Sicario 2: Soldado Trailer is Here!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 19th, 2017

Sicario‘ was one of the better films of 2015. It was only fitting that we would receive a sequel called ‘Sicario 2: Soldado‘ that stars Benicio Del Toro, Josh Brolin, Isabela Moner, Jeffrey Donovan, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and Catherine Keener. In this sequel, Benicio and Brolin team up to fight the cartel and their terrorist on US soil, which looks to be super violent and suspenseful. Taylor Sheridan has returned to write the screenplay, but director Denis Villeneuve (Arrival, Blade Runner 2049) has not returned.

Hey guys, Jana here,

Sicario

Sicario‘ came out swinging last year and received a slew of nominations for its effort, three of those for Academy Awards. Emily Blunt, Benecio Del Toro and Josh Brolin starred in the drug war thriller. It told the story of an idealistic agent sent to flush out and eradicate a drug cartel responsible for the deaths of several members of her team. There was such a great turnout for the flick that a sequel is in the works and getting closer to a production start with plans to be in full swing by the end of the year.

Film Review: ‘Sicario’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 26th, 2015

Hillary T., Here…

Sicario is spanish for “hitman.” It’s laid out for you right when the movie starts. And from that point on, it’s a gripping and menacing thrill ride. Sicario starts with FBI agent Kate Macer (Emily Blunt, in another action role, SUPERBLY done) leading a raid in Arizona on a house owned by a cartel drug lord. She mistakenly discovers in a firefight inside the house bodies buried within the walls.

Dan Moran’s Top 12 Movies of 2017 Plus Extras!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 4th, 2018

I saw 75 movies this year and I still have 3-4 left to finish up over the next few weeks. I haven’t seen The Post, Call Me By Your Name, or Phantom Thread yet. Phantom Thread is the only regret I have but it doesn’t come out until mid-January and I like to finish my list before first week of January ends. A few special awards before my top 12.

Jana’s Best of 2017!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jan 1st, 2018

Hey guys, Jana here,

I know these “Best of 2017” lists should technically be published in 2017, but why would I start 2018 any differently than I lived the majority of my adult life: Procrastinating and underachieving. What can I say? That’s my wheelhouse.

For a year that put a spotlight on some of the shittiest behavior by some of the Hollywood elite, it was actually a good year for TV and movies. I didn’t limit myself in number because as I moved on with the brackets, I felt like I was making ‘Sophie’s Choice‘ on some of these, so they’re all getting in! I’m feeling my inner-Oprah here, You’ve made the list! You made the list! EVERYBODY made the list!! In order to spare myself any arguments, I’m stating up front that my picks for the “Best of 2017” are not edited in regards to scandal or hideous human behavior.

A Retrospective Look Back at the year 2007 in Movies!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 20th, 2017

Written by: Dan Moran

It has been a decade since we have had an overwhelmingly great year of movies. There have been some ‘great movies’ for sure, that have been released since 2007, but a collective year of dominance like 2007 hasn’t been experienced in 10 years. We have to start with the films that people still talk about today from 2007. No Country for Old Men, There Will Be Blood, & Zodiac. I mean what a Top 3 for one calendar year!  The closest we got to this was in 2015 when the Top 3 was, Mad Max: Fury Road, Mad Max: Fury Road, & Mad Max: Fury Road.

Film Review: ‘Arrival’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 24th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

amyadamsarrival

Not to be confused with ‘The Arrival‘ with a young Charlie Sheen, although both of these films involve visitors from another planet, the simply titled ‘Arrival‘ takes the alien invasion genre into paths that we’ve never traveled down before. Directed by Denis Villeneuve (Enemy, Prisoners, Sicario), instead of giant cities falling to the ground and millions of people disintegrating into thin air by a laser beam, ‘Arrival‘ follows the path of two people who want to find a way to communicate with the new aliens that have seemed to land at twelve different locations on planet Earth. Set in present day, multiple giant alien spacecrafts land on Earth, where the governments around the globe put their best and brightest on the job to try and communicate with the new visitors.

I’m Prepared for the ‘Arrival’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 17th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

maxresdefault

Well here’s an alien invasion film that seems to be fresh and original -FINALLY! The trailer for ‘Arrival‘ looks excellent on all levels, from the cast (Amy Adams, Forest Whitaker, Jeremy Renner), to the direction of Denis Villeneuve (‘Sicario‘ and ‘Prisoners‘). It all looks amazing. I just hope it is when it releases on November 11th of this year. This is not to be confused and is not a remake of the 1996 Charlie Sheen vehicle ‘The Arrival‘. This is something entirely different.

Dave Bautista Signs Onto ‘Blade Runner’ Sequel!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Apr 4th, 2016

Hey guys, Jana here,

blade-runner

Dave Bautista has made a name for himself in a few galaxies. One of them being the WWE Universe where he kicked ass all over the place, while another one being the film ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘ where he played Drax. Where ever you know him from, one thing is certain, the man has a palpable presence on-screen. I’d bet this is part of the reason he has been chosen for a high-profile sequel, and I’m not talking about his part in Guardians 2, this time it’s for ‘Blade Runner‘.

Hillary Thomas’ Top 5 Films and Best TV Shows of 2015!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 29th, 2015

Hillary T., Here…

Best2015_660

As a writer for Boomstick Comics, we are charged with going to see a lot of movies. I thought that this past year, I saw quite a few. Apparently, with the opening of the Alamo Drafthouse in Richardson, the movies I saw this past year weren’t all new. There were some that were classic programming at a new venue. What can I say? James Wallace knows that I like (“Sixteen Candles”, “Aliens”, “Big Trouble In Little China”, “True Grit”, and “Conan” just to name a few), but I did see a “Few Good Movies.”
