I’ve got an “INCREDIBLE” update for you!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jan 23rd, 2018

Hey guys, Jana here,

The Incredibles‘ are making a comeback and Disney released character portraits in the most trendy, pop culture-ish way possible, as selfies matched with their artistic counter-part. Google’s Arts and Culture app has been the new driving force powering social media and everyone is doing it. I even tried to get a match on my dog, Duke, aka John Wayne, but there’s not recognition for pets, yet. Along with the images of the voice actors, we see stylized artwork of their on-screen persona, and it’s awesome to see anything coming from Disney Pixar about the upcoming sequel. But that’s not all they’ve given us. We get four new images, but we also get some plot details!

Tarantino Tackles The Summer of the Manson Family!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jan 12th, 2018

Hey guys, Jana here,

Quentin Tarantino has decided that, after 2012’s ‘Django Unchained‘, he kinda likes working with Leonardo DiCaprio and enjoyed it so much that he’s signed the Oscar winner to his latest film. This makes number nine for Tarantino, and has been given an August 9, 2019 opening date under Sony.

Blu-ray Review: Free Fire!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 17th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

THE FILM

Film Portion Reviewed by Janet White:

In typical 70s film fashion, Free Fire opens with an aerial scan of the city below.  Curvaceous, bold letters displayed nearly every cast member and some of the crew.  This got very old, long, and kept the pace slow.  Two men waiting in an alley… (Sounds like a bad joke, it was).  Stevo (Sam Riley) and Bernie (Enzo Cilenti) meet up with Justine (Brie Larson), Chris (Cillian Murphy), and Frances (Michael Smiley) for a shady gun buy with Ord (Armie Hammer), Vernon (Sharlto Copley), Martin (Babou Ceesay), Gordon (Noah Taylor), and Harry (Jack Reynor, how did they turn this hottie into a slob?).  Great cast, right?  Well, great casts alone do not a great film make.  The dialogue and plot points must harness and ride with that talent.

Just a few of my favorite posters!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jun 11th, 2017

Hey guys, Jana here,

image

There are several elements that go into play when a movie is prepping for their initial debut. There is an advertising campaign, and the goal is to saturate the atmosphere with the upcoming movie, all designed to get us to show up in theaters and plunk down a chunk of our hard-earned cash. One of the first type of media to invade our subconscious is the all-important movie poster. This may seem like a small thing, but each poster is carefully designed to share just enough information that will reel us a bit closer, then just like when fishing, set that hook.

Film Review: ‘[Free Fire]’!!

by Janet White on Apr 21st, 2017

Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…

Free Fire - Gun Gang

Inundated with morons and piss-poor shooting for a calamitous combination, Free Fire leaves the audience either shaking their heads or bowing over laughing.  Between the mumbling of lines and poor volume control, I missed bits of the dialogue for sure.  It is as if they were aiming to repeat what Tarantino did with Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs, but they were not clever enough.  Complete with wondrous never-ending bullet supplies and a villain’s miraculous ability to stave off death repeatedly aka “movie magic,” Free Fire simply does not make much sense.  Could a person, shot in their right arm, fire a weapon (even automatic rifles) with their right hand? Hey guys, Jana here,

There are two things Martin Scorsese knows a lot about, one of them is making movies and the other is making mob movies. From ‘Goodfellas‘, to ‘Gangs of New York‘, to ‘The Departed‘ with several stops in between, his films speak for themselves so it’s no wonder that a bit of a bidding war has broken out around his latest project ‘The Irishman‘. The companies are sending up their white flags with Netflix standing on the pile of broken bodies, the victor.

4K UHD Review: ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 15th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

51cr14hes4l

THE FILM

This portion of the review was written by Suzanne Loranc.

Everyone can understand that the second movie in any series can be the problematic middle child of a franchise. They tend to suffer between the spellbinding beginning and the satisfying conclusion. However, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire rises above the usual awkward bridge label with excellent performances and a script that remains faithful to the book to make it a movie that could almost stand on its own.

Film Review: ‘The Legend of Tarzan’!!

by Janet White on Jun 30th, 2016

Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…

Tarzan - Brothers

Every woman loves the strong and silent type, yes? Well, I say only for a while. Women are more than their looks and I’d say the same in regards to men. Both sides have bad apples, but on the whole, our actions and words are as integral to who we are as our appearance. Yet in The Legend of Tarzan’s portrayal of Tarzan, silence dominates and makes this King of Beasts a robot, not just mute, but cold and detached for the majority of the film. They should have subtitled the film, “A Man of Few Words”, because The Legend of Tarzan, starring Alexander Skarsgård as Tarzan/Lord John Clayton was just that.

It certainly has been a long time since Roger Avary has been behind the camera. If you need a reminder, Avary wrote the story to ‘Pulp Fiction‘ and was a collaborator with Quentin Tarantino for a while, until legal troubles plagued Avary. When Quentin Tarantino casts a movie, he pulls out all the stops and fills the project with Hollywood’s A-List, and ‘The Hateful Eight‘ is no exception. The project brought together some Tarantino favorites and some new to his work. Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Walton Goggins, Demian Bichir, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen and Bruce Dern are the top-billed names and they make a fantastic ensemble that make up ‘The Hateful Eight‘ and you can bring it home on Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD and On Demand on March 29, 2016.

Film Review: ‘The Wolfpack’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 14th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

holding-wolfpack-sundance-film-festival

I wasn’t quite sure of what to expect from ‘The Wolfpack‘. I went in only know a thing or two about this documentary, but what I got was so much more. Some of us turn to reading as a form of escapism and happiness where others might turn to religion, or nature. For me, it was always music and movies. After a hard day of work or school, I knew I could always come home and listen to a good record or watch a film and be totally content. It’s almost like being at home whenever I watch a movie or listen to music, no matter where I am.

Ving Rhames Joins Indie Thriller ‘Operation’!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Aug 21st, 2014

Hey guys, Jana here,

683-0

Ving Rhames hit the film scene hard in the 80’s and never looked back. Since 1984, he’s had at least one, more often several, projects each consecutive year. One of his most memorable roles was as the unfortunately brutalized Marsellus Wallace in Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Pulp Fiction’. He provided the voice for Cobra Bubbles in Disney’s animated ‘Lilo & Stitch‘, and gave life to the flamboyant Fred G. Duncan in the comedy ‘I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry‘. Rhames has gone from genre to genre and proven to be a talented entertainer with each turn.

Hey guys, Jana here,

bradley-cooper1

The entertainment world goes through fads, just like fashion. One day we’re inundated with talking sea animals from every animated company, the next day it’s all about bugs. Right now, culinary genius is taking center stage.

The Weinstein Company began production today on ‘Adam Jones‘. This pic puts Bradley Cooper (‘Silver Linings Playbook‘) and Sienna Miller (‘GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra‘) together and adds a little spice making Cooper a bad-boy Michelin chef who has to change his ways. The project was originally called ‘The Chef‘ until  ‘Chef‘, Jon Favreau’s tale of a chef who loses his restaurant and hits to the road in a food truck piecing his life, and his family, back together along the way. Obviously this can’t work in the film industry an agreement was made and a change of title followed.

Rebecca S., Here…

“The D is silent.” In some excellent news, Quentin Tarantino is partnering up with Dynamite Entertainment and DC Entertainment to publish a comic book that pairs up Django and Zorro. Django has already been in the comic book realm when the film came out, but now he’s coming back. Tarantino himself will co-write the series with Reginald Hudlin and Matt Wagner and is scheduled to hit comic book shelves late this year. I’m excited to see where this leads, as all 3 collaborators are known for risky moves and thinking outside the box (no one more so than Tarantino). And both outlaws should be well represented by that kind of thinking.

That sound you just heard is the collective sigh from The Cumber-Collective all over the world, upon hearing their poster boy, Benedict Cumberbatch is going to be starring in ‘Blood Mountain‘. Nothing can make a fan girl squee louder than knowing that he is increasing his on screen presence with another movie. Not that it’s possible for him to be any busier than he was in 2013. Cumberbatch was in every movie from last year, it seemed. With movies ‘Star Trek Into Darkness‘, ‘The Fifth Estate‘, ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug‘ and TV’s ‘Sherlock‘, among others, his presence has been noticed everywhere.

The Top 10 Gangster Movie List!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jan 19th, 2014

Jana B. here,

GangsterListBANNER

Some girls are all into sappy romances or heart touchingly saccharine-sweet movies. Movies that sometime contain a troubled family learning to love a curmudgeonly, absent  grandparent, or a shattered family recovering from the death of one of its immediate member. Sometimes it’s a pet that waltzes, unexpectedly, into a tumultuous atmosphere that teaches everyone to love more before it’s killed in some unimaginative way.

I hate movies like that. I hate books like that and I hate songs like that. If a member of a family is killed, it better be a mafia family, and I get to look forward to their violent, bloody and evil retribution.  I am so fascinated by the inner workings of these ‘families’. I love to see the fronts they use to launder their income and imagine ways I would do it if I was involved.

Here’s The New Trailer for The ‘Robocop’ Remake!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 7th, 2013

Jana B., Here…

 RoboCop+remake

I just checked out the new Robocop trailer. “Why is America so Robo-phobic?” is the phrase I plan on working into every conversation I have for the foreseeable future. This phrase is uttered by the badly rugged Samuel L. Jackson. So far in the 2:26 minute long trailer we see some awesome CG effects which stands to reason if you’re watching a movie about a cyborg policeman, or any movie made in 2013. Long gone are the days of non-computerized special effects.

DIFF Film Review: ‘Jump’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 8th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

pr36697-2-jump-directed-by-kieron-j-walsh

Hailing from Ireland, Kieron J. Walsh’sJump‘ is a dark and twisted tale with elements of comedy that will attract the indie-film crowd at first glance, but loses its appeal very fast. You can tell that Walsh has a passion for the movie business and a true love of cinema, as he pays homage to several styles of filmmaking throughout the picture, however the several different story lines that intersect in a ‘Pulp Fiction‘ like way do not have enough time on screen for anyone to develop a relationship with the characters.

Bryan’s Top 20 Films of 2012!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 31st, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

I can’t believe that 2012 is at its end and we are about to welcome 2013.  This year has gone by so fast, and man, did I see tons of films.  When I started making this 2012 list, I came up with 87 films that I enjoyed.  Yes, you read that right, 87, meaning there were probably just as many films that I didn’t enjoy.  Now, below is my top 20 of the year. I just couldn’t do it with 10 this year.  And these are films that I watched in the theater or at home and that don’t necessarily come out this year, but I did see this year.  And I’m sure I’ll get a lot of criticism for my list, but hey this is my list, not yours.  You can have your own.  But my lists tend to be different than most people’s as you can tell from my previous lists HERE. So without any further delay, below is my TOP 20 films for 2012.

Hi, Bryan Here….

I’m so glad I waited till I saw Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Django Unchained’ to make my top 20 list of films of the year, heck, my top 5 list, because it definitely deserved a spot near the top. Tarantino’s journey into the western genre is smart, funny, and tells a great story of love and revenge, one of Tarantino’s best plot points. I cannot wait to see this movie again.

Good news for your Tarantino fans out there.  Actually, I don’t know whether to be happy or angry about this.  Lionsgate and Miramax are releasing a big Tarantino movie set on bluray on November 20th.  It will contain 8 films and two bonus discs.  This kind of sucks, because I imagine most of us already own all of these on bluray already individually.  Now we have to purchase all of these again.  And, why are the ‘Kill Bill’ films not in one film like we have been promised for years now.  I will admit, the artwork is cool from MondoTees, but I can’t justify purchasing this, for two extra bonus discs.  These look to be the same blurays that we already have.  And why did they not wait till next year to release this, so they could include ‘Django Unchained’?    Official press release below.

Bryan Trick ‘r Treats Early (Trick ‘r Treat Review)

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 2nd, 2010

So I finally got to take a look at the horror movie “Trick ‘r Treat” and if you know me, then you know I am a cinephile.  Meaning I will see pretty much everything and also that I have a large affection for everything HORROR.  Over the last several years, it has been difficult for me to thoroughly enjoy a great horror film.  There are only a few exceptions.  I do not know if it is my childhood love for Halloween or my extreme passion for everything Horror, but this movie “Trick ‘r Treat” is the best Horror film to come out in years.  Now that is something to take notice of coming from me.

I really didn’t know anything going into this film other than it was a horror film about Halloween and that it followed several story lines and all connected at some point during the movie.  Kinda like “Pulp Fiction”.  I was hoping for genuine scares, comedic moments, blood, excellent death scenes, and even more blood.  I can safely say, that I received all of that plus more.

Trick ‘r Treat is basically a throwback to old Halloween Horror films and the traditions and holiday rules we all have grown to know.  It covers it all in this movie.  It connects several stories through out the movie through a very creepy little villain who is not named, but wears a scarecrow mask.  This little villain is so frightening that he will instantly haunt you for years to come.

We follow a group of spunky college girls, a psychotic principal, a horrific school bus  accident, a mean spirited child prank, a newly wed couple, and an old man’s strange intruder all with one directive.  Do not break the rules of Halloween.

This has quite a spectacular cast.  Brian Cox and Anna Paquin lend their talents to this film as well as several others you will recognize here and there.  The actors really helped this movie take it to the next level.

I cannot believe this film was not given its due date.  Only released straight to home video, this movie should have had a better marketing team and gotten into every theatre at the Halloween time.

I really have nothing to complain about in this movie.  It was everything I wanted in a horror movie.  This film will be a staple of horror film marathons and played round the clock come Halloween time.

See this movie as soon as you can and let me know what you thought of it.  I loved talking about his movie after I watched it.  Every single detail about it.  It was a hell of a lot of fun.

Podcast #32 – Favorite Scenes In Movies!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 22nd, 2014

Hi, Bryan Here….

PulpFictionTwist

Good news, everyone. The Multi-Media Men are finally back after a two week hiatus while we covered the Dallas Film Festival and took time to reflect on our last 31 weeks of recording. It was an excellent break and we are super psyched to be back with all sorts of fun and new content to make you laugh, cry, and even hurl. We recorded this 32nd podcast on Easter Sunday morning in Dallas, TX, and were missing a couple of regulars. However, we were joined by Susan Kamyab of ‘This Chix Flix‘ and ‘Irving Community Television‘ this weekend and she made an excellent addition to the podcast. As usual, we start off with some sort of Top 3 list, and this week we decided to discuss our favorite scenes in movies. This was a lot of fun.  And please let us know what you think by going to our FACEBOOK page, which you should visit to catch up on all the latest information. And don’t forget to visit iTunes and Stitcher to subscribe to our podcast. Enjoy the show.
