Blu-ray Review: ‘The Gate’!

THE FILM

The 1980s were very good to us horror buffs in the form of films. We were introduced to Freddy Krueger, Pinhead, Re-Animator, John Carpenter’sThe Thing‘, ‘The Shining‘, ‘Child’s Play‘, ‘The Lost Boys‘ and the wonderful world of ‘Evil Dead‘ to name just a few. I guess you could say that the 80’s gave us some of the very BEST horror films ever made. One of the 80’s horror films that is just as good and as fun as the above mentioned movies, but rarely gets a mention is the 1986 film ‘The Gate‘, directed by Tibor Takacs.

Lionsgate is prepping the action-packed thriller ‘Acts of Violence‘ for distribution onto Blu-ray, Digital HD, and DVD available on March 27. The high-octane flick stars Bruce Willis (‘Die Hard‘ franchise), Ashton Holmes (‘A History of Violence‘), Shawn Ashmore (‘X-Men 2‘, and TV’s ‘The Following‘), and Cole Hauser (‘2 Fast 2 Furious‘). Lionsgate Is Reviving The ‘Saw’ Franchise!!!

If you’re a fan of horror movies, there is a 100% chance that you’ve heard of the ‘Saw‘ franchise from James Wan and Leigh Whannell. What began as a low-budget festival surprise soon became an annual tradition to expect a new film in the series every year around Halloween that involved new ways to torture people. The year 2010 came along, which was the release of ‘Saw 3D‘, labeled as The Final Chapter, but of course there was a wide open possibility for the franchise to continue.  Lucky for us, now it is.

For every failing ‘Battleship‘ board game that is adapted into a feature, there is a successful ‘Clue‘ in the mix, as well. Adaptations are always a tricky thing but on occasion they can work. Lionsgate is hoping to find success with their latest acquisition, the tabletop game and graphic novel ‘Dust‘.
