T2 Trainspotting‘ is a sequel to the 1996 film ‘Trainspotting‘. Danny Boyle is back to direct the same crew, Ewan McGregor, Ewan Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller and Robert Carlyle. The films have been based on Irvine Welsh’s novels ‘Trainspotting‘ and T2 on ‘Porno‘. I’m a big fan of all things ‘Trainspotting‘, the actors, director and…the soundtrack.

Film Review: ‘Steve Jobs’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 16th, 2015

Janet W., Here…

steve-jobs-movie-2015-holding

Steve Jobs opens on a black and white video of a young boy listening with profound focus to a computer technician’s progressive response to the world’s potential journey towards a computer-dependent society.  Young Steve Jobs clearly had a desire for technological innovation in his blood even then.  Through his wide-eyed look, the turning of his mental wheels was easily discerned.  Even then, you could tell that Jobs had his mind set on a path to making the right computers a part of everyone’s everyday life.  Fast forward to the launch of the first Mac where an all-grown up Jobs (Michael Fassbender) is in a state of controlled panic (or was it frustration?).

Film Review: ‘Do I Sound Gay?’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 7th, 2015

Paul N., Here…

do_i_sound_gay-1

You’ve read the title of this film and its review, so go ahead, get your snickering and jokes out of the way now; I’ll wait. Feeling better? Good. Now we can begin a serious discussion. The idea that a specific style of speech is exclusive to homosexual males is an interesting one that deserves at least a glimpse.

Writer-director-star, David Thorpe crafts a “personal documentary” style film in an attempt to answer the mystery behind the gay male voice. Pulling primarily from his own personal experiences, he weaves together personal anecdotes, historical references, and numerous testimonials with the grace and skill of a much more seasoned filmmaker; especially when one considers that this is his cinematic debut.

Short Snap Film Review: ‘Men, Women, and Children’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 16th, 2014

Sara O., Here…

Men-Women-and-Children

There’s something about Men, Women and Children that was just a little too much. I couldn’t quite put my finger on it after I left the theatre—the only clear feeling at that time was an overwhelming sense of hopelessness in humanity.  So you’re officially warned, this is not the Jason Reitman of the hilariously heartwarming Juno.  This is the Jason Reitman who wants to scare the living daylights out of you by showing every worst-case scenario that comes out of people’s obsession with social media and the Internet.

Director Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, 127 Hours, Slumdog Millionaire), is not in danger of being out of work any time soon. After releasing Trance in March of this year, the versatile director is turning his attention to the small screen. In the US, he’s partnering with his Slumdog Millionaire writer and producer Simon Beaufoy (127 Hours and the upcoming Hunger Games: Catching Fire) and Christian Colson (127 Hours and Trance) for a 10 part WWII miniseries.

Movie Quotes

Jeremy Grey:
John? I need to see you right away. It's important.
John Beckwith:
[Walking into Jeremy's office] What's going on?
Jeremy Grey:
[sighs] We got three big weeks ahead of us. It's wedding season, kid!
John Beckwith:
You sandbaggin' son of a bitch!
Jeremy Grey:
I've got us down for 17 of them already.
John Beckwith:
Okay, now how many of them have cash bars?
Jeremy Grey:
Great question. I like where your head's at and two of them actually are, but I got us covered: Purple hearts. We won't have to pay for a drink all night.
John Beckwith:
Oh, yeah. Perfect.
Jeremy Grey:
We are gonna have tons and tons of opportunities to meet gorgeous ladies that get so aroused by the thought of marriage that they'll throw their inhibitions to the wind.
John Beckwith:
And who's gonna be there to catch them?
Jeremy Grey:
Grab that net and catch that beautiful butterfly, pal! What do you like better, Christmas or Wedding Season?
[Jeremy raises his hand]
John Beckwith:
Mr. Grey?
Jeremy Grey:
Yes. The answer would be, um, Wedding Season?
[shimmy-shakes]
John Beckwith:
Bingo! I'm gonna get my suit. Now who are we this time?
