Jana’s Best of 2017!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jan 1st, 2018

Hey guys, Jana here,

I know these “Best of 2017” lists should technically be published in 2017, but why would I start 2018 any differently than I lived the majority of my adult life: Procrastinating and underachieving. What can I say? That’s my wheelhouse.

For a year that put a spotlight on some of the shittiest behavior by some of the Hollywood elite, it was actually a good year for TV and movies. I didn’t limit myself in number because as I moved on with the brackets, I felt like I was making ‘Sophie’s Choice‘ on some of these, so they’re all getting in! I’m feeling my inner-Oprah here, You’ve made the list! You made the list! EVERYBODY made the list!! In order to spare myself any arguments, I’m stating up front that my picks for the “Best of 2017” are not edited in regards to scandal or hideous human behavior.

Hey guys, Jana here,

If you’ve missed ‘The Big Lebowski‘, get ready for ‘Going Places‘! It’s a spinoff of the Coen Brothers‘ hit film from 1998 and was written by, directed by, and starring John Turturro. What character could he be playing other than “the Jesus”?! We’ve got your first peek at Turturro from the new film!

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

lavernecox

We’ve known for a while now that Hollywood was trying to remake ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show‘. We’ve seen various iterations on the cult icon film from ‘Glee‘ to ‘The Simpsons‘, and even recently, MTV and Fox is trying to put their spin on the classic musical. Fox’s version is gaining steam though as Laverne Cox (‘Orange is the New Black) has just been cast as Frank-N-Furter, which was originally played by Tim Curry in the original film and stage play.

Hey guys, Jana here,

Rocky-Horror-Picture-Show-BDDVD-01

When you hear the term “cult movie” few have embodied that idea more than ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show‘ from 1975, it seems such a short time ago, but the awesome alien flick is actually turning 40! That doesn’t even seem possible! To celebrate such an auspicious anniversary, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment is re-releasing the original midnight-movie in a special commemorative Blu-ray/DVD package on September 22nd with as many special features as can antici-

Hey guys, Jana here,

The-Rocky-Horror-Picture-Show-Image-3

This whole re-make thing is nothing short of annoying when one of your favorite movies is zeroed in on as the next target. Another of my favorite musicals will be going under the equivalent of a plastic surgeons knife. The goal is to freshen the story while leaving the overall appearance the same. All to often in cosmetic surgeries the end product is completely unrecognized, the same thing happens with retooled shows. Needless to say my first words were ‘Damnit Janet’ when I read that ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show‘ was the project in Fox’s crosshairs.

Amy Pascal Leads ‘Little Women’ Reboot For Sony!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Mar 19th, 2015

Hey guys, Jana here,

NEIovCQzazztMK_2_b

Hollywood had a Golden Age that ended in the early 60’s, what we have now is the reboot age. Some of the films have been surprisingly good and I can only hope the next title up for reworking fairs as well. Former Sony Pictures chief Amy Pascal is producing the studio’s effort with ‘Little Women‘ the timeless Louisa May Alcott novel that has at least 3 major films that have been based on the literature.

Hey guys, Jana here,

aol-connected

AOL is jumping onto the non-scripted series bandwagon with its first longform digital series, a half hour reality show ‘Connected‘, and is based on the Israeli docu-drama of the same name. The series will feature New Yorkers documenting their lives on handheld camcorders and it’s coming to us March 31.

Check Out Trailer For ‘The Calling’!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Aug 18th, 2014

Hey guys, Jana here,

I love a good serial killer movie and I am so excited to see ‘The Calling‘! It could be because it stars Susan Sarandon. She  has been one of my favorite actresses since ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show‘ in 1975. Hey, I didn’t see it until much later because I wasn’t even born when it came out, so I’m not THAT old, but that doesn’t take away the fact that I loved her as the trusting, naive Janet. She was remarkable as the passionate Reggie Love in ‘The Client‘ and totally hilarious, genuine and all around lovely as the recently widowed Hollie Baylor in my favorite Cameron Crowe effort ‘Elizabethtown‘.

Film Review: ‘Tammy’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 3rd, 2014

Hillary T., Here…

Tammy-5

From start to finish, Tammy had me. Had me laughing hysterically that is. I was in tears from when the opening scene started with the Outfield playing loudly in a boombox in a beat up Corolla being driven by Melissa McCarthy in a fast food uniform. She slams into a deer on her way to work at her dead end job, and well, it only gets funnier from there. This movie was made for McCarthy, literally, by her husband Ben Falcone and McCarthy herself, and it shows their combined comic talents.

Hello, Jana here,

1360360820_melissa-mccarthy-lg

One of the funniest people in the world today, Melissa McCarthy, just keeps the hits coming. The trailer just dropped for the upcoming movie ‘Tammy‘. I am going to love this so much! This is a 4th of July weekend comedy about a woman pushed over the edge when she’s fired from her fast food job, finds her husband cheating, and becomes a fugitive on the run with her grandma (Susan Sarandon) bound for Niagara Falls.

Hello, Jana here,

h0qn7y2r4ikrdkrf7ve4

A John Grisham novel is like a mug of coffee on a stormy day, a glass of wine after the kids are asleep, or even a Xanax when you want to rip someone’s head off. The point is, it’s a calming, reassuring presence. It’s going to be an intense, legal, thrill ride that has a feel-good ending. Grisham’s tried and true writing style is gripping, authentic and something that lends itself to film adaptation easily. This has been the case with ‘The Firm‘, ‘The Pelican Brief‘, ‘The Client‘ and ‘A Time to Kill‘ among several others. There is even a complete departure from his norm evident in ‘Christmas With The Kranks‘.

Film Review: ‘Snitch’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 21st, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

Snitch-The-rock

I was thoroughly impressed with Ric Roman Waugh’s ‘Snitch’, but for different reasons than you expect. Inspired by true events like most movies these days, this particular film produces a sense of true fear and hopelessness rather than show cheesy light-hearted inspiring stories that we tend to see in these “true event’ stories. And Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson leaves his ‘The Rock‘ name at home and plays a real human being who is in over his head with some real bad guys. Not only that, Johnson proves that his acting ability is worthy of not a WWE Championship, but of an acting award.

Hi, Bryan Here…

Here is a 6 minute trailer for ‘Cloud Atlas’.  This definitely looks epic, which is based on David Mitchell’s magnificent story, which spans 100’s of years.  Tom Hanks, Jim Broadbent, Halle Berry, Ben Whishaw, Jim Sturgess, Susan Sarandon, and Hugh Grant star. It looks like Tom Hanks plays several different characters and Hugh Grant looks like something out of Mel Gibson’s ‘Apocalypto’.  The Wachowskis and Tom Tykwer directed this, which they brought us the ‘Matrix’ trilogy and ‘Speed Racer’.  This opens October 26th.
