Gareth Evans‘ ‘The Raid: Redemption‘ from 2011 is getting remade from XYZ Films, who surprisingly made the original film. Before we yell “Hell-Fire and Damn” on everything, let’s take a look at what we know. Gareth Evans himself is backing and producing this remake with Joe Carnahan (The Grey) directing  Frank Grillo (The Purge 2) in the lead role. I’m all for this remake now. Carnahan also made ‘Smokin’ Aces‘, the remake of ‘The A-Team‘, and ‘Narc‘, which is to say the least is an impressive resume.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Non-Stop’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 24th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

non-stop-blu-ray

THE FILM

In the next installment of Liam Neeson saving the world, or in this case, 150 people 30,000 feet up in the air on a commercial airliner from New York to London, things are so over-the-top ridiculous, things tend to not make a whole lot of sense. But what do you really expect from aLiam Neeson movie these days? That being said, this thriller in the air called ‘Non-Stop‘ is quite fun and is less cheesy than the ‘Taken‘ films, but not as gritty as ‘The Grey‘.

‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ Film Review!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 13th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

Welcome back to Middle Earth.  Peter Jackson‘s version of J.R.R. Tolkien‘s ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey‘, which covers the first six chapters of the 19 chapter book, is very faithful to the original material. Jackson has gone back to the world that made him a household name and literally translated verbatim from page to screen, which is sure to blow the minds of fans of the book. However, at its almost 3 hour run-time, ‘The Hobbit‘ feels sluggish and never seems to pick up any sort of pace.  That being said, i have no doubt this movie will make hundreds of millions of dollars before the year is over.

Check Out the new TV Spot for ‘The Hobbit’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 24th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

Here is the first TV spot for Peter Jackson’s ‘Hobbit’ film.  Short and sweet, just like Hobbits.  Whoa, that sounded creepy. Synopsis: “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey follows title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior Thorin Oakenshield.”
