Hi everyone, Bryan here….

Again, how old am I? It’s the 25th anniversary of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (The Movie) and is getting a Blu-ray release and for the first time ever – a digital HD release #DigitalVampires.  Joss Whedon sure struck gold with this horror-comedy vampire genre that took place in high school, which spawned one of the best tv shows ever made. With an-all star cast that includes Kristy Swanson, Donald Sutherland, Paul Reubens, Luke Perry, Ben Affleck, and Rutger Hauer, it’s all vampires, blood, guts, cheerleading, and prom.

Film Review: ‘Jack the Giant Slayer’!!!

by Woozie on Mar 1st, 2013

Suzanne here,

Screen shot 2013-03-01 at 1.13.48 PM

Fairytales are always fodder for reinterpretation and expansion in movies. Sometimes they fall flat and sometimes they add to the beloved story we knew as children. The movie Jack the Giant Slayer stays true to the whim and wonder of the original story and adds in a bit more for the modern movie fan.

Hi Bryan Here…

It is very difficult to imagine a Buffy Universe without any involvement from its creator, Joss Whedon.  I can’t believe it was 1992 when I was first introduced to Buffy.  I was 11 years old.  Then I went on to enjoy the Buffy universe through tv shows and loved every minute of it.  But now, we will get a reboot on the big silver screen of the Buffy universe.

The TV series  may have ended but Joss Whedon continued the series in comic book form right where season 7 left off.

Season 8 of the Buffy universe debuted a few years ago and it is pretty spectacular.  Great storytelling and artwork.  Now it is getting the motion comic treatment on bluray and will be released on January 4th, 2011.

No extras have been announced but Fox says trivia, artwork galleries, and featurettes will most likely make it to the release.

Very excited about this.  Love me some BUFFY.

Justifying the Female Villain: An Essay by Tuesday Shank!

Justifying the Female Villain

By Tuesday Shank

(Find Tuesday Shank on Twitter and Instagram!)

I stumbled through my college career. After the better part of six years, I began my work on my senior thesis. I undertook the easiest thesis I could think for myself to do: analyze a television show. My advisor’s academic expertise was gender studies. As a fan of Joss Whedon, I knew of Joss Whedon’s reputation for feminist characters and decided to use my thesis to sing Whedon’s praises.

Thus, I began my work on “Careful Jayne, You’ll Scare the Women: An Analysis of Gender Representations in the Television Show, Firefly”. I watched Firefly enough that I’m still not eager to see it again. Halfway through the semester, I just wanted to watch anything else.

Film Review: ‘Rebel in the Rye’!!

by Janet White on Oct 14th, 2017

Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…

The Catcher in the Rye took the U.S. by storm nearly from its initial printing. The author, J.D. Salinger, transformed from obscurity to magnified limelight causing him to retract from the world. The more the public wanted to know him or be his infamous character, Holden Caulfield, the more withdrawn Salinger became which increased the mystery. In the past 66 years, the novel has been printed, re-printed, translated and massively distributed throughout the world. Schools have both required and banned the reading for reasons of profanity and its message. Rebel in the Rye details Salinger’s (Nicholas Hoult) life and progression as a writer. From his early years as a willful, smart mouth to an obsessed literary giant. Read the rest of this entry »

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

This is definitely on my radar now. Jeff Bridges and Chris Hemsworth, meaning The Dude and Thor are most likely going to star in a new film called Bad Times at the El Royale, which will be directed by Drew Goddard and released by 20th Century Fox. Despite the awesome two actors and the cool title, filmmaker Drew Goddard is one to watch for sure.
