Film Review: ‘[Transformers: The Last Knight]’

by Janet White on Jun 28th, 2017

Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…

Transformers The Last Knight - Prime

Exploding onto our screens without regard for the narrative or progressive plot structure, comes Transformers: The Last Knight.  True Michael Bay lovers could care less or would even notice the story’s lack of cohesion with this sequel.  They are there for the cool special effects, radical cinematography, and rich hues that make up Michael Bay’s style.

4K UHD Review: ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 15th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

THE FILM

This portion of the review was written by Suzanne Loranc.

Everyone can understand that the second movie in any series can be the problematic middle child of a franchise. They tend to suffer between the spellbinding beginning and the satisfying conclusion. However, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire rises above the usual awkward bridge label with excellent performances and a script that remains faithful to the book to make it a movie that could almost stand on its own.

Film Review: ‘Spotlight’!

Directed by Tom McCarthy, “Spotlight” is named for the four-person investigative journalism team at The Boston Globe tasked with the challenge of uncovering the Catholic Church sexual abuse scandal and subsequent cover up.  The film follows the eight-month long research and reporting that went into the Pulitzer Prize winning pieces published in 2002.

Hey guys, Jana here,

In addition to the Whovians watching every move Matt Smith is up to since his reign as the Eleventh Doctor came to a close, there is a new legion of fans that flock to History’sVikings‘, I’m proudly one of these freebooters, rovers…um I don’t know what we’re called, exactly, but I LOVE ‘Vikings‘! What do these two shows have in common you may ask? Smith from ‘Doctor Who‘ and Clive Standen from ‘Vikings‘ (and also a few episodes of ‘Doctor Who‘!) are now cast in the same movie – ‘Patient Zero‘.

Hey guys, Jana here,

bradley-cooper1

The entertainment world goes through fads, just like fashion. One day we’re inundated with talking sea animals from every animated company, the next day it’s all about bugs. Right now, culinary genius is taking center stage.

The Weinstein Company began production today on ‘Adam Jones‘. This pic puts Bradley Cooper (‘Silver Linings Playbook‘) and Sienna Miller (‘GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra‘) together and adds a little spice making Cooper a bad-boy Michelin chef who has to change his ways. The project was originally called ‘The Chef‘ until  ‘Chef‘, Jon Favreau’s tale of a chef who loses his restaurant and hits to the road in a food truck piecing his life, and his family, back together along the way. Obviously this can’t work in the film industry an agreement was made and a change of title followed.

Listen, Michael Bay, we need to talk.  It’s not you, it’s me.  Trust me on this.  You haven’t changed, I have.  Maybe I love you more than I should.  Is it wrong to love too much?  Maybe it was.  You will always be dear to my heart.  Your explosions are completely unmatched by any other.  Nobody can take that away from you.  No other director will ever replace your passion to film entirely in IMAX 3D just to make things that much bigger, and we’re already talking about GIANT EFFIN ROBOTS!

Film Review: ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 26th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

Transformers_Age_of_Extinction_42240

I’m not sure why there was an idiotic woman behind me, applauding and yelling “Woooo”, every time an autobot was on screen, but it happened throughout Michael Bay’s fourth installment of his ‘Transformers‘ franchise. Let me assure you, there is absolutely NOTHING to applaud or cheer for in ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction‘. If you weren’t sure if Michael Bay couldn’t get any worse as a filmmaker, think again. He outdoes himself here and tries to throw all of his tricks into one bag, leaving us with a film that can only be described as ‘shit with big explosions’.

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

Transformers-4-IMAX-poster_1394643320

So here is the fourth film of ‘The Transformers‘ franchise from Michael Bay, who has basically rebooted his own series. And yes, Steven Spielberg is still producing to make a few extra bucks. But don’t count on Shia LaBeouf running around screaming in this one. Instead, you’ll have Mark Wahlberg (who was in Bay’s ‘Pain and Gain‘) trying to save the day. Hopefully there is a scene of him rapping and dancing.  Nicola Peltz, Stanley Tucci, T.J. Miller and Ken Watanabe also star. You can expect a lot of explosions and chaos, but not much else. The film opens up June 27th.  Enjoy.

Film Review: ‘Mr. Peabody and Sherman’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 6th, 2014

Rebecca S., Here….

When I was a little girl, I would snuggle up on the couch with my dad and watch reruns of his favorite cartoon, Rocky and Bullwinkle. He would tell me all about “moose and squirrel”, Boris and Natasha, George of the Jungle, and Dudley Do-Right… but the one I loved best was Peabody’s Improbable History. It was clever, snarky, educational in the worst way, and full of horribly great puns (which I am still a sucker for). I was worried when going to see the new DreamWorks (Shrek, How to train your Dragon) movie Mr. Peabody and Sherman, that it would not live up to the kitschy cool of the original 5 minute shorts. I was pleasantly surprised to find a smart, fun movie that kept the cool (and the horribly great puns).

Jason Statham Is Taking On ‘Layer Cake’ Sequel!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 12th, 2013

Jana B., Here….

Jason-Statham_10

Jason Statham is synonymous with box office bank when he stars in a movie. It’s no surprise that he’s been a busy little bad-ass lately. He’s going back to the stock well of British crime capers. Seriously when I just wrote that I think about the Pink Panther skulking around with his Sherlock hat and coat on with a gigantic magnifying glass. I’m fairly sure I’m more than just a little ADD, so bear with me, I’ll get us back to topic.

Kim L. Takes on ‘Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 8th, 2013

Kim L., Here…

Percy-Jackson-Sea-of-Monsters-Poster1

I was pleasantly surprised at how good this sequel was.  I really enjoyed the fact that they gave a little more back story and expanded on the characters history as well.  I saw this screening in 3D and I am not a fan.  It was fuzzy at times and really only the very beginning and a few scenes even called for 3D, so in my opinion if you have the option to see ‘Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters‘ in 2D, do that.

Film Review: ‘Jack the Giant Slayer’!!!

by Woozie on Mar 1st, 2013

Suzanne here,

Screen shot 2013-03-01 at 1.13.48 PM

Fairytales are always fodder for reinterpretation and expansion in movies. Sometimes they fall flat and sometimes they add to the beloved story we knew as children. The movie Jack the Giant Slayer stays true to the whim and wonder of the original story and adds in a bit more for the modern movie fan.

Movie Quotes

Noah Vosen:
Our target is a British national - Simon Ross, a reporter. I want all his phones, his BlackBerry, his apartment, his car, bank accounts, credit cards, travel patterns - I want to know what he's going to think before he does. Every dirty little secret he has, and most of all we want the name and real-time location of his source. This is NSA priority level 4. Any questions?
