Jana’s Best of 2017!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jan 1st, 2018

Hey guys, Jana here,

I know these “Best of 2017” lists should technically be published in 2017, but why would I start 2018 any differently than I lived the majority of my adult life: Procrastinating and underachieving. What can I say? That’s my wheelhouse.

For a year that put a spotlight on some of the shittiest behavior by some of the Hollywood elite, it was actually a good year for TV and movies. I didn’t limit myself in number because as I moved on with the brackets, I felt like I was making ‘Sophie’s Choice‘ on some of these, so they’re all getting in! I’m feeling my inner-Oprah here, You’ve made the list! You made the list! EVERYBODY made the list!! In order to spare myself any arguments, I’m stating up front that my picks for the “Best of 2017” are not edited in regards to scandal or hideous human behavior.

The Pilgrimage Trailer Looks Hardcore!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 13th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

“I’m on a pilgrimage to see a moose!” Well, not so much here, but there’s a new movie coming out on August 11th called Pilgrimage that looks hardcore. From what I can tell from the bloody violent trailer, it looks like a cross between Braveheart, a supernatural horror film, and Scorsese’s recent Silence film, but you know, with more decapitations and blood. Jon Bernthal (Walking Dead) and Tom Holland (Spider-Man: Homecoming), along with Richard Armitage (The Hobbit) star in the film, and takes place in Ireland in the year 1209 where a group of monks being a pilgrimage to escort an ancient relic. Things get out of hand, human heads end up on giant sticks, sword fights ensue, and blood is shed. This seems right up my alley.

THE FILM

We are at the end of this ‘Hobbit‘ trilogy with ‘The Battle of the Five Armies‘. The last three years seem to have gone by fairly fast. It seems like yesterday when I was writing about Warner Bros. heading back to Middle Earth with the ‘Hobbit‘. I was super stoked about it, because I was such a huge fan of the ‘Lord of the Rings‘ trilogy. I think I saw each of those films five times in the theater, owned each version that came out on DVD and Blu-ray, and went back to see them when they were re-released. I just can’t get enough of the ‘LOTR‘ films. But shortly after the announcement that we were receiving a ‘Hobbit‘ film, things started going downhill.

Film Review: “Into the Storm”

by Woozie on Aug 8th, 2014

Suzanne here,

Screenshot 2014-08-08 19.46.09

At only 89 minutes, Into the Storm tries to tell too much story in too little time. With 5+ tornadoes, environmentalism, teen romance, family regrets, pushy bosses, this movie is a cyclone of poor acting and forced story telling.

Hi, Bryan Here….

first-poster-for-the-hobbit-the-desolation-of-smaug-released

We are halfway there, folks. Peter Jackson’s middle sequel in his Hobbit series is coming out December 13th from Warner Bros. and it looks amazing. Here is your first look at the film, which we get to see full on, the dragon known as Smaug, which is voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch. I enjoyed the first film, but felt like there was something lacking from it, as you can read HERE. This looks intense and much better thatn ‘An Unexpected Journey‘. I can’t wait.

‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ Film Review!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 13th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

Welcome back to Middle Earth.  Peter Jackson‘s version of J.R.R. Tolkien‘s ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey‘, which covers the first six chapters of the 19 chapter book, is very faithful to the original material. Jackson has gone back to the world that made him a household name and literally translated verbatim from page to screen, which is sure to blow the minds of fans of the book. However, at its almost 3 hour run-time, ‘The Hobbit‘ feels sluggish and never seems to pick up any sort of pace.  That being said, i have no doubt this movie will make hundreds of millions of dollars before the year is over.

Bryan’s Review of ‘Strike Back: Season 1’ Blu-Ray!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 29th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here…..

Even though this killer series airs on Cinemax, HBO is releasing the blu-rays.  And I love the fact that HBO is releasing the Digital Copies and DVD’s along with the Blu-rays in the same set.  I hope they continue this.  This is a great original series from Cinemax that looks great and sounds good too.  Not too many extras on this disc besides some commentaries, but I have a feeling that once you start watching ‘Strike Back’, you will want to watch more.

Check Out the New ‘Hobbit’ Trailer! It Looks Amazing!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 19th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

Here we have a new ‘Hobbit’ trailer with tons of new footage.  December is coming up fast and I can’t wait.  This is the second official trailer for ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’, part 1 of Peter Jackson’s Hobbit Trilogy. Starring Martin Freeman (Bilbo Baggins), Ian McKellen (Gandalf) and Richard Armitage (Thorin Oakenshield). A curious Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, journeys to the Lonely Mountain with a vigorous group of Dwarves to reclaim a treasure stolen from them by the dragon Smaug. Also starring Benedict Cumberbatch (The Necromancer), Elijah Wood (Frodo), Hugo Weaving (Elrond), Orlando Bloom (Legolas), Cate Blanchett (Galadriel), Andy Serkis (Gollum) and Christopher Lee (Saruman).  Enjoy.  ‘The Hobbit’ will be released on December 14th.

Hi Bryan Here….

One of Cinemax’s first original series gets picked up for a second season.  ‘Strike Back’ will be back in 2012 with brand new episodes.  Ten episodes to be exact.  Production is expected to begin in South Africa early next year.  Kudos to Cinemax for finally getting in the original programming game.  It’s a tough to compete with HBO and Showtime right now.  Hopefully Cinemax will do more genre series.  That’s what I would like to see.

Bryan Here…

So now that the Union has stopped protesting, since Peter Jackson threatened to move the Hobbit Film to Eastern Europe to shoot rather than keeping it in New Zealand, production is a go.  For now.

Below are who is cast so far in the Hobbit.  You might recognize some of them.

Martin Freeman will be Bilbo Baggins.  You might remember him from the UK Office tv series, love Actually, or Hot Fuzz.

Richard Armitage will be Thoren Oakenshield.  You might remember him from the tv shows of MI5 or the BBC Robin Hood Show.

Aidan Turner will be Kili.  You might recognize him from the tv shows of Being Human and The Clinic.

Rob Kazinski will be Fili.  You might know him from the BBC soap opera Eastenders.

Graham McTavish will be Dwalin.  You might recognize him from the last season of 24 or the last Rambo movie.

What do you think of the casting choices so far?
