Film Review: ‘The Accountant’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 12th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

The Accountant‘ is not just about someone who does people’s taxes and saves people money? It’s so much more than that with Gavin O’Connor’s (Miracle, Warrior) film ‘The Accountant‘, starring Ben Affleck or as we all know him now as ‘Batman‘. ‘The Accountant‘ is a mix between Jason Bourne, Rain Man, and John Wick as we follow a man named Christian Wolff (if that’s his real name?) who was diagnosed as a high-functioning autistic kid at a young age. He had an affinity for numbers and solving puzzles, and was super quick to do so. He might have just been a superhero from an early age.

4K UHD Review: ‘Warrior’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 23rd, 2017

THE FILM

If you ever thought that the world of MMA could be a one-note violent sport, you do not know what you’re talking about and you’ve obviously never seen this highly emotional and excellent film called ‘Warrior‘. It’s been a long time since we’ve all connected to such characters such as these, and it has certainly been a long time since we’ve seen Nick Nolte in a role such as this one, which he received an Oscar nomination for. ‘Warrior‘ is certainly a violent film, but it’s also one about redemption, family, and forgiveness.

Film Review: ‘3 Days To Kill’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 20th, 2014

Hi, Bryan Here….

kevin-costner-is-in-killer-mode-in-3-days-to-kill

With characters named ‘The Wolf’, ‘The Albino’, ‘The Accountant’, and ‘The Guido’, you can’t expect too much quality from ‘3 Days To Kill‘, which was directed by McG (the guy who brought us the ‘Charlie’s Angels‘ movies and who at one point, wanted to cast Beyonce as Lois Lane in an abandoned remake of ‘Superman‘ several years ago). Needless to say, McG, hasn’t done anything of interest ever in his career with the exception of giving a little bit of money to television shows like ‘Supernatural‘ and ‘Chuck‘.

Film Review: Good Time!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 23rd, 2017

Dan M., here….

Good Time was a pretty good time. (You saw what I did there). Starring Robert Pattison, who has made it his life’s mission to make every single person other than his accountant forget that he was ever in Twilight, as Connie (Conny?) the “smarter” brother in this film about two brothers who are very bad at being criminals. It was also directed by two brothers known as the Safdie bros. I have never seen the Safdie brothers’ previous directorial work but I assume that this film mirrors their style. The movie feels dirty and dark despite having the screen littered with neon lights and color choices that felt very unique. It won’t be anything you write home about but it certainly isn’t a bad movie and it’s always nice to see actors like Pattison do something entirely different from what we’re used to.

Film Review: ‘The Human Centipede 3: Final Sequence’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 21st, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

09-centipede.w529.h352.2x

I can’t believe we have a third film in ‘The Human Centipede‘ franchise. This is supposedly the final film, but I hope there will be others or director Tom Six will come back after a long hiatus and do a fourth film. If you are unaware of ‘The Human Centipede‘ films, allow me to give you a little background. The first film was more or less a straight horror film thru and thru. It had a psychopathic surgeon (Dieter Laser) who kidnapped a few twenty-somethings and sewed them ass to mouth as to form one long digestive track.

Film Review: ‘Birdman’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 22nd, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

and-the-oscar-goes-to-could-birdman-be-the-first-superhero-movie-nominated-for-best-picture

It’s a very rare occurrence where a film changes the game on almost every aspect of filmmaking. From acting to camerawork, ‘Birdman‘ literally soars above the rest where fierce emotions of erratic actors are put on display in a chaotic yet darkly comedic setting inside the St. James Theatre on West 44th Street in Manhattan. Not only do these actors turn in Oscar-worthy performances of the highest order, but director Alejandro G. Inarritu (Amores Perros) and cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki have given us an image so fresh and that pushes the bounds, that this is one of the most pleasing films of the year, visually speaking and unlike anything you might have seen before. Lubezki has worked with Alfonso Cauron on ‘Children of Men‘ and the recent film ‘Gravity‘.

The ‘They Came Together’ Trailer Is Here!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on May 2nd, 2014

Hello, Jana here,

tct_article_story_large

If you want to make a spoof of every romantic comedy you’ve ever seen, you should cast Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler. That’s what ‘Wet Hot American Summer‘ director David Wain did with ‘They Came Together‘. Poehler is the perfect choice for a corny spoof. She’s gained legions of fans with her quirky performances in ‘Saturday Night Live‘, ‘Mean Girls‘ and ‘Blades of Glory‘. Rudd is always going to be the dorky Dave Paris in Baz Luhrman’sRomeo + Juliet‘.

Mary-Louise Parker Returning to Primetime!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Mar 6th, 2014

Hello, Jana here,

mary-louise-parker

I was worried after the final season of ‘Weeds‘ aired that I would not get my weekly dose of Mary-Louise Parker ala Nancy Botwin any longer. Looks like I have been worried for nothing. NBC has successfully courted Parker’s involvement in a comedy that will pilot this fall, ‘Feed Me‘. The project is described as a comedic exploration of adult intimacy and desire that centers on a dysfunctional family bound by love and the restaurant they run together. Parker will play the lead, Ellen, a slightly OCD wife, mother of two and accountant who is stuck in her ways and whose approach to life is a challenge for those around her, including her husband, parents and brothers, most of whom are in the restaurant business. I think TV has shown us that they will never make a movie on a ‘normal’ family, mainly because ‘normal’ is subjective and if you look closely, every family is dysfunctional. So they could probably just start stating that it’s a show about a family in the restaurant biz.

Fernando’s Review of ‘Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 16th, 2014

Fernando M., Here…

 article-0-14CB61A9000005DC-103_634x479

Hey guys!  Remember Jason Bourne?  Hell no you don’t!  At least you won’t give a crap about him after you watch JACK RYAN!  The director of “Thor” (Kenneth Branagh) shows us that he can again take really old source material and totally revamp it for today’s audience.  Jack Ryan is given about fifteen minutes of really effective origin story, and then a whopping hour and a half of non stop action.

Television Review: DirecTV’s “Rogue”

by Woozie on Apr 1st, 2013

Suzanne Here….

Screen shot 2013-03-31 at 11.37.25 PM

With it’s new and first ever television show, Rogue, DirecTV has poured a lot of resources into the production and cast of what could be a hit. With a gritty and realistic take on the drama of a cop partnering with a crime lord to take on their respective institutions, the first two episodes of ‘Rogue’ present an intriguing story that could develop into a hit.

‘Schindler’s List’ Blu-Ray Announced and Detailed!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 15th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

image001

We finally get another Spielberg film out on blu-ray.  This time it’s the movie he won the Oscar for, ‘Schindler’s List‘.  It doesn’t look like there are tons of extras as I would have hoped for.  I would just love a commentary by Spielberg on this, but we know Spielberg doesn’t do commentaries.  But below is the full press release, which you can find out what all will be on the disc.  Looking forward to seeing this in HD.

Bryan Reviews ‘Weeds’ Season 7 Bluray!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 28th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

Here we are with season 7 of ‘Weeds’ on bluray and it does not disappoint.  The video and audio are superb on this bluray with some pretty decent extras as well.  It’s good to see some old faces pop up and some new faces in this seventh season.  I’m curious as to where they are going with show after this season, but I’m sure they won’t disappoint.  Season 7 of ‘Weeds’ is a must get if you are a fan of the show.

It is 8 LPs of sheer 180g awesomeness, and if you don’t believe me, pick up a copy and see for yourself!

The Jimi Hendrix ‘Winterland’ box set hit the streets yesterday, and Amazon definitely has the best deal in town. Originally priced at $100 before its release you can now pick up this gem for about $60 if you act now!!! This price won’t last long!!! Dude, think about it…that’s like buying two records at an Indie store and getting the other six LPs for free. Hell yes. But wait, there’s more! By ordering from Amazon you will also receive an exclusive CD with additional unreleased material, which sounds incredible all on its own.

What is more criminal? This steal of the price or the fact these brilliantly sounding gems have been hidden away from the public all these years?!? It’s time your ears hear this material at a price that would even make your accountant happy. However, if vinyl isn’t your thing (and shame on you if it isn’t) the CD version is available at a great price, too.

Bryan Becomes A ‘Dead Man’!!! (A Blu-Ray Review)

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 22nd, 2011

Hi Bryan Here…..

‘Dead Man’ might be my favorite Jim Jarmusch film.  Yes, better than ‘Coffee and Cigarettes’, ‘Broken Flowers’, and ‘Ghost Dog’.  The cast of ‘Dead Man’ is amazing with its lead being super star Johnny Depp.  Some think this is a western film.  I like to think of ‘Dead Man’ as the ultimate experimental western.  ‘Dead Man’ is simple and plain AWESOME.  This movie has everything going for it.  The acting, the story, the filming, the story, and the characters.  They all come together to erupt a truly creative and brutal film.  Highly recommended.
