‘Happy Christmas’ Debuts at Sundance Film Festival!!!
Jana B. Here,
There are some names that you instantly recognize if you’re a student of film, or just obsessed with it, like me. Quentin Tarantino, Kevin Smith, Steven Soderbergh are just a few. What do these names have in common? Sundance. Filmmakers converge on the famous Indie film festival in Park City, Utah, for the chance to move from someone making movies with your buddies to being paid to employ some of the best actors in the industry. Dreams come true and some leave in deafeat, yeah that was way too schmaltzy. From January 16-26 the world of entertainment turns its discerning and collective eye to more than 120 feature length submissions.
Film Review: ‘Oklahoma City’!
Hey guys, Jana here,
‘Oklahoma City‘ is a documentary about the tragic bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City in 1995. It comes from writer/director Barak Goodman (‘American Experience‘, ‘Frontline‘) and was nominated for an Emmy along with the other producers on the project, Emily Singer Chapman, Mark Samels (a previous winner of several Emmy’s and three times as many nominations), and Susan Bellows (also an Emmy winner and multiple time nominee). PBS aired the doc at the earlier part of 2017 but it made the festival circuits this summer and was an Official Selection for the 2017 Sundance Film Festival where it met positive reviews.

Hi everyone, Bryan here…
Good news, everyone. There is a new horror genre film festival looking to scare people next year, which will be called ‘The Overlook Film Festival‘ and will start on April 27th at Oregon’s Timberline Lodge, which was used (exterior shots) for Stanley Kubrick’s ‘The Shining’. Festival heads Michael Lerman and Landon Zakheim announced the event this Halloween and are planning on bringing classic films, new films, experimental events, and interactive fun to the Timberline Hotel. This first year will be a four day event and looks to be quite fun as it is being put on by a ton of people from the Alamo Drafthouse and ‘Fantastic Fest‘.

Hey guys, Jana here,
The Dallas Film Society is, once again, preparing for the Dallas International Film Festival (DIFF) which will run from April 14-24. Since it’s inception in 2007, the festival has been a lynch-pin in the film-release cycle as it represents the world and U.S. debuts of dozens of pictures. Creators and acting talent mingle with distributors, deals are made and we see the results on our own screens, it’s a magical time in the life of a film.
The DFS has announced their ten lead off selections that will set the tone for the festival this year along with a few special selections that are certain to give you the warm fuzzies in the form of a special Salute to the Music of John Williams with a special screening of ‘E.T. – The Extra Terrestrial‘ and a special concert at the Dallas City Performance Hall featuring The Dallas Winds. This is all in conjunction with Williams being selected as this year’s AFI Life Achievement Award honoree.

Film Review: ‘Dope’!
Sara O., Here…
Malcolm Adekanbi is a 4.0-earning black teen with dreams of Harvard and a fashion sense taken from Yo! MTV Raps. Obsessed with 90’s hip hop culture, Malcolm and his sidekicks Diggy and Jib couldn’t be more out of place in their home, The Bottoms, a notoriously crime-ridden neighborhood of Inglewood, California.
Film Review: ‘The Wolfpack’!!
Hi everyone, Bryan Here…
I wasn’t quite sure of what to expect from ‘The Wolfpack‘. I went in only know a thing or two about this documentary, but what I got was so much more. Some of us turn to reading as a form of escapism and happiness where others might turn to religion, or nature. For me, it was always music and movies. After a hard day of work or school, I knew I could always come home and listen to a good record or watch a film and be totally content. It’s almost like being at home whenever I watch a movie or listen to music, no matter where I am.
