Hey guys, Jana here,

hateful-eight-samuel-l-jackson-1450133609

Samuel L. Jackson has a new project in mind, this one will not be set in the jungle like his ‘Legend of Tarzan‘ character, but it’s the superstars first foray into unscripted territory. Jackson is teaming up with his wife, LaTanya Jackson and the pair is joined by Rushion McDonald for an A-list celebrity series.

Hey guys, Jana here,

books_revival

Director Josh Boone, from ‘The Fault In Our Stars‘ is diving into the deep end for his next project. This could mean a few things in the world of film-making, I could be talking about his announced writing/directing gig for ‘X-Men: The New Mutants‘, but I’m not. I’m talking about not one, but two Stephen King adaptations Boone is taking on, with one of them being ‘The Stand‘. Crawl before you run, young padawan. Anyhow, the other adaptation is what’s in the news today, Boone is looking to make King’s 2014 book ‘Revival‘ the current project getting his attention.

Hey guys, Jana here,

biggamemovieposter_large

I have to admit, ‘Big Game‘ is a film that totally flew under my radar. I didn’t know this one was in the works and based on the poster, I was seriously thinking it’s going to be some kind of Sharknado-ish piece of film. Maybe it’s because Air Force One resembles a giant shark, you know, if it had teeth. It’s a really wonky pic of Samuel L. Jackson, too, really doesn’t showcase the Jackson we typically see. Anyhow, onto the film!

Hi, Bryan Here….

John Cusack (Mike Enslin) and Samuel L. Jackson (Mr. Olin) star in Mikael Håfström's 1408

Remember that book Stephen King wrote a few years ago that had a couple of people trying to escape the zombie-like apocalypse, due to a mobile phone signal being emitted everywhere that turned people into zombie-like killers? Well, they’ve been trying to make a movie adaptation of that for years now, and once upon a time, Eli Roth was attached to it, but that’s no longer the case. That film and book is called ‘Cell‘.

Samuel L. Jackson Has Joined The ‘Robocop’ Remake!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 6th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here…

Hi folks.   Sorry for the lack of awesome news an updates.  It’s very busy here at Boomstick HQ.  Some really neat thing lined up in the next week or two.  So bare with me.  Thank you.  Now onto some BADASS news.  Samuel L. Jackson is joining the cast of the remake of ‘Robocop’.  Remember, I’ve been talking about this remake for a while and last time I talked with Peter Weller (the original Robocop), he was not enthused about this remake.  THis might change his mind.

Hi Bryan Here….

Kevin Costner has just joined Quentin Tarantino’s Spaghetti Western ‘Django Unchained’.  He is set to play a character named Ace Woody.  “He’s the sadistic trainer of the male fighting slaves who entertain the white patrons of Candyland as well as the female slaves who are forced to be prostitutes.”  This is a different role for Costner as he will be more of the villain than the good guy.  Plus, I think this will re-vitalize Costner’s career in a good way.  I already can’t wait to see this film.

Blu-ray Review: ‘The Hitman’s Bodyguard’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 22nd, 2017

THE FILM

On paper, ‘The Hitman’s Bodyguard‘ sounds like a solid gold winner. You have Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson in a violent action-comedy with enough “motherfucks” for two films, that is directed by the guy who made ‘The Expendables 3‘ – Patrick Hughes. Those looking for a ‘Deadpool‘ style character from Reynolds will be disappointed, as he’s the straight arrow here, or as straight as Reynolds could possibly be. Samuel L. Jackson on the other hand is amped up to 11, as he plays Kinkaid, an assassin for hire who will testify in a global crime ring against a foreign mad man, played by Gary Oldman, complete with a hard Russian accent.

Hey guys, Jana here,

So we’ve been waiting for what seems like forever to ever get another Incredibles movie and Pixar has finally granted our wish. The film isn’t slated to debut until June 15, 2018 we couldn’t expect much footage to be shared yet. What we do have is a teaser that is less than 60 seconds, but shows us that we’re at the same time-frame the original film ended. Either that or Jack-Jack just isn’t going to age, but John Lasseter revealed that the second film “starts right as the first one finishes, so it just carries on”. Read the rest of this entry »

Film Review: ‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 20th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

Matthew Vaughn is back in the director’s chair with ‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle‘, the sequel to the hit 2015 action-comedy film that made over $414 million. The ‘Kingsman’ story line was originally written in comic book form from Mark Millar (Kick-Ass) and Dave Gibbons (Watchmen) and follows a super secret British spy service that protects the world from various threats. It’s like James Bond, but more fun, more violent, and with more laughs. With sequels, especially in the action world, the words “bigger, better, faster” are usually used everyday on set, in an attempt to out-do the previous movie. That can mostly be said for this sequel too, but with The Golden Circle – – it all works.

Film Review: ‘The Legend of Tarzan’!!

by Janet White on Jun 30th, 2016

Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…

Tarzan - Brothers

Every woman loves the strong and silent type, yes? Well, I say only for a while. Women are more than their looks and I’d say the same in regards to men. Both sides have bad apples, but on the whole, our actions and words are as integral to who we are as our appearance. Yet in The Legend of Tarzan’s portrayal of Tarzan, silence dominates and makes this King of Beasts a robot, not just mute, but cold and detached for the majority of the film. They should have subtitled the film, “A Man of Few Words”, because The Legend of Tarzan, starring Alexander Skarsgård as Tarzan/Lord John Clayton was just that.

Film Review: ‘The Revenant’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 7th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

the-revenant-fn01

Could this finally be the year for Leonardo DiCaprio to take home that Oscar gold? It very well could be for his performance in ‘The Revenant‘. This is a movie that went through a few directors and actors before it landed on the ‘Birdman‘ director Alejandro G. Inarritu and Leo. At one point the studio wanted Park Chan-wook (‘Oldboy‘) to direct Samuel L. Jackson in the film, but that all fell through. Then the film went to John Hillcoat to direct Christian Bale in the film, before landing on Inarritu and DiCaprio.

Bryan Kluger’s Best/Worst of 2015!!

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

1140-mfg-2015-Readers-Choice-Best-Movie-poll-collage-promo.imgcache.rev1449178940055.web.722.414

I can’t believe how fast this year has gone by. 2015 was an interesting year to say the least, most of which was great. Movie-wise, I think 2015 had some excellent films filling its theaters, but of course it had some real stinkers too. Below is my list of the Best and Worst films of 2015.  I believe this year I watched over 175 new films, theatrically speaking and it was very difficult to narrow them down from 25. After some strawberry cake covered in Lucky Charms, I finally had a TOP 15, however, these films are in no particular order this year. But when you talk about the Best movies, you have to mention the worst too. My list tends to be a tad bit different from others, but hey, I’m twisted. I highly encourage you to seek out these movies – good or bad and enjoy the rest of your year.

THE FILM

Yet another ‘American Girl‘ film has been released under the name ‘Grace Stirs Up Success‘. If you’re unfamiliar with the ‘American Girl‘ franchise, you can read my previous hardcore action review of ‘Saige Paints the Sky‘. ‘American Girl‘ is basically a line of actual play dolls for girls ages 4-12. None of the films in this series have anything to do with a doll, but rather try and tell these young girls what life is really like on the outside once out of a federal prison, which brings us to ‘Grace Stirs Up Success‘.

I usually do a mini movie marathon of them with the usual food and beverages that go with each film. I’ve done this the past few years, with one year, taking a break to do an all John Carpenter/Kurt Russell marathon. That was a lot of fun. I can officially say that the first AWESOME, kick-ass movie of 2015 is finally here, which is ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service‘. Based on Mark Millar’s (Kick-Ass) comic book, director Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass, Layer Cake, Snatch) has once again delivered the goods and high entertainment value with an homage to spy films, particularly the ‘James Bond‘ franchise. So what’s that mean? It means the guy who made ‘Kick-Ass‘ and produced ‘Snatch‘, made his own version of ‘James Bond‘, and it’s as violent and gory and funny as his other films I mentioned.

I’m glad everyone has calmed down now. Back a few months ago, Quentin Tarantino announced that he would be making a new BADASS film called ‘The Hateful Eight‘, which we reported on. Unfortunately, a website called ‘Gawker’ got a hold of the script somehow and posted the entire thing online for anyone and everyone to read. Well, that really pissed off Tarantino as it should and he filed a lawsuit against the website and said he would not make the film. Well I’m glad that was said under high tempers and nobody really meant it, because that would really suck if we didn’t get a new Tarantino movie.

Hello, Jana here,

h0qn7y2r4ikrdkrf7ve4

A John Grisham novel is like a mug of coffee on a stormy day, a glass of wine after the kids are asleep, or even a Xanax when you want to rip someone’s head off. The point is, it’s a calming, reassuring presence. It’s going to be an intense, legal, thrill ride that has a feel-good ending. Grisham’s tried and true writing style is gripping, authentic and something that lends itself to film adaptation easily. This has been the case with ‘The Firm‘, ‘The Pelican Brief‘, ‘The Client‘ and ‘A Time to Kill‘ among several others. There is even a complete departure from his norm evident in ‘Christmas With The Kranks‘.

Jana B. here,

Tarzan

If you’re like me, there is no story line too far fetched to keep me from gazing at the Nordic god-like appearance of Alexander Skarsgard. I’ve proven that by sitting through ‘Zoolander‘ one too many times and even the disaster of a film that was ‘Battleship‘. Now that I know there is a 3D live-action version of ‘Tarzan‘ going full speed ahead starring the Swedish bombshell, I’m more than a little excited about the idea of Skarsgard appearing on screen most of the time sporting only a loincloth. Thank you Warner Brothers! It comes our way in July 2016, in what will be a tent pole for the company’s summer movie season.

Film Review: ‘Robocop’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 11th, 2014

Hi, Bryan Here….

Joel Kinnaman

Over the past year, I’ve been writing stories on the upcoming ‘Robocop‘ remake. As I found out more and more information about this reboot of the franchise, I was becoming less and less excited about it. It might of been the fact that it was getting a PG-13 rating, the change in the suit, or many of the other differences that were popping up from the original 1987 film that starred Peter Weller. Hell, even Weller himself said he was not looking forward to the remake and even compared his 1987 film to the likes of ‘Casablanca‘, which is hilarious.

Hi, Bryan Here…

It’s official. after a decade or more of trying to get into a movie theater or on a network, Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s comic book series ‘Preacher‘ has received the green-light. The project will be written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg with Sam Catlin (‘Breaking Bad‘) as executive producer and show-runner. ‘Preacher‘ will be on AMC.

The Top 10 Gangster Movie List!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jan 19th, 2014

Jana B. here,

GangsterListBANNER

Some girls are all into sappy romances or heart touchingly saccharine-sweet movies. Movies that sometime contain a troubled family learning to love a curmudgeonly, absent  grandparent, or a shattered family recovering from the death of one of its immediate member. Sometimes it’s a pet that waltzes, unexpectedly, into a tumultuous atmosphere that teaches everyone to love more before it’s killed in some unimaginative way.

I hate movies like that. I hate books like that and I hate songs like that. If a member of a family is killed, it better be a mafia family, and I get to look forward to their violent, bloody and evil retribution.  I am so fascinated by the inner workings of these ‘families’. I love to see the fronts they use to launder their income and imagine ways I would do it if I was involved.

Hi, Bryan Here….

preacher

I don’t want to believe any of this, because I’ve been hurt and burned so many times with this project, that I don’t think my mind, body, soul, and testicles can take it anymore. There have been countless attempts to adapt the comic book series ‘Preacher‘ by Garth Ennis for years now. We’ve even written about it on this site many times. Now, it seems that there is finally some steam and a new company wanting to develop this amazing and sadistic story. And that company is AMC.

Here’s The New Trailer for The ‘Robocop’ Remake!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 7th, 2013

Jana B., Here…

 RoboCop+remake

I just checked out the new Robocop trailer. “Why is America so Robo-phobic?” is the phrase I plan on working into every conversation I have for the foreseeable future. This phrase is uttered by the badly rugged Samuel L. Jackson. So far in the 2:26 minute long trailer we see some awesome CG effects which stands to reason if you’re watching a movie about a cyborg policeman, or any movie made in 2013. Long gone are the days of non-computerized special effects.

Before, I get into the future project of Aaron Taylor-Johnson, a.k.a. Kick Ass, let me just take a moment to express how absolutely gorgeous this guy looks without the frizzy hair of his first appearance as the normal dude turned vigilante. I kind of slid my eyes past him because I could not see the hottie he had hidden. I just checked out a picture of him and was freaking gobsmacked at the boy looking back at me that will be filling my night time thoughts. Yummy. Now that I’ve stated the obvious but important point of his looks I can get on with his new project.

Check Out The Trailer for The New ‘Robocop’ Remake!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 5th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

Robocop_remake_fanposter

Here’s your first look at the remake of ‘Robocop‘ from director Jose Padilha. Joel Kinnaman, star of AMC’sThe Killing‘ will play Robocop. Michael Keaton, Samuel L. Jackson, Gary Oldman, Abbie Cornish and Jay Baruchel co-star. It’s gonna be difficult to fill Peter Weller’s shoes in this, as well as make a gritty enough film.

Scripting team Ken Marino and his wife Erica, are back to work for Fox 2000. They have been hired to adapt “Go The F To Sleep”,  with “Twilight” Saga Producer Karen Rosenfelt and “All You Need Is Kill” producer Erwin Stoff as the producers. The book, written by Adam Mansbach, is classified as a childrens book for adults. The book is based off of Masbachs frustration of trying to get his daughter to go to sleep. As a parent, I can relate to this. Samuel L. Jackson (Django Unchained) did a reading of it that made it the worldwide sensation. If you haven’t seen it yet, it’s hilarious.

Film Review: ‘Django Unchained’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 23rd, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

I’m so glad I waited till I saw Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Django Unchained’ to make my top 20 list of films of the year, heck, my top 5 list, because it definitely deserved a spot near the top. Tarantino’s journey into the western genre is smart, funny, and tells a great story of love and revenge, one of Tarantino’s best plot points. I cannot wait to see this movie again.

Hi, Bryan Here….

I cannot wait to see Tarantino’s new film.  It looks like a lot of fun.  And it has such an amazing cast.  “Set in the South two years before the Civil War, Django Unchained stars Jamie Foxx as Django, a slave whose brutal history with his former owners lands him face-to-face with German-born bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz). Schultz is on the trail of the murderous Brittle brothers, and only Django can lead him to his bounty. Honing vital hunting skills, Django remains focused on one goal: finding and rescuing Broomhilda (Kerry Washington), the wife he lost to the slave trade long ago. Django and Schultz’s search ultimately leads them to Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio), the proprietor of “Candyland,” an infamous plantation. Exploring the compound under false pretenses, Django and Schultz arouse the suspicion of Stephen (Samuel L. Jackson), Candie’s trusted house slave.”  Enjoy the trailer.

Hi, Bryan Here….

Good news for your Tarantino fans out there.  Actually, I don’t know whether to be happy or angry about this.  Lionsgate and Miramax are releasing a big Tarantino movie set on bluray on November 20th.  It will contain 8 films and two bonus discs.  This kind of sucks, because I imagine most of us already own all of these on bluray already individually.  Now we have to purchase all of these again.  And, why are the ‘Kill Bill’ films not in one film like we have been promised for years now.  I will admit, the artwork is cool from MondoTees, but I can’t justify purchasing this, for two extra bonus discs.  These look to be the same blurays that we already have.  And why did they not wait till next year to release this, so they could include ‘Django Unchained’?    Official press release below.

Hi, Bryan Here….

That’s right folks.  Jackie Earle Haley, aka Rorschach, aka Freddy Kruger (2010) has joined the ever growing cast of ‘Robocop’.  Haley will  play Maddox, the guy who dispenses the military training to Robocop. Gary Oldman, Hugh Laurie, Samuel L. Jackson, and Abbie Cornish also join Joel Kinnaman in Jose Padilha’s reboot of the cyborg police officer.  We also hear that actor Jay Baruchel might join the cast as well.

Hi, Bryan Here….

Joss Whedon’s Avengers is what every comic book geek and action film fanatic has dreamed of since they were a little kid.  Not only was it one of the most epic films ever shot on film, but Whedon used his wit and unique story telling to weave these iconic characters into a team that destroys evil.  You see, it’s not all about the people who form a team and save our planet.  It’s about a group of people from different times and different worlds, who necessarily don’t belong together, but realize that by teaming up, they form something bigger than themselves.  And notice that I don’t use the term superhero.  None of the Avengers refer to themselves or think of themselves as heroes, with the exception of Captain America, who really is the only hero in the story.

Check Out the Creepy Trailer for ‘7500’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 21st, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

So here is a trailer for ‘7500’ which is a horror film which should have been called ‘Snakes on a Pla….’ –  wait wait wait, I mean ‘Ghosts on a Plane’.  And it still should have starred Samuel L. Jackson.  But sadly it does not.  Instead it stars Amy Smart, Ryan Kwanten (True Blood), Jerry Ferrara (Entourage), and Leslie Bibb.  The trailer doesn’t show any of the ghosts, which is a good thing.  The trailer has its moments of creepiness though.  Hope this one is fun.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception) is almost positive to join the cast of Quentin Tarantino’s new spaghetti Western Django Unchained. He’ll have to work out some scheduling issues, but the man seems pretty determined. If he manages it, he’ll be back alongside Leonardio DiCaprio (as before, I do not need to tell you what else he’s in), Jamie Foxx (Ray), Samuel L. BLURAY/DVD Releases For the Last Week of September 2010

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 27th, 2010

Tons of releases this week including my favorite film of all time.  It seems that a few weeks go by with some “ok” releases then one week later oodles of BADASS releases come out, burning a giant hole in my wallet.  Well this is one of those weeks.  Like before, click on the link/picture to be whisked away to AMAZON where you can purchase the movie for a big discount.  Enjoy this week’s releases.

This was a hard film to catch in theaters because it was a very limited theatrical run. Remember that film a few years ago, “Open Water” about that couple that went snorkeling in the ocean and their tour boat left them in the middle of the ocean accidentally? Well, “Frozen” is a little bit like that. A few college kids go skiing for a weekend and take the chair lift up one last time right when the park closes. Midway up the ski lift and about 100 feet up in the air, the chair lift stops and the park closes for the entire week and does not open again until the weekend. Five days without food or water in freezing conditions. What would you do? Check this film out!

Special Features include:

Audio commentary with Writer/director Adam Green and actors Shawn Ashmore, Kevin Zegers and Emma Bell
Catching Frostbite: The Origins of Frozen
Three Below Zero
Shooting Through It
Beating the Mountain: Surviving Frozen
Deleted scenes
Theatrical trailer
*Exclusive to Bluray* – Audio commentary with Adam Green, cinematographer Will Barratt and editor Ed Marx

A spin-off of 2008’s hugely successful Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Get Him to the Greek reunites Jonah Hill (Superbad), playing a low-ranking record-label employee, and Russell Brand (Despicable Me), the ultimate larger-than-life rock-star Aldous Snow. Also starring are Sean Combs (aka P. Diddy) in a devastatingly funny comic turn, Rose Byrne (“Damages”) and Elisabeth Moss (“Mad Men”), plus cameos from music and media stars including Pink, Christina Aguilera, Lars Ulrich, Pharrel, Meredith Viera, Billy Bush, Mario Lopez, Kurt F. Loder and Paul Krugman. This is as raunchy as “The Hangover” and as funny as Superbad.

Special Features include:

Gag Reel
Getting in Tune with the Greek
The Making Of “African Child”
Five complete music videos featuring Aldous Snow, Infant Sorrow, and Jackie Q
Musical Performances
Deleted, Extended, and Alternate Scenes including Alternate Intro/Ending

Karaoke – Sing Along to 15 Outrageous Songs
Cast Auditions
My Scenes
Pocket Blu
Social Blu
BD-Live

I really loved Iron Man 2. It was such a blast in the theater to see. The action was non-stop and the characters were even more developed which made me care amore about them. This is something that has been lacking in the comic book film adaptations. Seeing Iron Man and War Machine team up and kill bad guys was out of this world. Mickey Rourke did a phenomenal job as the villain “Whiplash”. This movie had it all for me, even the cool cameos of Thor, Hulk, Black Panther, and the awesome Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. I am looking forward to a 3rd film as well as the Avengers movie in a couple of years.

Special Features include:

Commentary by Jon Favreau
Creating Stark Expo
Practical Meets Digital
Four deleted and extended scenes with optional commentary by Jon Favreau

Exclusive to BLURAY Features* include:

S.H.I.E.L.D. Data Vault
Previsualization and Animatics
Ultimate Iron Man: The Making of Iron Man 2
Illustrated Origins: Black Widow, Nick Fury, War Machine
Working with DJ AM—Jon Favreau remembers working with Adam Goldstein
Four Blu-ray exclusive deleted and extended scenes with optional commentary by Jon Favreau
Concept art gallery
Theatrical trailers
Music Video: AC/DC “Shoot To Thrill”

Finally. My favorite movie of all time. The 1933 version of King Kong. Actually I have two favorite movies. King Kong and Army of Darkness, but Army of Darkness has already been released in HD, but King Kong (1933) has not, until this week. What an epic movie this is. I love everything about this film. It is not so much an action adventure story but a love story. Pure and simple. “It was beauty killed the beast.” From that first moment that Kong sees Fay, he falls in love, but deep down he knows he will be doomed, for he cannot have anything so beautiful in life. But he protects her from everything and will stop at nothing to be with her, even if it means his own demise. This movie is a must own. i am so excited that this is finally out on BLURAY.

Special Features include:

Commentary by creature creator Ray Harryhausen and visual effects artist Ken Ralston, with archival sound bites from Merian C. Cooper and Fay Wray
I’m Kong: The Exploits of Merian C. Cooper (2005 TCM documentary)
The Making of Kong, Eighth Wonder of the World (7-part documentary)
Trailers

I will see anything with David Bowie. Anything. Especially a David Bowie War Film. Now this is a criterion release which means it is the best release you can get. “In this captivating, exhilaratingly skewed World War II drama from Nagisa Oshima, David Bowie regally embodies the character Celliers, a high-ranking British officer interned by the Japanese as a POW. Music star Ryuichi Sakamoto (who also composed this film’s hypnotic score) plays the camp commander, who becomes obsessed with the mysterious blond major, while Tom Conti is British lieutenant colonel Mr. Lawrence, who tries to bridge the emotional and language divides between his captors and fellow prisoners. Also featuring actor-director Takeshi Kitano in his first dramatic role, Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence is a multilayered, brutal, at times erotic tale of culture clash that was one of Oshima’s greatest successes.”

Special Features include:

•The Oshima Gang, an original making-of featurette
New video interviews with producer Jeremy Thomas, screenwriter Paul Mayersberg, actor Tom Conti, and actor-composer Ryuichi Sakamoto
Hasten Slowly, an hour-long documentary about author and adventurer Laurens van der Post, whose autobiographical novel is the basis for the film
Original theatrical trailer
A booklet featuring an essay by film writer Chuck Stephens and a 1983 interview with director Nagisa Oshima by Japanese film writer Tadao Sato

Rock & Rule stars Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, Cheap Trick and more in this animated classic rock movie. The movie is about Angel, a member of a punk rock band in the apocalyptic future, is kidnapped by Mok, a legendary super rocker. Obsessed with an evil experiment, Mok plans to use Angel’s voice to summon a demon from another dimension. The rest of the band follows Mok to Nuke York in an attempt to rescue her and then the ultimate battle of good vs. evil begins. Why would you say no to this movie? This will be watched with beer and friends at midnight.

Wow. Two releases in the same week with Iggy Pop. Add to that cast, Alice Cooper, Henry Rollins, and Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange) and vampires, and you got yourself “SUCK”. It is about a band’s bass player that becomes a vampire, down and out rock band, The Winners are launched into spotlight. Stalked by creepy producers, wild groupies and the legendary vampire hunter Eddie Van Helsing, The Winners soon find fame to be a fate worse than death. Doesn’t that sound AWESOME?

Special Features include:

Audio commentary
Making-of featurette
Music Video
Cast-and-crew interviews
Deleted scenes

Another one of those PG-13 animated superhero films. Ed Asner lends his voice talent to the cast which is always a plus. “After a spaceship splashes down in Gotham City Harbor, Batman and Superman encounter a mysterious Kryptonian with powers as great as those of the Man of Steel. The Kryptonian is soon revealed to be Kara, cousin of Superman, who takes her under his wing to educate her about the ways of Earth. However, the villainous Darkseid has other plans. Seeing an opportunity to finally defeat Superman, Darkseid abducts and gains control of Kara, utilizing the powerful Kryptonian to do his bidding. It’s up to Batman and Superman to save Kara, but they’ll have to take the fight to Darkseid within his hostile world – where unknown, deadly threats lurk around every corner, including a brainwashed Kryptonian able to match Superman blow-for-blow.”

Special Features include:

DC Showcase: Green Arrow (short film)
Sneak Peek at the Next DC Animated Movie
Supergirl: The Last Daughter of Krypton featurette
Two bonus TV episodes handpicked by Bruce Timm

*Exclusive BLURAY Featues* include:

The New Gods
Orion and Mister Miracle Mini-featurettes
Two more TV episodes handpicked by Bruce Timm

I am sure you have heard of ILM before or at least seen it in the credits for just about every movie made.  It is the amazing effects company started by Star Wars creator George Lucas 35 years ago.  It was started to create the effects for Star Wars and quickly became the premiere effects company in Hollywood and is virtually in every film in some form or another.

So the Encore movie channel will be airing a documentary in November about the ILM company.  It will be narrated by Tom Cruise and will feature interviews by major actors and directors.

The press release says:

ENCORE PAYS VISUAL TRIBUTE TO OSCAR®-WINNING VISUAL EFFECTS GIANT ILM IN CELEBRATION OF THEIR 35TH ANNIVERSARY WITH ORIGINAL DOCUMENTARY “INDUSTRIAL LIGHT & MAGIC: CREATING THE IMPOSSIBLE”

Tom Cruise Narrates Doc Premiering November 14, 2010
Marathon of Five ILM-Effects Films on Encore

Beverly Hills, CA., September 14, 2010 – Since its founding 35 years ago, Industrial Light & Magic has been the movie industry’s undisputed leader in groundbreaking visual effects, thrilling audiences and making hits into blockbusters. On Sunday, November 14 at 8:00 p.m. (et/pt), Encore presents an original documentary celebrating that legacy. “Industrial Light & Magic: Creating the Impossible” is directed by Academy Award® and Emmy® nominated director Leslie Iwerks and is narrated by Tom Cruise. Encore will also present five ILM-effects films starting at 2:00 p.m. with Jumanji, followed by Hook, Jurassic Park III, Twister and Starship Troopers.

The hour-long special has interviews with filmmakers George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Ron Howard,  J.J. Abrams and Jon Favreau, actors Samuel L. Jackson and Robin Williams, producer Jerry Bruckheimer and John Lasseter, the chief  creative officer at Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios.  Film and television shows featured in the special include The Abyss, Avatar, Forrest Gump, Jumanji, Jurassic Park, Pirates of the Caribbean, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Robot Chicken, Star Trek (2009), Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Transformers, Twister, Young Sherlock Holmes and The War of the Worlds (2005), which starred narrator Cruise.

Leslie Iwerks’ documentary takes audiences behind the scenes at ILM with in depth interviews with some of the company’s top talent and showcases never before seen footage highlighting many of their pioneering milestones. From creating the first ever computer generated character in a feature film to the latest advancements in visual effects for film franchises like Transformers and Iron Man, ILM has created some of the most memorable movie moments in recent history.

Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) is a division of Lucasfilm Ltd. and was founded by George Lucas in 1975 to create the visual effects for his space epic Star Wars. The studio originated in Van Nuys, California but moved to San Rafael, California to work on The Empire Strikes Back and is now headquartered at the Letterman Digital Arts Center in the Presidio of San Francisco with a sister studio in Singapore.

ILM has worked on nearly 300 films in its 35 year history and has largely been the driving force behind the evolution of modern visual effects.  From the liquid metal man in Terminator 2: Judgment Day to the lifelike digital dinosaurs in Jurassic park, ILM has created some of the most iconic moments in cinematic history.

ILM has received 15 Best Visual Effects Oscars and 25 additional nominations. It has also received 23 Scientific and Technical Awards from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in recognition of the critical role the company’s advances in technology have played in the filmmaking process. ILM is also the only entertainment company to be recognized with the National Medal of Technology.

I just hope it is an depth look at the company and not a broad view of it.  I will be recording it.
